There's reason behind the old saying, "fresh as a daisy."
Because when brides of all ages want to express the youthful side of love, nothing beats the daisy in all its guises: from the traditional Shasta, with its echoes of nostalgia and innocence, to the practically-punk Gerber and its contemporary colors.
Shasta Daisy Style

No other flower says "young love" like the Shasta daisy, with its cheery face and paper-white petals. Dear to blushing brides everywhere, the Shasta begs for sayings like, "he loves me, he loves me not — he loves me ... we tied the knot!"
Silhouettes and textures that suit the shasta to a 'tee': eyelet and cotton fabrics. And gowns with a retro-style bell skirt and slender waist, or chic tea-lengths, worn with a flyaway veil.
Reedy, youthful brides look gorgeous in a simple A-line or column style — especially against vibrant greens of a garden or park.
The Shasta also plays well with white organza bows and delicate pastels like lavender, mint green, or baby-chick yellow. They look lovely paired with pastel roses, and in hand-tied bouquets dressed up with pink or yellow satin wraps.
They're a bit fragile, though, so resort to silks for anything like a pomander ball, anything without a water source, or anything your flower girl might carry around.
Gerber Daisy Drama
Gerbers are the Vivienne Westwoods of the flower world. The brides who love them also love design, and modern shocks of color. The most popular palette for Gerber-lovers is probably bright pink and orange. A close second might be pink and green. For Autumn brides, fiery combinations of yellow, orange and red set the scene.
But brides are also designing around Gerbers' purples, peaches and sultry magentas. And let's not forget that Gerbers really pop against dark brown and black (both super-popular shades for bridesmaids' attire. Coincidence?)
All Dolled Up With Daisies
Here are some adorable things we've seen done with daisies:
Wheatgrass Trays
That rich explosion of green makes daisies look fabulous, whether they're white or fuchsia. Take note: the fragile stems need to be wired!
Floating Heads
Single Shasta flower heads floating in votives or shot glasses: adorable. Larger Gerber heads can sometimes fill a whole fishbowl: finish the look with a bright satin ribbon. Or toss these blooms en masse in fountains or pools.
Flashy Splashes
The brightest gerbers call for dramatic echoes elsewhere in your event. Dress your bridesmaids in bright dupioni sashes (salmon or tangerine, say). Swag the ceilings with shiny fabrics to match. Wrap each cake layer in bold, patterned ribbons. Rustle up tangerine parasols and saturated linens and chair covers. Serve a menu of signature drinks in each of your Gerber colors!
Ribbons on Ribbons
Pick a bright palette to match your favorite Gerber daisies, then wrap your vases and votive holders in several layers of ribbon of different widths. For example, layer a bright orange inch-wide satin ribbon over a corrugated two-inch-wide fuchsia ribbon.
Fruit and Flowers
Choose Gerbers of a citrusy hue, then fill your centerpiece containers with sliced lemons, limes or oranges in bright, coordinating colors.
Back to Basics
Just because you love all-white doesn't mean you have to pass on Gerbers: they come in bridal white, too. And with their oversized heads, they've got all the charm of Shastas, plus a fresh and modern spin.
Rustic Roots
Gerbers and Shastas alike can add rustic punch to any affair. Just combine them with a little raffia or twine, birds' nest bouquet collars, galvanized pails, or gingham and mason jars.

Hi, I’m getting married October 2, 2010. I am having my girls is chocolate brown and my dress is ivory. My colours for the hall are brown and cream. Now I have a vision of having the flowers “pop.” I am thinking of having reds, oranges, and yellows in the bouquet. I am deffinatly going to be using gerber daises.. I’m just not sure how they will look together or how to arrange them (my aunt is making them) I also want to put red rose in my bouquet to set apart from the other girls. I hope that someone can help. Thanks!

Ok I am renew my vows July 10,2010 my colors are pink and orange I am tryin to think of centerpiece for the tables I am using Gerbers dasiy pink wirh white roses any ideals
Amanda,
i think it would be beautiful to float both types of flower heads in glass bowls. or you could do long stem arrangements of 1 white rose and a few gerberas in a slender vase. you could get cylinder vases and submerge a white rose then have VERY small glass cylinders and have gerberas sitting around the tall centerpiece. one more idea is to submerge 2 gerberas and 1 single white rose in cylinders. top with floating candle.
I was having issues with centerpieces as well, but didn’t want alot of glass or water, so I have opted for paper lanterns with the battery operated bulbs and scattering the fresh flower heads on the table. And to pick this all up I am doing daisy wrapped napkins for an added touch. My colors are hot pink, tangerine, lime and aqua and the gerbera’s will be so pretty and understated on the tables! Congrats!

My wedding is in May 2010 and I have no idea what I’m doing. (Although I did finally get my dress) It’s going to be a wedding on the beach followed by a reception on the lawn of a rental house just about 70 yards from the beach. So far I’ve decided to use a color similar to some found in sea glass (blues/greens) but I haven’t narrowed it down yet. I want to use shasta daisies but I’m not sure how to incorporate the daisy them along with beach theme. Any ideas? Photos are also much appreciated! Especially ideas relating to table settings. I’m going for the casual look with just the right touch of “beachy”. Thanks so much!!!
Hi, I am getting married May 2010. My flowers are going to be shasta daisies and some sort of burnt orange flower. My girls will be wearing burnt orange. my dress is ivory and burnt orange detailing. I want to make my own centerpieces, but not sure what to do. I would like something that is not too tall. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lisa,
i would get some glass bowls and float some shasta daisy heads and surround with candles of different heights.
Lisa, I am getting married April 2010 and had a great idea using small watering cans w/ the daisies. Good luck
Misha,
where did you find your watering cans at? I was thinking about those….
sorry I missed this but check out Michael’s and A.C. Moore
i just had a great idea….for the daisies…..small mason jars…..they are inexpensive and old fashion like…..
Karen,
When I get married I will be using those Starbuck coffee drink bottles with a string of ribbon tied in a bow around the neck of the bottle then put daisies in the bottles. I have seen it done and it looks great
I am getting married October 9, 2010 in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. I have decided on having my two matrons of honor (yep…I’m having two!) wear a horizon blue color dress that is about knee length, and I am planning on having the rest of my bridesmaids wear a Sangria purple dress(kinda like a plum purple color…actually planning having them wear the same dress, just in different colors!). Sounds weird, but it seems to look good! my question is, i am really set on having gerbera daisies, as this is my favorite flower…only problem is, i can’t seem to find any blue or purple gerbera daisies that match. any other colors would work? i don’t want to be clashing too much!
courtney,
i would use white gerberas with greenery, tied off with a pattern or stripe luxury ribbon that blended the dress colors.
You can go to afloral.com they have all colors…Goodluck :
spin that colorwheel ! Incorporate your complimentary colors. Have your girls greet your guests and stand by your side with bright gerbera faces in yellow (with the plum dresses) and orange (with the blue dresses), sash ‘em up with satin or silk ribbon a shade or two lighter than the dress - maybe some wee blossoms of white or plum/blue with the gerberas - I think would just pop
Needing some advice on colors… my dress is Ivory and Rum… would love to use daisys and lillies as my flowers . We are planning on a July wedding. Please help!
hi Billy,
lilies and daisies would be perfect with a ivory and rum dress. can you tell me a bit about waht your venue look like and colors? plus what type of feel do you want to set for your guests. any favorite or special meaning colors?
Do you have a good place to order silk gerber daisies for a pomander?
Bri,
try here…

I am getting married May 1 2010. My colors are grey and orange. The BM are wearing orange dresses with grey sashes and the GM are wearing grey suits with orange ties. I want to use daises b/c it is my future hubby’s favorite flower. I love the calla lilies. How can use both of these flowers together?
Amber,
what i would do is decorate with the daisies( will keep it very spring like and inexpensive too!!)and then have the bm carry a single large calla lily with ribbon. and you can carry the mix of callas and daisies. you didnt specify what type of daisy so i found one with gerbera. love it!!

Hello! We are having a wedding June 2010 in Colorado! We have already decided to have our colors be black and white big polka dots with fuscia! I am set on having gerber daisies as my flowers….I have a couple of ideas on how to really dress it up but I do NOT want any bm or groomsmen wearing polka dots! I just want that to be an added flavor for the reception and hints of ribbon and such at the wedding ceremony. Any cool ideas of how to incorporate polka dots and bright pink gerber daisies? Do you think I need an additional color to add some substance (maybe light pink)? We are soooo excited and thrilled to do something VERY different - it will not be over the top, but it WILL be classy! :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks-
mariah,
i would have the girls carry fuschia gerbera with black and white polka dot ribbon.

* love this suspended polka dots ( would look fab in black white suspended over the tables from fishing line) even paper lanterns could work over the tables.
*polka dot paper lanterns ( i could imagine these paired with black AND white paper lanterns. suspended over tables with simple white linens, black napkins, with white gerbera centerpieces) you could even do just fuschia and white over black and white tables with fuschia centerpieces.
Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it! The fun part is that there is so much we can do with this idea! :)
Hi, Our wedding day is March 27th, 2010. My dress is going to be a champagne color and I really want to use Pink and Orange Gerbera Daisies. How do you think this will look? I love the colors just not sure how it would go with champagne…..Need ur opinions please
rebecca,
oh i think it will look fantastic.
*real wedding the knot
*wedding table pic, champagne linens with pink and orange florals ( this is the best picture i could find for champagne with pink and oranges flowers, just put gerbera daisies instead) G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!! at least you can see the color combo here. so yes it will look just as fantastic against your dress!!
hey, i love ALL the ideas here but let me tell you my plans now. i am getting married 7-05-2010. we are soooo excited and the planning is going quickly. the theme is shasta daisies! They are the most beautiful, fresh and happy flower i know. it’s a backyard wedding and the landscaping is in the works now. just have to touch up next summer. have fun all.
hi, i’m getting married July 18th, 2010. I know that I want my flowers to be the Red Gerbera Daisy. I was thinking of haveing my bridesmaid wear some sort of cream colored dress, maybe a champaigne color with a sash or some sort of red accent on the dress. will this wirk together? i want the dresse to be short like knee legnth or below the knee…
I was thinking of using the red daisy as the centerpiece and also using the orange gerber dausy favor boxes. I think the BM bouquet will have the red and orange daisy and I will use only the red daisy bouquet.
Help. Does this sound nice?
janelle,
have you considered not having a red accent on the dress and just have a long flowing ribbon on the bm bouquets? it depends if you are wanting fun or more simple elegance. they could wear red rhinestone earrings or have fabulous red shoes. but i do love it!!
help!i’m a bride to be next year.I wanted a combination of blue/white color in my wedding like the sky
i like the gerbera daisies for my bouquet,is there a blue gerbera daisy for that? is it ok to have blue and white gerbera daisy for the bouquet?
thanks for the attention
-joey
joey,
you can ask your florist for dyed or tinted gerbera daisies. or you can diy too. gerbera daisies come in all colors except blue.
*blue gerbera daisy
*blue and white bouquet
it depends on the look youlike. white gerberas mixed with grape hyacinth would look amazing!!
thanks stacey. i try the white gerbera and grape hyacinth. it sounds beautiful.
Anyone know a good place to find silk gerber or gerbera flowers that are bright pink with yellow centers? I want to use these in my bridal bouquet.
Im getting married 4-24-2010 and my fiancee has picked his tux..its black with a white shirt and a champagne vest and tie.. so my friend said fuschia would look good with that.. i also want gerbra daisy as the flowers.. iwas thinking pink and butter..colored..any suggestions..would that be a good combinations.. i have included a pic of the flowers and the 2 bm dresses
brittani,
i do like the fuschia very much. are you gonna have two different bm dress colors or just one? either way the pink and yellow will work well.
yes i was thinking about having the 2 bm dresses.. would that be too much?the fuschia dress will have champagne bow and the champagne dress will have a fuschia bow.. is that too dark for a sppring wedding
brittani, it is beautiful for a spring wedding. i love the fact you are having unmatchy bm dresses. i made you a board to kinda get a feel of what it would look like. i didnt have your exact bouquets so, i improvised in a couple pics, but here is an overall effect. i thought champagne linens looked best. it really adds a simple elegance to the florals and color scheme.
where did you find this pink dress??? it is beautiful!!!
alicia,
which dress were you referring to? the one on my board?
yes, the pink one with the sash
wow, i read your post and i thought it was my wedding! I am getting married 4-24-2010, my colors are pink and yellow, i am doing gerbera daisies as well! They will look fantastic together, i am hoping!
I am the sister in law to be and I helping the bride with creating the bridal party flowers. The wedding is Aug 29, 2009 - we don’t have much time!! The bm dresses are chocolate brown and the bride wants pink as the accent color, the groom however is concerned about the pink for the gm flower and having a pepto bismol wedding. I was thinking a brighter pink/fushia gerbera daisy with green hydrangea for the bm bouquets. But will it look ok if the bride carries a solid bouquet of white shasta daisies or do I need to incorporate some yellow into the bm? For the gm I was thinking white shasta daisies or a green hydrangea bunch for the lapel flower. Any pictures, suggestions, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also we are planning on using silk flowers so if anyone has some trusted websites that would be great.
Thank you
Sandra in Wisconsin
sandra,
try saveoncrafts.com i wouldnt worry about incorporating yellow, since the daisies will most likely have yellowish centers. i think white for the bride is ideal. white for the groom, the gm can wear the green hydrangea with a small brown ribbon.
