Unique Beach Wedding Themes

Considering a beach wedding? The possibilities are as endless as your imagination!

One thing about choosing a beach wedding theme: it gives you total creative freedom.

And depending on the time of day, the beach sets a different mood. At sunrise or sunset, it's serene and romantic. At mid-day, it's the hub of excitement, action, and fun. Thanks to nature, a beautiful scene's already been painted for you. No need to overdo the decorations!

Planning an intimate affair with just a few guests? Let the beach set the stage for your love story seaside ceremony at dawn or dusk. The rising or setting sun will provide a spectacular background for your wedding photos.

On the other hand, if you want to "tell the world" and have a large gathering, consider a midsummer day "beach-side bash" or fantasy beach wedding. Your guests can participate. Everyone has fun!

A Few Ideas to Get You Started ...

Be Cinderella with your Prince Charming. Have him place the "glass slipper" that fits on your foot as a symbol of your perfect union. You could hire a professional sand sculptor to build a beautiful sand castle as a background for your fairytale theme. When the vows are exchanged and the cake has been cut, depart in a horse-drawn carriage.

Have a Pirate Wedding. Rent costumes and decorate with treasure chests, faux gold coins and jewelry. Have a real treasure hunt. When it's time to take your leave, sail off into the sunset.

How about an "I Dream of Jeannie" beach wedding theme? Decorate the sand by setting up beautiful, colorful bottles like the one she was found in. At the end of the day, disappear in a cloud of smoke!

A Western beach wedding theme would be fun — and many beaches allow horseback riding. The reception could be a good old-fashioned fireside "camp out" under the stars. Of course, you'll leave on horseback.

Have a Rainbow Wedding. Create a rainbow to wed beneath out of brightly-colored helium filled balloons tied together in an arch. Secure them down with heavy "pots of gold" at each end. Have everyone bring a colored umbrella to decorate the aisle with. Great back plan up in case it rains!

Butterfly weddings are popular these days both on and off the beach. Shades of yellow and orange with butterflies woven among the flowers in your tiara and bouquet would be beautiful. Use butterflies as boutonnieres for the guys.

A Surfing theme would be tons of fun. You'll start with surf boards, acoustic guitars and "The Beach Boys," right?

A Parting Shot

Don't rule out your ideas because you don't live near an ocean. The definition of a "beach" is - "the shore of a body of water, especially if sandy or pebbly." Yes, Virginia, that includes lakes and rivers. For that matter, you could have a "beach" right by your swimming pool. There are no rules. Be creative!

It's your beach wedding ... it can be anything you want it to be — wherever you want it to be! Most of all ... have fun.

We are having a beach wedding and I would like to use the colors fuschia, tangerine, and lime but need decorating ideas and bridesmaid dress ideas. I was going to use yellow, tangerine, and lime but I really like how the hot pink looks and it goes well with stargazer lilies (my favorite flower). I’m think also the theme to tie everything together would be citrus (though I would like princessy but I don’t think it would work) Above all, we want the atmosphere of the wedding to be fun, fun, fun!!! Help please :-)

Hi. I am also having a beach themed wedding andI wanted to incorporate something from childhood days at the Jersey Shore. I’m doing a table with different sized cylinders and bowls filled with varieties of boardwalk style candy. Salt Water Taffy, Rock Candy, Swedish Fish, etc. Hope this helped a little!

I am trying to figure out some unique ways to have an old-school Boardwalk-beach theme wedding, that would have hints of the days when people would go to the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ. Any ideas?
