Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?
Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina
Dear Kristina:
Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.
Softer Spring Hues
If you're going for a romantic, soft look, then you'll need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly. One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

Be Bold, Be Bright
On the other hand, if you've got a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!
Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.
This look's a little more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)
Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.
Up-to-the-Minute and Modern
For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.
For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.
Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few vibrant accents.
For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Go with an all-white cake with a few pops of orange, fuchsia and lime.
Feeling spunky? You could even dress your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns (an ultra-modern look that's super-fresh for summer) with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way.

Hey everybody I am also doing a fuschia and orange wedding in oct.07! The gerber daisies seemed to work well for my bridesmaids and the miniature gerbers look good for the guys boots! My bouquet is going to be white roses with orange and fuschia spring roses which are perfect because it just gives a hint of color and my fiances boot will match! I am having the same daisies and colors for the centerpieces in little bowl centerpieces which really turned out to be gorgeous so if you have any questions just email me at slw4dsr_24@hotmail.com! Good luck!
I am haveing my wedding colors orange pink yellow with fruit centerpieces and my bridemaids dresses are going to be black. I think the contrast will be awsome. I think if they had colored dresses that would be to much color.:D
Hi, I’m planning a wedding for August of 08. I’m considering the colors orange and yellow like the rose, what do you think? I’m having trouble with ideas for my bridesmaids’ dresses with these colors.
I thought when I picked fuchsia and orange for my May 19, 2007, it was original. Then I found this page! I guess we all have good taste. If anyone has any ideas as to how to decorate and outdoor area with overhanging decks and a pool let me know!
I’m getting married August 2007 and chose wildberry, orange, and lime green. Wildberry is milder than fuschia, and the colors look great together (check Raylai Designs for wildberry gowns). I’m also having limes and oranges as accent fruits for the centerpieces. I think my guests will love the color combination and it will set a great scene for fun.
may i ask for a comment also for we are planning to get married by may 2007. i am wondering if silver and fuschia would blend together as motif?
Hey Orange and Fuschia Friends,
I wanted to let everyone know there is a book of flowers that you can purchase at the store or at Barnes and Noble that should help you with your flower picks. It’s a flower guide magazine that will give you ideas of flower color and type. It’s called “Wedding Flowers”, by Better Homes and Gardens. It has ideas for every color of flower and when the flower is in season. there are also reception ideas, bootineer and corsage ideas, and table settings. The colors seem bright and vibrant.
I personally have some things I would like someone to use. They are from my daughters wedding. Some silk orange and fushcia gerbera daisy flowers in orange vases and some paper lanterns of different sizes, ( in the same colors) that we used for her wedding. If you are interested e-mail me and I can get them to one of you.
Thanks, Happy Planning–Enjoy- Don’t be stressed
Ok I need to find the right Flower’s to go with Orange?
I am using dress style #8022 from davids bridal in Palm beach colral color. Thet have other styles with that color!
hi. am having my wedding in may. my colours r burnt orange and red. want my wedding to have that sunset look;) any ideas on bridesmaids dresses and e decor?
i’m using orange and fuschia for my june wedding also. my bridesmaids are wearing a dark coral colored dress since the color matches everyones different skin tones and hair colors better than an orange or bright fuschia would. then the flowers and decorations will be mainly fuschia and orange with coral accents to help tie it all together. also, occassions brand had a strapless, tea length fuschia dress with an orange ribbon that tied around the waste if you’re looking for a fuschia dress. i’m glad to know others are using bright colors, especially since i get puzzled looks when i tell someone my color combos.
I’m getting married in St. Thomas and I love the bright tropical colors (Orange, Fuschia, Apple Green and Ocean Blues) I do not like the color Yellow. I’m not sure of how to play with all the colors without it looking like a circus. I would like to have a neutral color like Ivory or Silver and suggestions?
First of all, congrats to the brides to be
I am also a 6/07 bride to be and interested in the fuschia/orange combo, but can’t seem to get my fiance to grasp the idea. Does anyone have any suggestions.:D>-
I am getting married 9/08/07 and having an outdoor garden ceremony with an indoor reception. I have always loved pink and my fiance loves orange so this color combo was perfect for us. I too, was worried at first that orange and fuchsia were going to be “too much”, but since our ceremony will be held outside they should work perfectly. I’ve always loved bright colors like these and think they look gorgeous together.
I found the perfect color fuchsia & orange for my bridesmaids dresses on Coren Moore’s website (www.corenmoore.com). I’m going to have my maid & matron of honor in the tangerine silk shantung and my other 6 bridesmaids in the fuchsia silk shantung. Also, I found the perfect invitations, programs and all other stationary as well as favors & decorations to go along with the colors from http://www.myjeanm.com. The orange and fuchsia ribbons that will accent the invitations and “fan” programs match perfectly with the bridesmaids dresses. Also, pretty much any color flowers look great with this color combo!
Hope this helps some of your questions!! Congrats to everyone & good luck with the planning!!
Any ideas for bridesmaids dresses in orange? Help my date is May 27, 2007 and I haven’t ordered yet. I can’t commit to any of the oranges out there and I haven’t found one I like.
I am getting married May 5th, 2007 and I chose the fuschia and orange theme too. I didn’t want my bridesmaids to have to wear those colors though, so I chose a neutral color of navy blue for their dresses. The mens tux vests will be in navy as well, and the accents (flowers, decorations, invitations, favors, etc) will be in the pink and orange combination. It helps tone down the boldness of the colors to just the accents if you are worried about it being too loud. The best flowers for the spring in those colors are roses and gerbera daisies. The vibrant dahlias don’t bloom until summertime. Good luck ladies! Best wishes for you and your future husbands! – Adriana

Just as I was wondering the same thing, I came upon your post. I am getting married in Jun07 and I agree. I think that orange and fuschia look great together. They are so vibrant and lively. On my happiest day, I want people to feel the jubilee! And when they enter and see those colors I think it will exude happiness. Good luck!
Dahlias are to die for and look beautiful in any vase.
Hello, my pink and fuschia loving ladies! I’m getting married in October next year and am using pink and fuschia. FLOWERS: Peonies are so romantic in their shape and come in a fabulous fuschia color. Could be special order depending on time of year. Tiger lillies come in a great orange. I’m using the peonies in white and fuschia as well as Mums in orange and fuschia because it’s a fall wedding and they’re fall flowers. DRESSES: Alfred Angelo has two colors called Burnt Orange and Magenta that match my scheme perfectly. They’re available in the seperates, too, which is nice. I’m specifying color and just having my bridesmaids pick the styles they’re most comfortable in. Everyone’s happy!
Best wishes to all! Orange and Fuschia are jubilant and joyful and exciting – all the things a wedding should be!
Well, it’s seems as many of us have the same idea. I am getting married june of 2007 and my colors are also fushia and orange. I am having a hard time finding bridesmaid dresses, but I saw one a few years ago by Image studios that was actually both of these colors overlapping sheer. It was awesome.! Good luck with your weddings. Go bold, it’s more fun and just imagine how much more beautiful we women in white will look! ~Terah
I am getting married July 7th 2007 and I am also doing and Orange color for the bridesmaid dresses. I was hesitant at first but then I saw so many beautiful flowers that could go with that. I absolutely love fall colors so I’ll try to incorporate some of that in there. Bottom line is this: Its YOUR wedding and you do what you want!!! ITS YOUR DAY!
P.S. I found beautiful flower ideas that would go great with oranges at http://www.petalsgalore.com
Well iam getting married July of 07 and I want Orange for my color but I can find the right Orange?::-?
I’m a June 07 bride and those are my colors too!
I’m doing a very crisp white with the fuchsia and orange. I’m using a bold color combo but not over done. I’m using more of the hot pink rather than orange…it should be AWESOME! Congratulations on your color choice!
Also, bop around the knot boards. Thats where I got alot of my ideas.
Well i’m getting married in June ’07.
My friend got married last year. She also used the same colour scheme. It was beautiful. Her bridesmaids looked wonderful. They had an organge bodice and an iridescent fuscia fabric for the skirt, which tied the colours together nicely. I think the only thing you need to worry about is not to use TOO MUCH of the colours. Be sparing and I think it will work out great!
Lori-mother of a bride on Oct 21 06-8-09-06 /9:15p.m.
my daughter is getting married inj 6 weeks we also are using fuschia and orange as our colors. Her wedding is going to be an island theme. We’re using bamboo boxes
as our centerpieces with fern and palm tree branches under the boxes. The flowers we are using are orchids, roses, dahlias, lilies, callalillies and lots of greens. The bridesmaids are wearing fuschia, long, v-neck dresses with the same flowers. It should be really pretty. You can use the trendy colors but add your own flare and personalize it to fit your wedding theme.–Lori
It’s nice to know someone else has the guts to do bright colors! I’m also geting married in 6/07 and was thinking of doing fuschia and orange (maybe a little bright green also). But I’m worried that by next summer fuschia is going to be out of style. I try not to be too trendy, but all the colors I see lately are very muted & washed out, and I don’t want my girls looking like fashion victims, you know? – tamara
Here’s another photo from the http://www.save-on-crafts.com
cat, here is an example board i threw together.
Stacey, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS of the example board, I forgot about using champagne color that would be great for the flower girls. I love your ideas,
I will definitely incorporate the ideas what you gave me. Thank you sooooo much. I will send a pic of the boxes, they are about 4×5 there are only about 10-15 they were given to me so I thought I might be able to incorportate in the decor.
cat, i am so happy you liked it!! thank you for allowing me to help you with your special day!!
