Firefighter Theme Weddings

Where to start when planning a firefighter wedding? How about the black, red, yellow and brass of firefighter regalia and firetrucks. See if you can marry in the fire hall, ideally with a firetruck as your transportation to the ceremony, or as your getaway car.

Check your local prop shop, who might be able to rent you special items to add zing to your decor. What could be more romantic than strolling down an aisle lined with flower and tulle-draped hydrants?

For high drama, walk underneath an arch of pike poles held by the groomsmen (donning full dress blues) after the officiant declares you husband and wife.

Cake & Cake Toppers

Fortunately, firefighter cake toppers aren't hard to find. Try JW Caketops or Colorado Carla.

As for the cake itself, your choices are endless. Gorgeous possibilities: a red velvet cake hidden in demure white icing. Or consider a sleek white cake with crisp bands of red satin ribbon, or a cake topped with orange/rust calla liles.

Want a more whimsical approach? We've seen a traditional white cake topped by a traditional white bride, with a ladder leading down the cake to the fire truck in front.

As for the groom's cake, popular choices include fire trucks, helmets, badges, dalmations and the Maltese Cross.

Setting the Scene

Many firehalls are built with gorgeous neo-classical flair. If yours is, bring the feel to your reception hall by renting grand fluted pillars for the corners of the room.

Look for table linens with a reflective quality. Shimmering yellow fabric on white linen is luxurious. Go whimsical by edging one or two table coverings in reflective tape.

A few types of flowers seem tailor-made for this event: roses, and callas. Both come in fire-tinged shades, starting with yellow or orange and reddening at the tips. Tie bunches of these with tulle swags for gorgeous pews, then tie off the center aisle with caution tape.

For placecards, look for firefighter-related ornaments (hydrants, dalmations, Maltese Crosses or buy Matchbox-style fire trucks. Wrap attractive copper or silver wire around the middle of the ornament, then bring up and form into a simple coil to create your own placecard holders.

Sew or glue firefighter charms to your ringbearer pillow, candles, ribbons, guest book, cake serving set, and bridal bag.

Borrow a friend's Dalmation and draft him into service. Or if you want to stick with the two-footed type, give him a pillow with a Maltese emblem or firefighter charm. Alternative: have two more ringbearers walk up the aisle with torchlights.

Lean aerial ladders against the walls, and link them together with dramatic swags of tulle. Use a shiny pair of firefighter boots as a "wishing well" or a floral vase for your guestbook table. Spice up the afterparty (and picture ops) by slipping on a shorter, saucy dress — at at least for a few minutes, a firefighter helmet with a veil.

The Spice of Life

Want to add some zip to your dinner? Try hot dogs with five-alarm chili, habanero sauce, firehouse stew, flame-broiled steaks or chicken, Autumnal Fire beer. Or go for the traditional fare but serve eye-catching signature drinks like red apple martinis (apple vodka, apple juice and grenadine syrup).

Sizzling Ideas for Favors

Favors for this one are simple — and cute. Start with a crisp favor box you'll tie off with a contrasting ribbon (red and white, yellow and white, chocolate brown and red). Then, fill with tongue-in-cheek treats like like Atomic Fireballs, Hot Tamales, Red Hots or candy fire extinguishers. Or set out these items in a red, white and yellow candy buffet.

Other possibilities: rolls of Lifesavers (get it?), personalized hot sauce, personalized barbeque sauce, or miniature flashlights on keychains.

Music to Their Ears

Call up your local Scottish/Irish musicians for live bagpipes at your wedding. Also, consider the Backdraft Soundtrack, the Ladder 49 Soundtrack, and The Rising by Bruce Springsteen.

Other ideas:

"Believe" by YellowCard
"Into the Fire" by Dokken
"Standing Outside the Fire" and "When You Come Back to Me Again" by Garth Brooks
"The Fireman" by George Strait
"Fireman's Prayer" by Plainfolk
"Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash
"Burning Down the House" by The Talking Heads

Hi! My fiance is a firefighter and we are getting married Aug. 3, 07. I thought of a really cute idea that I’m really excited about. We are having our ring bearer drive a push petal firetruck down the aisle with the rings tied to the bell and he will be ringing the bell as he drives it down the aisle. I am also having firefighter charms sewn onto my garter. I bought a bag of an assortment of silver firefighter charms on ebay. Just thought I would share my ideas :D

Has anyone tied words into their marriage vows or ceremony regarding firefighting? I’m not finding any help.

At the former World Trade Center (where they’re rebuilding) you see red anthuriums woven into the fences. They are the perfect flower for firefighters because the red part, the flower, looks like the color/texture of a firefighter helmet and with the bright yellow center, the colors are perfect.

So we are having some anthurium arrangements at our wedding.

Here are some ideas.

Your ring bearer can wear a firefighter suit. They have them on the internet…Do a search for firefighter costumes or firefighter child suits. If your flower girls dress is white, you can add red, yellow or orange flowers to her dress or firefighter appliques

Center pieces - Use a plastic fire truck or plastic fire hat…cut a hole in the top and add silk flowers into the hole for a centerpiece.
You can use the mini water pails. If they are different colors, you can spray paint them to your color or paint them with a fire design. Add flowers and you have a centerpiece.
You can use child size black/yellow rain boots and add flowers for a centerpiece or even use a real firefighter boot.

Use red and yellow tulle wrapped/twisted together for decoration anywhere needed. You can also buy fire fabric for your cake table or where needed. (Chair covers, cake table, food table, head table…Ect…)

Favors; Lifesavers in the matchbook - or red hots wrapped in tulle - or buy a candy mold of fire trucks (search internet - ebay) and make your own Chocolate candy.

Use caution tape as pew bows or for bows/streamers anywhere needed.

Use child party fire hats as decorations.

Axe for your cake cutter….Check internet/ebay

Use firefighter stickers for anywhere needed, such as on your bubbles given to guests. Even stick them to the table covers or on any glass decorations/centerpieces.

Check the toy isle for firefighter items that you can use for decorations…. Axes, hats, trucks, stickers,

For our favors we bought red and orange mesh fabric to look like fire on every table filled with: hot tamales, atomic fireballs, red hots and lifesavers. wrapped in red ribbon with a saying that says “keep the fires burning” with our names and wedding date.

We are also using a fire boot and doing a “wish boot” instead of a wish bowl. it will say “Fill the Boot” with a poem and people can write down wedding advice for us on paper with their name on it, put it in the envelope, and stick their advice in the boot for us to read.

Another thing we are doing for our flowergilrs, Instead of carrying a regular basket, they will carry a plush fire engine basket that I found at hobby lobby, one girl will throw red flowers, the other girl will throw white flowers. though it would be something neat and different. :D

Me and my fiance are both firefighters and we as well are having that as a theme…well sort of. I am not going all out. Just having some subtle stuff. Like our Favors. They are match books, but because we can’t give people matches to play with, inside, there are two LifeSavers…get it?? We are making them ourselves with some paper ribbon (as the striker) and some stamps that have our names on them.
The fire Boot can be used for the “money dance”
I went with Silk flowers and was able to find some pretty cool ones in the fall. They start out yellow, go to orange and then to red. When they are all in a tight bunch…it looks like a ball of fire.
We are obviously having the reception at our new fire hall. We will have dinner in the truck bays and then go downstairs for the rest of the Party!!

I bought my firefighter wedding items on Ebay…GREAT PLACE>>>>Best prices on everything you need for a Firefighter wedding.
I saw a firefighter axe cake knife…At least I think I saw one. Just do a search for “Firefighter Wedding” and see what comes up at… http://www.ebay.com.

You have to become a member to buy, but that’s no big deal and you can sign up for Paypal.com to pay for your items if you want or just send Money Orders for the items you buy. Paypal is faster, because you use your debit card…pay for the item and they ship it faster then waiting on a Money Order.

You buy the items and it comes right to your door…What a deal…No running around like crazy.

Barbara,
We have run into the same problem with finding an axe cake cutter set, there aren’t too many options for firefighter themed weddings. You could try going to http://www.ourdesigns.com or http://www.galls.com and maybe purchasing a brand new hand held axe. I think the route we are going to go is just buying a basic cake cutter set, and decorating it with red & black, and also glueing firefighter charms onto them so they will go with the whole theme. I bought the firefighter charms at http://www.fairytaleweddingstore.com. they also have a few other firefighter wedding accessories. hope this helps :D
