The Aqua Blue Wedding

It might say beach. It might say Fifth Avenue.

Either way, the aqua blue wedding (often paired with the most classic of supporting acts, like silver, pearls and creamy roses) is a feast for the imagination ... and the eyes.

How to Plan Your Own Aqua Blue Wedding

Plenty of aqua brides stick to their beloved blue, offset with lots of crisp white and crystal. But many brides accent with more colors. Popular uptown picks include chocolate brown, platinum and soft pastel pink. Beachier combinations include orange, fuchsia or yellow. Fearless brides even pair aqua with red!

This look offers so many choices, you just need to lay claim to yours. Decide whether to "spread the wealth" with faux pearls and seashells, or swarovski crystals and platinum accents, or seashells or giant white ostrich feathers — or some other direction that's all your own.

Aqua Blue and Crystal

If you're a crystal bride, you'll sparkle in a gown with a bodice lightly embroidered with Swarovski crystals, and tuck a crystal tiara in your updo.

Then, thrill your bridesmaids with crystal hair pins or combs. Plus, place glimmering picks in your floral bouquet, or skip the blooms and bear an all-Swarovski heirloom crystal bouquet down the aisle.

Having a tent wedding? Line the marquee roof with string lights, hang clear crystal chandeliers from the center, and prop up more crystal in the form of grand candelabras topping Corinthian columns.

Then, look into the new pintucked linens with subtle metallic thread, and draw on crystal-studded placecard frames to guide your guests to their seats. Top off your cake with another tiara, circling a sweet dome of cream-colored roses.

Aqua and Platinum

Imagine crisp white roses peeking out of silver trumpet vases. Sleek silver candlesticks keep the look going, with delicate white rose petals scattered at the base. A silver monogram sets off the top of your cake. Brushed silver frames announce each table number and guest seat.

Guests tuck into a delectable meal over silver chargers, after oohing and ahhing over the generous favor box that graced their plate. While you finished up with your photos, they'd enjoyed a signature cocktail made with Blue Curacao and a jigger of pineapple juice, gussied up even more with a bright blue sugar rim.

Your gifts to your bridesmaids? Sterling-silver pendants ... and timeless silver cufflinks for the guys.

Aqua Hits the Beach

Aqua's a favorite color of beach-bound brides everywhere. Don't be afraid to pair aqua with eye-popping colors like fuchsia or coral, aubergine or pale yellow. For flowers, start with white or fuchsia orchids and super-fluffy peonies. Want to go a little wilder? How about coral roses and Pincushion Proteas, or fuchsia gloriosas.

Aqua Goes to Paris

Take this flamboyant theme (perfect for bridal showers, too) for a spin by arranging giant ostrich feathers in tall Eiffel vases and scattering marabou feathers plus rose petals down your tables. The perfect boutonniére: a white rose, a few marabou feathers and a shiny aqua ribbon. Trés chic!

More Aqua Tips for Any Bride

A classic treatment of aqua calls for a classic flower. It's easy to lose your heart to roses in white, blush or even peach. For an elegant centerpiece, go for paveed roses arranged side-by-side in aqua wooden boxes. Or place simple posies of white and blush roses in square glass cylinders, tying them off with a blue satin ribbon.

A white and aqua candy buffet also makes a stylish statement. Try silver Hershey's kisses, blue Jordan almonds, and white amorini and conversation hearts.

Aqua Attire

David's Bridal has made suiting up for aqua easy (look for "Pool"). Popular combos for bridesmaids (again!) include ivory, pink and chocolate brown in some combination with aqua.

It bears repeating, though: aqua can be overpowering in large doses, unless you lighten it up with a splash of white. The white crinolines shown above are one gorgeous way of breaking up the color block of your bridesmaids' gowns.

Another option: confine aqua to smaller canvases, like sashes, vests, or table overlays.

Speaking of vests, the guys will look sharp in black tuxes with aqua blue ties. Look into those chocolate brown tuxedos too, which make a visually eye-popping match for chocolate brown/aqua blue bridesmaids.

    Hi ladies,
I have a dress for sale. New with tags, never worn. I also have a pool sash to go wtih it, al from David’s Bridal. Size 12 but for a size 10 body since David Bridal makes their dresses small. You can wear it with the pool sash or just keep the white sash that came with it. I paid $399 for the dress and $59 for the sash plus taxes but I will sell all for $350.
I bought this dress because I really loved it when I tried it on and would have used it but my Dad who wasn’t supposed to be at my wedding because of his health and travelling issues decided to buy me a dress, how could I not accept? So I now have two beautiful dresses. If you are interested, please email me at maybride@live.com

Hi, I am looking for two long-sleeve groomsmen’s shirts (and one for the ring bearer, if possible) in a light aqua linen, silk, hemp, or blended woven fabric, preferably without a pocket on the chest. Has anyone seen anything like this at retail or online, preferably under $60 each? I am starting to think I’m going to have to buy white and dye them myself!
    Thanks!!!

  15. Tiffany

    Hey Girls
Does any one know of any good places to get Tiffany blue colored paper lanterns?I cant seem to find them:(THANKS

    • Jill

Hi, eBay has a lot under “blue paper lantern” at a variety of price points. You can email the sellers and ask them the true color of the item. Also, Oriental Trading has some, but they’re printed and more of a darker turquoise.
One of the posters said she spray painted a lot of her items. You could buy white and lightly spray them, or maybe hang Tiffany blue ribbon off of them?
      Jill :o)

    • Jessica

      Hey Ladies,

Target has some aqua paper colored lanterns, 2 for $2.50 in the dollar spot right now!

My flowers were a mix of fuscia gerber daisies, green hydrangea, blue hygrangea and ivory and fuscia roses. My maid of honor had a mix of fuscia gerber daisies, fuscia roses and blue hydrangea. So pretty that I enlarged a close-up shot of the bouquet, framed it, and hung it in my bedroom.

    • stbMrsList

Hello! I am sure I want to use aqua/tiffany blue for my evening wedding July 10, 2010. The venue I have picked has a lot of greenery, white twinkle lights, white chairs, and an option of white, ivory, or black tablecloths. I have seen the venue set up with the various linens and the black ones look the best–otherwise there is too much white.

I think I want the overall color scheme to be pool/silver/black.

My question is what color bridesmaid dresses should I use? I’m planning on black tuxes with pool ties/vests for the guys. Thoughts about black dresses with pool sashes or pool dresses with black sashes? Or silver dresses with pool sashes? I don’t want any of the colors to be too overwhelming.

      Thanks!

      • Jennifer

How many bridesmaids do you have? My wedding was last weekend and the bridesmaids wore the “pool” color. Do you want new dresses our would you consider these – :once worn” They are spill proof!

        • EMILY

Jennifer my wedding is July 2010, I have looked at the dresses in pool bule and would like to know what you have available before my bridesmaids purchase the dresses.

          Thanks

        • Jennifer

Emily – I responded to you through e-mail but I’m not sure if I needed to respond on this site or not. If you didn’t get it you can contact me at jkyounker@yahoo.com and I’d be happy to help!

        • Kym

So I was wondering about the bridesmaids dresses you have? what do they look like? What size? My colors are choc/pool i have two bridesmaids

      • Nicole

In my wedding Im using Pool/Aqua blue black & white. My girls dresses are black with a pool sash & underlay. The tables will have a black table cloth with pool blue napkins and white flowers centerpieces. Hope this helps :D

        • Jill

Hi, my reception is 6/19 and I was wondering if you plan to sell your napkins afterwards and if so how many do you have? If you’re renting them, what’s your source?
          Thanks so much!
          Jill

    • Josi

we’re getting married on the same day! :) :D

  22. Melissa

I am getting married Sept 5th and my colors are pool & fuschia. We have looked everywhere and can no longer find fuschia flowers. We are going with silk. Does anyone have any ideas about what colors would look good?

    • Jackie

fuschia hydrangeas! they are still gorgeous even when they’re silk!

      • stacey

        melissa,
are you having fushcia accents? you could simple white and green flowers. it would be beautiful against these colors. another is hot pink which is similar to fuschia. creamy orchids with the fuschia centers would work too with a hot pink flower.
*beautiful florals ( i am betting this website you could order everything you need quickly and premade)

here is one of my fave sites…
        *saveoncrafts

the dahlias and the calla lilies look superb. see how the dahlia has a pinkish bud? you could always find a pink or something close for the centerpieces. even solid white flowers with fuschia ribbon would be beautiful.

    Hi All!
Just finished my youngest sister’s wedding in Feb and she had aqua and white for her colors. Aqua hydrangeas and white tulips, and it was gorgeous! Here are some pics of the ceremony and reception flowers and arrangements that I did, along with the cake table decorations etc. Hope this helps!

    • Connie

More photos of the wedding decor….

    • Connie

      More photos…..

    • Connie

Hard to tell from the photo, but it was raining outside here in California in Feb. and we were inside for the ceremony. The light filtering through the windows on the billowing tulle fabric that fell from the arch was beautiful. I know you wouldn’t know it, but those flowers in the back on the arch are artificial that I put together myself. They can be seen in a photo post previous…..
Everything looked beautiful. It came out looking really classy.
They went with different types of blue candy for the reception favors and ordered them from candywarehouse.com. a little pricey, but the best value for bulk candy, and in pretty much any color you want. They were yummy!

    • Connie

woops, here’s that photo that I mentioned for the arch flowers….

  24. Jackie

I just had a July 4th wedding, the bridesmaids wore David’s Bridal Pool long jersey dresses (there were 9 bridesmaids, so there are a lot of sizes to choose from if anyone is interested in purchasing any of their dresses). I have 25 square pieces of tiffany blue/pool blue fabric (approx. 2.5 feet by 2.5 feet) that we used for part of the centerpiece (see photo). I have a few of the heads of the gerbera daisy flowers left (also used in the centerpieces). I have 9 small plastic vases and 1 large plastic vase that we planned to use for bouquets on the head table and didn’t need to. We did a candy table, and I have some ribbon left (a few rolls) and I have at least 100 plastic celophane bags left. I have some blue pens that I bought for the guest book and never used. I have a bunch of blue paint & blue glitter that hasn’t been used (we were going to paint wooden letters to place on the candy and gift tables and never had the time!). I also have a polariod camera that we used for the guest book (took polariods of the guests as they walked in the door and they signed next to their picture in a scrapbook!).

If there is anything you are interested in that I have listed, email me and I can tell you prices.

Check out any of the pictures at http://www.mollymariephotography.com, click on client login and go to Jackie & Sheldon Wedding.

    Thanks!

    • Keanna

How much for your cellophane bags and also what fabric was used on your candy buffet? Is it also the square pieces you are selling? If so how much for 10 squares? email me keannamcclendon@yahoo.com

    • Karie Meier

Oh my goodness! Your wedding looks exactly like what I want to do for mine! Mine is September 13, 2009 on the Oregon Coast and I am interested in all of the stuff you listed. Could you possibly email me prices or more pictures? My bridesmaid dresses were available in every size except one so I would be interested in those as well. Hope to hear from you soon!

      • Jackie

I don’t have any more pictures than the ones on the website I listed earlier (if you haven’t checked it out – there are over 800 pictures!) but email me @ jacqueline.wing@kohler.com and I can tell you prices or try to explain more of the things I have!

    • Amanda Johnson

      Hi There!

I saw you have some pool blue fabric left from your wedding! I’m getting married August 29 and the theme is the pool blue with daisies as well and I’m curious to see how much you are charging for the fabric? One of the last things I need to get for the centerpieces…but I don’t want to pay the price for the overlays. Let me know when you can!

      Thank you!
      Amanda

    • Alicia Barnett

How much do you want for the Polaroid?

    • DAWN

Hi! I am interested in your dresses. How much are you selling them for??

    • Lindsey

I’m also interested in your dresses. They are gorgeous! what sizes do you have??

      • Jackie

There are 9 sizes, I’m not 100% positive on them, but I’m pretty sure there are:
        4 size 2′s
        1 size 4
        1 size 6
        2 size 8′s
        1 size 10

As for a price, The girls paid $150 for them. They would be willing to sell them for half the price plus shipping.

Let me know if you are still interested!

Which style do you have the size 2′s available in??

        • Jackie

3 are strapless, 1 has the one-shoulder strap.

        • DAWN

Has the one with the one shoulder strap been altered? If not, I’ll take it!! Please call me at 225-241-8649.

        • Jackie

unfortunately, it has been altered… it was shortened a bit to fit a girl who is 5’3″. let me know if this would still work!

        • DAWN

    PLEASE HELP!

Does anyone know of a website where I can buy aqua plastic or paper plates, plastic cups, plus forks & spoons? I’m having a difficult time finding a true “aqua” and this website doesn’t offer plates, etc. as far as I can tell. I’m running out of time! Thanks!

  30. Jessica

My bridesmaids are wearing tiffany blue knee length dresses with white sashes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the Mother’s should wear? I know their outfits should complement, but im not sure what color they should wear. Also, any suggestions on how to differentiate the MOH, or is that even necessary?

    Thanks!

    • stacey

      jessica,
the moh can dress same, similar, or different. you make make subtle changes to the sash color or the bouquet. overall, if you have her wear the same dress, i would have her bouquet be a tad different, an added flower or flower color, bouquet ribbon color. the mothers could wear a deeper shade of blue or a deeper champagne(as long as you are not wearing champagne) she can also choose to wear a classic neutral. whatever she chooses just make sure she feels beautiful, confident, and it looks great with her body and skintone.
*what does a mother wear and wedding ( google search results so you can thumb through tips)

:D ;) :P   :? :love2:    more »
