Pink Theme Weddings

Ah, pink. Some say a woman's life-long love for pink is biological. Others say it's nothing more than sweet free will.

Either way, for many brides, a wedding isn't the lifelong dream it should be without a hefty dose of pink.

And while the hues we pair with it might change from year to year, pink at its core ... which says young love, playfulness and fresh-faced romance ... sends the same beloved message across the ages.

Still, even pink isn't immune to the forces that, over time, make weddings ever-more personal statements of our own individual design sensibilities ... and love stories.

So while some pink weddings hark back to fairy tales from once-upon-a-time, others are practically punk-rock (you won't see yards of tulle at your typical pink and black wedding). And then there are the unexpected pinks: the ethereal pink and silver, for example, that warm up a modern winter wonderland wedding.

In fact, while pink might not exactly be the new black, it might actually be the new 'neutral' — cozying up gorgeously with all kinds of colors, creating looks that range from demure to drama queen.

pink picks

Pink on Pink, or Pink on White

This bride often loves the classic take on love, with plenty of pale pink rose petals to blanket the aisle. Bridesmaids' attire will probably be on soft side, with lovely sparkling brooches.

This bride might have pink winking out from her engagement ring in the form of pink sapphires, or even a JLo style pink diamond. The shoes might be oh-so-traditional bridal sandals, but sporting a perky bow and a tiny diamante stone — and we'll take bets that she's tracked down a pink satin garter for that leggy moment on the chair.

Her gown? All girl, possibly with elaborate lace overlays or a full ruched skirt. And the hair? We're guessing a half-up/half-down romantic tumble of locks.

Nothing's too feminine for this color scheme, so get out the pink marabou feathers for your chair backs, centerpiece vases or flower girls, go wild with the fluffiest pink poenies your florist can rustle up, wrap everything you can in romantic pink satin ribbons (bouquet stems, waists, pew cones) and don't forget some popular spins on ultra-pink: like the cherry blossom wedding. Want more of a garden look? Carry oversized bunches of bright pink tulips.

Pink and Black

This bride often leans toward bold graphic patterns (no fussy invites here!) ... and bold satin sashes. The bridesmaids' will probably be brightly attired, and you probably won't find her carrying a tight Cinderella posey of pastel roses, but something a little more fiery: hot pink cymbidium orchids, say, or a bouquet of Asiatic lilies. Pink anemones are eye-catching blooms, too, with their wild black centers.

Chances are, this bride's gown will belong to the Vera Wang school of slicked-down designs, and you might find some bright spots of color peeking out from under her gown: gorgeous bridal slingbacks in black or pink. Tabletop florals might be acid-bright clumps of chrysanthemums in a pavée design, or hydrangeas tipped to a deep and assertive hue. The perfect floor: a glossy black and white checkerboard pattern. (Note: black and pink brides might want to see The New Black & White Wedding.)

As for the cake? Black deco dots on a bright white canvas, or clean satin ribbons wrapped around the layers. And don't forget the bright pink signature drink: any take on Cosmos is bound to please.

A lovely spin on the pink and black look is a touch of toile: pink toile stationery topped with sleek black ribbons, or black toile table linens set off with hot pink satin napkins. Also, pink and black candy buffets serve up a sweet taste ... and a distinctively spunky look.

More Ultra-Popular Pink Schemes

Pink and Green Miami Spice. Deliciously Deco. Perfectly Preppy. Or just a natural choice for your spring or summer garden theme.

Picture your bridesmaids in mint green ruffled gowns, carrying sleek bouquets of pink and white mini callas. A snowstorm of pink petals on pale green linens: gorgeous. It's no wonder that that wonder that's pink and green is just starting to rev all the way up, with more brides finding themselves fans by the month.

Pink and Orange Depending on where you live, pink and orange (and all its cousins, like orange and fuchsia) might be practically classic, or delightfully daring. Pink and orange says "no fuss, no frills," and it's all about whimsy, color and clean lines. Pink and orange brides have cooked up all kinds of designs, but a Gerber daisy theme's among the most popular.

Pink and Brown — A less punky cousin of pink and black, this scheme combines two top-dog colors in today's wedding palette with gorgeous results. This is a hipster theme, calling for sassy stationery, big satin bows and grosgrain ribbons, funky polka dots or even modern paisleys.

And your flowers might be something a little left-of-center, too, like flaming pink orchids or Gerbers and bamboo. Somewhere in the process, pink and brown brides often find themselves a little torn between pink + brown or pink + aqua.

I’m doing hot pink and black, with silver and polka dot accents. My wedding is going to be in June or July 2009. I think it looks really cute together. I’m doing black bridesmaids dresses with a hot pink sash, and I’m using hot pink roses, and Gerber daisies for flowers. I was going to do pink and brown, but one of my friends did that. I’m a little more punky anyway; so i think hot pink and black is the way to go.

In response to Tara, my wedding is also pink and white. For my centerpieces, I am doing glass vases on mirrors with rose petals sprinkled at the base. Hobby Lobby has this material called “crystal gel” that will be in the bases. It looks like crystals. All you do is add water to the material, let it set, and it looks like crystals. I am going to dye the crystal gel pink by using fabric coloring that is the same pink shade of my wedding. It is really neat and very cheap. I am going to top the vases off with tiger lily and calla lily flower arrangements. I have one question for all of you guys. The shade of pink I chose is Hot Pink. My bridesmaids’ dresses are hot pink strapless dresses. Their bouquets are hot pink and light pink tiger lillies and calla lillies. I want the groomsmen to wear pink ties and vest, but I don’t know if they should wear black tuxedos or white tuxedos. What do yall think?

Oh yeah, I am getting married August 2008.

And I thought I was the only one that LOVED pink and black!! I’m planning my daisy themed, black and pink, wedding for July 12th, 2008. I have wanted pink and black for so long and now I’m finally getting it! I’m at a loss as to what to do for the groom though. I want the groomsmen to wear the pink tie/vest. But I don’t want my groom to look the same as the groomsmen. Maybe a pink vest with black tie? Or vice versa? I wanted my bridesmaids to wear the pink dresses with an accent of black… but they all want black dresses with pink accents (b/c black is slimming). I don’t want too much black… I want PINK!! So I think they are just going to have to deal with the pink dresses! And for the tables at the reception hall I’m looking at some black silk table cloth with a mirror in the center and pink candle… then I found some black/white/pink confetti to sprink all over the tables. I can’t wait!!!!! Anymore ideas?

Hello !! Well I love all those ideas because I too am having a june 14th 2008 PINK and BLACK wedding. My hubby to be was not as happy about the pink and that is why pink and black it is. I have gone through about 20 different color changes but I am happy not because i never pictured any thing else. He is wearing a black suit with white tie and vest ( so he can match me with the white) and the grooms will be wearing a black suit with a pink vest and tie ( if they love us as a couple they should not complain). The bridesmaids dress are black with a light pink sash. I have bought pink submersible lights to put in the vases with pink flowers for the centerpieces. The favors are black frames from this site. I am not sure what color i should have the bows on the chair, or in the church because i don’t know if this will be to much pink. :D:D

Hi Everyone! I am having a June 14, 2008 wedding. My colors started with wine and a pink colored accent called Tea Rose from Alfred Angelo for the bridesmaids. Since it’s going to be a summer wedding I changed it to sage green with yellow accents, however, I just couldn’t stop thinking about how badly I have always wanted wine with the Tea Rose accent. So I decided to go back to wine and tea rose. My fiance wants to wear a black tux with a white vest and tie so my first question is whether putting the groomsmen in black tuxes with wine vests and ties are too dark for June? (He doesn’t want them in any shade of pink) My second question is regarding the invitations. The tea rose is in between a mauve and pink color. I have looked at hundreds of wedding invitations and have only found one that I really liked. The problem is that it only comes in cotton candy. Would that be tacky if the invitations were not the exact shade of pink as my bridesmaids? Keep in mind that our moms will be in a different shade of pink called Sugar Plum. I am also including pink roses in the reception center pieces. Will all of this be okay?

Deana Thanks for the advice. I think my flower girl is going to wear a black dress with a pink sash but I am having her carry a white flower girl bucket thing can place the word do you think that would look okay. I am just not sure how to plan all of my wedding plans in such little time I guess I am just really worried.

Thanks again

Ednita & Tiffany, I too an having a black and white wedding with hot pink and silveraccents. The bridesmaids are all going to be in black. Ednita, let your bridesmaids pick out their own dresses. Give a guideline for what you want but that way they can buy them and they will also be able to wear them again. That’s what I did with mine. They are all carrying hot pink flowers and wearing hot pink shoes since the dresses are all black. That way there is some color and it doesn’t seem so dark. Tiffany as for your flower girl I would think about a pink dress since the bridesmaids dresses are black. It would be a nice ‘pop’ at the end. I’m not sure what your guys are wearing but if you have a ring bearer and if he’s young enough, mine will be 3, I would put him in a black tux/suit with a hot pink shirt instead or white. I don’t knwo how big of a part you want pink to be in your wedidng but I think that’s a good amount so that it’s not ‘tacky’. As far as ’seasonal weddings’ go, who cares it’s yours and only yours so use pink when and where you want it. Now you might not be able to get your groom in pink but hey that’s okay. Let’s see decorations. I’m planning black and white as the foundation of my deco. with pink and silver accents. Use lots of feathers, candles, and christmas lights. This will give it a soft look and still keep with the ‘holiday season’. I’m assuming your reception is indoors so I suggest watching the reception part of my big fat greek wedding. Look at the wall behind where the couple sits. This would brighten up the room and still keep an elegant feel on the so called ‘punk rock’ colors scheme. (I get the same faces when I say pink and black.) It’s not a hard back drop to create I’ve done it before for a reception. If you like these ideas and need some more I’ll see how I can help! Oh and congrats to you and Ednita!

Hello Everyone!
I just found this website and i think its awesome! I am very interested in having hot pink and black as my wedding colors, most likely this may 08. Does that work? I thought about having my bm in hot pink with black dresses, and my tables with white and hot pink.. any ideas? I am on a very low budget so any nice ideas would be welcome…

Tiffany, another thought for you. If I was planning a pink-theme winter wonderland wedding I would RUN to the nearest store and pick up a copy of the newest (Martha Stewart) Blueprint magazine. It has an absolutely wonderful feature on pink-themed winter wonderland decor with mixed-metal accents.

No black, but lots of clear glass, sparkly crystal, silvery butterflies … and wonderful inexpensive centerpieces that would really wow your guests. Just a great source of ideas whether you end up using them literally or not.

Hi Tiffany put your flower girls in white dresses with either a pink or black waist sash or just put them in sinple white dresses. Here are some wedding cake design websites http://www.enchantedweddingcakes.com or http://www.celebratecakes.com … a friend of mine printed off a cake design from one these websites and took it to a local baker.

I also hope that really consider serving your guest something other then cake and punch because the guest buy cards and gifts and come out for the special day. You could have a family member make party trays or order them from a local deli or walmart things such as fruit and veggie trays and finger sanwhiches ,little cocktail smokies , cheese and crackers, you know just a little something .

Also its up to you if you want an aisle runner I think it will look great to have a black and white monogramed aisle runner with hot pink or pink petals sprinkled over it. Go to http://www.signatureweddingaislerunners.com and view the gallery or portfolio even just sprinkled petals on the floor. Without a runner will look fine also, its up to you, but just view this website anyways and go to http://www.petalgarden.com for silk rose petals or http://www.growersbox.com for fresh. Again i hope this all helps — I love weddings and parties — and let me know what you think of everything and what you decided for your final wedding colors.

My sister has a little black dress already but now the problem is what to put the flower girl in I mean I am not sure. Do you know any cake wedding sites where I could find some designs. Thanks for all your help again. Do you think that it would be a good idea to get one of those runners to place on the floor since the church floor is like a beige color.

Hi Tiffany I see more of what you need help on. Think about dressing you bridal party in black and white girls in black dresses and guys in black tuxes with white tie trim. let the flowers either be Hot pink or Light pink one or the other either light pink roses or Hot pink roses or Gerber Daises. go to growersbox. com to have fresh flowers sent to you or buy silk or go to a florist. buy pew bows to put on the church pews in your choice of color, and order a aisleway runner and sprinkle the aisle runner with either hot pink and light pink rose petals. look for a local party rental store and rent some candlobras or a floral arch.

For the reception you should really consider offereng more thn just cake and punch some Non exspensive ideas are party platters things such as chicken fingers and finger sanwhiches. if you have nearby walmart or Sams go to the Deli and they will make them for you. and for centerpieces buy inexspensive glass vases or flower pots and fill them with pink flowers and surround the larger centerpiece with small votive candles and sprinkle rose petals on the tables.

And Tiffany please visit http://www.ariadress.com its a bridesmaid dress website and I saw some pretty black and Hot Pink dress options. just View there photo album and you will see what im talking about but please visit this site let me know what you think get back with me .

Okay Tabitha see that is the problem I know that I am getting married in the church. I will have about 100 people. The reception will follow at the church but I don’t think we will have dancing since my fiance is not a dancer I think we were talking about just having punch and cake. Also I have not chosen any decorations really because I have not really had a lot of ideas. I wasn’t sure about how I can pull off this black and white them with mainly accents of hot pink. Do you think it would be too much if I had accents of hot pink and baby pink. Thank you for all your help.

Also I was not sure about a theme because my fiance is absolutely no help he just keeps saying it is my day

Hi Tiffany Black bridesmaids dresses will be fine for a winter wedding I thought you were trying to put your bridal party in Hot pink for a winter wedding and I thought that was a little to much boldness with the Hot pink and Black for a winter wedding but if you were to do a black and white theme with different shades of pink Flowers including hints and touches of hot pink to add punch you could pull it off and it could look good . But exactly what type of theme or atmosphere are you going for because all i know so far is that you are having hot pink and black so if you help me see your vision more I can further help you if thats okay.

Is it appropriate to have a black and white theme wedding in January. If so will it work to have my sister which she will be the maid of honor wear a black dress. Does anyone else have some other ideas to pull this theme off…
