There's reason behind the old saying, "fresh as a daisy."
Because when brides of all ages want to express the youthful side of love, nothing beats the daisy in all its guises: from the traditional Shasta, with its echoes of nostalgia and innocence, to the practically-punk Gerber and its contemporary colors.
Shasta Daisy Style

No other flower says "young love" like the Shasta daisy, with its cheery face and paper-white petals. Dear to blushing brides everywhere, the Shasta begs for sayings like, "he loves me, he loves me not — he loves me ... we tied the knot!"
Silhouettes and textures that suit the shasta to a 'tee': eyelet and cotton fabrics. And gowns with a retro-style bell skirt and slender waist, or chic tea-lengths, worn with a flyaway veil.
Reedy, youthful brides look gorgeous in a simple A-line or column style — especially against vibrant greens of a garden or park.
The Shasta also plays well with white organza bows and delicate pastels like lavender, mint green, or baby-chick yellow. They look lovely paired with pastel roses, and in hand-tied bouquets dressed up with pink or yellow satin wraps.
They're a bit fragile, though, so resort to silks for anything like a pomander ball, anything without a water source, or anything your flower girl might carry around.
Gerber Daisy Drama
Gerbers are the Vivienne Westwoods of the flower world. The brides who love them also love design, and modern shocks of color. The most popular palette for Gerber-lovers is probably bright pink and orange. A close second might be pink and green. For Autumn brides, fiery combinations of yellow, orange and red set the scene.
But brides are also designing around Gerbers' purples, peaches and sultry magentas. And let's not forget that Gerbers really pop against dark brown and black (both super-popular shades for bridesmaids' attire. Coincidence?)
All Dolled Up With Daisies
Here are some adorable things we've seen done with daisies:
Wheatgrass Trays
That rich explosion of green makes daisies look fabulous, whether they're white or fuchsia. Take note: the fragile stems need to be wired!
Floating Heads
Single Shasta flower heads floating in votives or shot glasses: adorable. Larger Gerber heads can sometimes fill a whole fishbowl: finish the look with a bright satin ribbon. Or toss these blooms en masse in fountains or pools.
Flashy Splashes
The brightest gerbers call for dramatic echoes elsewhere in your event. Dress your bridesmaids in bright dupioni sashes (salmon or tangerine, say). Swag the ceilings with shiny fabrics to match. Wrap each cake layer in bold, patterned ribbons. Rustle up tangerine parasols and saturated linens and chair covers. Serve a menu of signature drinks in each of your Gerber colors!
Ribbons on Ribbons
Pick a bright palette to match your favorite Gerber daisies, then wrap your vases and votive holders in several layers of ribbon of different widths. For example, layer a bright orange inch-wide satin ribbon over a corrugated two-inch-wide fuchsia ribbon.
Fruit and Flowers
Choose Gerbers of a citrusy hue, then fill your centerpiece containers with sliced lemons, limes or oranges in bright, coordinating colors.
Back to Basics
Just because you love all-white doesn't mean you have to pass on Gerbers: they come in bridal white, too. And with their oversized heads, they've got all the charm of Shastas, plus a fresh and modern spin.
Rustic Roots
Gerbers and Shastas alike can add rustic punch to any affair. Just combine them with a little raffia or twine, birds' nest bouquet collars, galvanized pails, or gingham and mason jars.

i am having my wedding colors as red, white and blue (chicago cubs colors) and i was wondering what to do for the red and blue daisies. any suggestions?
Oh how I love this hip, chic and youthful gerber wedding … nothing fussed to death, nothing overdone, just a few fresh touches of yellow and blue, and white gerbers (and a few shastas) used to perfection. Not to mention a gorgeous couple! That sweet cake topper and the clear glass cylinders with the floating candle are just a few more great modern touches.
I am using gerber daisies in my wedding and I want to say thank you for all the ideas. I was just curious if anyone knows where I can order the daisy votive holdes in the cake picture below. I love them! My wedding is not until August but I really owuld like to get them. If someone has made them too let me know.
One more thing I forgot to add…..
I am making daisy pomanders to hang on each row of chairs for the ceremony and then using them to hang around the reception hall. Here is the webiste…I bought my flowers at Jo Anns for 30 percent off!

Hello everyone!
I am getting married in October and my dresses are brown with an ivory sash since my dress is ivory. The girls are going to carry pink and orange gerber daisies(my colors are pink, orange and brown) and i thought about the guys wearing a light gold instead of brown so there wouldn’t be so much brown. My invitations have pink, orange and brown stripes with a gold ribbon dividing the invitation in half. my ceremony/reception location(1875 victorian house) has a lot of gold accents so I figured it would look ok. Any thoughts on this??
For the ones who have asked about daisy centerpieces I have thought of a few but haven’t decided on one yet but I figured I would share them with y’all…..
fish bowl with colored stones at the bottom with gerber daisy on the bottom with floating candles or the flower floating on the top.
different sized glass bowls(round, short, tall but either round or square, not both) with colored water that matches your colors with floating candles and colored stones
tall glass vase layered with your choice of things(stones, rocks, shells, fruit, etc.) with bouquet of daises
Different textures look good together so be creative!
I will post more ideas if I think of anything else. Happy planning!

Some cute daisy bouquets!
Here’s a pink and chocolate gerber wedding; every bridesmaid carries the same style hot pink bouquet. And then an intimate, outdoor wedding where the BMs in black carry a bright, small bo-k of fuchsia and bright orange gerbers.
Finally, here’s a charming pink-on-pink wedding where the BMs carry bo-ks of hot pink mixed with pink-with-coral-overtones against pastel dresses. Gorgeous.
Stay tuned … I’m going to try to do a blitz of daisy bouq pics so everyone can hopefully get some inspiration from other brides. And please — feel free to join me and post your own!
I had to share these gerber pics of pure joy from StarrDesign’s Florida Keys beach wedding. Oh, how I love those bouqs. This was a DIY wedding — she designed the stationery too.
Hello, I’m in the same boat as Amanda. We’re getting married April 12, 2008 and I want to use Gerber Daisies. The dresses are chartreuse (not quite lime green). I bought a variety of colors of daisies. Should each bridesmaid be given a color and then for my bouquet do one of each color, plus cream? I can’t decide. Any ideas?
I just got marreid January 8th and thought some of you may want to see my photos with my pink and brown wedding colors and Gerbra daisies.

Hello, cheryl!
I’m not getting married until 30th may 2009 but am looking already!! I wanted brown for my bridesmaid dresses but like you i was worried about the black tux. What colours have you put underneath eg the waistcoat and cravate? x
Hi everyone! I am getting married April 12, 2008. My dresses are apple green and I want to use the pink, orange, etc gerber daisies. Does anyone have any ideas for inexpensive centerpieces for the tables? The tables are round and seat 8 people. I want the wedding “theme” to be simple but reminiscent of a garden theme. Any suggestions. PICS would be fabulous
Anyone have fall wedding pics i would love to see them
Hi i have the same theme as you Cheryl, i was wondering what color vest and ties the guys were wearing with the black tux. Im getting married Nov 8 08 and my girls are wearing expresso brn with a burnt orange sash. I dont no what the guys should wear??
K, a few more pics and then I’ll do cakes later, after other people have a chance to post.
These are all from different weddings. But I love this gerber pomander — easy to DIY with silks — and the way gerbers are used to line the aisle in a beach wedding, and especially the blooms floating in the fountain for this luxuriant orangey-red and white gerber wedding (they went all out for this one).
Okay, a few cake posts. I’m obsessed with cakes, if you couldn’t tell.
Don’t you love those gerber bases under the votives on cake #1??
Cake #2 is by Denver’s Kelley Kakes and cake #3 is by Quality Kosher.
BTW, this reminds me, way too many people sweat bullets designing their cake, and invest a small fortune in it, and then display it on something like thin polyester linen with crimp marks in the fabric. Luxurious linens are a NECESSITY for maximizing cake cuteness. The cake in that cute red/yellow wedding below really proves it.
