Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June of 2007 and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color. Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

If you are going to a romantic, soft look, then you will need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxes Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look is more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few color accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, or holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Your cake could be all-white with a few orange, fuchsia and lime accents.

You could even have your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way with it.

Okay, here is a serious treat for anyone having an orange and pink wedding. Allegra gave me permission to post some of her wedding shots. That was a few weeks ago, right when the contractors came in and starting knocking everything down here.

When I finally saw them I realized I would have a serious problem choosing just three or six pictures. It was impossible. So I started putting them together, trying to limit myself as much as possible for practical reasons. Didn’t really succeed!

I know ‘elegant’ is the most overused word ever for weddings, but anyone having a hard time picturing fuchsia, orange, and elegance HAS to check out this quick taste of Allegra’s gorgeous garden ceremony/pink & orange wedding. Thank you Allegra! :?

my colors for my wedding are orange green and gold and it’s not too bright, actually they all came together really well. my flowergirls are wearing all white with an 8 inch orange organza sach. I think you have to use rich materials to pull the colors together, I am also using a lot of silk calli lillies and use green bamboo to tone down the orange

You should check out the Alfred Angelo catalogue. It has alot of color mixes that you would not usually gravitate to. But they are beautiful! Hope i could help!

I am torn on colors for a beach wedding in Florida. At first I thought turquoise, then fuschia and lime green accents, and now mango with deep purple and lime green accents. Does anyone have ideas on how to pull this off to look tropical but still classy and not just look tacky?! THANKS!

Hey pink and orange ladies. I am so excited that you ladies are contemplating those colors. I got married in June and absolutely loved the way my wedding turned out. Please feel free to visit my wedding pictures website. Email me at allegra_08@hotmail.com and I will give you access. My family thought I was crazy. They wanted me to do girly soft tones and I did not want that. I am vibrant and colorful and I wanted my wedding to be the same.

Hi I am also lovong the bright colors! I’m thinking about having a big mixture pink, orange, lime green and dark purple. I did like the black but my guys are wearing black so having the girls in black also would be too much do you think? So for my reception I could add some black but now I’m undecided on black or brown. If anyone has any ideas or opinions please email me at truckin5528@aol.com thank you and best wishes to everyone

Again, I’ve got fushia bridesmaids, MOB in pale pink. Is camel ok for a March 8 wedding? It’s still officially inter, but I feel like the wedding party is thinking spring colors. I’m MOG and am looking at beige colors. Camel seems too orange, ivory seems to bridal, where’s my happy beige?

Im getting married March 22, 2008. Are colors are going to be blue and yellow… (more like a bright springy blue.) And we want to go with just simple white and yellow shasta daisies. Are budget is fairly small… my bridesmade will wear blue. Does anyone have any pictures using these colors or any ideas?

I think the pictures are lovely. I don’t see the moms though. I’m the mother of the groom and the mother of the bride has already picked pink, and I like sage green. So that is a viable idea. Any others with pics?

Whatever they want, of course! Mother of the bride wore a sage green floor length gown (Raylia) and Mother of the groom wore soft pink. Check out my pictures if you’d like to see the mothers with the bridesmaids.

I found this picture of a centerpiece that uses the same colors you were thinking of using. Hope this gives you a little inspiration.

If those are the colors you like, they will be great. If you are having trouble finding the two colors together, try doing things like having the bridesmaids wear turquoise and carry orange roses. There are beautiful orange flowers ie. roses, grebera daisies. You can use the same flowers as centerpeices and use blue ribbon or blue vases. The color combination might not be typical but there are ways to make it work.

Okay guys, you are going to love this … Courtney has made her photos available in the photo album. Go here:
http://photos.favorideas.com/thumbnails-8.html

You’ll find some really cute gerber arrangements, a cookie table that stretches out for miles, a bright blue wedding bus, what appear to be the First Dog (or possibly the First Counter Surfer). There’s a cake that totally captures the playful feel of the color scheme, next to an adorable groom’s cake. Oh, and you are going to love the place card holders … what a great use for jelly beans!

PS, I’m going to clean up comments below now that the pictures are available for the clicking. Please don’t take it personally if your comment asking for pictures is removed, I just want to make sure that photo requests slow down now that they’re available.

PS, there was trouble uploading the photos, so if anyone else has trouble uploading, please leave a comment and I’ll try to help.

Thanks again Courtney! :P
