Pink Theme Weddings

Ah, pink. Some say a woman's life-long love for pink is biological. Others say it's nothing more than sweet free will.

Either way, for many brides, a wedding isn't the lifelong dream it should be without a hefty dose of pink.

And while the hues we pair with it might change from year to year, pink at its core ... which says young love, playfulness and fresh-faced romance ... sends the same beloved message across the ages.

Still, even pink isn't immune to the forces that, over time, make weddings ever-more personal statements of our own individual design sensibilities ... and love stories.

So while some pink weddings hark back to fairy tales from once-upon-a-time, others are practically punk-rock (you won't see yards of tulle at your typical pink and black wedding). And then there are the unexpected pinks: the ethereal pink and silver, for example, that warm up a modern winter wonderland wedding.

In fact, while pink might not exactly be the new black, it might actually be the new 'neutral' — cozying up gorgeously with all kinds of colors, creating looks that range from demure to drama queen.

pink picks

Pink on Pink, or Pink on White

This bride often loves the classic take on love, with plenty of pale pink rose petals to blanket the aisle. Bridesmaids' attire will probably be on soft side, with lovely sparkling brooches.

This bride might have pink winking out from her engagement ring in the form of pink sapphires, or even a JLo style pink diamond. The shoes might be oh-so-traditional bridal sandals, but sporting a perky bow and a tiny diamante stone — and we'll take bets that she's tracked down a pink satin garter for that leggy moment on the chair.

Her gown? All girl, possibly with elaborate lace overlays or a full ruched skirt. And the hair? We're guessing a half-up/half-down romantic tumble of locks.

Nothing's too feminine for this color scheme, so get out the pink marabou feathers for your chair backs, centerpiece vases or flower girls, go wild with the fluffiest pink poenies your florist can rustle up, wrap everything you can in romantic pink satin ribbons (bouquet stems, waists, pew cones) and don't forget some popular spins on ultra-pink: like the cherry blossom wedding. Want more of a garden look? Carry oversized bunches of bright pink tulips.

Pink and Black

This bride often leans toward bold graphic patterns (no fussy invites here!) ... and bold satin sashes. The bridesmaids' will probably be brightly attired, and you probably won't find her carrying a tight Cinderella posey of pastel roses, but something a little more fiery: hot pink cymbidium orchids, say, or a bouquet of Asiatic lilies. Pink anemones are eye-catching blooms, too, with their wild black centers.

Chances are, this bride's gown will belong to the Vera Wang school of slicked-down designs, and you might find some bright spots of color peeking out from under her gown: gorgeous bridal slingbacks in black or pink. Tabletop florals might be acid-bright clumps of chrysanthemums in a pavée design, or hydrangeas tipped to a deep and assertive hue. The perfect floor: a glossy black and white checkerboard pattern. (Note: black and pink brides might want to see The New Black & White Wedding.)

As for the cake? Black deco dots on a bright white canvas, or clean satin ribbons wrapped around the layers. And don't forget the bright pink signature drink: any take on Cosmos is bound to please.

A lovely spin on the pink and black look is a touch of toile: pink toile stationery topped with sleek black ribbons, or black toile table linens set off with hot pink satin napkins. Also, pink and black candy buffets serve up a sweet taste ... and a distinctively spunky look.

More Ultra-Popular Pink Schemes

Pink and Green

Miami Spice. Deliciously Deco. Perfectly Preppy. Or just a natural choice for your spring or summer garden theme.

Picture your bridesmaids in mint green ruffled gowns, carrying sleek bouquets of pink and white mini callas. A snowstorm of pink petals on pale green linens: gorgeous. It's no wonder that that wonder that's pink and green is just starting to rev all the way up, with more brides finding themselves fans by the month.

Pink and Orange

Depending on where you live, pink and orange (and all its cousins, like orange and fuchsia) might be practically classic, or delightfully daring. Pink and orange says "no fuss, no frills," and it's all about whimsy, color and clean lines. Pink and orange brides have cooked up all kinds of designs, but a Gerber daisy theme's among the most popular.

Pink and Brown

A less punky cousin of pink and black, this scheme combines two top-dog colors in today's wedding palette with gorgeous results. This is a hipster theme, calling for sassy stationery, big satin bows and grosgrain ribbons, funky polka dots or even modern paisleys.

And your flowers might be something a little left-of-center, too, like flaming pink orchids or Gerbers and bamboo. Somewhere in the process, pink and brown brides often find themselves a little torn between pink + brown or pink + aqua.

We are planning a wedding in May next year, the wedding theme is hot pink, chocolate brown and gold.I will put on ivory dress,Bridemaids will be in hot pink dresses but my problem is on what the groom and the groomsmen will put on,any suggestions pls!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Felistus,
Guys in brown with champagne vests and ties would work, Hot pink boutonnieres. If the guys don’t want to wear brown suits or tuxes then I would look at khaki with brown ties. It looks amazing and would work well. Google image pink and brown wedding groomsmen for ideas you may like also here is a couple real weddings…
Example 1 has black with brown and it looks nice.

      With the khaki…

Another look that is great is classic black. it goes with everything and you can pair it with any color you wish. Champagne, pink, or brown. It will tie in and alot of brides choose this option because most grooms don’t care to wear brown, so this is the best option if you still want that classic look.

I am trying to get ideas for my wedding. we have not set a date yet but I really want to go for an untraditional look and wear a black ball gown style dress with a hot pink ribbon at the waist and the bridesmaids to wear hot pink dresses while the groom wears a black tux with a hot pink tie and his groomsmen to wear black on black tuxes….would this look good?

    • staceyleah

      Leslie,
I see nothing wrong with this combo! It is unique and will show your style. Have you reserved a venue? If so, do you have a link or pic? If you haven’t I highly recommend securing a venue before choosing colors, so you will know they compliment the setting. Look forward to hearing from you!!

    Hi Stacey,

I’m planning a destination wedding in Jamaica in March 2012. the colour scheme is navy white and hot pink. I’ll be in ivory, the bridesmaids in hot pink and the groom in a navy suit with ivory shirt. the problem is, as it will be very hot the groomsmen won’t want to wear suits. what colour shirt would you suggest for them to wear with Navy/black trousers?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Ackee,
I would have them wear simple khaki pants and navy shirts and have groom in navy pants and ivory shirt. You could even consider all of them in the same attire with the groom in his jacket for the ceremony only. Personally, I think the khaki pants( which are common) for the guys will be cooler for them to wear and it looks amazing on a beach wedding. Love what the guys are wearing here…
scroll down to blue and khaki( yours could be navy and khaki)

        Thanks Stacey

I really like the vibrant colours used here. It’s got me thinking about my decor.

    Hi Stacey,

My wedding is next year as well, the colours we have chosen so far is Cherish pink, black and silver, but I want to bring in a bit of polka dots, do you think it will work?

  6. Samantha Bird

I am recently engaged and we decided our wedding colors are watermelon (hot pink), guava, and black. First I was wondering if you thought that the watermelon and guava looked right together. Also I was wondering if you had any suggestions. We get getting married in September 2012 if that helps.

    Hey :)
I’m engaged to be married within the next year and a half and was tryin to get some basic ideas for my wedding. My fiance is a Marine so he will be wearing his dress blues. I wanted to somehow incorporate pink in the wedding since its my favorite color and I don’t want the wedding to be all red, white and blue. Although, I’m proud of my marine. Lol. Any suggestions?

hi stacey please help me. I would be wedding in december and my colours are hot pink, chocolate and white.the groomsmen have hot pink shirts while the bridesmaids have a darker shade of pink dresses.i dont know what that dark shade of pink is called.my question is could the groomsmen wear the bridesmaids colour as their tie or do i change the bridesmaids dresses to hot pink instead?

  9. Brittany Adams

My wedding is May 19, 2012. I want hot pink and vibrant yellow; however, my caterer thinks I should use a hint of a third color like green. What do you think of these colors? I was looking at hot pink linens. I don’t like the banquet chairs so my caterer advised I rent black wooden chairs but nothing in my wedding is black. Is that a good choice? It’s inside a 6000 sq ft banquet room with a vaulted, dark wood ceiling and stack stone fireplace that goes all the way to the ceiling with black accents. Or I was also thinking of pale pink chair covers with hot pink sashes. What to do?

    Hi stacey,

  11. tamtrasam

    hi stacey, please help!
my original plan for my colour scheme was ivory and champagne -im getting married march 2012- but i found my dress the other day it is ivory but champagne looked dirty next to it. the groom and his men are in grey a middle colour not to dark not to light. i really need to find a colour i can match for a 25 year old and 10 year old my flower girl will be in ivory. there are so many different shades of champagne i just cant work out if it will go. i found a bronze dress i like but feel its to dark for the grey suits. and i really dis like red lol. thank you

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      tamtrasam,
You could have them in grey as well. It would look very nice with the ivory and champagne. Another color is peach or pink, even a plum shade. Can I see your venue, I might be able to pull a color from the setting/one that would compliment.

  12. Megan

    Hi Stacy-
We are getting married December 3, 2011 and I was planning on using pale pink and black anemones as my flower and centerpieces. Someone just told me these dont bloom in late Nov and early Dec! Is this true? I am finding conflicting information on the internet. We are getting married at the Portofino in southern California. Thank you!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Megan,
Anemones are seasonal flowers available from late December to late June. It is possible that Anemones will not be available during some weeks in November and December due to cold weather. You should be able to get them during the off seasons but the prices will be higher. iwould check with fifty flowers website to see if they can get these lil’ beauties. If not, you coudl use gerberas or use pale pink florals with black ribbon then pull in the pale pink flowers in vases with black ribbon and a brooch.
Another option: Use white with balck centers and mix them with blush pink roses. Fifty flowers shoudl have them available and due to the higher cost filling it with a bulk rate of blush pink florals will fit the bill nicely. Consider adding them in a solid black vase….
      * this is beautiful

      * french inspired bridal shower

These alternatives will still provide you with the look both color and floral wise. Hope it helps.

  13. Tamika

    Hi!
I’m planning my wedding for June 2012 and my main colours are mint green, rose pink/fuchsia and purple. Accent colours will be baby blue and tangerine. Plan to have the bridal party in Mint green and rose pink, the groom in purple and the maid of honour and best man in tangerine. Can this work? not sure how it’s gonna look?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Tamika,
I am thinking there may be to many colors in the color scheme. I suggest girls in mint green and rose sash or vice versa, guys in black with mint green ties and fuschia pink boutonnieres. Groom in black and white to go with your dress. Then pull in the MOH in mint green with tangerine sash or vice versa and best man in mint green with tangerine bout. pulling in a touch of purple and blue in the bouquets. Can I get a look at your venue link or pic? I wanted to see what and how many colors you will need. A good rule of thumb is pairing a neutral solid color( dresses) and having the bouquets multicolored, along with vest and ties like I mentioned. Cant wait to hear from you!

:D ;) :P   :? :love2:    more »
