Firefighter Theme Weddings

Where to start when planning a firefighter wedding? How about the black, red, yellow and brass of firefighter regalia and firetrucks. See if you can marry in the fire hall, ideally with a firetruck as your transportation to the ceremony, or as your getaway car.

Check your local prop shop, who might be able to rent you special items to add zing to your decor. What could be more romantic than strolling down an aisle lined with flower and tulle-draped hydrants?

For high drama, walk underneath an arch of pike poles held by the groomsmen (donning full dress blues) after the officiant declares you husband and wife.

Cake & Cake Toppers

Fortunately, firefighter cake toppers aren't hard to find. Try JW Caketops or Colorado Carla.

As for the cake itself, your choices are endless. Gorgeous possibilities: a red velvet cake hidden in demure white icing. Or consider a sleek white cake with crisp bands of red satin ribbon, or a cake topped with orange/rust calla liles.

Want a more whimsical approach? We've seen a traditional white cake topped by a traditional white bride, with a ladder leading down the cake to the fire truck in front.

As for the groom's cake, popular choices include fire trucks, helmets, badges, dalmations and the Maltese Cross.

Setting the Scene

Many firehalls are built with gorgeous neo-classical flair. If yours is, bring the feel to your reception hall by renting grand fluted pillars for the corners of the room.

Look for table linens with a reflective quality. Shimmering yellow fabric on white linen is luxurious. Go whimsical by edging one or two table coverings in reflective tape.

A few types of flowers seem tailor-made for this event: roses, and callas. Both come in fire-tinged shades, starting with yellow or orange and reddening at the tips. Tie bunches of these with tulle swags for gorgeous pews, then tie off the center aisle with caution tape.

For placecards, look for firefighter-related ornaments (hydrants, dalmations, Maltese Crosses or buy Matchbox-style fire trucks. Wrap attractive copper or silver wire around the middle of the ornament, then bring up and form into a simple coil to create your own placecard holders.

Sew or glue firefighter charms to your ringbearer pillow, candles, ribbons, guest book, cake serving set, and bridal bag.

Borrow a friend's Dalmation and draft him into service. Or if you want to stick with the two-footed type, give him a pillow with a Maltese emblem or firefighter charm. Alternative: have two more ringbearers walk up the aisle with torchlights.

Lean aerial ladders against the walls, and link them together with dramatic swags of tulle. Use a shiny pair of firefighter boots as a "wishing well" or a floral vase for your guestbook table. Spice up the afterparty (and picture ops) by slipping on a shorter, saucy dress — at at least for a few minutes, a firefighter helmet with a veil.

The Spice of Life

Want to add some zip to your dinner? Try hot dogs with five-alarm chili, habanero sauce, firehouse stew, flame-broiled steaks or chicken, Autumnal Fire beer. Or go for the traditional fare but serve eye-catching signature drinks like red apple martinis (apple vodka, apple juice and grenadine syrup).

Sizzling Ideas for Favors

Favors for this one are simple — and cute. Start with a crisp favor box you'll tie off with a contrasting ribbon (red and white, yellow and white, chocolate brown and red). Then, fill with tongue-in-cheek treats like like Atomic Fireballs, Hot Tamales, Red Hots or candy fire extinguishers. Or set out these items in a red, white and yellow candy buffet.

Other possibilities: rolls of Lifesavers (get it?), personalized hot sauce, personalized barbeque sauce, or miniature flashlights on keychains.

Music to Their Ears

Call up your local Scottish/Irish musicians for live bagpipes at your wedding. Also, consider the Backdraft Soundtrack, the Ladder 49 Soundtrack, and The Rising by Bruce Springsteen.

Other ideas:

"Believe" by YellowCard
"Into the Fire" by Dokken
"Standing Outside the Fire" and "When You Come Back to Me Again" by Garth Brooks
"The Fireman" by George Strait
"Fireman's Prayer" by Plainfolk
"Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash
"Burning Down the House" by The Talking Heads

well my daddy has been a firefighter since i was 12, and my mom was one as well from when i was 5, swore i would never marry a fireman…. but then i fell for my best friend since kindergarden, and he is a fireman, even better in a little town called Golden WHERE WE MET! cheesy right? so I know getting a truck wont be a big deal, i am just unsure how i feel about it! I am doing 98% white with splashes of red. we are standing with my best friend and his brother, thats it, my 4 year old son, and my 2 year old niece are doing flowers/rings. I found a nice white dress for my niece and i think i will put my son in a shirt that says KEEP BACK 200 FEET. I am wearing a simple white cotton dress (this is a VERY casual wedding) hubby is wearing his dress uniform. maid of honor is wearing red, and unsure what to put best man in (NO tuxes, maybe a golden fire shirt???) I am using jars with flowers as my center pieces but i will add fire flare. I am unsure where i stand on a cake topper yet. and i LOVE LOVE LOVE the lifesaver idea for favors! any one else got an idea? vote? ect? i’d love to hear from anyone and see pics!!! you can email me at niki_po_potamus@yahoo.com :) thank you and congrats to everyone else!!!!!!!!!!

I am getting married in July 2009. I am a firefighter and my fiance is a police officer. We are doing a themed fire/police wedding. Our colors are red for fire dept. and navy for police. I am having a difficult time for center pieces and decorations. Any help greatly appreciated. I have searched all over the internet and can find lots of firefighter things, very difficult to find police items.

One thing you have to do is to focus on the main Theme and impliment the other into your theme. Say the you can find fireman items just have the police theme at the entrance like someone dress as a police at the door of the reception, yellow tape taping off a scene with police items. Get the idea think about firemen and police being at a crime scene with a fire.

Ann, a cute idea I’ve seen is to incorporate donuts in some way … maybe a donut “cake”, see google images for ideas, or sometimes couples will hand out the two-packs of krispey kremes at the end of the night … just an thought!

Another idea for centerpieces, if you want to really keep the theme but keep it classy, is collect some nice looking police badge replicas and firefighter medallions. I would get some matching glass vases from the dollar store and hot-glue a satin ribbon around them (red or navy) and hot-glue the badges to the vase over that, mixing up your police and firefighter emblems. HTH! You could fill the vases with red or blue water (I wouldn’t mix them) and fill with white flowers.

I am wearing a apple red dress with a black jacket. Flower girl wearing a white dress with apple red bow. The guys are wearing nlack tuxes but wonderyng what color of vest they should wear. Also wondering about flowers. MOst of her reception decorations are red. Some one frowned when I told them about the black dresses. What do you think. Any one have pictures wirh these colors

linda,
love the black it is soooo classic and rewearable. i wouldnt worry about anyone frowning about this. black is so popular as it should be! its timeless. with so much color i would recommend the simple black on black tux. it is very handsome with a red bout. i think it might be to much going on with 2 guys in red vests and 2 in black. so keep it traditional classic all around. your pictures will thank you for it! red flowers would look best. keep it simple all flowers in one color in one type and use en masse. that way it wont add to much to it, it will look more polished. all white flowers would work too. but i would stick with all red. an all red wedding with the bridal party breaking the color contrast up with the black would look good.

just dont go to much with the red. adding greenery to the flowers(which is what i would use alot of) will give it the break it needs and be very nice. so much controversy has happened ovet price of roses but in bulk they are still the cheapest. because it is the same type of flower, i read this in an article with ordering flowers in 1 type only. it saves $$$. another color to add to the red would be a very pale almost white yellow with pale orange. youcan also break up the reds by using a monochromatic color scheme(shades of the same color light to dark) this would look great! if using all red, just have white linens if you want some more contrast without it being to much. although red on red is wow!!

Hi Girls,

I think too much “fire themed” stuff will look tacky. I just got married and had a few touches here and there. We had black dresses with red roses for the bridesmaids, a vintage firetruck for photographs. The bonbonniere was clear boxes with black tissue paper underneath filled with gold chocolates and wrapped in a red bow, they had a tiny firefighter charm attached. Here are some pics.

My fiance and I are having a burning building at our wedding. The bottom layers are going to be fake, wood boxes with fondant. The top layer will be cake for us to cut and we will be serving sheet cakes. We will also have a block of dry ice in the bottom block with tubing to the top to give the illusion of smoke. I’ll post pics after the wedding but it’s not until Aug 22. Good Luck!

brandy,

google search firefighter wedding invites.
choose your color scheme based on firefighter colors and paramedic colors ( which is usually blue or green right!?!?!) then pick those colors for your flowers. blue and yellow look wonderful for example. just add touches of the two careers instead of making it complete theme, it may take away from the elegance of the ceremony/reception.
*Chemical Highs: a Medical Chic Theme Wedding ( great ideas here) also google search medical wedding theme
*grooms cake
for the brides cake have the firefighter wedding cake. or have a firefighter/emt cake topper go here for custom designs for very reasonable!!
*cake toppers
for example on favors use small silver buckets with assorted “medical favors-candy and add red hots etc.

My daughter is getting married in oct09 and is doing a firefighter theme wedding. We are looking for some centerpiece ideas that are easy to do and not real expensive. We are needing for about 25 tables. We thought of fire hats with flowers but when we ask the florist about doing this for us she quoted us a price of about $15 apiece (we would be buying the hats.)

* Fire and Water

and last the pic(red petals) i posted, you could place a 1 firehat in center or add the colored water in cylinders and floating candles in addition to this.

I am a firefighters wife and a sister to a florist. we came up with a cute idea that you could make youself. Ask your daughter fire department to get you some of the plastic hats that they use for promoting fire prevention week. Then put a fake candle (the ones that flicker like real ones) in the middle and put rose pedals from silk flowers that can be found at garage sales inside around the candle. You could also find some cristal beads and glue them to some of the petals for more glowing affect. Hope you like this idea. If you have any questions just email me. Good Luck Deanna

Hey Ladies,

Any ideas where I can find firefighter stationary? I want to print the fireman’s prayer and the fireman’s wife’s prayer and put them at the place settings on the tables at the reception.

Thanks
Melony
