Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June of 2007 and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color. Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

If you are going to a romantic, soft look, then you will need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxes Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look is more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few color accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, or holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Your cake could be all-white with a few orange, fuchsia and lime accents.

You could even have your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way with it.

My fiance’s groomsman are wearing blacksuits, black shirts and orange ties. You could do a fuscia tie instead and it would look really pretty too. :D

Venus bridal has a fantastic orange which they call Persimmon that I am using for our wedding for those looking for a good colour. If he is not so into the orange and fuschia colour scheme, add the fresh green. It worked for me and now he loves the look. Bec

Hello Ladies. My wedding is coming up (5/26/07) in Mexico :P. My colors are bright orange with red and I’m also adding the fuschia color to the flower arrangements. My bridesmaids are wearing a bright orange dress, v neck, low back, floor length with a peach sating sash and bow that falls in the back. My matron of honors will have the same dress but with a red sash and bow. A local seamstress is making the dresses. I just picked the fabric.

The flowers for the girls and reception will be loud!:P Red roses, fuschia gerber daisies, orange tiger lilies, yellow water lilies. The tablecloths are white with lace. I’m planning on having bright orange place cards. I’m also wrapping every favor in red/orange gift paper and ribbon. That will make the flowers stand out.

Right now I’m looking for guest books, ring pillow, flower girl baskets in Orange :-?. I found some cute ones on http://www.theknot.com in gold with orange ribbon, but it is not loud enough for me. If anyone knows where I can get some in orange, please let me know. I can add red/orange ribbon myself. I found really good ribbon at costco and michaels.

If anyone wants to see any pics. or get more ideas, email me: jannet02@hotmail.com.

Congratulations to everyone!

Hi guys, getting married in June/07. Bright orange is my colour. but to tone down the dresses, the girls bouquets will be whit calla lilies with some greenery, but mine will be the same flowers but in orange, white, with greenery (4 those whom cant seem to decide.) Any ideas how I can fit orange into my decorations in the hall, as I am stumped for that. thanks

P.S: For dresses try http://www.waimanman.com he has all colours, and custom makes to fit exact size for cheap. This guy is absolutley amazing. He has worked with me for my wedding and I am very pleased with the outcome. See a picture of a dress u like?? Dont pay $3000.00 when u can get it for $200.00 (thats how much my wedding dress caused for an exact replica.) Also does flower girl, and any thing else

hey Ladies!
I too am trying to pull off this colour scheme for my 7/21 fiesta theme wedding . I am also trying to incorporate a dash of lime green and maybe even a deep purple here and there.
I am marrying a scottish man so he and his clan will in kilts so I think I might have to put my girls in black so there isn’t too much clashing going on. This will be interesting. A mexican fiesta/scottish wedding. lol.

Raylia has great chiffon gowns in many colors. I chose Wildberry as the color of my bridesmaid gowns. The fuchsia is pretty too. In my opinion, the bridesmaid gowns are the inspiration for the additional wedding decor. If you’re choosing fuchsia and orange as wedding colors, why not have beautiful, brightly colored bridemaids?

Another orange and fuschia bride-to-be (7/28/07) and we are having an outside evening wedding. I thought of putting my girls in black (the dresses are tea-length, chiffon dresses) with each having an alternative bouquet of either tangerian or fuschia. My fiance’ want he and his guys to wear all black which I think is very elegant. I’m not able to totally embrace any of the tangerine and fuschia that I have seen for potential bridesmaid dresses and I’m worried black might be a bit too much for a summer wedding. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone! I was searching for favor ideas in fuschia and orange and couldn’t believe that I came across a site dedicated to those colors. I love the color scheme and have been totally excited about it since I came across it on theknot.com. In case anyone is not familar with that site it is really helpful. Good luck with everyone ladies and cheers to our good taste. Theresa
