Pink Theme Weddings

Ah, pink. Some say a woman's life-long love for pink is biological. Others say it's nothing more than sweet free will.

Either way, for many brides, a wedding isn't the lifelong dream it should be without a hefty dose of pink.

And while the hues we pair with it might change from year to year, pink at its core ... which says young love, playfulness and fresh-faced romance ... sends the same beloved message across the ages.

Still, even pink isn't immune to the forces that, over time, make weddings ever-more personal statements of our own individual design sensibilities ... and love stories.

So while some pink weddings hark back to fairy tales from once-upon-a-time, others are practically punk-rock (you won't see yards of tulle at your typical pink and black wedding). And then there are the unexpected pinks: the ethereal pink and silver, for example, that warm up a modern winter wonderland wedding.

In fact, while pink might not exactly be the new black, it might actually be the new 'neutral' — cozying up gorgeously with all kinds of colors, creating looks that range from demure to drama queen.

pink picks

Pink on Pink, or Pink on White

This bride often loves the classic take on love, with plenty of pale pink rose petals to blanket the aisle. Bridesmaids' attire will probably be on soft side, with lovely sparkling brooches.

This bride might have pink winking out from her engagement ring in the form of pink sapphires, or even a JLo style pink diamond. The shoes might be oh-so-traditional bridal sandals, but sporting a perky bow and a tiny diamante stone — and we'll take bets that she's tracked down a pink satin garter for that leggy moment on the chair.

Her gown? All girl, possibly with elaborate lace overlays or a full ruched skirt. And the hair? We're guessing a half-up/half-down romantic tumble of locks.

Nothing's too feminine for this color scheme, so get out the pink marabou feathers for your chair backs, centerpiece vases or flower girls, go wild with the fluffiest pink poenies your florist can rustle up, wrap everything you can in romantic pink satin ribbons (bouquet stems, waists, pew cones) and don't forget some popular spins on ultra-pink: like the cherry blossom wedding. Want more of a garden look? Carry oversized bunches of bright pink tulips.

Pink and Black

This bride often leans toward bold graphic patterns (no fussy invites here!) ... and bold satin sashes. The bridesmaids' will probably be brightly attired, and you probably won't find her carrying a tight Cinderella posey of pastel roses, but something a little more fiery: hot pink cymbidium orchids, say, or a bouquet of Asiatic lilies. Pink anemones are eye-catching blooms, too, with their wild black centers.

Chances are, this bride's gown will belong to the Vera Wang school of slicked-down designs, and you might find some bright spots of color peeking out from under her gown: gorgeous bridal slingbacks in black or pink. Tabletop florals might be acid-bright clumps of chrysanthemums in a pavée design, or hydrangeas tipped to a deep and assertive hue. The perfect floor: a glossy black and white checkerboard pattern. (Note: black and pink brides might want to see The New Black & White Wedding.)

As for the cake? Black deco dots on a bright white canvas, or clean satin ribbons wrapped around the layers. And don't forget the bright pink signature drink: any take on Cosmos is bound to please.

A lovely spin on the pink and black look is a touch of toile: pink toile stationery topped with sleek black ribbons, or black toile table linens set off with hot pink satin napkins. Also, pink and black candy buffets serve up a sweet taste ... and a distinctively spunky look.

More Ultra-Popular Pink Schemes

Pink and Green Miami Spice. Deliciously Deco. Perfectly Preppy. Or just a natural choice for your spring or summer garden theme.

Picture your bridesmaids in mint green ruffled gowns, carrying sleek bouquets of pink and white mini callas. A snowstorm of pink petals on pale green linens: gorgeous. It's no wonder that that wonder that's pink and green is just starting to rev all the way up, with more brides finding themselves fans by the month.

Pink and Orange Depending on where you live, pink and orange (and all its cousins, like orange and fuchsia) might be practically classic, or delightfully daring. Pink and orange says "no fuss, no frills," and it's all about whimsy, color and clean lines. Pink and orange brides have cooked up all kinds of designs, but a Gerber daisy theme's among the most popular.

Pink and Brown — A less punky cousin of pink and black, this scheme combines two top-dog colors in today's wedding palette with gorgeous results. This is a hipster theme, calling for sassy stationery, big satin bows and grosgrain ribbons, funky polka dots or even modern paisleys.

And your flowers might be something a little left-of-center, too, like flaming pink orchids or Gerbers and bamboo. Somewhere in the process, pink and brown brides often find themselves a little torn between pink + brown or pink + aqua.

I have decided to have fuchsia pink as my wedding color with the bridesmaids in fuchsia dresses and the groomsmen in black tuxedos with fuchsia vests and ties underneath. My flowers are fuchsia and orange calla and tiger lillies. Do yall think that all of this will be pretty? What color should the groomsmen’s boutonierres be? I want to use calla lily flowers, but all I can find are white calla lillies (I am not using real flowers). Will white calla lillies be ok for the groomsmen? Thank you for all of your opinions and advice.

Lindsey — I have a ton of pink & brown photos I haven’t organized yet (my bad!) … in the meantime, here are a few really nice ones!

Whether to put the girls in pink or brown is entirely up to you; it’s a very different look either way. Many brides choose the complementing sash (brown sash with pink dress & vice versa).

HI, does anyone have any suggestions about a pink and brown wedding. I don’t know what to do. Should I have my girls wear pink with brown or brown with pink. If anyone has pictures of a pink and brown wedding that would be lovely. I would love to see them. Open to suggestions. HELP! :D

Hi Ki Ki I agree with you that the color combo is way too much and doesnt really match well together a great idea would be to have your bridal party in Pool blue and ivory and your wedding flowers in Pale pink and ivory if you have your bridesmaids in pool blue dresses with their bouquets maid up of pink and ivory roses that would look nice and if you just prefer to have fushia use it as a accent color like with the ribbon around the bouquets or a mix of pale pink and fushia ,and ivory roses for bouquets and centerpieces but I would leave out the fushia and go with a lighter shade of pink or even a darker pink like tea rose pink just not bright bold fushiaso that way you can still incorporate your favorite color along with his hope this helps let me know what you think?

Kiki, I agree with Tabitha. I think that light pink bouquets would look nice with the pool blue, but the fuchsia may be too much. My color is fuchsia with fuchsia bridemaids dresses and fuchsia and orange bridesmaids bouquets. Fuchsia is a pretty color, but it is a little too bold to go with pool blue. Pool Blue and a lighter pink would be very pretty. Good Luck on the planning. I know it can get nerve-wracking.

Hello!…. Im looking for a LIST of colors that go well with Fuschia pink!.. It seems like all suggestions are the same, everyone is picking Orange, Brown, Black, Green… But I always shy away from those colors 8-| I dont wanna sound extra picky or ungrateful, But at the same time, I need to choose colors that are bright, summery and sure to stand out! I know all the brides can relate to this feeling ( its our wedding day and we just want it to be as BEAUTIFUL as possible :P:? ) Anyways,
My wedding day is July 19th, 08 and its outdoors and early morning… Im still open to all suggestions! Please help with any colors you can think of.. Thanks!:D

Andrea,
I am getting married May of 09 and I am doing a Marie Antoinette inspired wedding.(Think the Kirsten Dunst movie.) My colors are going to be mainly fushia, light pink, and Robins egg blue with small hints of mint, lavender and gold. It sounds like an aweful lot, but used in moderation I think these colors are going to be fabulous. These are a couple of inspiration pictures for these colors.

Hi Gina — this should be fun! Some decor ideas … :-?

Set up a small drink station with pink champagne, cosmos in martini glasses with pink sugar rims, or beautifully bottled French lemonade (Lorina or Le Village, available at any upscale grocery store).

Tuck a few pink blooms with lots of mass (peonies, hydrangea) in silver mint julep cups. Surround with some rose petals (again, cheaply had at some grocery stores/flower shops). OR, make a line down the middle of your table with single pink or coral gerbers in a row of tiny glass cylinders.

Use pink boa trim, which was MADE for bridal showers! If you can get elastic, even easier. Wrap pink marabou trim around pillar candles, votives, stems of champagne glasses, small square flower vases wrapped in raw silk or interesting graphic papers.

Serve beautiful pink macaroons, stacked with other inviting colors (orange, brown, green).

Stack up a display tree with cupcakes topped with heaps of pink fluffy frosting.

Hang paper lanterns in pink and one other accent color (or white) inside, if your ceilings are tall, or from the entrance/porch.

Here’s a fun pink & green bridal shower by a super-creative gal: Messaround’s Bridal Shower

Finally, a few pics! First, some pretty elaborate goodies: a lovely cake by CakeItUp, and a magnificent cupcake tower by Pink Cake Box.

Last, a picture that I think really shows how even simple decorations can look *great* if you tip off your girls and ask them to sort of be part of the decor by wearing pink. This works best for a small, intimate shower.

And one more thing — incredible pink & black bridal shower! You have to see the whole slideshow, it’s amazing.

Love:
the ornate boudoir-style cookie favors …
the black piping and pink feathers on that wedding-worth cake.
hot-pink and coral florals with peacock accents in BLACK urns on satin-draped pedestals! Wow!
The insanely chipper hot pink patio umbrellas.
The black & white dotted grosgrain ribbons & fabrics …

And, the guests in their color-coordinated hats just push it over the top. :D

These next pics are from a GORGEOUS pink & black wedding! The flowers (mainly roses + hydreangeas) used all the pinks, from pastel to hot, plus a range of creams and whites.

Wide and narrow ribbon in pink, hot pink and black dressed up vases, pillar candles, guestbooks and cake, and fluttered down from the venue’s chandeliers (black iron, fitting perfectly into the mod/Parisian look). The black chivari chairs also really POPPED against the pastel pink linens and supported that hint of a turn-of-the-century feel.

The bridesmaids wore black strapless gowns with wide contrasting sashes (some white, some pink) and carried bouquets of roses (again, pale and hot pink) wrapped with long ribbons that matched their sashes. Outside, the patio was decorated with pink and white paper lanterns … just lovely. Hope this helps spark some ideas …

Some pics for pink & black brides! First, some cake, because you can never look at too many cakes.

I think these pics really get across the Frenchie, ‘ooh la la’ feeling that pink & black so easily takes on. It’s hard to beat pink & black for chic appeal.

Pink and Black goes very well together. I was going to do pink and white, but decided against that because I wanted something more bold. My bridesmaid dresses are hot pink, and the groomsmen will wear black tuxedos with hot pink vests and ties. My dress is white, so my fiance is wearing all white under his black tuxedo. My flowers are different shades of pink. I am using tiger lillies, calla lillies, and roses for my flowers. You are totally right, Erika, that pink and black can be done in many ways. Good Luck to you.

I am planning a pastel pink and black wedding for next March. I thought about doing pink and white or pink and silver but I am having a night wedding so I think the black will work great. My bridesmaids will wear a pastel pink dress and the groomsmen will wear black evening tuxedo’s with a pink vest and bow-tie and my fiance will wear the evening tuxedo with a white vest and bow-tie. I don’t want him to look like a groomsman. I think pink and black can be done in so many ways.

Here’s a picture of the bridesmaid dress and bouquet that I have chosen. Do yall think that the bouquet goes with this shade of pink that the bridesmaid dress is? I am scared that the flowers in my bouquet may be too dark for this dress. Thanks in advance for the input.

I am also having a pink and black wedding in 2009. We are not sure what month we keep changing our minds. I am having the bridesmaid wear pink and the groomsmen are wearing all black with a pink tie and vest. Which of course my fiance decided. I had to let him decide on something. The centerpieces are going to be glass ornaments in the colors of pink, black, white and silver inside a glass vase. It is a twist on a typical winter wedding which is what im leading towards. Also our favors are going to be hot cocoa packs, which i thought would be cute with the winter setting. I would love to hear your comments to tell me what you think.

Hi Christian,
i would say that the groomsmen should wear black Tuxedos with pink ties.
All the best with the wedding plans. I know they are very stressful. well they are for me.
