The mighty iPod vs. The DJ
An article from the Cincinatti Inquirer covers a trend that seems likely to have some DJs quaking in their boots — more and more techie couples are saying “I do” to plugging their stuffed-to-the-max iPods into a sound system instead of engaging the traditional record-spinner.
Reasons given for picking the palm-sized dynamo include:
- lower cost
- the belief that a DJ wouldn’t have the indie or offbeat music the couple loves
- profound dislike of the Chicken Dance or the “single ladies” dance
- feeling the iPod is especially appropriate for a small, non-traditional wedding
Cost isn’t quite the factor you’d think, though. While a DJ on the low end might run you about $300-400, it’ll cost you about $150 to rent a sound system.

I always hear that whole “who will push the buttons on the ipod” thing during this discussion. Really, how hard is it to walk past an ipod and push a button?
It’s kind of like do it yourself dentistry. You COULD get some pliers and try it but probably better to hire a Pro. An iPod still needs someone to cue up songs and push the buttons.
