A Guide to Fall Wedding Flowers
But lately, plenty of brides have come to see the charms of a September or October wedding, with all its New England splendor.
After all, the colors are rich and the scents and spices are vibrant. Best of all? You can buy dramatic fall decorations cheaply at any one of a hundred farmers markets along the road. Perhaps for all these reasons, autumn is now one of the year's most popular times to tie the knot.
With all this enthusiasm comes some beautiful trends in bouquets.
First, we can probably safely say that the queen of the fall bouquet is the majestic mini calla lily, which combines pure elegance with an incredible range of colors to choose from. And it's especially strong in the burnt orange and flame hues that autumn brides crave in their flowers.
Hydrangea is another fall classic that looks great anywhere from swanky nighttime ballrooms to looming barns. Available in an incredible range of shades, hydrangea can also be easily "tipped" with an aerosol by a florist to deepen or control the shade. Another plus: hydrangeas are much cheaper than callas!
The rose in its deeper, more burgundy hues combines all that's classic romance with the special gravity we associate with autumn. Roses in coral shades, too, bring a special, unexpected grace note to the fall bouquet.
Finally, autumn offers an opportunity to experiment with creative and woodsy bouquet choices, including seed pods, hypericum berries, ryegrass and bittersweet vines. Some of the most charming (if unconventional) bouquets and boutonniéres use copper wire to gorgeous effect.

hello,
but i need some help!
im getting next year sept 4th. its not really a fall wedding but its in a fall month. my bridesmaids dresses are the color plum and i really want to keep the color theme of the decorations and flowers around the same color, but i really dont even have alot of ideas. i still have a lot of time but i do want to start the search early
p.s. the picture of the bouquet is kind of an idea of what i want but i really want to put in some fall colors???
yorkis,
can i see your venue to determine what kind of decor youwill need? love your bouquet!
hi stacey,
but its a pretty average sized veterans post called the crystal room it has the dance floor right in the middle of it and red carpet, the walls are like wood. it has chandalier looking lamps on a couple of corners of it as well.
i dont have a picture of the venue, i took one with my phone but now i cant find it.
well i hope that helped.
yorkis,
not a problem if i can get the name of it and location i can pull it up. i just need to study the room and see what it needs. thanks!!
Its Athenia veterans post: crystal room. Its in clifton, NJ.
thanks a bunch!
yorkis,
unfortunately i cant find a website that will post a pic. if you could find a pic and post it, i can look at it and see what is the best decor and colors. i am sorry for the inconvenience thank you!!
Hello,
I am getting married July 17 2010. My bridesmaid dresses are like a harvest gold color. im not sure which colors i should use red or apricot roses. I really need help on which would look better against the gold. thanks….
Crystal,
actually i would do both. apricot will blend in with the dress and red alone will look holidayish. a way to keep apricot from blending is to add lots of greenery.
*bouquets
*WOW! this is unique and stunning!
*this would work cause it has tinges of both colors

GREAT COMMENT STACEY,
I WOULD DO THAT.
I found this decorating idea in Better Homes and Gardens and Im going to use it for decorating my tables. I think it is beautiful. Im going to use the colors from my bouquet to put in each gourd, along with some ribbon and babies breath. have a great day everyone.
Hi, I am getting married October 23, 2010 and I am struggling on the colors I want to use. I have found my bridesmaids dresses at dessy and they are a butterscotch color — that is the dress I think I may go with but I am pretty sure that is the color I will be using. I really like the burnt orange color at davids so I am kind of torn. I will be wearing a ivory dress. I am getting married at a outside chapel on the border or NC and SC. It is an open chapel overlooking the mountains. I have no idea what flowers I should go with for me or for my girls. For the reception I would like to use the pumpkins for the centerpieces but again not sure of the colors for flowers. I want it to be somewhat elegant but not over the top…anyone have any suggestions??
I was planning an October beach wedding, but had to change it to Nov 18th. It will be me and my fiancee. We have to move it to November and I still have my heart set on a beach wedding. I wanted to make sure I had some fall colors along with some pink. I added some pictures of my flowers and my dress. But since it will be November Im thinking i need to get a different dress with a heavier materal. Yes we are still getting married on the beach, but it will be when the sun is out and hopefully warm. Should I get another dress or maybe a light shawl. Help
ginger, can you tell me the beach location. does it get really cool there in november. i do love the dress you have. i couldnt tell what the fabric was…are there layers in the skirt? it is beautiful and the bouquet really compliments it. i can just see the long ribbons flowing in the ocean breeze. this is what i would base my decision on. can you return your dress and get a refund or a credit toward another dress? if not, then i would suggest a beautiful shawl. if you are dealing with unpredictable temperatures, i would be afraid if you got a different dress and that dress may end up to warm for the day, but keep your dress and add a shawl and your comfy either way no matter the temps. bridal shops can add sleeves to a dress that will compliment it. so that is another option.
**being a beach setting, and you choose to get another dress keep it on the lighter/thicker fabric side. cause a heavy dress that “tradtional” autumn weddings have will be to heavy for the beach even in november.
this is a description of the dress…
Elegantly flowing A-line dress with shirred empire bodice and hand-beaded waistband. Double spaghetti straps form a graceful A that accentuates the neckline. An ethereal look that flatters every shape. Fully lined. Back zip. Imported polyester.
thank you Ginger
I had my wedding in October last year using latte and truffle from Davids bridal. I have tons of decorations and even getting rid of bridesmaid dresses and my wedding dress plus all the accessories. The flowers we used were cala lilies in a purple and mango color and I got sooooo many comments on the colors, more so than on the dresses :-) If anyone is interested please email at tcapezza@yahoo.com
I’m having a wedding this November in Michigan and am still looking for an affordable wedding reception place. Anyone have any ideas?
I am using those same colors for my fall wedding and the colors for the bridal party (in David’s Bridal lingo) are truffle and latte.
Try a chocolate tux or a tan tux instead of black for the fall
Hi not sure if im doing this correct but ill give it a shot. my wedding is this november 28th. i had my heart set on a beach wedding but just finished school so this summer didnt work. We considered destination but decided that wasnt the way to go. So now im stuck with planning a fall/winter wedding. my dress is white, a goddess dress as they call it. I dont want to do a christmas or fall theme, i was thinking of actually just gearing my decor more towards a romantic theme. late at night with alot of candles and white lights. My girls will be wearing pewter, i think… i wanted bright colors until we changed to november. then i was thinking all white flowers. for everyone. I want romantic but casual at the same time, we are doing a cocktail reception so everyone can make the most of the evening eating and dancing. Would all white be too much? I was thinking all white linen as well with hurricans and votives of candles on the tables for center peices
Elyse,
what your saying sounds so beautiful! i love the white flowers. i made a board for you with a “pop” of yellow or even a pale tangerine would work for the brides bouquet. to make the bride just stand out!!
It sounds gorgeous! Pewter is such a GREAT color for a winter wedding. You could do a winter romance theme with pewter, black, and white and have red flowers… and yellow… wow!! That will be gorgeous!!
I am having an October 2010 Wedding at hemingbough plantation in louisiana and i really need some decor and flower tips. My colors are Burnt orange and wine. I want to have calla lilies, roses, hypericum berries for sure in the bouquets and i would love to decorate with pumpkins somehow. Any ideas

Hi,
I am planning a wedding Oct 2 2010 and am my wits end trying to decide on things. So far. all I know is that I am going for a somewhat rustic/country theme, with fall colors….but which colors, I don’t know! Also, I have bronzed lanterns for my centerpieces but have no idea what else to put on the reception tables that could create color. I have real simple tastes..like things brown and neutral…like rafia, branches, etc. Please any ides?
I’m getting married in November 09, and we’re using red velvet leaves, orange/yellow japanese lantern silk flowers, and berries, all from Michael’s arts and craft store. It looks pretty cool, and will give some vibrance to our dark wood and plaster venue. Burgundy and gold would work too…it depends on what colors you are incorporating into your dresses, flowers, invites…
Stephanie,
To add color to your centerpieces you could add colorful leaves, or branches. But adding branches won’t give color it will give a rustic feel. But I love the idea of both! Hope this helps!
My daughter is getting married in Sept. 09. We already have the colors and dresses. It is going to be outside with the reception inside. I am trying to find some ideas for flower arrangements for outside. Her colors are champange and Clover. The flowers they are carring are orange and yellows. I want to keep the flowers the same with added color. I do not know what kind of containers to put them in, any help would be appriecated.
Thanks
Kristi
Now this wedding is going to be the middle of November, outdoors at a winery(weather permitting) with the reception inside an Italian Tuscan type building. We still want a jeweltone blue for bridesmaid dresses. Should we go with Fall or sort of winter ideas as far as accent colors an decorations? Or should we concentrate on a theme, rather than a season? Any ideas?
aggie,
i would actually go with a vineyard wedding theme. instead of a season.

Thank you for all the links. There are so many ideas to ponder.
I am so excited about having a fall wedding! I just got engaged, so I only have 2 months to plan. After reading all the different color ideas, I am as confused as ever on what colors & flowers to choose for decor. I live in Louisiana, so I will have an early afternoon ceremony at an outdoor amphitheater overlooking a lake, and the reception is at the same location but inside a hall overlooking the lake. The date is October 4, so I want the Fall colors. Without a wedding party, I am free to choose any colors, so I do not know where to start!!! I know that I want to incorporate eggplant into the decor.
april,
Hi!! i am from louisiana too! can i see your venue? i will be able to pull some ideas together quickly. plus you may not need much decor fromthe sounds of it. eggplant is a wonderful place to begin. there are so many colors that will work with that in the fall. do you want it simple and elegant, not competing with the scenery or bold and colorful? cant wait to see the venue!!
also what time of day is your wedding?
hi stacey! a fellow louisiana gal! nice to meet you. well, the venue has changed, thanks to my fiance, so now it will be held in our church. the reception is going to be in the fellowship hall. it’s a typical bland fellowship hall with a small stage in the front where the ceremony will be held. i want simple and elegant. The ceremony will be held at 5 in the evening. i’m sorry, but i cannot find a picture on the church website of the hall.
april,
that is okay. do you remember, at least, the colors of the fellowship hall. typically they are white and some shade of blue or wine. if you could give me some vitals i will put together a mood board. i already got some ideas but i dont know if they will work. it sounds like it is fairly good size room. also do you have low or tall ceilings, this will matter for your centerpieces. cause if you use all low centerpieces in a high ceiling it can leave it cold feeling. you can do tall centerpieces well within any budget too. and an evening ceremony i would use lots of candles. are to willing to use natural foilage, pumpkins, etc. or would you rather not. i can honestly say, if you use what is in season and readily available or waht you have, it will make it pretty easy. i know roses are a typical wedding flower, but when your wanting simple elegance it is so the way to go. not to mention if you can get them in bulk, which will make it less expensive. also if you stick to one type flower in one color wou will have saved yourself a load of planning right there. with 2 months i would make it as simple as possible. are you wanting to rent linens or is the hall providing items that you will be using? i know it is alot of questions and your planning on short time. i just want to make sure i pull the ideas that will work and compliment otherwise it will waste time and i dont want you to be stressed. i am gonna go right now and start saving some ideas. talk to you soon!
april,
i have some eye candy for you….

i am loving the scott skrove wedding, it is fall themed without the pumpkins etc. i love calla lilies for the florals, they make such a statement. and you can get those in eggplant and pair with oranges and deep mauves. i absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the aisle decor. there are no florals and renting standing candle holders would be cheaper(usually) you wouldnt have to have that many. you could go as far as carrying the iron candle holders for your reception centerpieces too, having a pillar candle surrounded by small votives on the tables. having a calla lily at each place setting. or tuck lots of foilage under edges of the base. use magnolias leaves, berry branches etc. for this. i love magnolias and i think it is a great way to use a resource that we have. this is what i mean by making it cheaper. let me know if any of these stood out to you.

april,
i would add some burgundy or wine with the eggplant and orange so it would be a subtle color flow. you could also just add berries. think calla lilies, that have gradual fades of color; orange callas with a tinge of red( in the forms of burgundy or wine) or just have a few fall leaves in the mix, it will add a subtle shade of red. like the pic of the bouquet in main page above. as far as champagne, i was thinking you could add neutrals like champagne linens to warm it up a bit. did you find out if the hall provides linens? if so what color are they? if they are white that is okay. just have your eggplant and orange( with tinges of red) and add some fall leaves. like in this blog…

you’ve been a fantastic help!!! i’ve decided on the burnt orange roses, creamy white hydrangea, white table linens & accents of chocolate & shimmery gold. should be fun putting it all together! thanks a million!!!
april,
i apologize for so many posts. i am having problems with my internet provider service and it is throwing me offline today. hopefully it will go back to the norm soon. so i decided to make you a board anyway. i mixed glamour by adding a rhinestone accent to fall decor. for the centerpieces i thought floating plums would look amazing if you didnt want to use apples. it would pull in more of the eggplant color. then put on champagne linens with eggplant colored napkins. use a rhinestone band for napkin rings. very simple rhinestone bracelets ( costume jewelry) will work. think child sized bracelets. i added a eggplant bridesmaid dress anyway just to show more of the purple and how it woul look against all the decor. if youwanted to have your bouquet colorful, then a super easy way to decorate would be champagne or plum linens, champagne roses( the bulk flower i mentioned) add plum and/or orange autumn artificial berry sprays you find at hobby lobby, ( alot of times you can find gorgeous fall berry sprays in elegant combo colors) and plum or burnt orange napkins with the jeweled rings.
the last decor idea i have simple floating plums or fruit in cylinder vases from saveoncrafts.com
i know you are on limited time and am trying to find alot of stuff for you to look at.
april,
forgot your board.
Thank you so much for all of your help. Now I have a lot of ideas to go from.
I’m having a Nov 20, 2009 wedding. Having a hard time deciding on flowers. My colors are champange & latte. I really want to incorporate the fall colors in it…coppers, reds, golds, orange & maybe berries. Just need some ideas of how to put all these together. I really like calla lillies.

Take care,

Hey i am also thinking of a fall wedding, I love any color of pink but i cant seem to find any color to go with it, I have absolutley drove myself crazy with it, if anyone could, please give me some advice for another color..
candace,
have youthought about pink and brown. i know its popular but it would be so gorgeous paired with fall leaves in the “other” fall colors.( muted colors like pinks, golden, etc) like here…
*new york library wedding
( you will have to click on the new york library link) i think this is perfect!!) if you dont like brown you could use eggplant and have guys in traditional black. i am loving this so much!! love, love, LOVE; the fall leaves centerpiece!! the rose, green, and other fall leaves are gorgeous!
Hello, I am getting married October 17th this year. I have VERY little experience with weddings and I am defintiely not the most creative person
My dress is ivory and my bridesmaids dresses are a dark purple like an eggplant, not burgundy. I am hoping to do something very simple and inexpensive with flowers. I was thinking of either incorporating some orange with purple or this might not be so much fall but using some other purples like a lilac. I don’t know if there is a flower that looks good just being held on its on or maybe just 2 or 3 flowers tied with a rubbon for my 2 co- maid of honors. I am totally cluless in case you could not tell so any help would be appreciated!
christine,
you are in luck!! hydrangea is the perfect flower to use!! another one is calla lilies. any flwoer that has a bulky flower head. i do recommend hydrangeas. they can be pricey so i would shop around. fiftyflowers.com and saveoncrafts.com are great resources. alot of the times you can go supermarket florals and walk away with tremendous bargains!! even a supermarket florist.

i think a gorgeous fall hydrangea bouquet would be perfect. dont overlook the hydrangeas that look eggplant with a small bit of gold or sage inthem.
Hi, I too am struggling with choosing colors. My wedding is in November, outdoors, on a river deck in coastal NC. The area will be tented and the tents lit with white christmas lights.
I like the idea of a deep purple for the wedding party and then using ivory or light gold linens. Thinking to do some kind of white candles with faux grapes and grapevine for centerpieces.
The thing is, I really love the bright oranges, reds, etc of gerbera daisies and the like. Can I get your thoughts?
paula,
i really love what your thinking!! i love the you tent idea. i would keep that the same. also for a lil’ xtra shimmer add spray glitter to edges of faux grapes. i would use different colors of grapes on the centerpieces ranging from red, green, purple grapes. to pull in more of the colored bouquet( in pic). or submerge grapes ( just like they do apples and limes!!) in large cylinder with floating candle with smaller height cylinders ( without the grapes) with floating candles. you could also incorporate frosted faux grapes in and out of centerpiece but check to see if its to busy. the cylinders may work out just fine alone!!
ok for the dress i picked a plum/aubergine and paired it with the fall colors you love. i thought if you use the ivory linens with your centepieces under the tent with white it would be sooooo gorgeous!! i wouldnt use any other colored flowers inthe decor, if you want to add white gerbera daisies and white roses in the mix that would be fab, otherwise, use greenery here and there for a lush look. these 2 bouquets would work VERY well with this dress. i love gerbera daisy and rose bouquets, here they have added a deeper burgundyish gerbera daisy that would go super well with the dress. if you do the flowers like this then pull the purple in around the stems and the other elements that look purplish.
Stacy I love the purple dress. That is the exact thing I am looking for my bridesmaids…where did you find it? Also I would love to pick your brain for some ideas for my wedding. I have been coming up with so many ideas but I need help tying them in together and also minimizing because I don’t want too much going on.
mandi, just let me know your ideas and i will do what i can. i tried to find the dress but couldnt. i have dont have a history on it anymore. if i run across it i will post it right away.
Ok here is the run down. My wedding date is 10/08/10. The ceremony is outside and the reception is inside of a glass atrium (picture above). My dress is a classic style with a modern twist. It is an ivory slim a-line fit, sweet heart neck line, with full lace and and beading. I love the color purple and I have really liked the darker plum/augberine tones. I plan on having 3 bridesmaids and they will all wear the same dress which will be purple. For my other colors I am thinking a darker orange, maybe a burgundy, gold, and accents of cream might look nice (any suggestions?) So for my bouquet so far I have liked the mango mini-calla lilies and the ebb tide rose. I also liked a lot of the flowers that are listed above on the website but I am not sure which would look best, too many to chose from. As for my reception decorations im not sure what to do. I know I want a romantic intimate feeling but I am not sure how to stage my site to get that effect. Please let me know what you think or if you need any more details. Thanks!

mandi,
i love the atrium. for romance, choose plenty of candlelight.

(i found this and its so romantic PLUS it incorporates the purple!! yeah!!) this one….i would draw inspiration from. it would be heavenly inthe atrium especially when you envision an atrium the first thing that comes to mind it plants and flowers, and i think this one hit the head onthe nail!! perfect for the entire color scheme, venue, and style of your dress!! that is what i was searching for when i was looking. if you want gold, just have chamapgne gold linens.
I think I’m in the same boat as most of the other brides on here. However, I’m still unable to come up with decisions for flowers and decorations for my wedding. My wedding is going to be November 28th, 2009. I’m technically in the fall time of year, but also near the beginning of December. Would be it too late in the season to use the fall theme? Or should I just choose a color theme rather than a season?
julie,
actually you could go with either theme. why not a color theme with maybe touches of winter and fall. that way it covers both aspects fall and winter’s crisp air. i thought ( another unique idea) would be using fall leaves barely kissed by snow ( google image fall leaves and snow for a look at this beautiful combo) i think it would lend a gorgeous twist!! think of faux fall leaves with fake ice and snow( craft stores) sitting elegantly in urns for centerpieces or lanterns with candles inside a bed of snow and the icy leaves in urns around the room. a simple green and white theme would be perfect for this. having girls in emerald green with the leaves pulling in pops of color, have branches larger urns placed at alter and in reception area. against linens and green napkins it would be a jawdropper!! all of this should be super reasonable to buy and diy. they make a ice crystal spray.
this is a knockout color scheme and perfect for a late fall early winter wedding.
do you have any colors picked out that youlove? what is your overall vision and mood you would like to set? let me know further. also head to theknot.com and check out wedding photos it is a gallery of different colored weddings. it might help you to see what interests you. talk to ya soon!!
My wedding is not until Oct 10′ but I am a planner. It is a greek military wedding and I have designed the girls and my dress to be grecian. I wanted to do the girls dresses in all different colors matching what would be best for their complexions and hair color. I want them to look their best too! So the colors are burgundy, champagne/gold, peacock green, peacock blue, and plum. Fall colors to go with the season. I am however wavering on the bouquets. Flowers are expensive and I am on a strict budget. I was thinking feather bouquets but with all the choices I am not sure which ones to incorporate, obviously the peacock feather but does anyone have any suggestions on how to tie in the other colors as well?
Centerpieces I was thinking little red votive candle holders and a mixture of pumpkin spice candles and non-scented. As well as waxed leaves and little pumpkins and gourdes.
Does all this clash, do I have too much going on? These were all ideas I have just manhipulated for the past couple of months, too many choices. Ahhh!
jessey, okay i think i might have found something. i love the champagne and gold for the linens. a nuetral backdrop to bring in bolder colors. i am not sure i would do the gourds and pumpkins. i do think this pic says fall without those items though you can mix in tiny pumpkins and gourds into the fruit, with fruit being totally grecian. but that is as far as i would go on the fruit/veggie mix. have urns ( you should be able to rent these for a small amount) have fruit etc. spilling over in the urns( faux or the beaded looking faux fruit would be so great too! not to mention resusable!!) on dinner napkins set in center of plates have a single peacock feather and tie with a ribbon. it will make a completed look. or to save a bundle have trailing ivy in the rented urns for centerpieces, axe feathers on napkins if you do this, place them elsewhere. ( this can be free especially if you have an available garden or potted plants) then keep tiered plates of abundant fruits ( as in picture) in strategic places. peacock feathers can be pricey depending where you live so think stategic and place a few in bouquets( small amount). bouquets dont have to be expensive. i am betting the feathers may cost more than flowers, so check out craft stores. have a gold and white cake. set on a inexpensive piece of plum draped satin. i would use white candles in clear votives and attach greenery ( like in pic shown) , this will set a flowing look. i would steer clear of scented candles do to guests, the scents may irritate allergies etc. so unscented white is the way to go. dont be afrais to check out supermarket flowers. realsimple.com has a great way to diy on fresh bundles of flowers. if you have no flowers anywhere else i would head to walmart and buy some roses(1/2 dozen $5) or daisies( which was used for head wreaths or ivy) and trailing ivy( preferred grecian look) dont overlook the garden center those plants can be cut and used. keep your florals in odd numbers never even it makes for a better look.
*grecian wedidng board ( here is the wedding cake i mentioned; grapevine is another idea)
let me know what ya think!! another cute idea for kid/adult favors would be setting out a “pick a pumpkin” patch outside with a sign that says Take One!! in a old world writing. perfect and just in time for jack o lanterns!! for a lil’ touch of fall.
jessey, ohyeah the fruits would pull in the fall colors. if you get roses buy mixed colors and diy in burgundy, plums, and green. this will work for every dress color. oh yeah here is the link….
*real simple: supermarket wedding flowers
I think the ideas are very cute and an excellent idea. I agree with the pumpkins and gourdes because I was not thinking about the fact that the colors would clash with the rest of the colors I picked.
So do all of those colors work or should I mix up the dark colors of the girls dresses and make some dark and some light? As in the peacock colors, champagne, lilac, and burgandy?
I very much like the idea about the peacock feather on the center of the plates and I can get those feathers quite easily so that works out great! I am very fond of the idea about candles in the middle of the table but I really love these little square red votive candle holders I found.
The bouquets seem to be what I am really stuck on because I just love flowers, tulips really but they will be too expensive then. I like hydrangeas because they come in the colors I have chosen; blue/green, and purple/cream. I also like mums and are easily grown but I don’t know how to incorporate the berries into the flowers. I suppose a little diy help might show me how to do that though. Any suggestions for additional flowers to add, I will keep looking through galleries and galleries of photos. :)
I really appreciate both of your help and suggestions. I like the ideas very much and will look at how to put them into the theme.
if you really wanted to use pumpkins you could always spray paint them. I saw a wedding on tv where the couple had done this bcz their colors were dark, so they painted the pumpkins black and a dark coppery color. It looked awesome.
jessey,
i would talk to my florist in my area and find out what is available in my area. you can have tulips just keep a “few” among the flowers. to keep cost down you can have them!! anything draping will be what you will need especially the ivy, grapes, anything grecian looking. look at the board i posted. burgundy is universally flattering color, you can adjust this to a burgundy wine or a burgundy red. the colors you have chosen will be beautiful too. i just think the all burgundy dresses or champagne dresses would make it pop and the chamapgne would add the midas touch tothe theme which is important in a grecian fall wedding.
Has anyone thought of sunflower’s? They come in many colors, not just yellow.
Luck to you all Lyn
I am having a late October wedding in Ohio and would like to toss leaves instead of birdseed as we leave the church. My flower girls will be dropping silk leaves instead of flower pedals in the church, but I’d like to use real leaves for the exit for easy clean up.
Do you think it would be appropriate if I just collected leaves in the weeks leading up to the wedding? I was thinking we could have large baskets of leaves by the exits. Would natural leaves be to messy? Should I do something to dry out or clean the leaves?
Having worked with collecting leaves to press last fall for our wedding this November, I highly suggest collecting them and placing them in newspaper to dry. Make sure it is after a few days or a week without rain. Any moisture is removed, and hopefully most dirt will be easy to wipe away. If you aren’t prepared for this, there are people who do all of the work and sell the leaves. Some are on EBay, others can be found by doing a websearch. : )
Thanks Jennifer! :)
Hi, I am having an October wedding and looking for nice silk gerbera daisy flowers, cant seem to find any really nice ones. I am looking for deep reds, dark oranges and maybe yellow, any help would be appreciated!
Hi,
I was at ACMoore yesterday and saw a slew of autumnal colored silk gerbera daisies. I didn’t feel them, but they looked nice. Check there…
Jennifer
I fell in love with a centerpiece that incorporates an orchid in water with a floating candle. Our wedding is in October and I didn’t think about the season of the flower. Would it look bad if I used silk orchids along with real flowers for the bouquets? Can you recommend some bouquets for a fall bouquet?
brandi, google seach seasonal guide to wedding flowers.
there are many flowers in the fall season, however, i would check the availability and type of fall flowers in my area. no mixing the silk orchids will be beautiful. but dont put a silk orchid floating in water. colors can bleed into the water adn water can make silk flowers limp. so use real for this. i am a huge fan of orchids!! youhave picked a beautiful flower. i would mix them with simple roses or hydrangea. cause these 2 flowers are year round. this bouquet is not orchids but the bride wanted dogwood and it was out of season, therefore, using silk. the results? gorgeous!
*Rebecca and Mark in Napa, CA
Tip: look for higher quality silk orchids like at hobby lobby which look beautiful at a low cost. there are some high quality flowers equal to or more expensive than real flowers so be careful when comparing prices.
I can’t decide on a color pallet for fall! I love them all too much! My favorite color is blue, I’d love to use dark blue but I’m having a hard time deciding. Help Please!!!
amanda, are you wanting any fall colors? dark blue would work. are youwanting a rustic look? elegant look? fall theme? let me know what your wedding style is and i will find ideas right away!! there are many fall colors that compliment dark blue.
I am also interested in a Fall “blue” wedding. I am thinking sapphire or some other jewel tone dark blue for bridesmaids. I think it will be an outdoor wedding in Sept or Oct. Not sure of the exact style yet. Could the bride wear ivory or should it be a white gown? Not sure what colors of flowers would be good: Maybe the pinks, lavender? Any ideas for flowers, tablescapes would be appreciated. Thankyou.
aggie,
i would pick the right shade of white for my skintone. try them both on and see, not everyone looks great in solid white. i made you a board and i think that a few more berries and a touch more blue should be added to the brides bouquet. i hope you like it. i thought that the guys were left best in classic black. it just compliments sapphire so well.
aggie,
i meant more berries/blue to the bm bouquet. oh yes! if you cant get the blue glassware as shown on table, then try blue favor boxes or bags, just anything to pull the blue in. and keep the centerpieces with mostly creams but add a touch of blues, berries and a pale peach/orange that is in your bouquet. if youwant more fall just add faux acorns on stems etc. if you do wnat to add fall leaves pick the ones that are more on the mauve side in color or solid. i wouldnt want to many colors going on. it might clash.
I like that idea to incorporate the berries, acorns etc. I guess for Fall it would be better to stick with darker pinks, mauve, rather than the lighter shades of pink in the BM’s bouquets? I guess the color blue of the dresses will determine which accent colors to go with. Thankyou.
I also like the possible use of grapes or apples sitting around. Would either of those work, or maybe white pumpkins? The more I think, the more I am confused.
My daughter was married September 28 two years ago. It was to be a December wedding with everything blue and snow. Her bridesmaid wore sap. blue and carried sunflowers, gerber daisy. and mums with acorn, nuts, and berries and autumn leaves mixed in. It was beautiful! The wedding was outside at the grooms brothers horse ranch. The chairs had white covers and sap. ribbons tied around them. My youngest daughter dropped red rose petal and fall leaves. The reception was in the barn (with the chairs) and the tables were decorated with white table cloths, leaves, min. scarecrows, pumpkins, berries, nuts & cinnamon scented candles (it was a real barn with real horses!) with the sap. ribbon down the center of the tables. The only bad thing is that in Ga. the weather in Sept. isn’t always great. The weekend before was a comfy 65, At the wedding it was 93!! Have fun and congrats!
Nonna
That sounds so pretty! I don’t think my daughter wants pumpkins, although she could use white ones, rather than orange. She likes the various shades of pinks with some blue or purple in the bouquets; whatever looks good with the blue dresses. I think she might consider some berries or other Fall items to go with mums, roses and maybe hydrangeas. Weather here will be for grabs too. It could be very warm, cold, rainy or even snow. It will be a surprise, I am sure. Thankyou for the info!
nonna,
would you be able to post some pics? sounds beautiful!
I’m getting married Sept 2010 in Chicago and my colors are espresso brown and sage. for my bouquet i want to incorporate my mothers and my fiance’s mothers fav flower into it. My mom’s fav flowers are lilacs. would that go with my wedding colors?
melanie, absolutely!! brown, green( any shade) and lilac works well anytime!! youmay have trouble finding lilac during sept. though. i am not familiar with what is available ask a florist waht you can do. remember lilacs also come in white. i wasn’t sure if it was the lilac flower or the color and the flower that was significant. i would not add lilac or your future mil’s flower toanything else because this flower should stand out not blend in. and it should be close to you and the bouquet is the perfect place!! everyone will see a lilac ( an dother flower) incorporated into your bouquet and know it must be special because that is the only place it appears. so go for it!! it will be gorgeous!! here is alink just toshow how well it looks together! it is breathtaking!!

I’m getting married Oct ‘09 and I’m having a hard time with my colour scheme. I want to stick with fall colours, green and brown but my sister-in-law wants me to do sapphire blue and brown, which looks really nice amd my flowers are gerber daisies, so i dont know what colours to use
rosanna, i would choose what i loved and thank everyone for their advice,( your sister inlaw is right is is beautiful) but stick with what i loved,( i personally love the green and brown better, plus blue may distract from the natural elegance of brown/green( these 2 colors are elegant enough to stand on their own and with tons of white, cream or champagne gerberas wow!!) actually champagne could give this color scheme a beautiful twist!!
*Green & Champagne Wedding
your instinct showed you what you already love, you may regret it if you dont stick with what you know youlove!! however, if you wanted to add touches of blue to the mix, why not in subtle touches, like a blue ringbearer pillow, the favors, have bm wear gorgeous green and blue rhinestone necklaces or add rhinestone initials(blue and green) onto their bouquet? you could have your new last name inital in yours in clear rhinestones? the key is to keep it falliash and not waterfront and with gerbera daisies it can if you arent careful. so adding fall greenery would be ideal. i love what they did here….
*Bethany & Gary in Catawba Island, OH ( just very subtle blues)
*Carrie & Ken in Washingtonville, NY ( perfect example of adding only a touch of blue)
*Jennifer & Matt in Ann Arbor, MIalso google image green and brown wedding
brides, check this pic i found by random. apples on sticks with fall leaf branches. how great is that!! could almost be a free centerpiece, if you live where this is available.
I love this idea. Maybe candied apples in a large basket for favors, surrounded by the leaves, acorns, etc.
Hello! I am getting married in October 09′ and having a very hard time trying to figure a color scheme/flowers. I live in upstate New York and of course it’s the perfect time to get married because of the foliage. I’ve gone back and forth with the chocolate and pink look. Then thought burgundy and black would look nice, too! Any suggestions you might have on color as well as flowers that would look good to go with this would be a huge help! Thanks in advance!
Jen, I too love October which means i got married then too.. last year also in New York and yes the foliage was amazing i have alot of really nice pictures. Any who, my girls wore brown and my dress had a brown sash in it… i used alot of colors for accent my mainly peach. See i love peach roses and wanted them so bad.. So my bouquet was peach roses and ivory gerber daises with some other colors and the girls used peachish pink gerber daises… I attached a pic or two check em out, what do you think..hope it helps a little
jen,
you said brown and pink, i pulled these pics cause they just remind me of a fall day, it has the pink( since some fall leaves have a pinkish tone)with a fall twist. i just think its captivating.with fall leaves added to the mix and more berries to the bouquets and florals. actually you could skip floral centerpieces and just have fall berries.
jen here is the rest.
Where did you get the picture of that dress? It is beautiful and would work well with my theme? Feel free to emaill me nocturnalvampirekittie@yahoo.com
I think if you use the colors that will be surrounding you, the warm reds, oranges, and browns, your pictures would be gorgeous because it will all go together. We were married in a vineyard and my colors were celadon green and fuschia, and in my pictures the vineyards made my colors stand out even more, and everything matched. My brother in law is getting married here in Ca in Oct 09 and their color palatte is plum, warm orange, and chocolate brown.
Okay I’m having a August wedding. Is that too soon for a fall theme? And I want orange and red flowers that leave that fall feel. Have any ideas?! I want to keep everything cheap and easy. I’ll probly be doing a lot of it myself.
kayla s,
no its not to soon, its an in between month so you will be okay!! sure dahlias or chysanthemums( preferably this one and they will be in season!) will give that fall feel. every year i go to walmart just to see the mums, lined up in an array of colors! so inexpensive! just gorgeous! another idea would be using natural items in your decor. pinecones, fall leaves, grapevine, acorns, etc. see waht you can gather for free and arrange it in beautiful containers. use apples and other fruit for penny pinching decor ideas. dont 4get to have caramel apples for favors! enlist the aid of your family and friends to throw these together. for other decor think large containers filled with branches, also a penny pincher. for other ideas google image: fall wedding centerpiece, fall wedding board, fall wedding bouquet, etc. also google search fall wedding on a tight budget.

And this centerpiece is gorgeous. But its just going to be a regular church wedding with the reception in a fellowship hall so I dont think the candles will work.

angie, i didnt know if your wedding was rustic or not. So i found a few pics that stood out to me, actually they would fit either way. you coulld even consider a range of oranges, or a bouquet of tangerine colored roses with fall foilage, green/white bouquets look amazing, a bouquet of simple calla’s in white or champagne, a range of deep citrus tones would work, and red looks good too. look at the flowers here absolutely stunning!!

Help!! I am having an early September wedding in Chicago. My bridemaids are wearing fer (dark olive). I need some suggestions for flowers and colors. We are having a budget wedding, but I really want fresh flowers. (no carnations)
dana,
white and pale yellow would look beautiful against this color. if your on a budget, though, check out the prices of roses. They come in bulk and are usually pretty reasonable, as are daisies, dahlias, mums. ask your florist what is in season in your area at a great price. also, tons of greenery for your decor and white flowers look so beautiful against this too. its simple. you can stick with 1 type of flower, which colin cowie recommends when on a budget, use it everywhere. google image orange weding bouquet….green wedding bouquet…..olive green wedding….olive green wedding board…pale yellow bouquet. also you can pair the color you like against the flower you like and google image it in a bouquet. i wanted to give you lots of visuals so you could see what you love!! mums are more rustic but oh so beautiful!! also check out realsimple.com under celebratons/weddings. there is alot of ideas here. good luck!!
dana, ran across this, its sage instead of olive but you could put lighter green next to the dark olive and it would look sooo beautiful. it gives the illusion of more color too because of the contrast/depth.
I’m looking for colors of navy, purple, lime. Do you know of any photos of flowers or reception photos in these colors?
kayla, here are some pics!
I’m gettin married November 7th & am goin crazy over pickin my colors. Originally I wanted brown & green and thought that those would be good colors, but then I felt thst it was too dull & wanted to throw some life in there. So then I was thinkin I could add some pink. Not sure what color pink, but I was thinkin the bridesmaids dresses could be like a sage green with brown accessories, and then have the bouquets have more pink in them. Not too sure what I want, but I’m having my wedding outside in a garden theme. Let me know what yall think! I’d love some feedback!

you could go with a mixed bouquet of fall shades. if you go with pink go with a light to medium berry shade. the color i would choose for the pop of color is a shade of purple. it looks wonderful agaisnt sage and is perfect for this time of year and for an outdoor ceremony.
Hey! I am getting married in Oct. 2009. I live in the south and was excited about using the deep fall colors. However, I am stuck on “black and white.” Is is tacky to add in dark pink or another accent color in October? Am I completely breaking the rules if I have a black and white wedding in the fall and completely leave out the traditional fall colors of plum, orange, amber, etc.? any tips on how I can do black and white in the fall would help!!! thanks
celeste, no you are not breaking the rules, i think a bride should use whatever she loves. i think a dark pink would be beautiful! but you can add fall florals if you want unless you are trying to steer from the traditional colors. i would stick with the colors you have chosen and posting some bouquets i think would suit the fall so well!! this is my absolute fave of all the pics i am posting. i chose to post it by itself for that reason!! my gosh it is jawdropping!
celeste, here are some others….
Celeste,
I am getting married in october 2010, and i am also doing black and white mixed in with the beauty of the season. I was having a hard time figuring out how everything was going to look together but im getting there. I found the beautiful rustic red sunflowers that go really well with fall and black & white. and we are going to be using white pumpkins. we are also going to be using some darker colored autumn leaves in the girls bouquets. Just a few ideas of how to mix the two together. GOOD LUCK!
I am getting married outside, in September. We are trying to keep it simple. My BMs are wearing black…I know I want green and ivory hydrangeas…but, I have decided that I need a spash of color that I am only going to use in my flowers…bouquets and flower balls on shepherds hooks. Any ideas on what color and what flowers I should use to achieve this. I’m kinda leaning towards pink…but I don’t want it to look to springy/summery. Any comments or pictures would be helpful!! Thanks!
libby, keep to the hydrangeas for it all, ( unless you want another flower, use orchid or rose) they would be perfect for the flower balls. i was thinking blue would be beautiful. though i love just the green and white, you could just add color with ribbon hanging from the shepherd hooks, and the bouquets. check out all green wedding details at theknot.com under wedding photos and enjoy!! oh yeah!! for a splash of color you dont even have to worry about xtra flowers just add faux berries( most will stain ask your florist for tips) example…. this is just breathtaking!

Hi there libby, I also am doing a harest wedding. A good color to stand out against the black that is in the pink/red family, would be to go with burgundy or fushia colors. That way you can pick whatever flowers you want that will work on your hooks, and you can pick the colors of those flowers that will accent it off very nicely next to the black, but without overdoing it.
I am getting married in November 09…I am theming my wedding as sort of a hippy/Jimmy Buffett style with Crimson Tide mixed in. I already have two children and we’re getting married in our front yard. Is a fall reddish…nearly faded crimson color appropriate for ME to wear? I’ve gotten some looks, but I just love this dress! It is made in USA, out of softened hemp. I think it is perfect for an old style traditional hippy wedding. What do you think?
Callie in Florida

I’m getting married next November and of course I want a fall inspired wedding…but..i live in Texas where we don’t really have a fall season. Since I can’t do maple leaves am I stuck with hay? I’m just stuck on what I can do with out looking like I have wishful thinking. Or is that ok too?
manda. hi i am from louisiana. it may not feel much like fall in the southern states but the leaves still change colors!!!
yes you can choose hardwood leaves, this will save you so much money to cut them yourself, branches the whole 9 yards!! give everyone something to dream about. as a matter of fact, go with the leaf as a wedding theme! it will tie everything in. you can put girls in a shade of your choice! cranberry, burnt orange, brown, gold or green. sky is the limit! if you dont want to choose the leaves for color then choose the flowers that represent those maple leaves. tie in a few leaves in the bouquet.google image fall wedding decor (lots of ideas) and google image fall wedding bouquet. hope all this helps!!

Hi everyone. I am getting married in November 08 and my colors are apple and truffle. I have looked at a lot of different flowers but i am still unsure of what I want. Very flower illiterate..lol. I was thinking of reds, browns, yellows and oranges just to add a punch of colors. Does that sound to busy? Also, I am not sure what type of flowers are available in NY that time of year. Any suggestions?
Hi Kristina, check out the red and green bouquet at Katie Elfers Inspiration. i know you were scared at first but its not christmas at all, just choose brown ribbon instead of green. google image red and brown weddings it has lots of pics. but the green is what i would choose it will make it look fresh. and dont be afraid to add fall berries in the mix. so it wont be to cluttered. i am giving you a more ny style wedding that is fresh. i personally love it and think red and brown with the green is enuf!! with the berries of course. think bittersweet or hypericum berries. talk to your florist, i am from the south. so i a m not sure about seasonal flowers. i would think tulips, dahlias, and roses would work. i would go with roses just like that bouquet.
Im getting married in October of 09. My colors are Aubergine Purple and Bronze. The bridesmaids are wearing purple. Blake, do you have any flower ideas and simple but very tasteful reception decor ideas?? The wedding is going to be at a vinyard so I would like to tie in some sort of theme to go along with it. Berrries or copper wire? Oh the stress!!!!
i forgot to put your name michelle! oops!! hope ya like it!!

Then, google image vineyard wedding (for lots of ideas) vineyard wedding centerpieces, then vineyard wedding inspiration board (all these sites have lots of ideas) and in a vineyard your theme should be none other than grapes. your simple centerpiece should be urns filled with grapes. google image grape wedding cake.
you can get these fake grapes everywhere even add them to your bouquet. also grape motif on your invites etc. See pic attached. your wedding is gonna be BEA-U-TIFUL!!!!
HELP! im getting married next fall, and i cant figure out a colors!
Hi Kara,
I’m getting married in November ‘09 and of course its a fall theme and the colors I’ve chosen stay in the fall foliage family which are bronze and burnt orange. Because I want a dark bronze the only colors I see that are similar to what I’m looking for are in the chocolate family which are the colors of my bridesmaid dresses with burnt orange sashes.
Hope this helps!
heh, kara, give me some more details on what type wedding your after. fall has so many choices!!
Hi, My sister in law is getting married in November, we are wearing Burungdy dresses, What color or kind of flower should we carry? and What color and kind should she carry??
renee, dahlias or mums are a great choice in the fall and easy on the pocketbook!! google image fall wedding bouquet for lots of ideas. the roses are also beautiful combined with leaves and berries. i personlly like the mix of fall flowers against burgundy. it will be elegant, simple, and stand out.!!
Help! I am getting married in October and my bms are wearing espresso brown satin dresses with a toffee coloured sash. What on earth would a good colour be for their shoes???? Any ideas girls?
yeah they can wear brown or a satin beige or champagne. i think classic would be best here. are they short or long gowns? strappy shoes for a short dress or mid heel sling backs, closed toe. long dresses can wear from low to a higher heel. but for comfort keep the heels at a rasonable height otherwise those feet are gonna be aching!!!
im thinking about having brown and a lighter blue as my wedding colors but dont know what flowers i should have….any ideas?
Hi,
We’re getting married next Fall (11/7/09) and I am in the full swing of planning.
I saw a bouquet awhile back of white/cream roses in a tight round bouquet, framed by what I think are japanese maple leaves. (It isn’t a cascade bouquet.) I can’t find it anywhere online! Has anyone seen anything like this?
Thanks!
Jennifer
jennifer, not sure if any of the pics i found are it but google image cream wedding bouquet, then white wedding bouquet, then white/cream wedding bouquet/ then handtied white wedding bouquet(i saw a few pics here) nothing particular. i hope all these sites help!!
Hey there!
I am getting married in Sept. & My Maids are wearing black. Does anyone have any suggestions on flowers? I was thinking that anything fall related will coordinate…Do I stand corrected?
Lis
This is for Lis-
Yes, i agree with you that any fall color would look great because it is black drfess, and using fall colors like deep red, Deep orange and yellow will also brigten them up.. Just a thought… It seems to be working out good for me, and im using Brown…
Hope this helps some of you the flowers used are mainly sunflowers.. The wedding was in sept. and as you can see the dresses are colorful as well.
If you would like to see more sunflower pictures I have many. Good luck
Lyn
okay i am getting married in the fall October to be exact- and i am having a major probelm with colors- i just can’t seem to decide on them! i want to use fall colors but dont know the best ones to use- we are also going to get married in Vegas- so basically i am going to just have the reception to decorate for but I want it to be eligant and beautiful as if my wedding was in the church upstairs- I know for sure i want to use a deep red please help!
HI Sarah, there are lots of routes you can go! Just a few:
crisp red and white … this is very elegant, pretty formal look. Lots of white: e.g. white redding gown with crimson sash, white linens with red chair sashes, red and white roses, maybe some centerpieces like white votive candles in fishbowls filled with deep red cranberries. Add some silver and you have a royal, striking look. See the top Winter part of this article for a red/white look that would work just as well for fall.
Or, there’s the rustic/new england fall type of look with lots of chocolate brown, creams, bronze, touches of orange or yellow. You can play with red by adding deep burgundies to the palette. Then add some rustic decorations like birch bark candles or votive holders, small gourds, faux woodgrain menus, curly willow centerpieces, silk autumn leaves, bird nests, acorn boutonnieres, that sort of thing. This type gives you a lot of leeway with colors because almost everything looks good with chocolate brown, including your red.
HTH!
Hello all, I am a bridesmaid in a wedding for november. The bride has chosen watermelon pink wedding gowns and bright pink gerber daisies. I am not very fond of the color combination. She had originally chosen chocolate brown gowns for the pink flowers. this would have been beautiful, especially for the fall. should I say something before I buy this pink dress! THanks for the input!
Gerber daisies are a very pretty flower they don’t die easy and they come in all sorts of colors, i know alot of people that used them for fall, and summer and loved them equal…
I am having a fall wedding and my girls are wearing red…what type of flowers are good for fall and that keep with all the fall colors
Can anyone tell me what the flowers are in the picture
Hi Lisa, see SamanthaK’s comment below, also you can print out that photo and take it your florist for confirmation!
Did you ever find out what kind of flowers are in this boquet? I love them! very pretty!!
nicole, bells of ireland, roses, spider lilies, and from what i can tell deep purple magnolias (?) but i cant tell from the pic.
Hi Blake my name is Carol I’m getting married in sept 09 and have decided on a fall theme I was on this site before and found a pic of a centerpiece w a brown pillar candle and a hurricane vase,a lady had made it for her wedding and sent it in as an idea do you know where I’d find it ? thanx

hi, this is getting repetetive on the board but im getting married october of this year. I NEED SOME MAJOR HELP WITH COLORS! it will be a church wedding (still looking for one) but i picked out that color in the picture for my bridesmaids and the overall color for the wedding..i need help for accent colors besides ivory! i was going to pick a black sash for them to wear but definitely changed my mind. it is such a dark teal…i have never seen it anywhere else..
This is for mollie: I think that a could accent color might be like a brownish color… Just a thought..
Hi Mollie!
I see that gorgeous color and I think of the peacock hues that are winding through events right now, partly due to the east Asian influence in weddings, partly due to that mysterious love of purples and smoky colors from fashion collections last fall.
Take a look at this peacock mood board and see if it doesn’t give you some ideas at:
http://www.wedsmack.com/2007/06/peacock-blue-mood-board.html
In my mind that color in your gowns looks magnificent with combinations like red and gold, copper and amethyst, teal green and aqua. Great colors for fall, too — very regal. Take a look and see what you think! For flowers I see some sultry combination of orchids (green and creamy white) punctuated with dark fiddlehead ferns.
A friend of mine is getting married in August 2008. She is wanting to use champagne and latte. We are trying to think of flowers and ideas for the tables. Her and her husband to be love books. They met in a bookstore. any ideas email me at smilli1977@hotmail.com
I’m getting married in November 1, 2008…. My colors are Chocolate Brown & Champagne…. What colors should the flowers for the be??
November Wedding-
I and my Fiancee are getting married in October and our colors are Truffle (brown) and Ivory.. so similar to yours. As for my flowers i am using peach roses and White gerber Dasies for me, but my girl are using fall shades of gerber dasies..Deep red, Orange and peach.. Just a suggestion, but i would go with peaches and oranges and a deeper red, - it really does look nice with the brown…
Becky
To the Nov 1st Wedding person.. I think your flowers should be mangos, and yellows etc.. but your bms should have an ivory as well as the groomsmen, because of the choc. brown and the champaign. You could have your groom in an orangy boutenierre tho too! I think the oranges would really brighten it up, and give it that special, fall, splash of colour!
I am getting married in October 2008 on sweetest day. I love the tea rose color and it will be in my wedding dress. I have given the bridesmaid the option of length and style of dress and would like for them to stay in the pink family. I am just looking for ideas for flowers. My original thought was varies pinks and white flowers. Looking for ideas and pictures. Thanks in advance : )

I’m getting married Sept. 08. I’m just starting to plan our wedding. My favorite color is yellow and the typical fall colors, but I don’t want it to look like thanksgiving. I’m trying to decide between a real brillant red w/ brown or yellow and brown.
Suggestions?
All my bridesmaid dresses are black strapless ones. I’m getting married in the fall. What colors do you recommend?
Melissa,
Thats the first time i heard of some one using black for fall.. but a nice accent color would be like a burgundy color.. as for even like flowers because there is a nice shade of gerber daisy that color.. My girls are using peah and orange gerber daisies with the brown and the burgundy with the black would be nice..
Check out this picture it might help? Let me know hope i could help
i am thinking about getting married this coming october but wondering if the colors of a sage bridemaids dresses and pink tulips are acceptable for the season??
Im getting married in October as well.. I think those color would be ok, its your wedding.. Be different..
Im using truffle ( brown) and peach..
Im planning in getting married in september but i really love roses and daisies. would like to know if its a bad choice or what would be a better choice
I was planning on having lavender and silver as my colors. The theme was going to be sort of country/western. And I wanted daisy type flowers. I was planning a spring wedding, but was wondering if these types of ideas would work in the fall or be better in the spring?? Please give me your input. Email me gwarthen@hotmail.com
Thanks
Hello! I am getting married mid-September and am still trying to decide on colors. It technically is not fall yet, and still summer like weather here in the midwest, so I don’t want to go with orange and brown, but am thinking maybe a marine blue or deep purple/grape? Any suggestions on what flowers to do? I am not the best at this! I was thinking maybe a cream color to go with the blue or purple?

I am planning my brother’s wedding. They’ve choosen sapphire blue and chocolate brown with a possible light blue accent color. They’ve really left it up to me. Any suggestions of flowers or has anyone been to a fall wedding with these colors??
Can you tell me what all flowers are in this?
Holley, I’m no expert, but you’ll have to make do with me until one comes along
In that bouquet I see Leucadendron (dark burgundy), pincushion proteas (coral), flame mini-calla lilies, orange roses (”Circus”?), red tipped hypericum berries, a few twigs, and what looks to me like Bells of Ireland. There’s another orange flower in there, but not sure what it is … maybe someone knows …
hope that helps!
Hello. Does anyone know a flower that will go with wine
color wedding (bridesmaids dress color)? I’m getting married on Jan 3,2009 & really prefer not xmas flowers.
Thank you for any help & God Bless in 2008!
Heather, check out winter wedding flowers … a modern look for that time of year is a dense hand-tied bouquet of white roses punctuated with dark burgundy or ‘black magic’ roses, which I think looks gorgeous.
Of course you can also use do this high-contrast look with casablanca lilies, tulips, mini-callas for starters … lots of options.
Please help!
Does anyone know of any kind of champaign, sandy coloured flowers (aka cashmere coloured, to venus bridal) that I could use for boutonnieres. I am having chocolate brown dresses with cashmere coloured sashes, and black tuxes with chocolate brown vests. I was going to use the boutinnieres flower to match the random >cashmere
I am geting married on September 12, 2009, Iam using the colors dark blue, merlot and eggplant, i would like to use gerbera daisies, most likely fake, any centerpiece ideas? the wedding and the reception are outdoors in our yard.
I love the bouquet you have with the bride above. I am getting married in October 09. Can you give me any ideas for pew bouquets and for center pieces for the reception? I am having a black and white wedding but want my flowers to be the focal point being arranged in fall colors.

In that picture of the brides bouquet, what is that beautiful dark burgundy flower!!!!!!!!!! I need to know!!!
Hi Kelsie, that awesome-looking flower is Leucadendron. You can see it on the winter wedding flowers page, here.
Hi I am getting married October 18, 2008. I am too trying to create a fall themed wedding. So far I have decided to print my own invitations that have fall colors leaves with the information printed on vellum paper with a gold ribbon to tie the two pieces together. Actually I am going dress shopping today. I am so excited. I want red roses and mango calla lilies for my bouquet. For my centerpieces very simply, candles and silk rose petals in fall colors and silk leaves. My colors are red, shimmering ivory, however i would like to incorporate a brown if i could, I was thinking of the tablecloths but i am afraid it wont look right. Any suggestions of what color linens I should use. I done want use too much red.

Hi,
I am getting married Aug 2008 does anyone have any ideas?
Carmen, to me they look like Calycanthus (Carolina Allspice). They’re gorgeous. Anyone else?
What is the name of the burgundy flower in the arrangement the girl is holding in the picture above?
Hi all you girls!
I’ve just got engaged and it’s very exiciting to read all of your messages - congratulations to all of us!!
We’re getting married next October 8th on a tiny island off the coast of north devon. We’re going for a rustic/romantic theme with autumn cornicopia basket bouquets. I’m having a white taffata dress in the style of romantic heroine with fawn coloured bridesmaid dresses. Have no idea about anything else yet, but I’m sorted!!
Hi Gail:
I think mums are totally doable and your daughter’s flowers will be gorgeous. Here are a few pics of mums in bouquets. Mini-mums are probably what you see most today, especially the “Kermit” button mums, the small, dense and bright flowers that show up in a lot of contemporary style bouquets (attached). These aren’t the kind you normally find at the farmer’s market, though.
Garden mums are maybe not as common in bouquets, but just as lovely. As you know, they can vary a lot in color and how they look. Some are more gerber daisy/wildflower looking and some look more finished, like dahlias. I attached a pic of some mums in bouquets with hypericum berries, lilies, sweetheart roses and gerbers. They have a country/casual feel … I think they’re lovely. Hopefully this helps a bit.
My daughter is planning a Fall wedding in 2009 and her groom and his mother are very fond of Mums and would like them integrated into the florals she picks. I realize there are different kinds of Mums and would like some feedback and is this doable? Thanks for any help. Gailanne
Robyn-
No I have yet to try on a dress but I am going to try to find a cream or champange color!! I have found my center pieces they are like a hurricane glass vase that is brown and sort of see through. Then around them I have a berry/stick wreath. Do you have a Michaels near you at all?? If you do you should look there because I know there stuff is going on sale. Also now would be the best time to look for you center pieces because fall/autumn stuff is going on clearance.
Another thing that we are doing is.. since we dont have a normal flower girl we are having our ring boy carry our rings on this big leaf and our rings sit nicely in the center!!! I know these ideas are not for everyone but who knows ::P
I look forward to hearing more of your ideas
melissa
Have you thought about using hydrangeas? They are very soft and pretty. I couldnt get the color i wanted but the florist spayed them for me. I was there when she was testing it - so easy to do it yourself. Hydrangeas would be very easy to tie up yourself. Also for the boutonnieres, silk works the best - trying hugging people all day with a flower on your chest.
OR since you are getting married in spring - tulips! You can even buy them at a grocery store and are very beautiful. Here are some pictures to help.
Hey Michelle!
Oooo the leaf idea sounds very cool. Thats great, I would never of thought of that. Also, I saw dresses in a burnt orange colour recently and they look wonderful for fall. I tried to get my man to wear the chocolate brown tux, but according to him he gets one say, and thats the tux.. haha it must be black
haha
I have gotten a lot done too surprisingly. However its more like the location, & church, colours, and apparel. I have yet to try on a white dress. Have you?? But really when it comes to center peices, and those little details- I haven’t a clue. The flowers are what I am most concerned about right now. There are just so many great fall looking flowers to choose from. I will take a look at center peices though, and see if I can find what you are looking for, and also for myself. So I take it candles are most popular then.
Robyn-
Hey I havent decided on my girls dress color yet we are going to look in October. We are going with a chocolate brown tux from Calvin Klein- my guy is really excited about the color. I am thinking like a orange/red color for my girls something like maybe a burnt red or orange. I have gotten so much done already!! I have my center pieces almost done but I am looking for candles for them I am looking for a medium sized uncented candle but all that I have seen is $4 a piece do you have any ideas? Another idea that we are doing which you may like is instread of flower petals my flower girl is a “Leaf Girl” we bought a ton of fake leafs from Michaels ( a craft store) and we are having her drop those!! Well let me know what you think!!
I HAVE AN APRIL 2008 WEDDING AND WE ARE DOING APPLE RED. I WANTED TO DO MY OWN BOUQUETS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR COLORS? I DON’T WANT TO DO ALL ROSES. NOT A FAN.HELP!
Hey Lisa,
Sorry I didn’t see your tip before. I think the champaign colour would look georgous! I think for the flowers, I might go a dark coral instead now, with ivory roses as well. I have yet to look at any colours and flowers together though, other then the internet. Thanks for all your suggestions
Michelle- Thats awesome that we have the exact same wedding date! What colour have you decided for the girls dresses. I am definitely going with the chocolate brown, satin. I have also seen pictures recently of the black tux with the chocolate brown vests for the guys, and it looks GREAT! I went to a bridal showcase last weekend, and they had it on display. It looks very modern, and sophisticated. You could however, if leaning that way as well, go with a lighter brown (champaigne, caramel, or expresso for the vests) looks very nice as well. Another option for flowers could be some type of lily- long stemmed looks for good. Well give me some of your ideas for what you want, and we could swop, and mix ideas. CONGRATS :P\
Hey guys, I have a question, I really want to have my colors hot pink and orange and I really want a fall wedding too, could those colors work at all???
Thanks
Hey,
I am having a wedding October of 2008. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Robyn —
Hey my wedding date is the same as yours!! Maybe we could swap some ideas!!
Brandy,
I am getting married October13, 2007 (coming up quickly!) We come from a line of many different religions, so to honor everyone, we basically wrote our own ceremony and it includes a handfasting, broom jumping and a Christian reading. My advise would be to look through Native American ceremonies and just incorporate your favorite into your ceremony.
Also, my girls’ dresses are dark brown, I did my juniors in a “latte” color and did the guys vests the same lighter brown … I coordinated and didn’t match exactly. The more I get into this process the more I have learned there is no “right or wrong”, it is your wedding and you should have it the way you want it!
Good luck all!
Hey girls!! Congrats to you all!!!!:? I am having an October fall wedding next year and I want it to have a country theme..Very simple yet unique and countryish…I was thinking mason jars with some sort of flowers in them with tealight candles everywhere..My color is an apple red for my girls..Any suggestions for decorations, centerpeices, favors, etc???
Thanks Blake@FavorIdeas! I have never been able to picture it, but yes now that I saw the pics, it looks very good. I will be going with that for sure now. Thanks again
Robyn, see this post on brown vests & black tuxes and see what you think. Personally, I think they look great!
Help! My Man Won’t Marry in Brown
If you are going to do blue and silver flowers you might want to think of using Bella Donna which is blue. Comes in light blue and bright blue. Good Luck!
Hi Robyn
I’m getting married 10/6/07 and have a fall theme. My girls are wearing chocolate dresses and the guys are wearing a black tux and truffle/champagn vest. They look very nice together. Our flowers will consist of rusty burnt orange and ivory roses along with hypericum berries, curly willow and antique hydrangeas for our flowers. The guys will wear hypericum berries. It looks really great and I’m so excited!
Hi there,
I am having my wedding on October 11th 2008
I was hoping to do dark brown dresses for my girls, but am wondering if the boys have dark brown vests with black tuxes, that might look horrible! Any ideas on that? Also I was hoping to have the flowers a dark coral, or maroon colour- unsure what would look the best. Some suggestions??
Thanks
My wedding is Oct 28, ‘08 my original colors were burg. and choc. brown… my husband to be’s only request has been to change the colors to blue and silver. any ideas about flowers in blue for that time of year?
I am getting married in Nov 2007 with an Irish theme. My dress is a very plain ivory dress the only detail is a green band in the waist my girls are in the same green. I have to watch out for busy style flowers due to my 2 JR’s are wearing Irish Dance Dresses. I wanted to keep with the greens using a lot of Bells of Ireland but what else could I mix with it for this season? We are doing the arangments ourself.:-?
My wedding is in October and I want my bridesmaids to hold long stemmed flowers. My colors are red and champagne. I’m not very creative so any suggestions would be great! I like lilies but I think they are out of season. Any ideas?
carlye- I am also having a Fall beach wedding but on the river in Virginia. Fall and Beach seem to be oxymorions in the wedding world. Some things that I have come up with were blue and brown, pine cones, apples, pears because I don’t think that the traditional fall colors will work well with the river background.
As far as dress, I think simple, less beading and no train would go best with a beach theme, regardless of the season. The weather chanel says that it will be between 50-68 in October for VA which is not too cold for most dress styles.
Anyone else have ideas???
what should I wear for an autumn, beach wedding in the N.C. outter banks?
My wedding is September 22,07.I’m wanting to do the bright orange and
pink for my colors but I’m afraid that’s it’s going to be to loud for a
wedding in September. Can I still do orange and pink for more
fall colors???

Also my husband to be is native american and he wants to intertwine the cherokee and traditional cermony do you have any info or suggestions help…….
i am also getting married sept 17/07 i diffinitly want fall colours in my flowers. but my main consern is that my colours r burindy, silver and white i was just wondering what kind of flower colours would go best with those colours.
I’m also getting married in Sept of ‘07. I have very little time left to decied what I want, however I really don’t want to have the chocolate, orange, peach, or yellow colors in my wedding and I am not good with flower arangements. I do know that I want Red roses and white cala lilies. I haven’t even decieded on my theme color yet. :(( What do I do?:((:((:((:((:((
I am getting married this sept (2007) I pick the bouquet that is right above this comment board and my Florist says it is perfect because sept. isn’t fall or summer. The bouquet has a little bit of both fall and summer colors. the Calla lillies are perfect for an elegant wedding.
Carrie-
Lilies are good for any season. For a fall wedding, I would recomend day lilies and/or stargazer lilies. Day lilies come in an array of colors including orange and shades of red and Stargazer lilies are white with pink and deep reds on the inside and they smell wonderful. Calla lilies also come in an assortment of colors, from white to purple. A particular wonderful color of callas is orange that fades to red on the lip of the flower.
I am getting married in Sept 2008, a traditional fairytale wedding! I would love Lilies in fall-type colours and possibly some orchids and greenery, I am wondering if these are good flowers for this season, or should i be thinking of another type flower?
im haveing my wedding(gothic, evil fairytale) in the fall of ‘08 and i want some extremely unusual floral arangements…i LOVE lillies and orchids i want them to be DARK red or look black with some red roses. i was wondering if i would have to speacial order these and when they would be avaliable season wise.
