Dreaming of a Dazzling Green Theme Wedding

When you hear people talking about the color green and its "energy," you hear things like groundedness, growth, connection to the earth. And none of those things are wrong.

But in weddings, green's got a feel all its own, and that feel is fresh, slightly preppy, and above all, modern.

If you're reading this, you've probably found yourself smitten with that look that's unique to the green flower families.

For example: green-tipped hydrangeas and chrysanthemum buttons, green hypericum berries and chartreuse roses, even green anthuriums and callas: they look amazing, and leave you wanting more.

Green Weddings -1

Pink and green's a winning combination that grabs many brides right out of the gate. They're nearly opposites on the color wheel, which makes them deeply satisfying together.

And combined, they have a signature freshness that makes them equally at home in the fun-loving West Coast, deep Deco Miami, or the super-saturated Caribbean.

Green Weddings - 2

And perhaps even more so than all of the above? The preppy East. Especially when in a garden or a great airy tent near the beach, the East Coast wedding seems to be home base for this beguiling combination. Green and pink says "daytime," "cocktail length bridesmaids gowns," and an absolutely charming sense of understated fun.

Green Weddings - 3

Of course, brides have a wealth of choices beyond pink when it comes time to partner up green.

Purple, for example, injects a subtle sense of mystery. So does dialing back from lime green to a more Mediterranean olive. And once you've gone with olive, that invites some super-sophisticated pairings, such as bronze or copper.

Equally beautiful is any shade of green that's paired with some beautifully patterned black and white ... say, a monochromatic damask or toile design.

Green Weddings - 4

And deep chocolate brown makes another gorgeous showcase for green. Its groundedness takes the green theme well into fall, and — if you want it to — more formal territories. Plus, this combo's easier to adapt to indoor evening affairs.

Sage green, olive green, apple green, sour apple, lime green, hunter, chartreuse ...

... which distinctly gorgeous shade of green are you going with?

Hi, I am having my wedding on dec 2010 and i wanted to have olive green and matt gold colors. Do you think that is a good combination? Will it look great on pictures? Do you have any bridesmaid dresses in this color, or any other suggestions like for decorations?
Thanks much!

I am having an october wedding. My colors are hunter green and Ivory. I am a simple country kind of gal and I do not want a really “fancy” type of wedding. I am going with the rustic look. Will Sunflowers match my colors and look ok? I think they are beautiful in their simplicity.

Thank you so much. I feel much more confident about my choice of flowers. Have any ideas on centerpieces? I want something different, no flowers or floating candles. Not my thing I guess. I was thinking of filling a bowl with colorful fruits like apples and pears, but im not sure I like that too much,

Hi Everyone,
I need some centrepiece ideas. My colour scheme is gray and green. We’re having an outdoor ceremony (surrounded by lots of trees) but an indoor reception. I’m hoping to carry over the outdoor theme indoor but I’m not a big fan of tall centrepieces.

Please help!

Rochelle,
I suggested to a bride earlier that fresh green clippings would work. i am thinking for you too. another thing youcould do if you have columns or poles in your venue is bring in real tree branches and tie them around the columns/poles with plastic cable ties then make sure the ties are hidden by some branches. then all you would need on the tables is candles. It would look like an enchanted forest!

Thank you for enchanted forest idea! I’m not sure if the venue has some poles that I can tie the branches to but I will see what I can do.
On more thing, after doing some shopping for the wedding, I’m not getting confused and overwhelmed that I am now having a hard time visualizing how my theme colours (gray, green and maybe some white) will come togethere. Can you make suggestions?

Amanda,
* I think you might like this
* scour through loads of ideas
* this is pretty. just use ivory linens and brown runners or napkins or vice versa.

I highly recommend using greenery for your centerpieces. It will keep cost down plus give you the look your after. Think fern in containers. You can find simple vases at flea markets/second hand stores. You can ask a family member or friend for fresh greenery clippings too. Keeping the florals down to you and your bridal party. if you plan using flowers for centepieces, lots of greenery and natural fillers will give a lush look. dont overlook succulents they have great impact. depending on your location hydrangeas can be pricey. simple ivory roses with greenery will give the same look and put grasses or twigs such as curly willow ( from a craft store) or even natural ting ting( from craft store) into your florals. for an earthy look youwill want more greenery and less flowers. I think white gerberas or any kind of daisy. This would look more in place than roses because of its wildflower look. And is inexpensive to boot. chrysathemums will be in season.

* this wedding is gorgeous, I love the ideas. you could string blossoms on fishing wire and suspend to maryy under. paper lanterns are the best things invented. lots of impact for less

Hi, this blog is very informative although I am unable to view the links nor photos posted :-(
I am twisting the whole look as I am having a Hindi wedding in Nov 2010! I am planning for the ceremony to be under a gazebo in a garden and vegetarian dinner provided in an adjacent reception venue. My colour scheme is green and deep pink. I am looking for inovative yet affordable table decor. I was thinking of potted plants as center piece - maybe watsonia or gladiolus. Any suggestions?

I am getting married in May 2010. I am looking for inexpensive DIY centerpiece ideas and flower suggestion. I am using lime green, tangerine orange and fuschia as accent colors. The wedding will be in the evening with views of the ocean. The ceremony will be outside in a very green garden. The reception will be in an adjacent building built in the 20s. I like simple and modern. I am not intrested in using candles. Thank you!

for the guys i like simple black attire. no colored vest. just pull in the color on the pocket square or boutonniere. but you could also go with grey attire.

your gonna have a wonderful color scheme! go with what you love, seasonal weddings get caught up in “traditonal” colors. you can have a jawdropping wedding by thinking outside the box. it can lead to trends. for example pink for Christmas weddings is beautifully unforgettable.

I am having sage and brown wedding…. and I need someones advice. Everyone including my madeofhonor have her idea about what they will wear. I was picking my bridesmaids and made of honor’s dress but the problem is my make of honor is really far from me. She wanted to buy her dress away where she at. I have no idea how to deal with it. Something about it is I don’t like. She is over powering me about that decition but I don’t want to cost a fight. I love my bestfriend but I am about to kill her. what should I do? :( :( :( :(

EMJ,
why not let them head to davids bridal and pick from the mix and match, that way they can wear something that suits their body and give them the color range they can go in, that way there is flexibility. all bridesmaids in the same color can be tricky especially with skintones and body shapes. even if you wanted them in one color, the mix and match separates are great. cause one could wear for example: all green dress, the next in a white strapless top with same color green bottom, sashes can be pulled in. i would make sure the dresses they are looking at will be sent to you that way it will fit your wedding style. you will want confident and beautiful bm’s and you, the bride, having peace of mind for them as well as your entire wedding.

Hello,

I am getting married in September of 2010. I would really like my bridesmaids to wear short kelly green dresses with white/green bouquets and I would like to carry Fuschia colored bouquet. Now, I am also trying to come up with a theme and a third colore to tie it all together, but having a tough time. Our ceremony will be outside in a garden and then the reception will be indoors. I was thinking of maybe incorporating the garden theme indoors for the reception. Also, I know that Kelly Green is very bright, which is why I need a neutral third color, any suggestions?

Thank you - Lily

Lily, Hi,
i love the idea of carrying the garden theme indoors. you could use champagne, taupe, or ivory. i think the champagne or taupe would look fantastic especially with the kelly green.
* ideas

isnt it fabulous!! see the flowers have bright green foilage. it would tie the kelly green in very nicely. it would be easy and fun to have kelly green table linens and have an oversized champagne topper ( so just a peek of kelly green or even fuschia would shine through) use centerpieces of green, white and fuschia and it would pick up on the green from underneath in the foilage. another thing you could do for the centerpieces is add floating green apples in cylinders topped with flowers.

* more visuals
* okay, this is fun and refreshing…just fantastic!!
* i think i might have found ya something….the linens are white but more fuschia/hot pink was brought in… still pulling in your green into the room, just toned down like ya wanted. so instead of adding another color you could just use the fuschia to be the “neutralizer” and use the green more in the centerpieces

First let me congratulate you on your wedding. By now you may have found the colors that you are looking for. A coral or tangelo along with shamrock would be really pretty. My daughter also wants an orange and green wedding. She is having a fall wedding so we are going to go with more earthy orange and green tones.

Blessings to you and yours on your special day!

Here is the question my fiance thinks that sage green dresses and vest would look good only thing is the church carpet and seats are a dark green will that clash? I like a the berry color dresses that davids bridal has or either a yellow I need some help I dont really want to mix alot of differant flowers, any help would be nice. :?

amy,
actually pairing sage green with this would work. it would be monochromatic ( shades of one color ranging from light to dark). also the leaves will be darker in the bouquets that will also bring in deeper green and give balance. the only thing that i would find out to confirm my color is having the bm try on the sage. some skintones have a difficult time wearing this color. it tends to wash out and the bridal party wont feel confident and it wont look good in pictures. i am a pale olive skintone and i cant wear sage at all. it makes me look very unhealthy. yellow does my skintone that same. i would go to a bridal store and try on different colors. you are in luck cause most everything goes perfect with green. if you are going with something simple and very pleasing to the eye, you might find berry and the sunflowers may not look as well as the green or the yellow.

Hi, my fiance and I will be getting married in October of this year and we are trying to keep are buget the lowest we can! I am doing all the color cordinating and I need some help! I my bridesmaids will be wearing a clover (green) color and grooms men chocolate brown tuxs. The hall we rented for our receptions is all hard wood walls and floors. I feel that if I pick a chocolate brown for my linens it will really darken the room and if I choose clover it may be a little bright. What about ivory? My center pieces will be a plain vases with white gladiolus. Im so confuse and frustrated on what to choose for the linens. Thanks in advance!

Damaris,
you could choose mocha, cream, white, or champagne. but to keep it in simple and the budget low, white can be the least expensive. i would talk to the rental store about the linens to see if there is any price difference. if not, then you could go with any of the colors above and btw, i LOVE your centerpieces.
oh yeah, you couls also have the white or lighter linen and have runners in mocha or even brown. it would be a mix not being to dark.
*green and brown wedding reception

(it would look a lot like the last pic on this site, isnt it absolutely breathtaking!) i saved this pic cause i think it is sooo pretty, and simply done, which stands out even more. mocha runners, and brown napkins, on white linens. beautiful! consider adding inexpensive white twinkle lights too. it makes it magical.
