Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June of 2007 and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color. Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

If you are going to a romantic, soft look, then you will need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxes Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look is more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few color accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, or holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Your cake could be all-white with a few orange, fuchsia and lime accents.

You could even have your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way with it.

Courtney, you’re a popular gal. :P

Courtney or anyone who has photos to share, please consider uploading them here (up to 3 per post) or uploading as many as you want to the photo gallery at http://photos.favorideas.com/. You don’t even need to register, all you need to do is upload. I will create a special album to organize them, so don’t worry about picking the right category.

This would be a super-cool thing to do for anyone who’s kind enough to participate … and might cut down on the requests for photos, and make someone’s life easier!

Also, if you haven’t seen Jannet’s ‘wedding book’ below, it’s super-fun. It’s a lavish event with (many) bridesmaids in beautiful orange, and about a metric ton of rose petals. Clearly they had fun! Even though it’s at a ‘book’ site, it’s just a (free) collection of photos. It takes a minute or so to download.

I’m trying to figure out a combination of a blue and light orange. What can you suggest? I’ve thought about sky blue and melon orange, but I can’t get it just right. I’ve also thought about throwing chocolate brown into the mix. Any ideas?

This is totally by preference but I always wanted a black white and red/fuschia wedding with my girls in black. The thing I didn’t like was the black dresses next to the guys tuxedos it made the picture look blah. So just look at pics before you decide!

Hey Brides,
I’m planning my wedding for Mid July of 09 (i know a little far away) and I’m trying to figure out what I want to do. I love the color scheme of Orange and Fushia and I was wondering do you think it would be ok to put my girls in black dresses? I know it’s right in the middle of summer so I’m playing around with the idea. If anyone could let me know I would really appreciate it. My e-mail is: daddyslilangel612@yahoo.com
Thanks so much and good luck planning!

Orange & fuchsia are my colors for my 2008 summer wedding. I think they’re gorgeous together. I love the idea if adding the lime in.

Hello Ladies,
I too am using a orange and fuschia color scheme for my November 08 Wedding. I was thinking of having a “Chocolate” Theme since my fiance and I love chocolate;) What does everyone think about Chocolate brown dresses (possibly with orange / fuschia sashes), Chocolate fountain, chocolate martini’s, choclate favors exc… With orange/fuschia accents, decor & flowers.

Also, If the girls wear brown will that clash with the guys in black? any ideas, comments and especially photos of orange/fuschia/brown please e-mail me at stellabella103@yahoo.com.

Thanks and good luck to all of you on your wedding planning:?

Hi Everyone. I am getting married in May 08. I am going for a tropical spring wedding! At first I was nervous about all the bright colors. But the first thing that I did was pick out the color dress that I want, and I picked out flower colors from there. I picked out like a pretty bright sea blue for the dresses. From there I knew that I didn’t want blue flowers so I brought a sample color of the dresses to the florist and the pink and orange flowers looked awesome. So I would suggest picking out the bridesmaid dresses first, and pick some accents from there. If anybody wants some good pics go to the knot, put in the color scheme for the dresses and it will come up with that color dresses and boquets that the wedding used. They have some great ideas, that is where I got my blue dress idea with pink and orange accent flowers. :P

I have been asking for ideas and think that I have come up with what I think should work best. My girls are in a tea length fuschia dress and the guys will be in all black tux with the a large single accent fuschia daisy flower. The girls will have orange in there bouquettes to bring in the color scheme. I was hesitant at first but as I found/seen pics of other weddings like that and it reall does look nice and now I am very excited!!!

Hey girls! Congratulations! I got married in State College, PA on August 4th, 2007. I had fuschia bridesmaid’s dresses, beautiful brightly colored bouquets, citris fruit centerpieces, a fabulously colorful cake, and a candy bar stocked with yummy treats. Here is a link to my pictures. Happy planning!

I found an awesome orange bridesmaid dress with some fuschia undertones from Jenny Yoo, but I don’t want my bridesmaids to have to pay over $300 for the dresses. Has anyone found a similar color dress that is more affordable?

I, too, am using orange and fuschia for my wedding colors. I already bought the wedding dress and bridesmaid dress…brides is ivory/gold and the bridesmaids are tea length fushia. I am having troubles with my groomsmen. I lookied at davids, afterhours, and mens warehouse. We dressed the guys in different types….my prob is there is no oranges hardly and fuschia (not to mention the guys don’t really want to wear that color - fuschia) Do the groomsmen have to match the bridesmaids, can I put the grooms in orange?? Please give me any and all ideas and if anyone has any pics that would be wonderful. I am using gerbra daisies for the added color. My email is pattiandwade@hotmail.com. Thank you.

I plan on getting married soon and we’ve picked orange as our main color. We dont know what color will go with orange but we need a contrasting color that is not as bright. Does anyone have an idea? we thought of cream. What do you guys think considering our complexion (black) ?:D
