Dreaming of a Dazzling Green Theme Wedding

When you hear people talking about the color green, you hear things like groundedness, growth, connection to the earth. And none of those things are wrong.

But in weddings, green's got a feel all its own, and that feel is fresh, slightly preppy, and above all, modern.

If you're reading this, you've probably found yourself smitten with that look that's unique to the green flower families.

For example: green-tipped hydrangeas and chrysanthemum buttons, green hypericum berries and chartreuse roses, even green anthuriums and callas: they look amazing, and leave you wanting more.

Green Weddings -1 Pink and green's a winning combination that grabs many brides right out of the gate. They're nearly opposites on the color wheel, which makes them deeply satisfying together.

And combined, they have a signature freshness that makes them equally at home in the fun-loving West Coast, deep Deco Miami, or the super-saturated Caribbean.

Green Weddings - 2

And perhaps even more so than all of the above? The preppy East. Especially when in a garden or a great airy tent near the beach, the East Coast wedding seems to be home base for this beguiling combination. Green and pink says "daytime," "cocktail length bridesmaids gowns," and an absolutely charming sense of understated fun.

Green Weddings - 3

Of course, brides have a wealth of choices beyond pink when it comes time to partner up green.

Purple, for example, injects a subtle sense of mystery. So does dialing back from lime green to a more Mediterranean olive. And once you've gone with olive, that invites some super-sophisticated pairings, such as bronze or copper.

Equally beautiful is a shade of green paired with some black and white ... say, a lovely damask or toile.

Green Weddings - 4

And deep chocolate brown makes another gorgeous showcase for green. Its grounded nature takes the green theme well into fall, and — if you want it to — more formal territories. Plus, this combo's easier to adapt to indoor evening affairs.

Sage green, olive green, apple green, sour apple, lime green, hunter, chartreuse ...

... which distinctly gorgeous shade of green are you going with?

Hey, I am doing a clover green with a very light pink scheme…the biggest problem I am having now is trying to find the right shade of green since I can’t seem to find a ‘clover’ green napkin…any advice?

    • stacey

      Stacey,
I would search my local table linen and napkin rental businesses. They should have the color your after and you can renting napkins are inexpensive. If you can’t find clover napkins, try looking for a print napkin in shades of green including clover/apple green. other wise i would have white napkins and have pink favor boxes with clover green ribbon, then add white or pink menu/program with clover green writing. You may like this…

You could also use all pink and white with green, pink, white florals. Google pink and green wedding reception for ideas.

    Hello,
I have a question…I love green and always planned on having a dusty green, antique rose, ivory/champagne colour scheme. However, to keep everyone happy I got dark blue bridesmaids dresses. Its a winter wedding and I could get maybe champagne wraps for the girls to lighten their outfits up a bit. What do you think?

hi i just want to ask, what color best suits if both is a garden and a beach venue? im confused on two colors whether to go for forest green or sea green combined with gold as accent…
thanks hope to hear from u :)

Great advice. i found my ideal wedding from the Wedding deep link on green and gold. Can i get more pictures of the BM in the green dresses with jackets – my wedding is 2012 in April.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Lucy,
If you could tell me which green dresses they were i would be happy to help!! Thank you!!

I am having a spring beach wedding with only 3 bridesmaids. I have no idea what to do for bridesmaid dress colors. I do know that I’d like them all to be different colors, do you think I could just do a general pastel theme and let them all pick or should it be more narrowed down to maybe greens/blues or pinks/peaches? I don’t know if the greens/blues will look washed out against the ocean? I need help!!!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Maria,
Love the pastels. Find a shade that suits their skintones and possbly have their bouquets a different color each mtching their dress. Then yours can be the mix of all. Go to intimate weddings website and search Mary and Dan’s destination wedding in mexico. It wouldnt paste the link. I hope it helps, since they are all in different pastels. ;)

  8. sonya

I need help the wedding colors are olive green and gold. I can’t decide on the colors for the table should they be olive green or gold or white and gold.
What color would compliment olive green ?

    Thank you

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Sonya,
Could I get a look at your venue, so I can see what would work best? Thanks!!

  9. vanessa

hi Stacey, so we had a big change of plans on the wedding, we changed the venue, here is a pic of the place, do you think I stay with their ivory tablecloths, or should I just use like an apple green satin round tablecloth and everything else ivory? or stay with their ivory linens and then use coral/guava satin napkins? I will use their centerpieces, which are white, so would like to add a bit of color to the venue on my day.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      vanessa,
Wow, that picture is very beautiful!! I would keep the ivory linens and have colored napkins and keep it like the above pic. That is very nice. Pulling in only green napkins would be just as beautiful as green linens and still pack the same punch. ;) If your heart is set on the green linens then you still can’t go wrong eitherway. :cheer:

      • vanessa

thanks, I still have my guava satin napkins, but wasn’t sure if I do the napkins, or get the satin round tablecloths. I am so undecided.

        • vanessa

here is the satin apple green tablecloth, I want to go with either napkins or either tablecloth. What do you think would look best?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          vanessa,
Okay, I dont know how I missed the part about the guava napkins, yes in that case the green linens with the guava napkins and white centerpieces would look very nice. Keep your plates white adding the silverware. You could even wrap a matching green tie around napkins. Keep programs/menu white with a colored writing such as coral or green.

  10. vanessa

Still haven’t decided on centerpiece, as I am doing it all on my own. Here is an idea, what do you think? should I go without the candles or votives??

  11. vanessa

HI, I really need help deciding my colors. Our venue has its wall colored dark orange, so I want to go wiht apple green, coral and ivory. Do you think this will look good. Here is a pic of the place.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Vanessa,
You have picked a great color scheme for your venue.
      * some pics
If using orange florals, just use light and dark shades mixed with green. Possibly use a beautiful shade of green linens.

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Vanessa,
        * more pics

        • vanessa

Hi stacey, thanks very much for your ideas. I ended up buying the apple green linens for the tables. organza for the tables and satin sashe for the chairs, now just have to decide on my centerpiece. Thanks a lot!! I could throw ivory and apple green silk petals around centerpiece?? ivory plates? do you think i should go with ivory napkins or coral napkins?? thanks

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Vanessa,
I think the coral or the ivory would both be fine, I do love the coral. I think it would be beautiful. If you do this then have a mix of white, coral, and a touch of green in the florals. or you could do white candles and have the blended colors in rose petals.
          * look at this, since you have green linens, you could have matching green napkins with coral prgrams tucked inside. white plates and accessories.
          * some other ideas

        • vanessa

thanks for your help!! appreciate it~

        • vanessa

          hi stacey,
Its so hard to find the perfect coral I am looking, my ribbons are a bit darker, more like a guava, my shoes I ordered are from David’s bridal and more like a guava, my napking are a bit lighter(more like coral, but still almost like the guava). Do you think my colors will still work out well? apple green, guava and ivory. I’m worried my colors will clash, I hope not, will just not use to much green, I am having it mostly for table linens…. what do you think?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          vanessa,
It should be fine. Use shades of corals from light to dark with some green and maybe some white to pull it all together, in your centerpieces.
          like this bouquet..
          http://www.reception-wedding.com/summer_wedding_flowers.htm
Unless you are going for a vibrant look, then have the florals mainly whites and some green with a touch of shades of corals.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Vanessa,
          just found this…
          http://eventaccomplished.wordpress.com/2011/01/12/real-wedding-a-fall-wedding-at-the-meridian-house-part-2/

This really shows how it can look. Nice isn’t it?

        • vanessa

my centerpieces are going to be floating candles with petals scattered on a roudn mirror. I do want to put a flower in the vase, then the floating candle, but not sure what color flower to put. thanks

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Vanessa,
I would pull in some coral petals/flowers to make it pop and to go with your napkins, to pull the look together, balance it out with white plates, candles, placecards etc.

    Hi there,

Im getting married in june 2012 in italy, in either the tuscan country side or verona country side with a garden ceromony and reception. Im lovin the idea of a sage green/ivory/gold as ive always wanted mint but i think it clashes to much with a garden wedidng. Im only having around 30 guests so only small and intimate. Any ideas will be great as my head is like a scrap book and dont know where to start! :? thank you! x

  15. Jacque

    Hi,
I’m having my wedding on November 11th, 2011! I have soooo many ideas, my colors are chocolate brown, sage and granny smith apple green. I am the outdoors type and so is my fiance. We are giving out little evergreen seedlings as favors. Our wedding and reception will be held in the same place, 5 Rivers Alabama Delta Resource Center. Please give me any ideas. I won’t have BMs my two older brothers and my two younger sisters are going to stand up with me . Thank you :D

  16. Roxanne Charles

    Hi Stacy
My fiance and I are planning to tie the knot on Dec 26th, 2011 in the Caribbean (no winter) :D . I’ve been playing around with some colours in my head and decided that we go with shades of blue with a splash of yellow. We were also looking at the outdoors- garden wedding (both ceremony and reception at the same site). Any ideas with these colours in mind?
    Thanks

  17. Jessica

Hi, I have just started planning my wedding (tentative for sept 2012). I have been looking at all of the possible color schemes, and I really want a light green with chocolate brown theme but I need another color that pops and was thinking about purple? Should I use lots of different shades of purple if I use the same shade of green and brown? What do you think? Thanks!!! :)

  18. Amanda

Well, my fiance and I haven’t made a date yet but I’m trying to put together colors now, lol! So far I’m thinking about a birthstone themed thing, so my colors for us would be garnet (for him), peridot (for me), and a splash of pink to symbolize our daughter (she’s garnet too). But….I have to have black too, it’s my favorite color! I just need some ideas to be able to put these together. Got any ideas? :D

    • stacey@favorideas

      Amanda,
Those colors would be stunning in the florals with black dresses and balck tuxes or suits. Think black and white bringing the colors in the centerpieces.
      * like these florals

      • stacey@favorideas

        Amanda,
        * this is so beautiful and would fit all seasons
( I actually think something like this wedding would really be perfect, all the colors blend so well!)

        • stacey@favorideas

          Amanda,
If pulling in the black with the above florals then wrap the bm bouquets with black satin ribbon, letting them each carry a solid color-one red, one green-one pink, then you carry the mix. Black or white linens would be beautiful with this with alternate black or white napkins. Bringin in white programs with black writing etc. You could even do all white linens with the black and white programs and add black sashes to chairs. Depends on your venue.

I am getting married July 3rd with an outdoor, night, wedding as well as the reception! I am trying to do the rustic chic theme! our colors are taupe, some shade of green, and ivory! We are using lots of white flowers with greenery, mason jars with flowers/tea candles and there will also be lights all in the trees and mason jars with lights hanging from the trees! I am struggling with what color of dresses to have my BM wear? I am doing something a little different, they get to pick out their dress, jewlery, and shoes. I am just going to tell them what shade! I love the mix matched, layed back look! I just don’t want it to look like a mess! Can you give me some suggestions on what color green will go with this theme as well as the taupe! I board would even be wonderful ;)

  20. Kris

Hi, I’m geting married in January 2012 and the colors we are thinking are chocolate, cream, and olive green. I would also like to have some golden undertones involved. I am having a hard time finding color boards that incoroporate all these colors together and would appreciate some help. For bridesmaids I would like them to have olive dresses with chocolate & cream accents. Groomsmen to wear chocolate tuxes with cream shirts and olive ties. I am also trying to envision what types of flowers will be in season and inexpensive in those color tones. I would be ok with just cream flowers, but I want some wow factor. Any ideas appreciated!

  21. Angie

Anyone have pics of Rasberry & Clover Green Flowers/Decor?

How do you think silver would look as an accent color with these 2 color combinations?

  22. sarahrose

Hi stacey. Were getting married dec of 2011, 10th to b exact. It will be an afternoon to evening wedding of which church ceremony will start at 4pm then reception immediately follows in an indoor venue.
I would really have olive green as our motif and fiance likes it as well.. but I am having a hard time in choosing the right shade of pink to combine with our olive green and pistachio green as main and accent colors, respectively.
Do u thnk salmon pink or champaigne pink will give justice? Thanks vry much in advance.

Btw, the reception venue is plain with just gold chandeliers and I love the intimacy effect of the lights.
I am more of a fair-skinned, is it ok to wear an ecru colored wedding gown?
I will b delighted to receive ur response :D

  23. gina

stacey, im getting married next year july 2011. the reception is in a garden… we want green (olive or dark green) with an accent of yellow & red… what do you think? here is the attched of the reception…

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Gina,
I think your color scheme would work very well.
      * check this out

    • gina

      stacey,

tanx a lot! that was great! but we are thinking of olive green with white acent…
i want the BM to wear with the olive green & with a yellow accent on it? how? then the FG will wear the same color. Also what is nice for the grooms upper shirt? I want the Gm to weara cream trouser…what u think? tanx a lot!

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Gina,
You could add a yellow sash to the olive dress or just have yellow and red bouquets against the dresses( which would be more elegant and a better preference) For the groom have him in all cream and then have the gm in cream trousers with olive shirts. I think it would look more pulled together.

  24. Dupe

I’ll be getting married May 2011. my colors are olive green, white and gold. please what do you think about the color combination?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Dupe,
      Oh I love it!
      * some pics
      * random green and gold pics

      • Dupe

wow! thanks Stacey. i again came up with the idea of ivory instead of white. i want my fiance and i to be in ivory color dresses but he prefers a black suit,ivory/white shirt with olive and gold color tie.is it ok? Bride maids will be in olivine dresses with gold shoes and jewelries.my bouquet will be a mix of olive green, gold/chocolate brown, ivory and pink. need your suggestions and ideas. love you

  25. Summer Wright

Hi… I am stuck lol. I love love love the idea of the green and pale pink with brown. I have a vision of the antique rose, very whimsical style. Because I am having an outdoor wedding in oct 2011 at a plantation style mansion, I dont wanna go over board with too much pink in the fall, but I feel that with brown and olive green only, it NEEDs a pop of color with the pale pink. Any advice would be FANTASTIC. Thank you soooo sooooo much.

  26. tiffany

i need help picking colors!! my dress is ivory grroms wearing his army dress uniform and brides maids are wearing clover green which is my main color. grooms men are wearing tux standard tux can you please help

    • tiffany

my wedding is june 19 2011 sorry forgot that information below. and im not too sure how to really decorate its a basic hall where i so all the decorating

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Tiffany,
What color is the hall? Is it pretty neutral? Like beiges and whites? If so, then what are some other colors you like, I want to compliment the green in the florals. Is there a particular color you and/or your fiance like? Also will there be a theme? There are loaods of colors that look great with this color. Blues really pop, soft yellows are nice, etc.

  27. Mitzi

I’m getting married in January. I’ve posted a picture of the location. I’m wearing the groom and I are both wearing ivory, the BM wearing a white shirt w/ ivory pants, BM wearing Hunter green and GM wearing hunter green shirt w/ ivory pants.
I don’t know what colors to use for the decorations. I’m thinking that I need another color to tie them all in.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Mitzi,
The first color that came to mind was a creamy shade of orange. But with the pic there are alot of colors that would work. Do you have any certain colors youlove? Also are there any florals in bloom at the location, it looks like a warm climate. So I wanted to make sure.

      • Mitzi

        Stacey,

It’s Jamaica. I’m not sure what florals are in bloom at that time. It is a garden but there are falls on the left hand side which isn’t seen in the pick. I was actually hoping to have the ceremony in front of the falls but it would have to be a very small ceremony with just maybe 10 people max to fit in the space.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Mitzi,
Since the location is already beautiful, consider having a few floral arrangements on top( of some shorter columns) white lights in the trees, scattered candles, and rose petals on the floor around the water fountain. If it were me I wouldn’t use alot. You coudl also consider black wrought iron candelabras with candels in globes, it would work very well. It would mimic the metal from teh fountain. Do you have a link I could see so I could get a better idea of what it needs?

        • Mitzi

The link is above for the location. In my picture around the fountain is painted red but on their website it is white. I guess that was the color before.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Mitzi,
Could I get a link to the website? Thanks!

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Mitzi,
How beautiful!! After looking a the pics, I think a tropical color like a shade of pink or orange would be beautiful. I would look at the gardens and pick only one color from a flower and use it as my accent. Like hunter green and pink or orange.
*THIS would be stunning with hunter green. With color it adds more to an area without “alot” of decor. Especially in an outdoor setting.

Add candles with these colors and you have a gorgeous wedding. I love the pic of the tables by the fountain. And that waterfall is stunning. Let me know what you think. Again, instead of alot of outdoor decor, I would use color instead in teh bouquets, etc.

        • Mitzi

Thank you. I love those colors especially the orange.

:D ;) :P   :? :love2:    more »
