Daisy Theme Weddings

There's reason behind the old saying, "fresh as a daisy."

Because when brides of all ages want to express the youthful side of love, nothing beats the daisy in all its guises: from the traditional Shasta, with its echoes of nostalgia and innocence, to the practically-punk Gerber and its contemporary colors.

Shasta Daisy Style

coral daisies wedding wreath No other flower says "young love" like the Shasta daisy, with its cheery face and paper-white petals. Dear to blushing brides everywhere, the Shasta begs for sayings like, "he loves me, he loves me not — he loves me ... we tied the knot!"

Silhouettes and textures that suit the shasta to a 'tee': eyelet and cotton fabrics. And gowns with a retro-style bell skirt and slender waist, or chic tea-lengths, worn with a flyaway veil.

Reedy, youthful brides look gorgeous in a simple A-line or column style — especially against vibrant greens of a garden or park.

The Shasta also plays well with white organza bows and delicate pastels like lavender, mint green, or baby-chick yellow. They look lovely paired with pastel roses, and in hand-tied bouquets dressed up with pink or yellow satin wraps.

They're a bit fragile, though, so resort to silks for anything like a pomander ball, anything without a water source, or anything your flower girl might carry around.

Gerber Daisy Drama

Gerbers are the Vivienne Westwoods of the flower world. The brides who love them also love design, and modern shocks of color. The most popular palette for Gerber-lovers is probably bright pink and orange. A close second might be pink and green. For Autumn brides, fiery combinations of yellow, orange and red set the scene.

But brides are also designing around Gerbers' purples, peaches and sultry magentas. And let's not forget that Gerbers really pop against dark brown and black (both super-popular shades for bridesmaids' attire. Coincidence?)

All Dolled Up With Daisies

Here are some adorable things we've seen done with daisies: floating gerber daisies

Wheatgrass Trays

That rich explosion of green makes daisies look fabulous, whether they're white or fuchsia. Take note: the fragile stems need to be wired!

Floating Heads

Single Shasta flower heads floating in votives or shot glasses: adorable. Larger Gerber heads can sometimes fill a whole fishbowl: finish the look with a bright satin ribbon. Or toss these blooms en masse in fountains or pools.

Flashy Splashes

The brightest gerbers call for dramatic echoes elsewhere in your event. Dress your bridesmaids in bright dupioni sashes (salmon or tangerine, say). Swag the ceilings with shiny fabrics to match. Wrap each cake layer in bold, patterned ribbons. Rustle up tangerine parasols and saturated linens and chair covers. Serve a menu of signature drinks in each of your Gerber colors!

pink & chocolate gerber wedding

pink & orange wedding candy

Ribbons on Ribbons

Pick a bright palette to match your favorite Gerber daisies, then wrap your vases and votive holders in several layers of ribbon of different widths. For example, layer a bright orange inch-wide satin ribbon over a corrugated two-inch-wide fuchsia ribbon.

Fruit and Flowers

Choose Gerbers of a citrusy hue, then fill your centerpiece containers with sliced lemons, limes or oranges in bright, coordinating colors.

Back to Basics

Just because you love all-white doesn't mean you have to pass on Gerbers: they come in bridal white, too. And with their oversized heads, they've got all the charm of Shastas, plus a fresh and modern spin.

Rustic Roots

Gerbers and Shastas alike can add rustic punch to any affair. Just combine them with a little raffia or twine, birds' nest bouquet collars, galvanized pails, or gingham and mason jars.

Hi, I’m getting married October 2, 2010. I am having my girls is chocolate brown and my dress is ivory. My colours for the hall are brown and cream. Now I have a vision of having the flowers “pop.” I am thinking of having reds, oranges, and yellows in the bouquet. I am deffinatly going to be using gerber daises.. I’m just not sure how they will look together or how to arrange them (my aunt is making them) I also want to put red rose in my bouquet to set apart from the other girls. I hope that someone can help. Thanks!

Amanda,
i think it would be beautiful to float both types of flower heads in glass bowls. or you could do long stem arrangements of 1 white rose and a few gerberas in a slender vase. you could get cylinder vases and submerge a white rose then have VERY small glass cylinders and have gerberas sitting around the tall centerpiece. one more idea is to submerge 2 gerberas and 1 single white rose in cylinders. top with floating candle.

I was having issues with centerpieces as well, but didn’t want alot of glass or water, so I have opted for paper lanterns with the battery operated bulbs and scattering the fresh flower heads on the table. And to pick this all up I am doing daisy wrapped napkins for an added touch. My colors are hot pink, tangerine, lime and aqua and the gerbera’s will be so pretty and understated on the tables! Congrats!

My wedding is in May 2010 and I have no idea what I’m doing. (Although I did finally get my dress) It’s going to be a wedding on the beach followed by a reception on the lawn of a rental house just about 70 yards from the beach. So far I’ve decided to use a color similar to some found in sea glass (blues/greens) but I haven’t narrowed it down yet. I want to use shasta daisies but I’m not sure how to incorporate the daisy them along with beach theme. Any ideas? Photos are also much appreciated! Especially ideas relating to table settings. I’m going for the casual look with just the right touch of “beachy”. Thanks so much!!!

Hi, I am getting married May 2010. My flowers are going to be shasta daisies and some sort of burnt orange flower. My girls will be wearing burnt orange. my dress is ivory and burnt orange detailing. I want to make my own centerpieces, but not sure what to do. I would like something that is not too tall. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am getting married October 9, 2010 in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. I have decided on having my two matrons of honor (yep…I’m having two!) wear a horizon blue color dress that is about knee length, and I am planning on having the rest of my bridesmaids wear a Sangria purple dress(kinda like a plum purple color…actually planning having them wear the same dress, just in different colors!). Sounds weird, but it seems to look good! my question is, i am really set on having gerbera daisies, as this is my favorite flower…only problem is, i can’t seem to find any blue or purple gerbera daisies that match. any other colors would work? i don’t want to be clashing too much!

spin that colorwheel ! Incorporate your complimentary colors. Have your girls greet your guests and stand by your side with bright gerbera faces in yellow (with the plum dresses) and orange (with the blue dresses), sash ‘em up with satin or silk ribbon a shade or two lighter than the dress - maybe some wee blossoms of white or plum/blue with the gerberas - I think would just pop :love2:

Hello! We are having a wedding June 2010 in Colorado! We have already decided to have our colors be black and white big polka dots with fuscia! I am set on having gerber daisies as my flowers….I have a couple of ideas on how to really dress it up but I do NOT want any bm or groomsmen wearing polka dots! I just want that to be an added flavor for the reception and hints of ribbon and such at the wedding ceremony. Any cool ideas of how to incorporate polka dots and bright pink gerber daisies? Do you think I need an additional color to add some substance (maybe light pink)? We are soooo excited and thrilled to do something VERY different - it will not be over the top, but it WILL be classy! :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks-

hi, i’m getting married July 18th, 2010. I know that I want my flowers to be the Red Gerbera Daisy. I was thinking of haveing my bridesmaid wear some sort of cream colored dress, maybe a champaigne color with a sash or some sort of red accent on the dress. will this wirk together? i want the dresse to be short like knee legnth or below the knee…
I was thinking of using the red daisy as the centerpiece and also using the orange gerber dausy favor boxes. I think the BM bouquet will have the red and orange daisy and I will use only the red daisy bouquet.

Help. Does this sound nice?

I am the sister in law to be and I helping the bride with creating the bridal party flowers. The wedding is Aug 29, 2009 - we don’t have much time!! The bm dresses are chocolate brown and the bride wants pink as the accent color, the groom however is concerned about the pink for the gm flower and having a pepto bismol wedding. I was thinking a brighter pink/fushia gerbera daisy with green hydrangea for the bm bouquets. But will it look ok if the bride carries a solid bouquet of white shasta daisies or do I need to incorporate some yellow into the bm? For the gm I was thinking white shasta daisies or a green hydrangea bunch for the lapel flower. Any pictures, suggestions, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also we are planning on using silk flowers so if anyone has some trusted websites that would be great.
Thank you

I can’t decide on bm dress colors either pink (David’s Bridal- Watermelon) brown ( DB truffle) or a champagne. I do like the idea of different pink on pink bouquets. I just don’t won’t the brown to darken my spring wedding. I was thinking maybe doing more pink and then accent with brown here and there. but then I could do a lighter pink and go with sort of a khaki suit for the gm.

kelly,
i found these links i thought were beautiful… you can substitute the roses for pink and white hydrangeas while the girls carry gerbera daisies tied with brown ribbon.
*wedding ( this will show the girls in the pink with guys in the tan beautiful and light) i would have all greenery centerpieces to pull in springtime and axe using flowers on the table i LOVE the green in the pink and brown polka dot containers so spring like)
*gorgeous wedding ( OMG! this is B-eau-T-ful!!!)
*Our Spring Wedding
*Pink Bouquets and Dresses

this is how i would choose the color for the bm dress. if you have either brown or champagne have a darker suit for guys with champagne vests or ties. if you have the pink have the lighter suits. i personally am torn cause they all look great! if you want a more light hearted feel to the wedding put the girls in the pink/light suits guys. if you want more elegance put them in the brown or champagne ( check it on their skintone; champagne is tough to wear washing out most skintones) brown will probably be better to enhance. i am am worried about the truffle. i think that shade is gonna be tough, i cant tell if its a creamy brown? or a ruddy brown? if going with brown i would consider a rich chocolate.

kelly,
i went back and looked at the dress colors. you could meet in the middle with the latte( if it flatters skintones). this way you could do either the light suits or the dark on the guys. to me the color is like mixing the champagne with a little brown. it is a beautiful color. so is the mocha. just a thought.

Hi Kelly,
I would like to start off by saying that I’m an event planner, and we try to focus on classy not trashy. I know you want classy for your wedding. Well….I went to a wedding where Gerber Daisies were used, and it was a cute idea, except in terms of the decorations. The bride decided that she wanted all the decorations to be all different colored gerber daisies but with artificial flowers. she also wanted these bunches to be plastered EVERYWHERE we’re talking all the walls, all the surfaces that she could, she stuck these daisies of all colors around. It looked cheap and hideous! Now I have nothing against daisies, or going multicolored, except you should try to stick with about 2-3 colors in the same spectrum on the color wheel. This idea would have worked out okay even with the artificial flowers if she had stuck with just 2-3 colors. Instead she had hot pink, hot orange, bright yellow, and dark purple. Ewww. It still would have worked even then if she had placed all the colors with white, and left out the dark purple. But somehow it didn’t. I think what happened is that she stuck the orange and the purple together, and it totally clashed. It looked like Halloween. Okay for October, but not for early March. She also did not include any greenery in her floral arrangements. I do florals too, and I’ve found that the flowers tend to look cheap often times, if you don’t include a little green in them. (on the tables, or overarchways etc. )
Personally I would go with about 3 colors of the daisy that compliment each other. Such as the white, yellow and orange. Or yellow, orange, and pink. You could also go with light or hot pink, and white daisies, and the brown to accent with satin ribbons on the chairs, or napkins, or table signs. I would use the brown as an accent, and the white daisies and pink hydrangeas you picked as your main color splashes. You could also have your attendants wear chocolate brown and carry white daisies with the pink hydrangeas. I’ve seen several photos of that type online, and it’s really cute. You could also try having a chocolate frosted cake with pink hydrangeas and white daisies to top it off. Don’t try the brown tulle whatever you do-it does not come out looking cute. -Trust me on that one. Stick with satin ribbon if you want the brown color in there, and do pink or white tulle accents. I hope this helps you!

I also was planning on a May 2010 spring wedding with neon color gerber daisy’s, I have already talked to friends and have decided on just 3 colors now, one of them being green as you suggested. Well, now I have to postpone my wedding till August of 2010. I hope those colors will be ok. i really don’t want to change my colors (fuschia, lt. blue, cream and green as an accent color) just because of the month. I plan on silk for the decorations and real for the bouguets/corsages. I am wanting a somewhat simple deco of gerbers for the tables.

Hi Kelly -
I am also getting married May 2010 and am doing chocolate and pink. I am using DB Watermelon for my bm dresses and my moh is wearing DB truffle. My gm are going very casual with khakis, sandals, and truffle colored long-sleeved dress shirts un-tucked and my groom in a white shirt, khakis, and sandals. My gm are getting mini pink gerbs with some greenery for their lapel flowers. I am using different shades of pink gerbs and mini gerbs for my bouquets and nothing else. I am also using different shades of pink and some white faux gerbs for my centerpieces. I think part of making your wedding “Springy” is making it simple. My centerpieces are going to be 3 faux gerbs in different shades of pink and white in a tall cylinder vase with only a little water and some pink and brown glass shards. Each vase will also be sitting on a mat that I’m making using circular pieces of mirror all placed together like a puzzle. I don’t have any pictures of this, but I’ve seen it done using purple and red at another wedding and it looked amazing!!

Hi Jenni,
Don’t bother trying to dye silk flowers. That’s waaaayy too much work going there. Plus they usually look cheap and ugly in the end. I would just stick with white or pink flowers, and accent the ribbons and other little details with the seafoam green. For another touch Michaels Crafts stores carries seafoam colored petals in their bridal section for the aisle or for the table tops. The key to artificial flowers is in the amount and types of greenery you use. If the greenery looks realistic, then the rest of it will too. I’ve even used flowers from the Dollar store before and accented with the greenery, and they looked good. You should check out flower websites like Pro flowers, and FTD.com, and try to copy their arrangements for weddings. That’s how I’ve had mine turn out so good, because I use the same flowers and colors, and just match up the picture with the real thing online. It works every time.

Don’t put chenille in the Gerbera’s. Make sure they are well hydrated. You can wire them if you are nervous about them getting floppy.

miranda,
hi, google image gerbera daisy wedding then gerbera daisy wedding board. (also google search) go to theknot.com under wedding photos it will take you to wedding galleries. one is flowers;daisies. check it out. you can also look at different colors to see what appeals to you. now google image blue and green wedding board. hopw you find something!! i will tell you a beautiful combo for daisies and that is brown and hot pink or yellow. it looks soooo good!! you can add a bit of whimsy with polka dot invites, polka dot ribbon on favor bags, around the cake, bouquets. stripes work too! another color scheme is blue with hot pink gerberas. the sky is the limit. one more to google image is gerbera daisy theme wedding. switch it up to get different results.

White gerbera daisies next to blues and greens would look really pretty!! It’s funny that Stacey mentioned theknot.com because one of the pictures under gerbera daises is of some bridesmaids in a light blue w/ white gerbera daisies, and it looks REALLY pretty! If you want something with more color, you could go with a lighter pink or something. Just a thought :)

Kay,

I did a country western theme for my son’s reception. I used blue mason jars with raffle tied around them and used rhod. in them. You could use daisies or gerber daises with something green from the yard. Fern or a shrub. I used gavalnized tubes for ice and drinks. Baskets for food. I used bandannas for napkins. You can get them for $1 a dollar stores and I found some material and made some. I purchased some cheap denim material (look for denim tablecloths, etc that are cheap) and made squares about 36 x 36 and put them diagonly in the middle of a long 8 to 10 foot table that was covered with a white sheet. I used cowboy hats around and turned them up and placed a bowl in them and served out of them. Don’t use too many. If you are using certain colors, spray paint your galanized tubs whatever color you wish. Red is great! Remember that $1 can of spray paint with do wonders on thrift finds. Look for cheap saddle blanket finds. Throw them over a chair or bale of hay. Find an old milk can about two feet tall that old timers put their milk out to sell. Spray paint it and put tall flowers or sticks in it. When I used the bandana napkins, most people took them home with them as a favor.

Gerber Daisies are amazing when floated! They are beautiful flowers and float perfectly - I would definitely recommend real, as artificial flower colors can sometimes bleed or lose their color when submersed. Plus, it’s probably safer for the pool to use real flowers if one should get caught in the filter!! :-)

Silk will not float but, real ones will. It may be a little expensive to just float flowers. Maybe check into floating some candles and flowers.

My worry is the chlorine. I’d test it out as soon as you open your mom’s pool for the summer to make sure they last.

I am a floral designer and I have seen novelty daises (not gerbera) that have been dyed blue…however, if you are wanting to use blue why not opt for a blue container–such as a cobalt blue square glass container or a clear glass container, use water and add in blue marbles or rocks. I have never tried to dye gerbera daises, but I come from the school that if it didn’t come from nature, don’t mess with it!

We were able to pick up silk daisies at Michael’s and Hobby Lobby for 50% off. We are also having a July Wedding and thought the silk would stand up to the Missouri heat.

Hi Girls,
I’ve been reading your posts about gerbera daisy themes, so I thought I would share my ideas. I am getting married on 8/1/09. My maids are waring lime green (don’t freak, it’s an awesome shade and looks fantastic against their tan skin) and they will be carrying bright bold bunches of hot colored gerbera daisies, primarily yellow, orange, and hot pink. I am also taking extra fabric from the gowns and wrapping the stems in that green shade.

My centerpieces are going to be high/low combos with slices of citrus fruit then bright gerbera and other tropical bouquets arranged on top. I am so excited!

Any other ideas, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks

hi heather, google image daisy wedding centerpiece (ideas!!) also gerbera daisy wedding centerpiece then gerbera daisy wedding.

* Pics of simple bouquets

* Real Weddings: Lauren + Craig 5.24.08

* A Pink, Orange & Green Wedding! With Adorable Gerbera Daisies!

* Nikki & Tommy in Lancaster, PA

* Lissa & Jason in Annandale, VA

* Michele & Nick in Wrightsville, PA

* i think a single gerbera daisy would be stunning and affordable! just pick a blemish free bloom with dark center to give contrast, for xtra pop add simple green grasses to the flower with a beautiful bow and trailing ribbon. if you do decide to use more blooms(i would choose 3min.-5 max.) my art teacher taught me to keep it an odd number, she said apply that to any decor in groupings. hope this helps!!

This daisy wedding is just so sweet with the swiss dots on the cake and that gorgeous bouquet with the chocolate cosmos and pale yellow roses setting off the daisies. Great inspiration for our Shasta daisy brides.

It’s all perfect for their low-key but chic outdoor wedding … the groom wore chocolate brown, the bridesmaids pale yellow. :D Check out the whole set while you’re there, what a lovely couple, and they posted the pro pics god bless ‘em! See LemonJenny’s Wedding

Hi Sarah!

Your event is going to be great. Pour a cup of coffee, I have lots of thoughts, this was a lot of fun to think about!

OK, Brides did that Something Pink event for breast cancer, wrote it up in last Nov/December’s magazine. They did not say much about the party in there but did show some delicious pink wedding gowns. You can see those online here.

Now, for an actual Pink Ribbon theme wedding, check out Susan & Jeff’s wedding. A must-see.

Susan’s daughters (bridesmaids) wore beautiful white dresses with a pink floral motif. Susan, a beautiful halter-top pink evening gown in pale pink with pink embroidery. The men were in black, with black vests and pink ties (note - good choice. This keeps the guys from looking like pink bunnies when they throw off their jackets five minutes after pics.) She had lovely Pink Ribbon cookies and a pink champagne fountain.

OK, a few more ideas: serve pink drinks: pink champagne, rose or blush wines (oh yes there are GOOD ones these days), there is even a funky wine called Pink with very cute bottles. For non-drinkers serve pink lemonade in the iced tea jars or the chic Lorina sparkling lemonade in the glass bottles.

Use pink in surprising places: bright pink cake interior, pink shoes, even a pink gown. Pink carnations make amazing structures. They look so chic that way. You can put them under placecards like in the photo, or surround the cake stand for example.

You don’t have to go ONLY pink and white with this theme, but I feel brighter colors are better complements: like pale orange or green. Avoid choc brown or black so it won’t look at all mournful.

Check out Martha Stewart’s famous hanging tissue paper flowers, these look really great with gerber themes.
She gives you the full how-to. Would look smashing if you use white and different shades of pink.

Oh, and since this is a favors site I would be quite remiss if failing to mention our small but nice Pink Ribbon favor collection (10% of cost donated).

OK, take a look at the pics attached and see what you think! I hope this helps! Let me know!

Hi Sarah,
I recently made satin fabric tassles for a wedding. The scheme was pink and green, but I made a pink tassle for the ladies room door. It was no mistaking where they should go. I have only one pink tassle, but I made centerpieces with a tassle above a satin basket with a daisy flower on it. I don’t have a photo of that yet, but here is a photo of the tassle. I could make more if you need them.
I know it is a little naughty, but there are other uses for tassles….and your theme is for cancer awareness!! I also have quite a few gerbers if anyone is interested.

Fawn, that is bear grass, it is really popular for creating that modern-looking loop effect over a hand-tied bouquet. I’m not sure where you are, but here we have a grocery store called Wegmans which has very upscale floral section in every store and you can usually buy it there. Ask your grocery store florists.

If you don’t have something like that talk to a more specialized florist and see what they can do. A few blocks away from here there’s one who gets regular FTD deliveries and will order you just about anything for next day, maybe that’s an option. You can also order it online from the bulk flower sellers like FiftyFlowers. HTH! :D

Thanks…now does the bear grass automatically loop like that or do you have to loop it from the middle out and when I floral tape the boquet, i would put the grass to stay looped??

Fawn, there’s actually a video on YouTube that’s all about how to add bear grass to your bouquet. It shows what the grass looks like when you buy it, and how to shape it and tape it into place. Brief but good. Check this out:

I’m so excited to find people planning as far in advance as I am! Everytime I go to a local store they look at me like I’m crazy because our wedding is almost a year away! (07-25-09) Our colors are hot pink and a “teal” color. I’ve already ordered lots of stuff, and found MANY websites I really like. I just received centerpiece vases from save-on-crafts.com and cb2.com, as well as gerbera daisy’s from save-on-crafts.com. I’ve ordered almost everything else, napkins, groomsman’s mugs, bubbles, and camera’s from theknot.com (they have sales all the time and when you catch ‘em it’s great deals.) For real flowers I found theflowerexchange.com. I did find bridesmaid dresses on therosedress.com that I loved, but ended up going through the local bridal shop here due to the deal she gave me if I got everything through here, and those are Mori Lee dresses, I’m getting them for my maids for $100.00. Also oriental trading has lots too. Now I am needing ideas on invitations! I’m thinking I’m going to do a DIY kit, has anyone found any cool ones? And what about bridesmaid gifts? I have no idea, they are all so different!

I am getting 80 invitations with response cards & return addressed envelopes for a little over $200. They will allow you to do multiple colors (they have a lot of bright choices) and get a color proof at no additional cost!

My wedding is in July, 2009 and my colors are an emerald green and white. I love the contrast and I am hoping to come up with a simple but classy centerpiece that will add to this. I am certainly working with a limited budget here, but I have access to square mirrors for the tables and up to 3 cylinder vases per table. Any ideas?? 8-|

I just had my Gerber Daisy wedding on August 23, and we used cylinder vases with square mirror tiles for our centerpieces. We purchased submersible L.E.D. lights and put them in the bottom of the cylinder vase, filled the vase with water, and then floated sheer ribbon in the vase. In each corner of the square mirror tile, we placed a votive candle that had thin satin ribbon tied in a bow on the glass votives. The thin satin ribbon matched the sheer floating ribbon in the cylinder vase.

Savannah,

I don’t know how fancy you want to go but for my wedding next August I’m using sunflowers and burgundy gerber daisies. For my centerpieces I was going to use quart sized mason jars as vases a place a couple of flowers in them and then tie a coordinating ribbon around the neck. Then I was going to use pint sized jars as candle holders to place around the larger jars. You could do any combination of this. For me since my mom, grandmas and aunts all can the jars are free. But you could do something similar by getting all different vases and glasses at a dollar store for a low price. HTH!!!

Hi,

I have never written on one of these forums but I wanted to ask you how you were going with your burgundy and sunflower theme. Do you have any pics of sunflowers with burgandy daisies? I was thinking of sunflowers and burgundy roses but I really have no idea.

I dont really want to go to town with yellow - I just want the sunflowers as an accent to a rustic italian theme. I would like to have burgundy bridesmaid dresses if possible.

What colour are your bridesmaid dresses?
Have you used the theme colours throughout the venue?

Any more info would be greatly appreciated my wedding is Sept 09 but I am just getting started.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Catie,
You could always just take the petals off of daisies for the tossing. Or you could buy the silk daisies and cut them off for the tossing.

OR you could check out Balloons Galore, which has daisy “shaped” silk petals. which effectivly are little silk daisies in almost any color you could want. Check it out. :P

Totally adorable gerber destination wedding! In citrus green, orange and fuchsia (duh), this took place last Halloween in Aruba. I really love those lime green sashes, you don’t see those every day … and the cool, graphic cake just makes the most of those wild flowers! Destination cakes can be a bit uninspired … but this one rocks. Even the gorgeous bride’s e-pics coordinate. Plus, don’t you LOVE that seashell ring pillow? (She made it). You can see the whole wedding here.

Thanks so much! I have found a few ideas that I liked. I think since bowls are so expensive that I may do the votives with flowers around them with the runner. I also liked the idea of the small vases.
Jasmine-
I saw in an earlier post that you are also wanting to buy your daisies online. Where are you ordering yours? I found http://www.farmstogo.com that I liked because you can choose the colors of the gerberas.
Keep the ideas coming! I love getting the input from others!

Hi Tracy, I am also using gerbers in hot pink and orange, and dont have a huge flower budget, for our centerpieces we are using goldfish, despite all of the negative feelings some people have, but they color will be perfect and they are inexpensive. They will look cute in little bowls w/ black rocks and we are going to but 2 flowers in each bowl. I am also posting some pictures of centerpieces I considered, Hope this helps good luck!

Gerbera’s are so big, you don’t really need that many to create a centerpiece, which is good for the budget too. Why don’t you just keep it simple with a couple (1-2) daisies in a bud vase or smallish vase, with two or three small votive candles around it? You could tie a ribbon of your choice around the vase, and place a coordinating cloth napkin or wide ribbon runner under the arrangement in the center of the table. You could also take two or three daisies in different colors and fill up a medim sized mason jar and stick them in. This would look cute and country chic for an outdoor garden wedding like the I’m doing for my sister. If you do decide to have the floating gerberas in a glass bowl, it would only take one or to to fill each as they are large. You could also fill the bottom of the bowl with colored pebbles, or marbles.
A cute idea that I’ve been seeing a lot latley is simply doing a single flower in a vase (it could even be a simple glass dollar store vase) and place a black and white photo of you two together on each table. Every table has a different photo. I’m sure you probably have plenty of photo’s that you could chose from that you have taken in the time that you have been engaged. Each one could represent a different occasion together, or special time, or even a funny moment. You could display these mounted onto cardstock paper, and placed in a little plastic easle. You can get the easles at the dollar store or from a dollar up at most craft stores. You would only need a little one for each photo. You can upload your digital photos to Costco.com or a similar site. But I know for a fact that at Costco, you can change the colors of the photos and size, type etc. Each photo from Costco with the changes made to it is usually around a dollar or under. And you can get them mailed to you too! The photos could be either 4×6 size, or 5×7 size. Everyone loves looking at photos. They tell a story. And whether or not the people at your recpetion are close family, or guests of friends invited, they will enjoy going around to all the tables looking that “the Story” that the two of you have made together thus far. Afterwards you could collect the story pictures again, and place them in a special scrapbook with pictures from your wedding.
Try to think of somthing that would make the decor or centerpieces personal to each of you. Somthing that reflects who you are as a couple. What types of things are you into? Having personal touches is really what the guests will remember about your wedding day. If they don’t remember anything else, they at least should come away with a happy and relaxed feeling, in enjoying your day with you, and celebrating your new life together.

Hello-
This has been the best web site I have found with ideas for weddings with gerbera daisies! I am getting married October 11th and we are coming back the next weekend and having a reception/party. I am using the fall colors gerberas and am not wanting to spend a lot of money on decorations and centerpieces. I have found an online site that I think I am going to get my flowers at but my problem now is finding a pretty, inexpensive way to decorate my tables and centerpieces. I was thinking floating berberas but then I was afraid that wouldn’t be enough…and bowls are pricy. Then I thought I might use candles with gerberas but…PLEASE HELP! Anyone that has pics of anything they could show or help me out would be greatly appreciated! I have gone crazy looking online for ideas with pics. Thanks in advance for all your help.
Tracy

I had a friend who got married in 2005, and had lilac dresses for her girls, but all the flowers were in hot pink, yellow, orange, and white. It was a pretty interesting combination. She made huge arrangements for the church that were giant foam hearts covered in gerber daisies of all these colors, and the bouquets matched. The reception arrangements were the same colored daisies with lemon slices in the bottoms of clear glass cylinder vases, and the cake was covered in a cascading waterfall of all the same. It was an upbeat, fun, and bright theme. Unfortunately on a very cloudy day. But it still worked. I have to say though the giant gerber daisy covered hearts at the church were a bit over the top. I know the look that she was going for, but it turned out looking a little cheap, as all the flowers except the bridal bouquet and the centerpieces, were artificial flowers. It would have worked if she had added a little bit more greenery to each of the arrangements though. I am an artificial flower arranger myself, and I always pick the types of flowers that look real. These daisies could look real as well, if they were placed in such a way as to make them look more natural, (as in more greenery in the case of my friend.) I hope this help someone with their ideas!

Jasmine:

My sister-in-law bought all her flowers online. They arrived 3 days early and by the time the wedding came, most of the flowers were almost dead. We ended up buying flowers from Trader Joes and made the flower arrangements again. Every experience is different though. Check with the flower company on their policies. If it’s from Proflowers or a company similar, you will probably have a better experience.

Thanks Blake!
Although I previously thought yellow was too garish I’m really warming to it! I love the pics. Also the green. Sometimes I think blue can look a little too cool but I’ll definately think about it. I get what you mean about the gold and I certainly wouldn’t dream of a tacky gold look, however, the yellow is a definate contender! The flowers look really lovely - you’ve been a great help - Thanks!

I’m having an August 2009 wedding and am thinking of having chocolate brown dresses and using red and yellow gerbera daisies. Does anyone have any pictures of this combination? Do you think its too fallish for August if so what color would you suggest instead of the brown? I’ve considered grey. I know I have plenty of time but I’m so excited!!!:P

Hey Kat! OK, I’ve been thinking about your shastas.

Gold, mmm … I don’t know. Probably bad memories of gold lamé bridesmaid frock horrors from the 80s … but gold is such a strong statement. I know it could be done, but I think it would be hard for gold to have the light summery look you’re talking about. I think of gold gowns as indoors=winter=formal.

But yellow … yellow is great! Happily most BM dress designers seem to be picking restrained and paler forms of yellow. I think this is a good thing. Davids’ Bridal yellows, for example, range from the very pale pink-tinged buttercup to not-obnoxiously-bright canary. Yellow’s a pretty, youthful look that feels completely at home outside! Here, I like quieter attire with big color in the cakes and flowers. Add a bit of gingham and POW. Instant country! :D

If you’re not sold on yellow, there are other colors that come straightaway to mind when I think outdoors. Like, there’s a pale sage that looks fantastic with an armful of wildflowers.

But there’s something about cornflower blue that for me makes it the #1 country/garden color. Or hydrangea blue, with that tinge of lilac. These blues are so joyful, unpretentious. Add a shawl / pashmina / chiffon scarf, and everything looks so feminine and finished.

But a lot of blues say country to me. Not so much aqua, which is more tropical or even sort of ironic, but deeper ones too. Even cobalt, which is seeing a lot of play in fashion magazines right now and is very interesting. Check out below for some sage / cornflower / cobalt photos that jumped out for me. Whatcha think? Any of these would look beautiful with shasta daisies, maybe mixed with some yellow gerbers or mini-suns or a few yellow or white roses.

Shasta I think - the ones which are really country and quite rustic looking - white with yellow centres. Do you think a gold colour is too autumnal for a July wedding? Will gold go at all? mmmm. I really don’t know!

Lynsey, some pink & orange pics for you (wow, it took me a while … !)

Definitely check the credits below, the top two photos are from Brides Melissa & Rob, a pink and orange wedding with lots of gerbers, just gorgeous.

What I get out of these … pink & orange gerber bouquets look even more beautiful with a few non-gerber touches, like kermit mums, gloriosa liles, tiger lilies, roses … in complementary shades. Or, FlowersByMegan’s approach is lovely, she did the two bo-ks on the bottom left. I think they look so fresh with the white gerbers intermixed, the bear grass and that bold aqua ribbon.

I’m thinking of a daisy themed wedding as we’re having it in the summer and in a beautiful oak beamed barn - so it’s country chic all the way! I have no idea what colours to put the bridesmaids in though! Any ideas? Yellow might be a bit too bright.

Hi Jenn, sage and pink look so wonderful together! You can’t go wrong. Bridesmaid gowns are a big block of color, this will surround you at the altar, so pick the one that you really want to see a lot of.

If you’re a pink girl at heart you will def. want your bridesmaids to be pink, but if you’re more drawn to the cooler, toned-down sage or if it’s “natural” colors of the garden that really define your wedding, sage’s the one to go with.

You could also see if a particular dress really makes you fall for it, and then see which color you like it better in, pink or sage.

A third possibility is to pick a quiet neutral for your girls, like champagne or latte. Add a sage or pink sash and some pink gerbers to carry and it will tie in perfectly. A delicate, sweet look, see a pale pink and champagne wedding for an idea of how this might come off.

Hi Raelene, Brittant, some food for thought …

This really shows some possibilities. I’m actually drawn to the all-white bouquet against the clover. But what I love most here, surprisingly, is the jade roses against those gowns in the middle row with the pink ribbon detail. Now, gerbers don’t come in jade but if you mixed some jade roses with white gerbers it could look spectacular, a bit different.

Some other great ideas here: bright orange plus fuchsia (perfect for gerbers), deep pink plus pastel pink, pale pink plus pale yellow and cream as shown in the calla bouquets, pinks with a touch of coral as shown in the last gown with the chocolate sash. What do you think? Anything grab you?

Hello,
My bridesmaids are wearing green (clover) dresses, and I’m wondering what color of gerber daisies to go with. I have thought of hot pink, yellow and ivory, or just hot pink and ivory (I am carrying ivory daisies).
What do you recommend?

My issue however is that my wedding colors are Champagne, Black and Ivory! My dress is Ivory with a Champagne sash and my girls are wearing Black Tea Length dresses. I was going to use white Gerber’s and hand tie them with Black or Champagne ribbon but I dont think the flowers will stand out enough…. Any ideas or suggestions?

This is for Sarah Jo - Our daughter is getting married July 5, 2008 and she is using Pink and Orange Gerber Daisies with Alstroemeria. It comes in about 80 colors (literally) and is very inexpensive = $2.00 per stem with 5 -6 blooms per stem. You could use either white or cream colored alstromeria for more depth. Good Luck!

Hi,
I am getting married in July, and my colors are brown and champagne. I have used bits of gold in my dress and table decorating. The bridesmaids are wearing champagne dresses with chocolate sashes and the maids of honour are wearing chocolate dresses with champagne sashes. The groomsmen are wearing chocolate suits with champagne ties. I’m having a bit of a problem deciding what color paper would be best for my programmes.

Ashley, I love your colors…if I was getting married in the summer/fall I would totally pop some brown in there. I think you probably could overdo it and it may look tacky, but with the right touches of sage..it could be really classy and elegant..I would just focus on the sage for maybe ribbon on the centerpieces/bouquets/decor. Nothing on the bridesmaids. Just my opinion good luck and congrats!

Hey guys, I am getting married at the end of this month..yay!! I have wrote on here before, but wanted to answer some questions any of you may be having. I am doing hot pink and a citrus green as my colors with hot pink gerbera daisies and limes for the centerpieces..very funky and sheek. I have stayed under $8,000 for my entire wedding except the honeymoon….and have done so much myself and planned for the past year and a half..I am only 22 but I really feel that I found my niche.

As far as the photographer is concerned, I had a hard time finding one..however, I found one on myspace actually that was in my budget and exactly what I was looking for. So good luck!

Hi everyone! I am getting married next month and have pretty much everything complete. I ordered a small sample of what I wanted my boquet to look like—just so I would be sure I absolutely loved it on the big day! Its all gerbers in hot pink, a lighter pink and orange with a hot pink wrap. It looked great but I think it was missing something. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else would look good along with the gerbers? Different flowers, some filler maybe? I need some help!! Thanks!!

elizabeth,

yay for pink and orange!! those are my colors(plus brown) for my wedding in october. it is overwelming so just get started asap and book things as soon as you can. it doesnt hurt to be ahead. i had my location, caterer, photographer, dress, dj, invitations and save the dates booked and ordered in 2 months. no i dont have as much to stress about later :D
i was very picky about choosing my photographer. it depends on how important your photography is to you and how much you want to spend. photography was on the top of my list as most important so i didnt mind spending more money in that area to get a good photographer.i have some photography background so i choose based on picture quality and style as well as a recomendation. i suggest you ask around and if you have someone in mind, ask if they have references you can talk to. narrow it down to 3 or 4 photographers and meet with all of them….you may click with one right away or you may be able to cross them off immediately. make sure you find exactly what you want in a photographer and the package you want. photography is something you can not replace or re do so make sure its something you are very happy with :D let me know if you have any other questions on pink and orange ideas. here is the website for my photographer…just to get an idea.

happy planning!!

Hi Heather, welcome!

OK, the colors. Gerbers come in white to cream, pink to burgundy, red, orange, yellow, peach … Here’s some great photos of gerber colors from FiftyFlowers, a site that sells them in bulk. I have no affiliation with them, but they really seem to know their stuff from their blog and are worth checking out.

As for cost, if you buy to arrange them yourself you will find them from about $1 a stem (supermarket flowers) to $2-$3 a stem (better quality growers’ flowers). No one can estimate the cost from a florist. It depends totally on the florist, the season, your region, how competitive the florist is in the market.

Now for aqua or DB’s “tropic” … an easy way to cheat is to look at the flowers that David’s Bridal chose for the photo’s bouquets! Not that you can’t make up your own combos, but the ones they chose to show off the dress are a great place to start.

So, take a look at DB’s “tropic” next to gerbers in the blushing white, yellow and pink tones they picked for the model’s calla bouquet.

And then, see that Cornflower jr. bridesmaid gown paired with that gorgeous coral/fuchsia dress, and some gerbers to match. Looks great doesn’t it?

Hope that gets you started!

Ok. I have lots of questions about Gerber daisies. First, what colors can you get them in? Can anyone post a picture of all of the varieties?
My color is aqua, but it is a darker color than the aqua below. The color is called tropic from Davids Bridal. Can any color daisy go with this color? How much does a Gerber bouquet usually run?
