Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June next year and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color.

Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

Softer Spring Hues

If you're going for a romantic, soft look, then you'll need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

Be Bold, Be Bright

On the other hand, if you've got a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxesStart with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look's a little more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

Up-to-the-Minute and Modern

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few vibrant accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Go with an all-white cake with a few pops of orange, fuchsia and lime.

Feeling spunky? You could even dress your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns (an ultra-modern look that's super-fresh for summer) with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way.

We were married August 2010 and had my dress material died Fuchsia pink and Tangarine orange. They looked fantastic. We had these colours for our engagement party and our wedding decorations from the seat sash to the cake. I am so happy I went with these colours.

my daughter was married in july 2011 ( recently), she made her own bouquets of silk flowers in fuschia, orange and bright& lemon with pearls dotted about in them she wore a white crystal encrusted wedding dress, the bridesmaids again had the same colour flowers, but ivory flowers, and head bands that i made of ivory, bright lemon and orange flowers, the groom, best man, groomsmen wore grey suits, white shirts and bright yellow ties, the page boy wore grey trousers, white shirt and lemon waistcoat and cravat, and carried an ivory ring pillow, and i have to say the whole wedding party looked STUNNING!!!, i guarantee if you follow this colour scheme your wedding will be ansolutely FABULOUS, ours looked perfect, all the colours worked, such a sucess my daughter has started a new little business as she received 3 orders for bouquets from brides-to-be after seing the photos of our wedding on facebook. x

We are doing tropical themed flowers. I got $9 tall clear vases at Marshall’s and TJ Max. Alternated vases with orange or hot pink stones and am ordering orange and pink lillies from Walmart (6 to a bunch for $5.00) At the Dollar Tree I bought palm tree leaves and will place 2 per table around each vase. We are adding a Beta fish to each vase with snake grass and the 2 lillies and one Bird of Paradise per vase. Stunning!

I would go with the best blooms for your budget, your florist will show you the best blooms for this color scheme and the season. I personally think the guys in grey with the girls in fuschia would give it more of a rock side. For your invites a cool looking scroll motif to carry thruout the wedding on the programs etc. ( like in this wedding) Orchids would be a great choice for this theme.

Hi Stacey, super thanks for your suggestions.. I love the light gray color for my groom.. I’m not sure if stargazer will blend with roses.. my florist suggested purple roses, then there’s a stargazer at the middle.. I encorporated purple and plush pink for my entourage.. thanks for the help. Have a nice day. God bless =)
