Pink Theme Weddings

Ah, pink. Some say a woman's life-long love for pink is biological. Others say it's nothing more than sweet free will.

Either way, for many brides, a wedding isn't the lifelong dream it should be without a hefty dose of pink.

And while the hues we pair with it might change from year to year, pink at its core ... which says young love, playfulness and fresh-faced romance ... sends the same beloved message across the ages.

Still, even pink isn't immune to the forces that, over time, make weddings ever-more personal statements of our own individual design sensibilities ... and love stories.

So while some pink weddings hark back to fairy tales from once-upon-a-time, others are practically punk-rock (you won't see yards of tulle at your typical pink and black wedding). And then there are the unexpected pinks: the ethereal pink and silver, for example, that warm up a modern winter wonderland wedding.

In fact, while pink might not exactly be the new black, it might actually be the new 'neutral' — cozying up gorgeously with all kinds of colors, creating looks that range from demure to drama queen.

pink picks

Pink on Pink, or Pink on White

This bride often loves the classic take on love, with plenty of pale pink rose petals to blanket the aisle. Bridesmaids' attire will probably be on soft side, with lovely sparkling brooches.

This bride might have pink winking out from her engagement ring in the form of pink sapphires, or even a JLo style pink diamond. The shoes might be oh-so-traditional bridal sandals, but sporting a perky bow and a tiny diamante stone — and we'll take bets that she's tracked down a pink satin garter for that leggy moment on the chair.

Her gown? All girl, possibly with elaborate lace overlays or a full ruched skirt. And the hair? We're guessing a half-up/half-down romantic tumble of locks.

Nothing's too feminine for this color scheme, so get out the pink marabou feathers for your chair backs, centerpiece vases or flower girls, go wild with the fluffiest pink poenies your florist can rustle up, wrap everything you can in romantic pink satin ribbons (bouquet stems, waists, pew cones) and don't forget some popular spins on ultra-pink: like the cherry blossom wedding. Want more of a garden look? Carry oversized bunches of bright pink tulips.

Pink and Black

This bride often leans toward bold graphic patterns (no fussy invites here!) ... and bold satin sashes. The bridesmaids' will probably be brightly attired, and you probably won't find her carrying a tight Cinderella posey of pastel roses, but something a little more fiery: hot pink cymbidium orchids, say, or a bouquet of Asiatic lilies. Pink anemones are eye-catching blooms, too, with their wild black centers.

Chances are, this bride's gown will belong to the Vera Wang school of slicked-down designs, and you might find some bright spots of color peeking out from under her gown: gorgeous bridal slingbacks in black or pink. Tabletop florals might be acid-bright clumps of chrysanthemums in a pavée design, or hydrangeas tipped to a deep and assertive hue. The perfect floor: a glossy black and white checkerboard pattern. (Note: black and pink brides might want to see The New Black & White Wedding.)

As for the cake? Black deco dots on a bright white canvas, or clean satin ribbons wrapped around the layers. And don't forget the bright pink signature drink: any take on Cosmos is bound to please.

A lovely spin on the pink and black look is a touch of toile: pink toile stationery topped with sleek black ribbons, or black toile table linens set off with hot pink satin napkins. Also, pink and black candy buffets serve up a sweet taste ... and a distinctively spunky look.

More Ultra-Popular Pink Schemes

Pink and Green Miami Spice. Deliciously Deco. Perfectly Preppy. Or just a natural choice for your spring or summer garden theme.

Picture your bridesmaids in mint green ruffled gowns, carrying sleek bouquets of pink and white mini callas. A snowstorm of pink petals on pale green linens: gorgeous. It's no wonder that that wonder that's pink and green is just starting to rev all the way up, with more brides finding themselves fans by the month.

Pink and Orange Depending on where you live, pink and orange (and all its cousins, like orange and fuchsia) might be practically classic, or delightfully daring. Pink and orange says "no fuss, no frills," and it's all about whimsy, color and clean lines. Pink and orange brides have cooked up all kinds of designs, but a Gerber daisy theme's among the most popular.

Pink and Brown — A less punky cousin of pink and black, this scheme combines two top-dog colors in today's wedding palette with gorgeous results. This is a hipster theme, calling for sassy stationery, big satin bows and grosgrain ribbons, funky polka dots or even modern paisleys.

And your flowers might be something a little left-of-center, too, like flaming pink orchids or Gerbers and bamboo. Somewhere in the process, pink and brown brides often find themselves a little torn between pink + brown or pink + aqua.

juliana, if you are having a beach or casual/informal wedding, then put groom and gm in(black, dark grey or deep taupe slacks and white shirts.)or a great suit with colored tie. keep suits in black, charcoal, or for the beach a great deep taupe. but overall my fave is the simple black suit and white tie( from link below) it looks soooo good!!(with fuschia boutonniere)

i would put bm in fushia with fuschia and yellow bouquets and greenery tied with a wider ribbon in olive green then turn it around and do olive green and white reception with fuschia and yellow centerpieces. i think this would look great for the wedding style. i think your girls would be happier in fuschia. but let them try on the yellow and olive. the color should make them glow as well and happy. go with a simple dress in a wear again style. just in case they like the other colors here are some boards. it really depends on if you love subtle or bold party.

* Garden party on the beach ( i am completely in love with how the deep green pops against fuschia wow!! what a statement!! now if they wore olive and carried this with darker greenand yellow flowers tied with olive ribbon, i think it would be amazing!!especially to use shades of a green from light to dark.)

* Wild Flower Party / Wedding Theme ( this one i love the bouquet and the centerpiece and see how it looks against the green dress, it does look wonderful!!)

* Pink & Yellow Wedding Theme

* Fuschia and orange wedding ( again replace orange with yellow)

* Fuschia and Orange

bisola, i couldnt find alot of stuff but maybe the links will help, if not then you can ask bridal stores where they could tye dye a skirt, if the fabric will work. or find a seamstress i just read that organza etc. tie dyes really easy. if you have a dress with waist (not aline) or empire waisted dress you could sew a beautiful floating outerlay to dress. if you still cant find anything tie dye runners, etc. and tie you bouquet with tie dye organza and have a trailing ribbons over front of gown from bouquet.

* Tie Dye / Afrocentric Gowns ( not exactly from waist down but a good website also provided pic i posted)

i am too having a hot pink wedding. and here are a few ideas that might help you ladies. flower balls are very popular this season and you can make them your self, they are a unique detail that can add class to your wedding decor. you just need to buy silk flowers and a foam ball and put the flowers in the foam ball. you can get this at walmart or meijers for cheap.
paper lanterns are another way to make your wedding unique and beautiful i am using them also. you can buy them at beau-coup.com

i also have fuschia chair sashes for sale total 125 if any one is interested please contact me.

I’m interested in the fuschia chair sashes. My color is Azalea but I think fuschia is pretty close in color. The only problem is I’ll probably need more than 125. Maybe I could get the rest locally though. Out of curiousity how much are they?

Dawn P.
wrote

Hi Trish, so many options! Depending on what the groomsmen will let you get away with!

Have a really cooperative bunch, look into chocolate brown tuxes with pink ties, very smart. Or let’s say they are MUCH more conservative. You can put them in something that doesn’t seem to match, like a black tux and a neutral waistcoat/tie (a pearly, neutral gray is great here) and because of the neutrality, they will form a handsome background to your color scheme without taking away from it at all.

Of course, if they will go chocolate, any of those brown-on-brown combos (choc tux, mocha vests/ties) will also look great. HTH!

I am helping plan a cousins Quinceanera. It is not until next May. So I have started buying decorations(all my responsibility) I am getting balloons from http://www.promnite.com(144ct for around 20 bucks plus shipping and handling) and I am doing feather vases and the lowest eiffel tower vases i could find were at http://www.flowersandsupplies.com. Her colors are turquoise and lime green, and her theme is butterflies. I wanted to know where to get some white butterflies so that i could paint them her colors and sprinkle in glitter. I need alot so anything would help. And i also got an idea to do a candy buffet from some of the comments I read on this website.

Khristene,

Gray is one of my favorite colors! And, with it being so up-and-coming I suspect pink and gray will be huge over the next few years (but you did it first) ;)

I love the urban feel of gray, it’s so city, almost Scandinavian, and so delicate and dreamy when you pair it with pale pinks. When you add in the ruffled organza and peonies, the lace overlays and vintage stationery scrolls, you have a look that is very Degas, a look that is hard to pull off with weddings but seems pretty effortless with this palette.

Here are a few inspiration boards that really go to town on pink & gray, if you haven’t seen these already they should make for great browsing!

pink & gray

These boards are by In This Instance, Minted, Elizabeth Anne Designs (click links to see full boards)

I think peach and green are natural choices for adding little pops and accents to this palette.

I’m planning a garden themed wedding for September 2008. Time is short and I’m starting to think that my original color scheme may be too much. I am going with pale (not pastel) pink and chocolate brown with a hint of green (sage). I have tons of ribbon and Save the dates have been sent out with those colors. Dresses are pink with chocolate brown sashes. I can’t figure out how to work in the green with the tuxedos that will make it work with the dresses. I was thinking of green vests and ties for the tuxedos and the bridesmaids will carry bouquets with lots of green in them…would that work? Or should i eliminate the green with the dresses and tuxedos and just let the ‘garden’ play the green role?

Desiree, I think that you should just let the green play as a background\accent color and keep the green with the whole garden theme like with the bridemaids bouquets, floral arrangements, and boutineers, and any ribbon accents you may have and keep your bridal party dressed in your 2 main colors the pink and brown.

‘Kay, we have a lot of pink & black brides here! I was going to try to point out some great inspiration boards, but I didn’t really find many in pink & black that flipped my skirt. So instead here are some pics I scratched up on my own that seemed pretty helpful. I skipped the cakes because cakes are so easy to find … table ideas, harder!

Pink & Black

A few more. Lucia, you said you were thinking polka dots or patterns, so I grabbed a few. The top row was originally green/brown or pink/green … which looked a bit odd, so I gave it that dorky pink screen.

Row 1: Polka dot seating cards and favor boxes, Brides. Polka-dotted bridesmaid gowns and graphical cake, Beth & Kenny in San Francisco, TheKnot. Row 2: Children’s Museum Gala, BBJ Linens. Awesome "Paris Birdcage" favor tags, Digital Paperie@Etsy. And finally, two really cool pink/black inspiration boards I came across after almost giving up hope by Snippet & Ink: the first one, pale blush pink and black (very Parisian); the second, Punk Rock love. These are great.

:D I am planning a black & hot pink wedding for May of 2009, BUT I want to use a zebra stripe theme. I am having trouble finding zebra stripe wedding pieces. I have the bridesmaids dresses picked out, will be black & carry pink flowers. Groomsmen will wear black tux with pink corsages. I’m not sure where I want the zebra strip theme to come in except the save the date cards (looking like I will have to design my own), invitations (also might have to design), and cake. You could add some orange flowers in your floral bouquets, or you could accent you wedding and reception with silver to make it more elegant. Are your bridesmaid dresses fuchsia or black?

Christian,

I did forget to mention that I am using silver as the accent color but I haven’t really used it much in very many things. My bridesmaids are wearing fuschia with black (the black is ify still…) the MOH’s (I have 2) are wearing black with fuschia or maybe just black… I really like the idea about putting orange in my bouquet. I’m just a visual person so I need to see it. Here’s a picture of what my bouquet is going to look like except in a brighter/hot pink. What do you think?

Hi Lucia I think your bouquet is going to be very nice and vibrant in color and to help you out I like the idea of your bridesmaids in fushia with hints of black and your maid of honors in full on black it would also look nice to have your bridesmaids in just fushia and your maids of honors in black with fushia or fushia with black but my favorite would be to have your bridesmaids in fushia and maids of honor in fushia with accents of black so that way they all look elegant and well coordinated but the black accents will set the maids of honors apart .

Christian, I really like the idea about orange in the bouquet. I’m not too fond of roses so I’m using lillies and some fillers. My bouquet is going to be the same as the photo except in pinks most likely hot bright pinks. I forgot to mention that I am using silver as an accent color. I just haven’t managed to use it very much. The bm’s are going to wear fuschia and the MOH (I have 2) will be wearing Black.

You have a pretty bouquet. I think that orange will make the bouquet “Pop.” My bridesmaids are wearing fuchsia dresses with fuchsia and orange bouquets. I am using tiger and calla lilies with some fillers in it. Silver is my accent color, but I haven’t used it too much either. I had thought about adding silver maybe to my favors or something like that. I had thought about doing black dresses for the bridesmaids, but I wanted to have a lot of color so I decide to have them in fuchsia instead of black. The groomsmen will be in black tuxedos with fuchsia vests and ties underneath. My husband to be is in a black tuxedo with all white underneath.

Hello Lucia,

My reception will be set up with round tables with white tablecloths and fuchsia table toppers on top of the white tableclothes. I am having floral arrangements in the center that are in short vases. The vases are sitting on mirrors. Either roses will be sprinkled around the base of the vase or tea light candles. I am going to have menu cards at each place setting. The wedding party table will have a white table cloth with a fuchsia runner down the middle.

That sounds pretty. I am trying to do something different but it seems like what I’m doing is also being done by some other brides who have gotten married in the past few months. I also wanted to do a candy bar but my friend just did one so I really don’t want to take her idea. I need something else to spice up my reception. I need ideas for centerpieces! I’m running low.

Hi Lucia some great different ideas aside from having a candy bar would be to do a dessert station just have a table set up with cute finger friendly desserts such as mini cupcakes ,cookies, bite size brownies, mini cheesecakes to name a few, or rent a cotton candy machine and do pink cotton candy for the guest ,or do a chocolate fondue fountain with trays of fruit and marshmellows for dipping .

I’m having fuschia and black also. We are adding white as an accent color. Our guest tables are black silk with fuschia rose petals all over them and then we have heart shaped glass bowls with heart shaped floating candles. Then our cake, food, gift, and wedding party tables are white with black and pink rose petals.

The BM bouquets are a light pink and dark pink. Then mine is dark pink, light pink, and white. (Daisies)

Angie,

I need help! My wedding is August 23rd and I’m unsure of my wedding colors. At first I wanted sage or celedon green and pink, but now I’m thinking of chocolate & pink or fuchsia & orange. Any suggestions?

Ashley,

My first choice for my wedding was pink and chocolate. My fiance’ said that chocolate was a no go for him. I am currently having fuchsia and orange as my colors. Fuchsia is my main color with fuchsia and orange flowers. The bridesmaids are wearing fuchsia dresses with fuchsia and orange bouquets. The guys are wearing black tuxedos with fuchsia ties and vests underneath. I just ordered my invitations and they are so cute to me. Either way you do it, it will be very pretty. Pink and green is also a good combination. Hot pink is a popular color this year too. I don’t think you can go wrong with pink and any combination.
