A Pink & Green Wedding

Brides who want a fresh and trendy look for the sunny months are flocking to pink and green in droves. And that's no surprise: for many of us, these two hues are pretty much the ultimate when it comes to a look that's playful and contemporary, feminine yet still flexible enough to fit fifty subtly different moods.

But wait: didn't pink once belong to hopelessly girly-girl brides who had to go by the book?

Even if that was ever the case, today's revved-up pink and green are modern dynamos, urging each other on to ever-higher heights.

Don't get us wrong, pink and green doesn't have to be all about setting new trends. Play it softly, and you have a classic English garden theme you might find in your mother's wedding album (one that you're sure to still swoon over!).

But this combo can also drive you to color outside the box. Which is why you see brides turning up the heat with greens like lime or honeydew, and pinks that border on fuchsia. In short, you can take these two anywhere: from Newport Beach to Negril and everywhere in between.

This theme calls for some true guilty pleasures when it comes to blooms and other flora: pink peonies or zingy tulips, blushing roses or stargazer lilies; and for green, kermit mums, cymbidium orchids and hypericum berries, small green apples or zesty limes.

Ribbon and ties tend to play a big role in this wedding, too, from bridesmaids' gowns to chair sashes. On the modern side, you might also find citrus fruit piled up in clear eiffel vases, or polka dots that jazz up the bridesmaid or flower girl attire. Tea-length gowns are popular for the 'maids in this warm-season wedding. So are fun, casual touches like cafe-style menus done in pink and green chalk, or candy buffets filled with treats for both the eye and the palette, in pink and chartreuse.

What posed your biggest challenge: picking the right shade of green? Did you settle on citrus, peridot, celadon or something altogether different? Pink for the bridesmaids, or did you dream up some kind of clever combo, involving flirty pastel sashes?

sarah,
try here, they usually have the latest colors and great matches!!
*men’s warehouse

if theydont then head to davidsbridal.com they have alot of colors too for the guys. if you cant find the right lime green, then dont have it in a color. if they are in black then have the vest in black, just add the fun of watermelon and lime in the boutonnieres or just a colored tie.

i have a question for stacey — those pictures that you posted of the pink and green wedding, the one of the reception in particular. is that from your wedding? i’m curious b/c one of my coworker’s mom recently sent us a wedding album of that exact wedding, and if it is your wedding i must ask you –where did you get your lime green chairs?? i’m having my wedding in key west next july and i simply can not live w/o lime chairs.

btw, that wedding was the most fabulous event i have ever seen, if i wasn’t already set on pink and green, it would’ve changed my colors completely.

thank you!!

PINK AND GREEN color theme
I am going to have a garden wedding and outdoor reception in early Sept. I ve decided that im going to use either lime, kiwi, or honeydew green as my primary color and adding fuschia to make things more colorful. Also, its easier to find the Kiwi green or Lime green vests for the Grooms men bec. they refused to wear any kinds of pink . As far as the reception goes, I think im going with Kiwi green table runners on white table cloths..and alternating pink and green sashes on the chairs. Centerpieces will have diff. hues of PinK :love2: .

I am planning a June wedding and really want to go with the pink and green theme. However, our reception hall is blue and gold. Any ideas of how to incorporate these colours together?

megan,
it can work as long as you add blue into your palette. dont worry so much about the gold. it will be the “metallic” accent. just use gold instead of silver in your jewelry and metals throughout the ceremony and venue. my suggestion is have the bridal party in blue (navy is a beautiful and practical choice for guys and girls) then have the pink and green bouquets against the blue.) in the reception area. keep this simple. you will not want to clash. you will need enough blue to counteract the pink and green. i would use the darker pinks and greens if they go in the ceremony or a blend from light to dark pink with spring green foilage.

in the reception if the blue is bold go pale on the centerpieces pull the light pink with green from the bouquets and it will blend. it will keep it elegant unless you are going for a more fun look! with you all dark pink bouquet(just say) and the bm bouquets plus the bout. etc. you will have the color scheme you want without it going overboard. for your cake have the blend of colors on a golden cake. pinks, greens, and blues. done elegantly.

* Cranberry, Pistachio, Navy ( i like the color scheme here, just lighten according to the room)

*Inspiration Board # 22: Navy Blue, Pink Silver & Ivory
your actually in luck cause pink and green pop against blue.

i will try to put together a mood board for you. do you have a pic or a website i could see the venue?

megan,
remember it is not uncommon to have the ceremony in one color scheme and the reception in another. some weddings are solemn(pastels etc) then at the reception it is ready for a party! with colors in deep shades from red to deep purple etc.

Stacey,
Thank you very much for all of your tips and suggestions. You were able to confirm my thinking that this colour palette can in fact work. Unfortunately I do not have an electronic picture of the venue. The blue is more steel toned than a brillant royal or peacock blue would be, so I think your ideas will work well. Thanks again for your help!

Me toooo! Here is our exact color palette. I think most people might not be too fond of the pink, green, and brown combo…but when you see it together it actually looks beautiful!

I am doing the pink green and chocolate brown for my wedding and doing the green apples with pink roses for the centerpieces but I am not sure how to keep the apples from floating and how exactly you would arrange the flowers. Any ideas?

stefanie, love this simplicity..yet big statement.

i love the pink gerbera daisy. i hope these ideas help. consider a gorgeous pink wedding arch with dripping greenery and a range of pink gerbera daisy shades. it will add depth with the contrast of pinks. 3 different pinks should do the trick. then carry this into your reception centerpieces while keeping aisle florals and other florals in one solid shade of pink.

heh susan, google image pink and white wedding dress and also pink wedding dress. if you wear solid pink have girls in green dresses you can google image those too. but if you want white and pink put them in pink dresses or green. bridal stores like davids bridal has what you need. but if your on a tight budget dont overlook those great special occasion boutiques even department stores. i have seen specialty department sections that offered great dresses.

you can also buy a white dress and wear what is the rage now. sashes. goes for the bridesmaids too.google image pink and green bridesmaid dresses and pink and green wedding party.even pink and green wedding dress. it shows different pics.

Alice,
I am having a pink and green wedding, but the guys don’t really want to wear frilly pink or green, so they will be wearing classic black and white. They will have a small hint of color in the boutonnieres. As far as the pink and green gos, it is more thought of as a spring color combo, but it would work for fall and if that is what you want, go for it. Good Luck!

my wedding is in sept of this year, colors are pink and orange with a little green. i saw the cutest centerpieces! it was a watermelon cut in half with daisys arranged in it. no need for water and it looked simple enough that even somebody inexperienced with flower arrangements could do it on there own.

what is more cool for a march 2009 garden wedding: ppink and green or orange and green?

Hmm, Kaye … pink & green has been done many times, it might even be the first color combo people think of for a spring wedding, but I still LOVE it.

Orange is definitely more of a “right now” hue, I am thinking a softer orange for a spring wedding tho — like Creamsicle orange or a soft coral. Actually I think you could make those (orange & green) your two main colors and sneak in a little pink as an accent and it would look gorgeous. But, since orange and green are such strong colors together I would use a lot of a neutral such as white or ivory to soften them.

I’m doing pink and orange with green as accents. I’ve found these amazing small potted flowers in those exact colors! Money is tight but I’m getting them for $5 for 4! I don’t know if you can find them online, but I got them at Decor Direct in Tennessee. Search for it online and you might be able to find something similar. The designer name is Jim Marvin.

Cheryl,
Taupe or clay colored suits would look great with your color combo, especially if it is a spring or summer wedding. It would keep the look simple and crisp if you paired them with white shirts and green European style ties. Have fun planning. There are alot of great pink-green ideas!

Has anyone heard of any floral companies that rent potted orchids in NYC or the surrounding area? There is a place that does this near where I work in VA, but I am from NY and wondering if anyone had any tips.
