Is Orange & Fuchsia Too Loud for a Wedding?

Hi — I'm getting married in June of 2007 and I really like the idea of combining fuchsia with some kind of orange. But I'm having trouble finding the right flowers if I dress my bridesmaids in that color. Can you help me — and reassure me that these colors aren't too loud? — Kristina

Dear Kristina:

Fuchsia and Orange together can be absolutely wonderful. How you pull it off will depend a lot on the overall look you want to create.

If you are going to a romantic, soft look, then you will need to tone it down a bit. A bouquet with a variety of colors: pale pinks, white, pale yellow, and just a few hints of orange and fuchsia will bring in those colors softly.

One of the bouquets shown here is done in different color roses. If you decide to go this route, make sure to follow suit in your decor: soft colors, and a few strong accents. Another thing to consider is a softer bridesmaid color. Sashes are very popular right now, and a bridesmaid dress in a softer color with a nice bright sash would look stunning. Perhaps pale pink with alternating orange and fuschia sashes?

On the other hand, if you have a flair for the dramatic, these two colors can be used to create a beautiful and yet unique statement at your wedding as well!

monogram favor boxes Start with the bright-colored gowns, and use bright colors for the flowers as well. A brighter bouquet shown here uses fuchsia, oranges and purples for a beautiful and elegant look.

This look is more exotic, so look for flowers with an exotic style: birds of paradise, calla lilies, and so on. (You may want to consider going with silk, as these flowers tend to get costly.)

Then carry the color throughout your wedding. Use bold colors for your centerpieces, wedding cake, napkins, etc. Make sure you also use a bold color for the men's vests and flowers so that it blends together well.

For a cool, contemporary modern look, consider combining your pinks and oranges with bright lime.

For the flowers, pick a simple, streamlined bouquet made with long-stem fuchsia and orange calla lilies, or gerbera daisies.

Then for your decor, use white clean lines everywhere, with just a few color accents.

For example, your tables could be crisp, stark white with clean glass containers filled with limes and water, each tied with orange or fuchsia ribbon, or holding a bright colored gerbera as the centerpiece. Your cake could be all-white with a few orange, fuchsia and lime accents.

You could even have your bridesmaids in white tea-length gowns with orange, fuchsia and lime sashes if you wanted to go all the way with it.

I am also using Hot Pink and Orange for my wedding which is July 26 2008. The BM are wearing black dresses but there flowers will be hot pink and orange. The guys are wearing a black tux and shirt and the tie is orange. I plan for the flower girls dresses to be orange and the ring bearer is wearing the same as the groomsmen. The guest tables at the reception are going to have white linen with a black overlay and the centerpieces are the tall flute vases with hot pink and orange floral arangement sitting on a mirror and tea light candles on the mirror so the candlelight can reflect off the mirror.

I’m getting married in October of 2008. Does these colors work for Oct. I love the color, this was a wedding of a friend’s friend and i fell in love with the colors and flowers, roses and gerber daisies. Also I like the color of the dresses they are wearing, what color would you say that was, its not really coral is it…I just can’t decide. But anyone have any suggestions of just anything related to the wedding. Also what should the mens boutioniers be? email me at abugg0002@kctcs.edu

I really love this pink and white bouquet, but our wedding is this Oct. so I want to incorporate some fall-themed colors into it without transforming it completely. Do you know of any good ways to do that? I also want some pretty fall-colored bouquets (the other picture) for the maids, what would be good for theirs? Thanks so much! -Lacy

Stephanie,
You are the best. I ordered the fuschia, but they are out of orange. I am going to try to mix it with another orange marble and see how that comes out.

Hi Nadira, here are a few pics and ideas for you. First, Wildflower Linens. They are the kings of table design and color coordination. Check out their site for heartbreakingly perfect tables and risk having your standards uncomfortably raised forever! Here are a few pics of green and fuchsia themes they’ve done.

Then, a lovely bouquet from The Bride & Bloom, a site with no shortage of truly innovative flower and decor ideas.

Finally, a “feisty” (lol) cake from one of my favorite designers, PinkCakeBox. I hope this gets you started!

All,
I to am having an orange and fuschia colored wedding on July 19, 2008.

Here’s my question:
Our centerpieces are tall vases with goldfish in them…thus the orange. But we want to have orange and fuschia glass rocks/pebbles on the bottom of the vases. I have found the orange but I can’t find fuschia.

Does anyone knwo where I can find fuschia glass rocks/marbles for the bottom?

Thanks,
Ann

HI, I TOO LIKE THE IDEA OF ORANGE AND FUSHIA. I HAD ORIGINALLY PAIRED IT OFF WITH CHOCOLATE TABLE LAMOUR LINENS WITH TABLE ACCENTS IN FUSHIA AND ORANGE WITH A TOUCH OF GOLD (VERY RICH AND ELEGANT COLORS). MY SISTER IN LAW USE CHOCOLATE AND PINK SO MY MOM IS PRESSURING ME TO USE SOMETHING OTHER THAN CHOCOLATE. I REALLY WANT TO KEEP IT RICH. CAN BLACK REPLACE THE CHOCOLATE? I AM THINKING BLACK BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES, BLACK WITH A BURNT ORANGE/PERSIMMON VEST/TIE FOR THE GUYS. I THINK THAT WILL LOOK GREAT BUT I AM CONFUSED ON HOW TO LAYOUT THE RECEPTION? FUSHIA TABLE LINENS, GOLD CHIAVARI CHAIRS WITH ORANGE/FUSHIA/GOLD FLOWER/TABLE ACCENTS? PLEASE HELP!!! THANKS
