Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June of 2007 and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color. Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

If you are going to a romantic, soft look, then you will need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxes Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look is more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few color accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, or holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Your cake could be all-white with a few orange, fuchsia and lime accents.

You could even have your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way with it.

I just got married last Sat and my colors were pink and orange. I used the colors throughout the entire wedding……my favors were pink and orange m&ms in small clear boxes and we tied a thick orange ribbon around them along with a thin pink ribbon into a bow (hopefully I explained that well) I also used pink and orange gerbera daisies for my flowers in both my centerpieces and me and my wedding parties bouquet. My photographer isn’t quite done with my photos but here is the link to her blog which has a few of my pictures along with my bouquet. http://justmariec.typepad.com/phrecklesphotography/ I must admit, using the gerber daisies was an excellent idea, especially for this color combination and my florist did a WONDERFUL job!!!!! If you would like to see more pictures with these colors, feel free to email me(m_deboise@hotmail.com) and I can let you know when my photographer is done with my site b/c I’m sure she has some great shots of my favors and centerpieces.

Also, my bridemaids wore black dresses. the pink and orange color combo looked great against the black and it worked b/c I had an evening wedding!!!

I am getting married in July of 06. I really loved the fuschia and orange, and lime color combination. However it will be at sunset and I don’t want my bridesmaids to wear white. Do you have any other suggestions? Also the groomsmen will be wearing tux jackets with a shirt and jeans. Should their shirts be white or colored? Thank you! -Abbie:D:D

WOW! I seriously thought I was the ONLY orange and pink fan out there, until I found all of you! lol. I suggested the idea of orange and pink after I picked out a mother’s day card that was done in those colors, and from that moment on I’ve loved it! (even after the strange looks I’ve gotten from everyone else…lol) Anyways, I’ve been trying to decide on the right color for a bridesmaid dress, and I was wondering since I’m getting married June 08 if it would be too much to have black tea-length dresses with an orange sash and then have them carry a bouquet of orange tiger lilies (my favorite!) and a mix of pink and white liles (or roses)…

Maira,
For yellow and orange combo, you can have your bridesmaids wear a yellow dress with an orange sash to compliment it. THey can have bouquets of orange flowers with yellow ribbon or the other way around. I saw a really nice yellow bouquet on http://www.theknot.com. Yellow is an amazing color too.

Country,

I would love to see your pictures of the flowers at moon.moma@verizon.net. I’m also sending best wishes for your up coming marriage. So far I love this site and from all the feedback been and links have been able to put a little more together. We found a wonderful flowergirl dress from Jordons that can be ordered with fuschia flowers that we think will work well. She has also decide to go with the long dress with the top in diamond white and the bottom in fuschia for the bridemaid but of course this can change again.

Kathy,

I’m getting married this August and my colors are fushcia, orange, and lime green. My bridesmaid gowns are wildberry (lighter fuschia, Raylia designs, chiffon) and tea length. My centerpieces are going to be palm leaves with brightly colored blooms and cut fruit (limes, lemons, oranges) in water. I have some pictures of ideas if you want them. My gown is also white chiffon. While I don’t have a flower girl, I think she could wear anything and look great. I wouldn’t stress about the fabric.

My daughter is getting married next May on a Sunday and her colors to are fushica and orange. I like some of the idea people have for this color combination. My question is her gown is made of diamond white chiffon and we are having a hard time finding the flowergirl dress. We decided to have the girls wear tea length dresses. Not to many made in that material. Would a tulle dress look okay with the rest of the dresses in chiffon?

i love gerveras too. i sfancy the idea of having gerberas as button holes. i also want gerberas on my cake and the bridesmaid will probably be holding a few tied gerberas too.

I am getting married in Oct of 07. I, too, am using the orange and pink color scheme. My main reason is because I am OBSESSED with gerber daisies and that is mostly what colors they look best in. I am working everything else around the gerbers. Any ideas, pics, advice would be great as we are also on a limited budget. Anyone ever make their own bouquets? or centerpieces? I don’t know exactly what to do about the bridesmaid dresses…
