Choosing Your Wedding Colors: A Guide for Designing Brides

There's no question: choosing wedding colors is one of the earliest, trickiest tasks a bride has to cross off the list. You can't even talk your florist until you've worked this out.

And even if you're getting the cake from Ron Ben-Israel, he's not going to ask you whether your wedding theme draws elements from 14th century Venetian court dress ... he'll ask you about your colors.

A mere generation ago, planning the wedding was a lot easier. It expressed your social class, and your parents' tastes. Even if they had particular ideas, the market couldn't offer much in terms of individual design. But these days, your wedding expresses your personal style in a way it never has before. Translation? The pressure's on!

Sussing Out Your Style

Some brides can solve the color question without thinking too much about style. They might have a life-long love for purple. Or, their venue might have strong hues they need to coordinate with. Or, when they picture their wedding, they already see their bridesmaids awash in certain colors. Easiest of all: sometimes they already have a theme in mind.

For others, it's not that simple. Still, you can quickly pin down the styles that get your heart beating almost as fast as your fiancé does. Does Martha Stewart's relaxed, preppy look command your undying devotion? Do you pray you can someday actually subscribe to H&M magazine? Did Vera Wang's modern, moody Bolshevik collections incite heavy breathing? This gives you some major clues.

Home Decor

Destination: Home, Sweet Home

Still, even if you don't consider yourself a fashionista or a Martha devotee, all's not lost. Instead, let's turn our eyes back to home and hearth.

Many brides aren't just looking forward to a wedding, they're also buzzing with anticipation over the dream house they plan to share with their beloved. And in the process of hunting down this love nest, most spent lots time mulling over their personal style. What did you picture in your mind's eye as the right setting for your new life together? A rangy colonial with a gabled roof? A warm, log-sided farmhouse with a wood stove in the kitchen? Or did you dream of finding a downtown loft bursting with recessed lighting and monochromatics, and flip through the new IKEA catalog to pick out your cabinets?

Or consider: do you dream of filling your home with antiques you can pass down to your children? Look to seasonal-inspired color schemes and ballrooms. Plan to drape your bedroom ceiling in yards of mosquito netting? A fairytale wedding drenched in candelabras, gold braid and gauzy swags might fit the bill. Collect exotic objects from all over the planet? Try an art museum for your setting, and a sophisticated or daring palette.

And if you're one of those eclectic types who pairs Amish rocking chairs with aboriginal artifacts, use this old designer trick: think of the last bit of art or furniture you bought to spruce up your house. That tells you what's on your mind lately.

Pink & Champagne Wedding

Your Secret Romantic Style

So, you know your domestic style is Eclectic Contemporary. Congratulations: that means you're holding a black-and-white wedding with chartreuse accents and ostrich feathers in a huge SoHo loft, right?

Hold it: not so fast. Why? Because many brides have a special romantic style that exists in a universe by itself. You might be thrilled picking out Art Deco style spaceships for your pendant lighting. And yet, when it comes your wedding, you might picture something a lot more traditional.

So even if you're the most fashion-forward girl on the block, take a moment to consider whether your wedding vision doesn't actually go back in time by few hundred years. You might secretly harbor a special place in your heart for New England autumns, Victorian elegance, English cottage style, or even timeless fairy tales. And if that's true, rest assured you've got plenty of company.

The Gown's the Guide

But how do you tell if this stylistic gotcha's operating in your case? Here's the secret: go get your dress.

For many brides, The Dress is a journey that starts with many preconceptions, but ends in the unexpected. Finding the dress is usually a case of recognizing it once you've tried it on, not knowing ahead of time what you'll wear.

And once you've found it, the dress will offer some big clues about your Romantic style. Captured by a demure ivory gown covered in Alençon lace, with a button-back closure? Start your search with pastels and neutrals that suit a 1930's vintage or feminine garden wedding. Fell hard for a sleek, diamond white v-neck that's all about the lines? Investigate the crisper, more playful palettes we see today, such as black and white, aqua, bright pinks, lime green and corals.Seasonal

Adjust for Geography, Venue and Season

Now that you've unearthed your personal style, it's time to look outward. If your style's traditional, for example, start with a hotel ballroom. If you want a strong seasonal feel for fall, try a rustic barn. Cultivated gardens go well with traditional, Martha-esque tints. Tents weddings are a blank slate: you can make them as classic or brazenly modern as your heart desires.

Geography, too, plays a role in your colors. Tropical affairs in the blinding sun are often showcases for the brightest hues of all: coral and orchid, for example, or aqua and orange. Evening white-tie affairs in New York City? Not so much.

Many brides are in the middle, and want to weave in at least a seasonal hint. Fortunately for them, most seasons have palettes both traditional and modern. For example, a classic summer wedding might feature cornflower blue or sage, where a modern one draws on fuchsia and lime green, or orange, pink and black.

Even flowers help set the style. For example, a profusion of pinks in a bouquet of roses and peonies says English cottage. Mini-sunflowers and chrysanthemums says New England country. On the other hand, the color blocking in a hand-tied bouquet of purple callas is strongly modern.

Essential Color-Choosing Tools

Now you've got a style in mind, let's get to the art of actually picking colors. Here are a few can't-miss tools.

Color Schemer

You'll need to create a free account, but this wonderful site has user-created palettes aplenty that you can search by keyword. Once you've registered, hit the "search schemes" button and enter words that fit your vision, like "fall,""garden," "sunset," "winter." Or free-associate with adjectives like "nautical," "peaceful," "modern," "preppy" or even "trendy." We promise, you'll be hooked.

Sherwin-Williams Color Generator

Hit their site, and choose "FIND COLOR." Click on any color that draws you, and you'll automatically pull up two accent colors that complement it. Cool.

Big Huge Labs Palette Generator

Have a photo on your hard drive that seems to capture your wedding's heart and soul? Upload it to a palette generator, which will kick out most of the main hues involved. Unless you're on the beach, use one of the more neutral, calming colors as a primary (e.g., use it for bridesmaids or table linens), and the more nervous, high-energy colors as accents (use these in table napkins, chair sashes, ribbons, and some of your flowers.)

Make a Mood Board

Once you've narrowed down some favorites, start grabbing photos (for your own personal use, of course). Make a special folder on your hard drive, and save photos that seem to fit the colors, setting and season you're going for. If you've got any photo editing software, start putting them together in one big image. This will tell you more than thousands of words how your look will play out.

Purple Green

Making the Most of Your Choices

Now that you've got your colors, how can you really make them shine? A problem that plagues some brides is an oversized fear of chaos. Although it's simple, most weddings aren't at their best when the groomsmen's vests and ties exactly match the bridesmaids' gowns, which in turn match the bride's sash.

So, choose your colors wisely and stick with them, but strive for designing more than matching. Brown and ivory are neutrals when chosen thoughtfully, so use their many shades for a sophisticated, monochromatic look. If the bridesmaids wear mocha or persimmon, the men will look great in chocolate brown. And even if the flowers call for a palette of orange and yellow, let a little green or cream sneak in for dimension. Check for too much of a good thing: when the entire wedding party wears matching brown or black, the effect can be overpowering.

And They Lived Happily Ever After ...

When all's said and done, you're sure to have a great feeling about your colors, and how they fit your personal style. Even if the scheme you hit on isn't "I've loved that all my life!", it might be "I never would have thought of that, but I love these together!"

Picking your colors is a journey, just like finding the dress, or knocking all those planning items off your checklist. But hitting on the right colors, theme and setting for the ultimate expression of your own Romantic style? That can be the pleasure of a lifetime.

Hi Stacey my wedding is in June 2012 and i have lot of trouble choosing the colors, because my groom is afraid of wearing a girly color. So far i’m looking at a royal purple and a ice blue but still not sure. We are open to colors except pink :? and for the men we are looking at grey, white or black tux/suit. please help

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Shelly,
Could I get a venue link or pic, so I can see what will work best? Also could I get both of your fave colors or colors you are most drawn too? This will help narrow down your colors. Thanks!

      • shelly

Hi Stacey my favorite colors are purple and sky blue don’t have pics of the hall but it is not really big. i was thinking of using those to colors but not quite sure of how the decor would be.I am using rectangular tables can u give me some ideas for centerpieces and also how to coordinate these two colors with bridesmaid, flower girls and the color i should put the groom and groom’s men in plz. thx a million. ;)

        • shelly

Sorry bout that i was meaning to say using the colors sky blue/light blue and chocolate brown .

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Shelly,
          Here are some ideas….

          see this …

          brown & blue

          another …

This is a pretty way to coordinate the colors…

          See this wedding …

Reception photos in blue & brown

You can put the groom in brown or white and the guys in brown with light blue vests and tie, have girls in brown with light blue sash, carrying a mix of light blue and white flowers-you carry all blue( for your something blue) For the flowergirls have them in white with either blue or brown sashes or put them in all matching blue dresses( make sure the colors match the vests. If you don’t want to worry about matching colors just have all bridal and groom party in chocolate brown, groom in white with brown vest and tie, then the flowergirls in shade of blue dresses. There are many options to use that will all look good. I like to always recommend low centerpieces, you could use the tinted water( using food dye)in square vases with white flowers and votives. Want to axe the florals? Just have cylinder vases of blue tinted water and floating white candles, scattered with white rose petals and votives. Dollar tree website had these containers for a buck each. I love to recommend this centerpiece to brides because it has impact on a budget.

Hoping some of these help, if not, please let me know and I will look again.

    Hi Stacey,
Thank you for our awesome tips!! My fiance finally realized that he can’t just have his own color, that all the colors change, so we have compromised with yellow. He will have yellow and my bridesmaid dresses will be yellow. What a hassel!! THANK YOU for taking your time to put all the burgundy/wine together. I really appreciated this!! :)

This is a summer wedding in VA. The reception will be in doors in a ballroom setting.

    Thanks!

  5. Amanda

    Hi Stacy,
Im having issues coming up with a color for my wedding july 28,2012. My dress is ivory. I origionally wanted plum purple, lavender, and silver. When i went to a bridal boutique with my mom to look for my dress, mom was saying she wasn’t wearing lavender because it washed her out. The lady put her in a grayish looking dress. I was not happy at all with that. I didnt want grey paired with purple. So now im back to square one again with my colors. Any help???

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Amanda,
Lavender can be difficult for skintones especially older women, it is usually not recommended for older women. Picking colors to suit skintones is key or will wash them out. When the bridal party or mothers, they wont look and feel their best which will show in wedding pictures.
This is an article for bm’s skintones and dress colors.

And take a look at this one

The mothers can compliment but do not have to match the wedding colors. She should definitely feel good about the dress she purchases and how she feels in it. It should make her radiant. I would also ask her what she feels comfy in. If the bridal party is in lavender your mom could wear a deeper shade of purple, eggplant would be elegant. Gray would look stunning with your color scheme if you want her matching the colors closely. You could keep your color scheme too. I dont recommend working or changing the color scheme due to the mothers dresses, go with what you love and it will all be beautiful. If you went with something like this a gorgeous black dress would be stunning for her to wear, she could accessorize with trendy little kicks in a shade of purple and amethyst/silver earrings, necklace, bracelet.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      D,
Green is perfect year round. I would consider having all three: ivory/green/pink

      * look at this one

      * a lovely wedding

      * here’s one to look at

      • D

Thank you Stacey, very helpful ;)

        • D

Hi Stacey i’m back i decided to go with kelly green or apple green dress for my BM…and my groomsmen..mmmm don’t know yet :? do you have any idea what color I should let my MOH wear pleaseand my GM. pleaseeeeee help.I’d like for them to have different color. thanks ms. Stacey

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          D,
Welcome back! If you are going with green for the bm dresses then you could have your MOH in pink with same shade of green sash. It will tie it in nicely. For the guys, Black( my preference) or grey with ties( you could even use striped ties) matching the girls dresses would look sharp.
          See this ….

Some bridal and groom party ideas…

  9. Lori

Aye… Aye… Aye… I’ve always been into arts and have felt color cordinated, but not so much when it comes to my wedding. Wedding date is 6/16/12 in Iowa. The Ceremony and Reception are taking place at a country B&B setting. The venue has a 2 story Red Barn that drew my attention, a little campfire place and plenty of room. My original colors were Red and Teal with lots of crystals and bling. I was feeling Edgy, Somewhat Vintage and Chic. Now I’m doubting my choices. I love Red and feel that it would go great against the Red Barn. I also decided that the bridesmaids can wear a black dress of their choosing. So now I have Red and Black involved but am having a hard time figuring in the Teal. I’m going with alot of feathers in centerpieces and the bouquets. Originally thinking Peacock but not so much now. I just felt that Red, Teal and Black were more Fun and Edgy, Ed Hardy Style! I hired a band that will play 80′s and good dance music so was wanting the Rocker feel! Now I’m feeling of getting rid of the Teal and maybe adjusting into a lime green or light green? Thoughts? I would show you the website but am not fond of one of the pictures and don’t want it to be judged. Looks kinda Redneck Weddingish. But anyways it’s http://www.englishvalleybnb.com The dress I picked was the Reese Gown by Maggie Sottero.
Please Help! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on colors.

      Tiny,
What is her spouses’ fave color? Also what does the venue look like? Do you have a link? Thanks!

  12. Hi Stacy,

I am getting married March the 17th in Puerto Rico outside on the lawn of the hotel in right in front of the ocean. I have my colors down (somewhat) black, white, blue (ocean/deep), but I also wanted to include an orange (tropical) as a accent. What do you think?

  13. Hi Stacey,

I am getting married 10/5/2012 at the beach. Our ceremony will be on the beach, and our reception cite is on the 8th floor of a hotel overlooking the water and boardwalk. I haven’t been able to pick colors…. originally I wanted black, white, and pink.. then i was thinking maybe black, white, and a bright blue, but I am worried about the flowers if I have blue. I also was thinking maybe a burgundy with white or ivory? I like orange too but the bridesmaids seemed a little turned off by it. I need some expert advice! Thanks so much! :thankyou:

  14. Chalon

    Hi Stacey,

I am getting married Aug 11 of nxt year, I have my dress which is Champagne. I am having the hardest time deciding on the colors for my matron, maid & bridemaids dresses as well as the color for our recepition. My consultant that helped me w/ my dress suggested that my girls wear Cranberry Red.

I was told however that they should all have different colors. The Matron a color, maid another color & the bridemaids their own color. Please help me w/ this. I am so cluess right now. :?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Chalon,
Could I see your venue link or pic? It can help narrow down colors, also do you have any fave colors? I would also look to colors to suit the bm skintones. Here is a link that will show what works best for their skintones….

      • Chalon

Here is a picture of my dress & in the back ground you will see my sister in which we are the same skin tone & in the other pic you will see my MOH & she is a darker then me & my sisters. I like dark colors like chocolate brown, mocha, burnt orange & latte. :D

    • Chalon

I thought that I had found the venue but it turned out not to be large enough. I am looking @ this place http://www.holytrinityreceptioncenter.com/

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Chalon,

You could do something like this. After studying the venue, I would actually think about brown, gold, and creamy white. I think it would show the venue off nicely. If the guys dont want to wear brown then you can choose black tuxes with brown vest and tie. It looks great together( google image black and brown tux. Your pic didnt show, could you repost it.

        * Try this board

        * My fave look with your venue….

        • Chalon

Thanks!! :D I do like the ideas that you gave. My soon to be hubby refuse to wear a black tux, so we will be looking @ brown for them, he actually wants to wear a Linen Suit. I have yet to see one myself & not to sure about how that will look w/ my dress. I will try to attach my dress again.

        • Chalon

This is the dress I am attaching from David’s hope this one shows up

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

Chalon, I would definitely go with a elegant brown and ivory. The girls in chocolate would be beautiful but dont overlook a beautiful shade of gold, it may go with her skintone.Hoping it wont wash them out. I would avoid latte and taupes. Orange can be difficult for skintones to wear. Another choice would be a deep red, not bright but more cranberry. With your dress style and the venue setting style, I wouldnt have the groom in linen. I would have him in a classic brown tux.

        • Chalon

:thankyou: Stacey!! I have one more question …I have 2 Matron of Honors & 2 Maid of Honors & 5 Bridesmaids. I have been told that each set should have something different from the other,so that ppl will know who is who, so do you think that I should have 3 different colors or put all 9 of them in the same color but different dresses?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Chalon,
You could have each girl choose their own dresses or have them in the same dress with all same bouquets except for the MOH her bouquet can be a different color or style, that way everyone will know. But with the bridal lineup, that will also show who is who, since the best man and Moh stands directly to the side by the bride and groom. So its a matter of personal choice. I would ask the girls what they would rather have, same style or different style dresses in same color. With a neutral like brown( very rewearable color and dress) they may want different styles to fit their personal taste. :D If by chance, brown dont look good on some and champagne will, you could have the girls in each of those colors. I would just go with their skintone and pick one color universally flattering to all or no more than two colors for example: brown and champagne or brown and cranberry, that way they all will look and feel their best.

  15. Carina C

Hello Stacey my wedding is July 21, 2012 and would like some ideas for flowers and colors I should use. My color theme are purple, white, ivory, and lavender. My bridesmaids dresses color eggplant. My dress is in ivory and our wedding venue’s walls are painted in yellow with vines painted around. It’s a garden like venue with 2 huge patio doors that open up. Can you please help me with ideas for decorations and flowers. Please thank you! Here is a picture of my venue

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Carina C,
Wow that is beautiful, reminds me of a enchanted castle. I have to say I love the candelabras and ceiling swag in this room. It really sets it off.

Something like this would work well…

      THIS would be stunning…
( just a monochromatic wedding using light to dark shades of purple) You could keep this shade of linen or you could deepen it, either way it would look fantastic.

      More of this wedding…
( the only thing I would add is greenery to the florals so it will have that lush garden feel)
Let me know what you think! :D

      • Carina C

Thank you Stacey every link you provided to me for ideas is very helpful. I really like the ivory tables, with lavender/white/and green flowers. I was thinking the same of having all ivory/white roses with greens. But some shades of purple in there will work perfect. Thank you, you are truly amazing!

        • Carina C

BTW the dress on far left is the dress I chose for my bridesmaids. It is also the exact color too. At first my thought was just to have all white roses with green hydrangeas, but do you suggest for some shades of purple in their bouquets as well? But I am worried it might take the attention away from their dresses. Also I included a picture of my wedding gown? What colors of flowers do you suggest?? Do you think just having all plain ivory/white roses will work??

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Carina C,
I am a little bit traditional. lol I love an all white bouquet for the bride and think it will be perfect. You can’t go wrong with the white and green for the girls but what would really set the dresses off would be a lighter shade of purple mixed with white and green. When you mix lighter with darker it gives an amazing impact. Posted a couple of pics for suggestions.

  16. HI Stacey,
I am getting married in December next year. Honestly i do not know where to start. Thus far i have been struggling with the colours. I had thought of Sage and Ivory but when i look at weddig pictures with that particular colour scheme, they look a bit dull. I thought of adding plum? not sure if it would come out nice? Please help, i love Sage, don’t want to remove it but I don’t know what to colour to mix it with… :?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Thandi,
Could I see your venue pic or link? It will help with narrowing down colors. Thanks!!

  17. jazmin

Hi stacey..im getting married in December next year. i want to start preparing as early as now but every time i try to search on the net, i always sleep in the night without any ideas yet. you see, i want a traditional and solemn church wedding. but i want to have a sunset on the boardwalk reception! i want my reception to be fun and i cant seem to think how im going to match our gowns and dresses, bouquets, etc of the ceremony with the fun and laid back reception i have in mind..please help me! :( BTW, i originally wanted a champagne and pink color palette

    Jazmin

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Jazmin,
Are you wanting it to be more like the “carnival” theme? That would be alot of fun! I am thinking black, white, and blush pink. It would really add to the mood.

Check this out, is the route you wanted to go?

heh look at this, think about adding even more whimsical things to it and it would really work, this looks fun. Love the sparklers, retro candies, retro style candies, could make the name cards look more “carnival”. Think about adding games to play like ring toss etc. Have “tickets” like at a carnival, think about a chalkbaord with a menu with loads of goodies including “fair style food”, cotton candy, candied apples. You coudl even axe the entire dinner food in favor of hot dogs, polish sausage dogs(yum), or hamburgers and chips, sodas in glass bottles, etc. For the girls let them pick out simple black dresses( on the fun side but suitable for a church wedding-pair with blush pink or mixed pink bouquets, guys in black too. If you want to have the girls in pink or champagne then you could also pair a deeper or lighter pink bouquet depending on the dress color and guys in classic black or even grey.

      Peek at this

  18. Trish

    Hi Stacey!

I am getting married Aug 2012 in the Ventana ballroom (http://www.eventihotel.com/manhattan-event-planning/photos.html). I am thinking of coral for the bridesmaids (http://www.jcrew.com/wedding/Wedding_Bridesmaid/bridesmaidpartydresses/cottontaffeta/PRDOVR~42859/42859.jsp), dark gray for the groomsmen. I like turquoise and yellow but want to keep it elegant rather than a casual affair with a myriad of colors so I’m thinking of having white or yellow flowers and accent with turquoise vases if i can find some. The centerpieces have me stumped because the linens and place settings are entirely white. What color should the bridesmaids bouquets and centerpieces be? Any suggestions on how to bring in color while keeping it glamorous and chic?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Trish,
      Great venue!
After studying the room, I think square glass vases of tightly packed mustard yellow or deep yellow( not bright)florals would look amazing. If you want to pull in some turquoise, secure a turquoise ribbon midway around a cylinder or a square vase and add a rhinestone “brooch”. You can look at any craft store and secure these easily. I am thinking it will give you the look you want without taking away from the room. Or you could have a loose arrangement of yellow calla lilies in a square glass vase. Would look amazing. Then pull in your turquoise in your menus or programs, in the writing and the border, even tying a turquoise/yellow ribbon around white napkins carrying the brooch there too. I am gonna try and find some ideas to post, for this color scheme. ;)

Would love to help! Were you needing help with attire or other issue? If I could get some quick details,I could narrow down some ideas. :D

  20. Samara

Hi Stacey, the above info has been so helpful! I am getting married 7.21.12 and am having the hardest time deciding on colors.. I am an earthy conservationist and work with animals and my fiancee is very into decorating with old pieces of hand made art and our house is an absolute eclectic mess of decor! I am also have a very bright personality and LOVE colors, how can you choose just one??? My main issue is with the bridesmaid dresses.. I am torn between neutral-ish in different shades (thinking greens or light browns??) and a bold rainbow (violet all the way to red in bright colors. Yes!). My girls are all different shapes and sizes and styles, which makes it difficult to think the same dress will look as good on my tiny blonde calendar model as it will on my more heavy set bright red haired pal. Our rehearsal dinner is at a loft in downtown with driftwood candle center pieces and stumps everywhere (it’s gorgeous) and our church basically looks like a cathedral. We are still in search of a reception hall but are in hopes of the contemporary history museum in our downtown. Please help me combine ideas?? ;)

      Samara,
If it were me, I would have a classic neutral for the bridesmaids and pair the brighter blooms against the dresses. Too many colors can look busy in photographs. There are ways to still have the effect you want though. I always recommend securing the venue so you can see what colors will and wont work. The easiest way to narrow down colors is by the venue and I can also see the style too. I highly recommend you each pick one to two colors that you lean to the most. Does he also love bright colors as well? Monochromatic is a way to keep color ( using different shades of one color) looking bright yet streamlined. Do you both have any fave colors? What about your closet, what clothing colors do you lean too? Think of your fave pieces in the home decor, you could also pick one each and work that into an idea. One way you both could go is Bohemian theme or a exotic theme.

      This is utterly amazing…

( it has that handmade touch look mixed with bright blooms and a touch of nature)

    Hi Stacey,

I am getting married on Sept. 21-28, 2013, my colors are Gray, Tiffany Blue or Cornflower blue and accent of yellow. I need to know if those are fall colors. I want to add either white or black to it. Which one would go with fall. A friend told me that my colors are for spring and summer. This is correct our birthdays fall at the beginning of both seasons. We both love fall and the meaning of change. Let me know if you think this is ok for fall and what would be the final color. Thanks Latasha

        Latasha,
I have a wedding with the colors here that would work for fall and this room. I am not so sure I would sure I would add the gray. After double checking some colors, it didn;t seem to compliment when paired with the other two colors. In this wedding link it has the black wrought iron chairs, then you could have the menu cards with black writing, and a very dainty black ribbon in simple white favor boxes would work too. I like the white linens best with the deep aqua color( as shown). Have your bridal party in classic black, would look amazing! You could also have the matching white or cream chair covers, add black wrought iron centerpiece holders. There are loads of ways to add accents of black.
        Here is the link….

Let me know what you think or if you want more traditional fall colors. If so, what are the colors that you lean to most, any fall faves? You could do a simple black and white and add fall colored centerpieces, would look classic. You can also look thru my previous mood boards for any ideas or inspiration that may stand out to you…

I am having a hard time choosing colors, originally I loved gold with like a dark purple, but I saw this pic with a bright red deep orange and a deep brown??? I kind of want fall which is why i am leaning toward the second choice, but I loved the gold at first.
    Thanks

Hi, I’m planning for a September wedding with a Sukkot (Jewish feast of tabernacles) theme. My idea was to (at first) use tanzanite blue (my engagement ring is tanzanite) as one of the colors along with champagne. Because this Jewish festival includes particular plants – willow, etrog (type of lemon) myrtle and palm, I wanted to incorporate these. Now, my idea is ivory, champagne and burgundy. We hope for an evening wedding. Would either of these color schemes work? Or what about bright red with pale lavender for a July evening wedding?

      Liz,
Your colors scheme is beautiful. Could i see your venue link or pic? That way I can tell which scheme will work best. Thanks!!

    Hi Stacey,

I am the opposite of a bridezilla – - Despite being engaged since May 2010, my wedding planning is in need of dire help. I have my ceremony venue, reception venue and my dress.

The wedding is less than 2 months away and it will be held on the island of St. John, USVI. I want a classy and elegant event, yet accomodating to the outdoor and humid environment. It is a sunset wedding and I would like to have my bridemaids in a champagne colored cocktail length strapless dress, with bright colored flowers. I am having difficulty deciding on the mens’ attire. At first, I though black suits would be a welcomed break from the traditional cream suits for beach weddings, but my FH and his groomsmen are claiming that it might be too warm for that. Further complicating the matter is that myself and my FH each have a member of the opposite sex on our sides. So, it looks like:

Female, Male, MOH, Bride, Groom, BM, Female, Male (plus a Jr BM and GM and one flower girl).

I have attached photos of my dress, the venue, the reception venue, and the bridemaids’ dresses that I am leaning towards.

I have changed my wedding colors so many times, varying from shades of purple and blues. I need some serious advice.

Any advance on accentuating colors for my wedding scheme and the groomsmen’ attire would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

So…..I found a dress that I love that is one of a kind but it’s in a light ivory…our wedding colors were originally going to be a Bright pink (Watermelon), Silver and small hints of clover green…

My Fiance want’s to wear either a white or silver (not grey silver :P) suit/tux he may be open to ivory but he doesn’t seem convinced (PS He’s african so we need to go with black skin)

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Isabella,
I would not have the groom in white because next to the ivory dress it will look “dirty” and not crisp. He should also be in ivory. Silver would work for him as well.

:D ;) :P   :? :love2:    more »
