Diamond-Theme Weddings

If our feedback tells us anything, diamond-theme weddings have piqued the interest of more than a few brides.

Which isn't surprising, given this ultra-precious gem's long ties to everlasting love, and its invitation to stick to ultra-hip monochromatics (from the wintriest white to sultry ivories).

The only hitch? Most people can't afford to shower their guests with the real thing. Not to worry, though — there are plenty of ways to sparkle on your big day without having to raid Fort Knox. Here are a few of our favorite finds:

Cake

Go with a towering set of gift boxes, topped off by a monogram or wire spray dripping with crystals. Alternative: go simple, with fondant frosting carved into diamond patterns, then studded at the corners with glistening, edible pearls.

Flowers

Choose traditional blooms (roses, peonies in whites and ivories) given a sparkling center with Swarovski-studded pins and picks. Don't forget to add a rhinestone-studded monogram to your bouquet wrap.

Attire

In addition to that gorgeous engagement ring, amp up the bling by donning a diamond-accented wedding gown with lines so sleek, all eyes are on you (Henry Roth). Keep your hair simple and chic, but tuck in a few sparkly hair pins. Don't forget to strut your stuff with crystal-studded sandals or deliciously retro shoe brooches.

Favors and Gifts

Diamond-shaped paperweights in luxurious satin-lined gift boxes let your bridesmaids know you think they're real gems. As for the guest favors, put something personal and tasty in a gorgeous lidded box. Finish it off with satin ribbon and a customized, rhinestone-studded label with a diamond ring design.

Or take that diamond ring design and gift your girls with hand creams personalized with your names and date or a special message. Want something a little weightier? Treat your guests to a crystal engagement ring keychain with that satisfying heft and chunky feel we all adore.

Extra Touches

Have a sculptor carve a gorgeous giant rock on a pillow of ice (add floral arrangements for maximum "wow"). Scatter the tables with foil-wrapped chocolate diamonds. Send a diamond-themed save-the-date that just happens to be a practical mint tin. Turn your linens into a sight to behold with dramatic chrome-and-crystal napkin rings.

And don't forget — rhinestone stickers are your secret weapon. Use borders pre-designed into squares, circles or even monogram letters to jazz up your favor labels, or apply individual rhinestone accents or adhesive jewels to just about anything (details on wedding cameras, escort cards). You'll be amazed at how great ordinary items can look with just a few well-placed diamante accents.

Ice Advice

How are you bringing bling to your diamond-theme wedding? Found some invitations to die for? A cake design that makes you drool?

We’re using diamonds and pearls (both are accents on my dress) so I’m trying to find a way to balance the two. I know fabric stores that I’ve been to sell some rhinestone trim by the yard the same way they sell ribbon. You could wrap that around vases, bouquets, anywhere else you want it. I think we’re going to use the rhinestone monogram initials on all our girls’ bouquets too (their own initials of course).

For favors or at least the cake mints and because I make chocolates…I am making diamond shaped mints with an edible diamond dust for shimmer! I make suckers for my friends wedding favors so I might do a ring sucker with a notecard of our date and names or something like that….Any other ideas for favors?

Hi Kelli, a few ideas that all rely on combining sparkle with light. One, you can buy inexpensive glass hurricane lamps, stud the lamps with rhinestones and fill each one with with a simple white pillar candle. You could add a rhinestone butterfly here and there to tie it back to your venue.

You can also find adorable smaller rhinestone buckles to tie around your candles with a white satin ribbon … to match your dresses. These come in squares, circles, heart shapes, and look very vintage and chic.

Two, plop pillar candles in a lucite / diamond base (See photo here).

Three, buy floating diamond gel candles and place them in a glass bowl with a simple, elegant flower or two (e.g., white orchids). See photo here. Both these photos have links to where you can buy these items.

Also, take a look at these heart-shaped “diamond” confetti jewels … they could be really cute. Instead of just scattering them on a flat table, try bunching up a really shiny white satin in a rough circular shape, like you might see in a display case, and sprinkling them over that.

As for flowers, why not have your bridesmaids carry a crystal bouquet? These can be bought or made, and you can make smaller versions for the guys’ boutonnieres …

    Anyone else? :)

At first I was going to go with a tropical theme since were are getting hitched in a butterfly conservatory. However, I recently found my dress with a diamond belt buckle, very old Hollywood Glam looking…so I thought the Tiffany’s idea would work, but the groom doesn’t want any blue….so I decided Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend would work…my bridesmaids are wearing a cafe mocha dress with an ivory belted waste with a diamond buckle similar to mine….the cake will be a mocha satin icing with a diamond monogram at the top ….I am stumped on the flowers and centerpieces though….any suggestions?
