Chocolate Brown Weddings

Once upon a time, 'chocolate brown' went by a variety of names in bridal world: cocoa. Espresso.

But now, it's like the most visible Hilton heir: Paris — just Paris. Everyone knows who you mean.

Chocolate Brown is the color that fuels any number of high-flying color schemes. It's the go-to hue, whether it's a fall wedding that needs a touch of naturalism, or a fresh concept by a "design progressive" bride armed with a Gocco press, a bucketful of Etsy bookmarks and shelves groaning with artisan papers.

In fact, chocolate brown is so successful, so flexible, so multitalented, so attractive in any combination, that occasionally people wish. It would. Go away.

Alas for the chocolate-tigued, that's a migration not likely to happen — at least not soon. The world's still crazy-in-love with chocolate, and all its savory cousins: coffee, mocha, tan. Its hoped-for heir apparent, steel gray, has made inroads ... but has yet to take the wedding world by storm.

And that might not happen right away, because among the neutrals — unlike gunmetal gray! — chocolate brown is warm. Inviting. Feminine, even.

Pair it with just about any imaginable pastel or bright tropical hue, and you've got intimate, instant chic.

How to Get Down With Brown

The first colors brides paired with chocolate brown — pink and baby blue — are still enormous hits. (Sorry, wedding planners!)

But later on in the craze, we started to see new hues: butter yellow, lime or apple green. And that original pink got bumped up to sizzling fuchsia. We saw ultra-warm pairings like salmon, peach and burnt orange take their cue. So did aqua and teal.

As royal purple and eggplant colonized the pages of Vogue, they too started flaunting their charms against a field of chocolate brown. So did lavender.

Now, cutting-edge weddings interweave brown with fire-engine reds, copper and oranges, adding exotic touches like pin-tucked linens and fringe. Sometimes, you see brown with burgundy, a dark but elegant pairing ... and sometimes with crisp, patterned black and white.

Beautiful Byways

To most eyes, it's the warm and 'poppy' colors that meld best with chocolate brown.

Still, there are blessed exceptions. Cool sage and brown launches the ultimate West Coast palette, especially with twigs or branches, bamboo, palm-leaf, handmade papers and other natural materials.

Also down with brown: monochromatics like champagne, khaki and cream. All this adds up to a Tuscan vibe that's positively royal. Just add dabs of gold, olive or brick.

Designing Brides

Everyone knows the traditional wedding: tulle, rose and shasta daisy affairs infused with lavender, pale yellow and other blushing hues.

Then, you've got naturalistic weddings — keyed to the blazing hues of a New England hillside in fall.

But plenty of times, chocolate brown weddings are a third type: those about pure design.

Here, you see all those sassy, style-infused hallmarks of modern events: patterns (paisleys, damasks, moroccan or henna-style, just to name a few!). And bright chunks of contrasting satin ribbon.

Then, you see cakes stacked in 'gift box' designs, or flaunting quilted, embossed or hand-painted fondant, ribbons, or graphic accents (polka dots, swiss dots, art nouveau swirls or preppy stripes, anyone?).

And modern centerpieces look sharp in this setting: think trays full of wheat grass studded with gerber stems. Or clear cylinders filled with 'drowning' florals and topped with a floating candle.

Papers are uber-important, too. As for invites? Spunky and graphic, if not outright letterpressed in some swanky coastal atelier.

In other words, chocolate brown weddings really are all about detail.

Dialing Up Table Details

Because brown functions as a neutral and can be dark in quantity, this wedding offers the perfect excuse to mix up table linens and centerpieces. Drape some tables with chocolate brown linens and others with cream or mocha, alternating overlays.

Then, for focal points, mix up your centerpieces in color and style. If your colors are pink and brown, work in some pale green and peach blooms to add depth to your palette. Use higher centerpieces on some tables, lower on others, and simple lanterns or hurricane lamps on still others.

Funkified Florals

Modern, youthful blooms look gorgeous in this context, such as gerber daisies, mini-callas or cymbidium orchids.

Want actual brown blossoms in your bouquets? Take a look at chocolate brown cosmos, hot chocolate mini-callas, or sultry leucadendrons, to name a few: all of which look fabulous with cream mini-callas or green orchids. Fiddleheads are another super-stylish accent.

For bridesmaids in brown, monochromatic cream bouquets in a tight posy style are simple but stunning.

Over-the-Top Touches

As always, a candy buffet looks terrific in a color-popping wedding like this one.

For fun photo ops outdoors, hand your bridesmaids some super-bright parasols in your alternate color and ask them to pop 'em. They'll look like free-wheeling flowers in pics.

And here's one fun last idea for chocolate brides: liven up your bridal attire with a pair of bright heels to match the theme: fuchsia, teal, or lime green!

hi!

i really like your website….it provides a lot of insight, too much perhaps that i’m getting crazy with the color scheme…i need help! my fiance and I both love the chocolate brown and apple/mint green color, could we add crimson red in the palette or is dark pink better? we’re getting married in July 2010 and i’m going to send the link of our venue…please…please.. please help us….without the colors, we couldn’t move forward…thanks a lot… http://www.weddingsatsplendido.com/

I think either color would work . . . your reception site has lots of wood and either color would work. Brown with red accents and just a touch of granny apple green would look very “fresh” . . . you could also go for a clean, sleek oriental look. Good Luck!

Brown tablecloth
brown or green napkins
white plates
red and green apple centerpice OR
green apple centerpiece w/red votives or red rose petals scattered on the table OR
a green and red floral centerpiece
The photo on the inspiration board is as close as I could find . . . .I think a little red would
in the centerpiece would make the table “pop”

you could have white linens and brown napkins which will look great! or have brown linens with white napkins. but i would have chocolate linens with pink accents and pull the white in the plates.

Hi there, I’m not getting married until 2011, but I’m trying to get a start on some planning. I’m stumped on colors. I had wanted lavender and pink, but I love the chocolate brown and pink color theme. I am having red tulips as my flower (its the first flower my fiance gave me). I would even mind having all colors, but wouldnt know how to incorporate them…it does seem like a lot of colors maybe. Any help on a decision would be EXTREMELY appreciated. :) Thank you so much.

melissa,
i wouldnt recommend searching for colors until you book your venue. You will want colors and style to go with your location. Which month are you getting married? Spring or Summer would be a great choice cause you could have a main color scheme of chocolate and white and pull in spring bouquets of different colors. Location is everything, it could be the venue wouldnt go well with multi colors depending on if it is ornate or simple. If you already have your venue, do you have a pic or link?

I love all the pictures and ideas you have for your weddings. I need some help. I am the mother of the bride and we live almost 1000 miles away from each other. I could really use some help trying to find my dress. She is doing chocolate and coral and I can’t seem to find the perfect dress. I am about a size 22W and 44 years old. I just can’t wear all the styles I am finding. Her wedding is in October….HELP!!!!!!

June,
here are some guidelines…
*dress style

you could wear a beautiful mocha dress with heels and jewelry. just make sure it suits your skintone, eye and hair color. you will be radiant. stick with the formality of the wedding.
* another great guideline
* the mocha suit on this page is what i am leaning to, if it suits your skintone;very elegant

Hello all,

Initially my fiance and I wanted the classy butter yellow, green, silver and white for our late spring wedding June 05,2010. We have decided to have a cocktail reception in a penthouse suite that is darker in color, yet beautiful… I am wondering if I should incorporate chocolate brown into my color scheme? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! I dont want to be tacky, but what about cupcake tier cakes with a cake for us to cut into?

Thanks again!!

JenL,
i think your right on target with your color scheme. i didnt see the reception area with tables?!? this decor would be best with cylinder vases and floating candles. it would compliment the style of the room very much. i wouldnt add any more brown to the room. i do love the ideas of fresh greens, crisp white, and creamy yellow. very simple glass bowls of fresh green hydrangea, white tulips, and creamy yellow roses would be great for this room. not to big on the centerpieces though. minimal touches would be best. the room is gorgeous as is. you can get away with white table linens, keep them clean and sleek, adding chocolate brown napkins would look great as well. it would look so good to take the flowers i suggested and submerge 1 of each in the cylinder with floating candle. this would be enough to make a statement. you could put small votives of pale yellow in glass votive holders. ( look for small glass holders of the thinner glass that looks like a very tiny cylinder vase). to add more ambiance have scattered cylinders in strategic spots. i suggested the flowers above for spring and a more clean, minimal flower.

this board i made has brown accents. when paired with enough light or bright colors it gives a very polished look which is needed for this venue.
* this will work perfectly too, it has a subtle loft feel to it.

Hi All

I have been impressed by all the comments posted and would like some assistance with colour schemes for our upcomming wedding. My dress is natural white colour ( super smooth paper silk) and I have seen beautiful chcolcate bridesmaids dresses. Can these colours work together? Our venue is retaurant and has a lot of wood and black chairs - I am worried it the colours may be too heavy or clash? I am big on clean and crisp. Please help.

Hi Stacey I dont have any photos of the venue as yet but there is a website with a few shots at http://www.musselbar.com.au We can use the black and white chairs or have them covered. I had intially thought crisp black, white and brown colour theme but since looking at your website I have seen some beautiful and subtle blue and brown combinations. Would you suggest other accents? Will the blacl and white chairs be too distracting? The dress (named lilly) can be found at http://www.samanthawynne.com.au/pages/default.cfm?page_id=40926at - Thanks for your help - you are amazing

I think those colors would be great together . . . but just to keep it from being too dark, punch up
the color scheme with some gold. Gold flatware, gold napkin rings, gold bows, gold votive holders,
or gold branches in the centerpieces. Use gold braided “rope” on the layers of the wedding cake. Use gold braided rope with tassels to bundle up material on the head table to make swags. Polished gold adds to the earthy warm-ness of the brown, or sparkly gold can add a little sparkle to make the brown “pop”.

HELP!! I am decorating for a wedding and the bridesmaid dresses are chocolate brown, the flowers are a rose color, almost fushia.
What color should the tablecloths be in the reception hall and also what color should the pew swags be and the pew bows in the church. She wants to use white tablecloths but I don’t know if they will look good since none of the flowers are white.

p. sapp,
actually white tablecloths will be perfect for fuschia flowers. it will lend a crisp, refreshing look. white will keep it simple, add creamy brown napkins and add a brown favor box with fuschia ribbon or an extra touch with one single fuschia flower at each placesetting. for the swags and bows, what color is the church? sometimes white is the better option due to it going with everything.

some links…
*wedding pics

have white chair covers with brown sashes, even consider brown table runners. let the fuschia pop only in the flowers, for a elegant look and warmness brown will lend to it. adding only pops of the brown will do the same or similar look a brown cloth will do.

*fuschia wedding
here is an example, it is simple elegance…
*love it

kayla,
hi again! i made you a board. since i was unsure of the type of wedding you’d have i made it romantic spring. if you want to make it more modern i am gonna give you a link so you can pull ideas from there.
i thought a simple table would be stunning. you can opt to have elegant brown napkins or put a champagne topper over luxurious brown linens. table runners are also an option. mixed rocks or colored crystals are great to pull in a lil’ color in centerpieces ( saveoncrafts.com). i chose a mixture of flowers in whites and champagne roses. you will see hydrangea but you dont have to use those. you can go with all one flower if you prefer. but i do suggest pulling in a lil color in the flowers. champagne roses can look a lil gold, so that is a plus. more modern? square vases or cylinder vases brimming with spring branches. have cylinders with candles down the aisle. in your reception, if your reception is plain doll it up with patterned linens. the simplest would be champagne adding a textured brown napkin. keep flowers simple and streamlined such as callas with curly willow( which will pull in more brown from stems) for the gold keep it accents only. favors, ribbons, etc. have amazing lanterns overhead. i will make you another board to show how it could look.

Hi ladies. First, I’d like to say how great it is that all of you women are on here to help us brides to be. I’ve read nearly all the comments on here and I think it’s great how you all give your time to those in need…including myself!

I’m getting married on September 18, 2010 and I’m having trouble with picking colors. I’m choosing my colors based on my invitations, which are DIYers. I attached a picture of the invitation. Now, my question is this: Since the invites are brown and beige, does that mean my dress has to be beige? Also, I know I love and want brown as my main color. Should I be choosing another color besides brown and beige? And if i’m choosing another color, what does that color go on? Flowers, dresses, etc?

Thanks for all that you do!

At some point, you’ll probably have to add in another
color . . .unless your going to have brown and beige
flowers with brown ribbon. My suggestion . . .
go see your florist, and have him/her pick flowers
that are appropriate for the season, AND that go with
your main color. Where to add them? Your flowers,
(bouquets, boutonierres, centerpieces), candles,
and if your like, programs, cake, linens, well . . .
pretty much anywhere you need a shot of color.
I love brown dresses . . . I think it looks good on almost any skin tone, is very classy (and classic!),
and adding just a touch of color punches it up a little
bit. Since your getting married in September, I’m
adding on some photos from my niece’s wedding last
September. Her b’maids wore mocha (dark brown)
and latte (beige). The bride is a redhead, so the brown also didn’t clash with her hair. Your invitations
are cute . . . good luck with your wedding.

lost in a sea of color,
the best thing to do here is you each pick a color. or look at your venue and see what colors compliment it, then make the details about the 2 of you. can you tell me a bit about your likes are and i will see if i can help! also when are you getting married? and what type of wedding do youwant? you can also combine the 2 colors schemes above. have chocolate as a base color, then add florals and touches of a shade of purple and peach. do you like bold colors or soft? another easy solution is pick 1 bold color and set it against a neutral. shimmery champagne beige and coral is a great scheme, with the bridal party in chocolate. this is also great because the only colors in florals you will need is the bold color(coral). and you can make it even easier by choosing one type flower( example: coral roses) with you or your bridal party carrying white with elegant chocolate ribbons. if you still want a small bit of teal, you could add a few peacock feathers. but i would make that very subtle. another great color is grey paired with a bold color. here is a site that shows table ideas( linen company)

My suggestions . . . keep the men in simple black and white
tuxes, don’t get fancy. For the women, if you like purple,
try using platinumn, silver or pewter as a base and then
add what shade of purple you like as an accent. Also,
I LOVE the soft peachy color terracotta (see David’s Bridal)
or shrimp at Alfred Angelo. If you go to the David’s Brial
website, set up an account (give your email and a password)
then you can click on Dress Your Wedding . . . you pick people
(adults, kids, men, plus or missy sizes), you choose from 4 different skin tones, 4 different hair colors then add the dresses
and sashes, purses, shoes, etc. It’s sort of like playing with
paper dolls. I just visited and used terracotta and latte-
there aren’t a lot of terracotta dresses, but it’s a very flattering
color on anyone from a tan to dark, dark skin.

hi!! it depends on the look you are after. i have seen black tuxes or suits with brown vests and ties that look great for the guys who arent fond of wearing all brown. though brown looks equally great. some brides prefer not to have black tuxes/suits against brown dresses but the look is amazing.

*black v. khaki v. brown

here is another idea, just have the simple brown with ivory….

Hey ladies! I just got engaged last month and set my wedding date for late September 2010. I am at the “choosing colors” stage and my mind has gone from color to color. First let me paint a picture for you…our wedding will be around 6pm in NC. The wedding will be outside (lots of greenery) and the reception will be on the roof (possibly) overlooking the city lights, but there is also an inside area that will be decorated as well. Our reception theme is a SOUTH BEACH THEME (candles, ottomans, pillows, curtains, etc).

I am STUCK on the color coral. I cannot let it go! I really like coral and eggplant but my fiance’ does not like the eggplant. He likes aqua and brown. I hate to admit it, but I also like aqua and brown together. I have also thought of coral and aqua; coral, aqua, and brown; and coral and lavendar. I am SO confused! I don’t want the reception to look tacky because it will be at night and we have these bright colors, but at the same time, I do not like fall colors. I thought about a light color paired with a dark color to bring down the brightness.

Please help ladies! My fiance’ and I are not traditional people so we are open to just about anything. Also, I will have calla lilies and/or tiger lilies in a square vase as my centerpieces. Just thought knowing the flower will help. If anybody can put together a board (because I am a visual person) that will be great! Ttyl ;)

I would recommend going with aqua (teal), brown and coral. There are beautiful coral roses that you can pair with the callas. The aqua could be used for accents and the coral roses will pop against the brown and aqua combo. I am having teal and brown… I am using callas and white and burnt orange roses. It looks great! Plus I think a bright color really adds life to the cool and neutral pallet.

Good luck!

Brown with coral and aqua highlights . . . it works for me.
Brown makes it classy, aqua and coral make it beachy.

I’M GLAD, I’M GLAD, I’M GLAD! I like the bold colors,
it stands on it’s own, no need to decorate the cake
table other than a plain tablecloth. When using

tiffany,
i watched this wedding episode on tv….
*real wedding pics
*karen tran weddings ( i cant tell you how great this website is, check it ALL out)

i made you a board. i used aqua and brown as the staples in the color scheme then i added small touches of coral. i found some lounge pics that i thought would add the perfect touch to your wedding. i had one pic i toyed with, wedding was on a stone balcony but i didnt use it cause i thought it looked less modern and chic. the venue pic i used for the ceremony could easily be the ceremony and then transformed into a chic lounge area since both have the white curtains and draping. for an outdoor ceremony, i would have a simple arch with billowy white curtains to mimic your sitting area. up the aisle have 2 foot tall glass cylinders filled with floating candles or just pillar candles. finish area, if at dusk or night, by adding simple votives around the ledge. it will give you a simple chic look that will give tons of impact for practically pennies. let me know if i was heading in the right direction!!

Stacey,

You hit the nail on the head! I saw Wanda’s wedding from “My Fair Wedding” and absolutely fell in LOVE with her reception. I looked at the board you made me, and I adore it. I never thought about the drapery at the ceremony, but it actually looks very good.

I did change the color of the wedding though. I’m thinking about coral and Tiffany blue with hints of purple (haven’t decided on a shade of purple yet). Stacey, because the ceremony and reception will be during the evening, I don’t want the colors to be too loud. Do you think those colors would work? I really need your help. I value your opinion more than you know!

I am getting married February 27, 2010 in a castle in Ga. The only thing I know so far is that I am using champagne as a wedding color. I was thinking about using chocolate brown and another color. Any suggestions as to the other color and what type of theme or so would go with my wedding. I know it’s winter but don’t want to do snowflakes. Please help.

you could consider the only color i would add here is to brighten castle walls, a creamy white with white roses with apricot or the peach centers ( like nancy b. suggested) with lots of greenery. set against shimmery champagne linens, accented with brown. pull in accents of silver.

I will be getting married around the same time! My colors are in common except I am using teal instead of red. I recently went to DB and my bridemaids tried picked truffle bottoms (long skirts) and champagne tops witha brown sash. However Red with a champagne sash would work nicely as well! Then the guys could wear black tuxes and red vests. It depends how much red you want and whether it is more an accent color or primary. My primary colors are brown and champagne with teal as an accent color.

Hi ladies! I am having SO much trouble picking colors… I am getting married in October 2009 in NY. My main color is chocolate brown and I love fall colors, but I am leaning more away from them now. I was originally thinking of using ivory with deep purple and peach/coral for accents, but now I am drawn to the champagne/gold/blush type colors… I think I am looking for something romantic, classic and elegant, but also a little modern… I need major help! The only reception detail I have decided on is the favors - maple syrup from the Adirondacks, and I think the gold color will complement any of the above ideas. Anyone know where I can turn for more inspiration? Any comments on the colors? Thanks!

melissa,
i agree with the the brown and champagne/blush/gold combo. peach is so close you could add light peach in the in the mix to. if you are looking for modern have sleek calla lilies in tall vases or cylinders of submerged roses, you could even think about topiaries atop clear glass cylinders, add candlelight for romance. pick a wedding invite that has an edge to it, like a more modern shape.

I have read several of the comments, but I am still having trouble finding a few photos that depict a brown and burgundy/wine color scheme for a wedding. I would really like to use that color scheme for my wedding on 8/01/09, but my MOH and several others do not think that combination will look good together… I’m trying to find photos to show them that it will, so they will trust me and stop trying to change my mind. I’m thinking brown tuxes for the guys, but that my MOH is afraid that they will look like UPS men. Help!

One way to help combine brown and burgandy would be to use gold as an accent color. (Burgandy and gold go great together).
I agree with Stacey, try using brown vests for the groomsmen and a bronze or gold vest for the groom.

There is a photo of a cake and a table setting . . . this

Go to the David’s Bridal website . . .
go to the Design Your own Wedding area and
dress your “bridesmaid” in dress D18293 (or any other dress that comes in truffle - a medium brown), then add a
cabernet color sash. This is a good idea of how the colors would go together.

I think of silver and gold as “neutral” wedding colors . . .usually,
they are already incorporated into the wedding color sheme because of the jewelry. Gold adds a touch of sparkle to browns.
Wear gold ornaments in you hair, tie a gold sash around the
bride and grooms chair, Tie gold ribbon around the bouquet,
add SMALL gold accents to your cake, wear gold shoes, use gold ribbon on your favor boxes, etc. Just remember, when
using gold . . . less is more. Use SMALL accents as not to
overpower your other colors.

kerry,
yes! a gold bridal gown is perfect!! especially if its light gold. have the bridal party in brown with burgundy or creamy white flowers tied with brown satin ribbons. for you carry white if bridal party carries burgundy or burgundy if they carry white. then in your reception depending on what mood your wanting to set. have creamy white linens with simple burgundy flowers and curly willow, accent with brown napkins to pull the brown out of the curly willow or grapevine if you prefer. if you like the grapevine idea have that in arch, centerpieces, and places that would add a romantic touch. for arches consider adding white lights. let me know what ya think.

Hi Kerri,
I just got married on May 30 and love the idea of wedding gowns with color it shows that a person can thinks outside of the box. my colors were choc and lavender with kiwi green as an accent. My dress was midnight lavender(my first thought was light gold or dark champagne) but I saw this dress and fell in love one reason is because purple is one of my favorite colors. I’m attaching a snapshot that a guest took, it was at the end of the reception, so please forgive the hair and make-up ;) .

denise,
no you dont have to plan one. they are not necessary at all.
*do you have to have a rehearsal dinner?

*Planning a Rehearsal Dinner

my suggestion if you choose to have one is keep it casual in a backyard or a church hall. i wouldnt overthink this. simple menu can be what one of my friends had. (disposable) trays of spaghetti, rolls, a huge bowl of caesar salad( this eliminates having to buy dressing) and (disposable) trays of strawberry shortcake. everything was disposable plates, forks, glasses, etc. it was laid out buffet style and evryone helped themselves! i have been to seated rehearsal dinners and the casual was by far my fave!! the food was soooo good and everybody preferred it over plated dinners. if you choose to skip this but still want a moment with your family and wedding party. have simple cake and punch. alot of folks overlook this simple yet joyous cake and punch or champagne idea. make sure your cake is not your normal cake and icing. have a super special cake like is on restaurant dessert menus. like a hazelnut chocolate cake or key lime cake. you could even have a great coffee ( have decaf for those who cant sleep if they drink caffeine) and pie. who dont enjoy going out for just coffee and pie or cake? have other beverages for those who dont care for coffee.

I agree that rehearsal dinners should be kept casual . . . unless, of course, your dad is a millionaire. Just make sure everyone is told how to dress, that is, casual is polo shirts and khakis for the guys, sundressses, or slacksuits for the girls, NOT
cutoffs and a hooters t-shirt. Personally, I think everyone needs
to relax the night before the wedding. Keep the alcohol down to a drink at dinner, or none at all. Throw some bar-be-qued
hamburgers in the crockpot, have some pasta salad and brownies for dessert. I have been in several weddings, and I
was GRATEFUL not to have to go buy another dress for the
rehearsal dinner, and out of town guests will have fewer
things that they have to pack. Have photos from your bridal shower to pass around, turn on the radio for background music,
and break out Trivial Pursuit. Make sure to have someone with a camera and have fun. The people in your wedding party love you and are more interested in having fun than they are in
having a fancy meal. Last year I was the photographer for
my neice’s wedding . . . the reception was held at a nice
resataurant and we ate filet mingon for dinner, but we ordered
out for fried chicken and macaroni salad and set up tables in
her Dad’s garage after the rehearsal. If someone volunteers
to make a cake . . . let them! If your future sister-in-law makes a mean tuna casserole . . . let her bring one!
Someone’s roses are in bloom? . . . break out a old glass coke
bottle and stick a few in water!

So now I knida wanted to go with brown dresses, but if the guys have brown tuxes then wouldn’t that be too much brown? I had also considered the brown with a latte or cream color instead. But I just think that will be too much brown! I have also seen black tuxes with brown vests! Actually, I have seen alot of people do that! I am just kinda stuck on what to do!

Hello to all,

My God-daughter is getting married August 8, 2009 and she is having her 6 bridemaids in cocoa and her 2 matrons in champagne with the cocoa sash. The bride’s gown is ivory with latte trim (beautiful). We thought we should add some color to the wedding party, so we decided on tangerine orange bouquets for the bridemaids and matrons of honor. These bouquets has orange, ivory and a hint of yellow flowers in them and we really like them. Should we add any brown in there at all? The groom has decided that he wants black tux for himself and the groomsmen, but I hate that idea because there is such a nice brown tux that I think would bring the wedding party together. I need your advise as to just leave the bouquets as is or add some brown accents into the bouquet? Also should I just leave the black tux idea alone, since it is his wedding too?

ann, oh yeah i wouldnt worry about adding brown to the bouquets. unless you want to wrap the stems with a latte ribbon?!? cause to many colors may make it clash because of the latte shade.i found some latte pics and with the black tux and then the brown ; the brown threw it off somehow, and i do love the black tux with the champagne/latte better( in this case) than the brown, i thought it made it look so good!!!!

brown is a great color!! wow tough decision!! i would personally choose them all!!! google image brown and green wedding then chocolate and green wedding. one thing you can do is choose sage green and add cranberry flowers in the mix. it would look real good. also google image brown and red wedding. have the green in the greenery but dont have dark green have a medium shade.

:) I love this site … I’ve picked up some good tips/got some good ideas and reaffirmed some of the things I was worrying about.

Any opinions on centerpieces? Our wedding is in June - chocolate brown, peridot (a light sage/mint green), and ivory .. it’s on the formal side - I was thinking of a floating flower / candle in a vase with coffee beans / etc … any suggestions for a good DIY? I’m on a budget - I spent a lot on the reception hall, honeymoon, etc .. time to crunch! :-P

Also favors, I bought 200 personalized green/brown chocolates from theknot.com - should I bother going farther? Wrap them? Add candles? My mom insists that it’s enough - I’m getting all wrapped up in this big white wedding! :D

:love2:

kristen,
the favors you have are plenty. if you wanted you could get a simple favor box (check out favorideas) and place at each table setting. i absolutely love the coffee bean idea!! just add flower petals around the base or sprigs of greenery in and around candle bases. another idea is to submerge greenery or orchids on a stem even a simple rose in the vase withthe coffee beans and candle. it would look stunning.
google image coffee bean centerpiece and also submerged rose centerpiece. for the submerged rose you could go to walmart or a local floral market and buy (1 rose per centerpiece) think 1 dozen would do 12 tables. just buy vases, coffee beans. take one cylinder with the rose and floating candle and set it in another vase of coffee beans. or do a trial run of coffee beans in water to make sure it doesnt tint the water.

Hi ladies, nice sale going on at AmericanBridal. They have a large cross-section on clearance (favors, accessories, bridesmaid gifts, tote bags etc.), but on top of the clearance they are running a 50% off coupon. This applies only to clearance items, but it really knocks the price down! The coupon code is clearance50 and you need to enter it into the coupon field at checkout. Here’s the link:

candice, google image blue and brown wedding.
i would have the bm carry cream with brown ribbon. youcarry the blue and cream with blue ribbon it would serve for your soemthing blue. as for linen, i would choose cream with blue hydrangea and white roses, and tie a beautiful chocolate brown satin ribbon tied in elegant bow with flowing tails barely touching the table surface, can use monogram rhinestone pins in center of knot if you wish. i saw this idea once, but havent been able to find it since, gorgeous!! tie it all in with brown napkins, creamy white plates and silverware. add candlelight if ya like, keep the votive holders plain or crystal cut and candles in ivory. but if hydrangea and roses are not inthe budget see waht your florist has in season that is similar.

hi jessica,i would put brown vests with the black tux. do not worry about pulling black into your color scheme. since you want salmon accents. i would do a traditional ivory and brown reception decor. let that be the main thing you work from. then my flowers would be what i pull the salmon pink in from. my suggestion is use this 1 color not a range of pinks. i actually think a ivory cake with brown and pink dots would look so beautiful even in a swanky setting. for the bouquets, have the girls carry white bouquets( unless you are carrying white) with pink and brown stripe ribbon, like table runner in pic) you carry a pink bouquet. for flowers, its hard to say, depending on your area. ask your florist for a list of in season flowers, these will usually be roses, daisies, mums etc. i suggested ivory/brown table linens because its classic. i suggest brown sashes to tie it in. this will also mesh well in a number of venues. that is what i was thinking classic/easy. for the napkins its a matter of choice but i prefer ivory.

*Pink and Brown Southern Affair ( this wedding is amazing!!)

*Board: Pink, Espresso, Ecru

*Wedding Wednesday: A Brown and Frosted Pink Fete ( i cant say how much i love these striped runners)

for more ideas: google image pink and brown weddings and also pink and brown wedding board. also head to theknot.com under wedding photos will pull up color galleries just check out the brown details and the pink. you can add a pink sash to bm dress or keep them brown. i personally like the solid brown.hope this helps.

Hi

I am getting married on 22nd August 09 and the colour scheme is ivory, sage green and chocolate brown. The men are wearing brown suits, the bridesmaids are wearing sage green dresses:
http://www.bhs.co.uk/mall/departmentpage.cfm/bhsstore/132449/1/1 - bottom left picture. The problem is i dont know what flowers to have for the table centres and bridesmaid bouquets! I was thinking a very pale peach for the ushers button holes and an ivory one for the groom. I like these flowers below, any ideas anyone!! Help! x
(ps i dont know if the pics will work!) But are basically pastels with green leaves.

Donna, i cant stop looking at your first pic. its beautiful!! this is gonna be timeless, elegant and so romantic. for the bm bouquet keep it simple. a lush bouquet of peach roses. dont overthink the bouquets. i am trying to visualize it in my head and peach keeps standing out, but if going with this choose the 1st pic for centerpieces. another idea is to use all ivory/peach flowers with greenery and no other colors in your scheme. cause sage/peach/ivory is a beautiful combo. another beauty is sage and yellow, i have high regards for this color scheme!!

i have a website i want you to check out( below are my favesand some xtra colors that you may not have thought about, i sure hope they inspire!!smile!

I having 4 of my closest friend in a yellow chiffon dress w/ a espresso sash around the bodice, his 2, and my 2 younger sisters and 3 of my sisters in law wearing just a yellow chiffon dress. And the rest of the party which includes his 2 and my 4 older sisters, and 8 close cousins are going to be in an espresso chiffon dress! I’m trying to picture how it would look but I hardly see any brown and yellow wedding parties pictured online. Has anyone had it and can I see pictures? What flowers should I use? How should the tables be set? What should the grooms men wear…..etc? Lots of questions and I think I’m running out of time! PLEASE HELP!!!!

amani,
use 1 type/1 color flower ( i would choose yellow roses or yellow in your fave flower) and use it in abundance. since your on a time crunch, this will simplify. add greenery for a summery look or omit most of the greenery in a modern look. have guys wear tan suits or brown suits or tuxes. to suit formality. if they wear tan have espresso brown ties and vest. i personally love the look of all brown suits/tuxes. it looks classic and so pulled together. as for the tables simple brown or white linens with small square glass containers filled with yellow roses and greenery . if the ceilings are high in the venue then alternate small and tall centerpieces. if you add greenery to your decor ( which i would, cause it simplifys even more;making decorating easier) you could have all greenery( spilling gracefully over rim, like ivy) in tall centerpieces, no flowers. it will look gorgeous!! for bouquets you carry a classic white rose bouquet with yellow ribbon to break the white on white effect. for guys simple rose bout. groom in white gm with yellow, for girls they carry classic yellow rose bouquets with brown ribbon. if you keep this simple and easy you can plan in no time. that swhy i suggested 1 flower/1 color. have all bouquet ribbons the same to keep that easy. it will go even with the mix and match style dresses effortlessly.

Hello to my fellow lucky brides to be!
I have decided on brown bridesmaids dresses and i think i will copy the tip above of monocrome tight white posies for them - my dress will be white/cream with brown shoes and brown painted nails - its a natural/pagan theme - so i fancy pussy willow, wicker wreaths, fircones and lots of candles for the wedding breakfast (late afternoon in early december).
Also great excuse for a chocolate wedding cake! My fiance wants to wear a grayish suit - i saw a charcoal suit above which i think will look nice with brown vest/tie type combination so i am pleased as was worried of getting the groomsmen to match with the brown.
Anyone with any ideas on other flowers/decorations as i don’t want another colour but want to keep decorations interesting?

Help! I’m getting down to the wire on choosing dresses and I can’t pick a color scheme. My wedding gown is a champagne color which I’m not sure goes with bright summery colors. I’ve picked out bridesmaid gowns and junior bridesmaid gowns. The bridesmaid gowns are chocolate and I’d like to add some color with the junior bridesmaids (I’m getting married in July). I’m not sure if light blue will work with a champagne wedding gown. What do you think? Any other color ideas?

Gorgeous wedding gown from Davids Bridal; ivory with champagne accents, size 16W. Style 9T9315. Only slight alterations will be made to the hem (I’m 5′7). Very slimming dress! Will be bustled. Origionally paid $649 before alterations.

Davids Bridal tiara: Style 9870. Will have been worn once, but will have origional box and tags. $179.00 origionally.

Ivory ring bearer pillow. Purchased from Hobby Lobby for $21.99. I will add chocolate brown ribbon, but this will be removable.

hi brandy!! you have chosen a beautiful and elegant color scheme! i think i know just the board. i think this would fit so well with your wedding idea. Favors for this wedding should be something edible, like chocolate in boxes, cookies in cream colored organza bags or glassine envelopes(craft store, sealed with a monogram label) make it unfussy. if orchids are not in the budget, there are white flower branches you can use, or use shorter glass vases and think fluffy creamy white flowers with the mint green stems, those need to show it adds a little soemthing to the scheme. or add a mix of white blossoms with mint green flowers for the same visual effect. stunning! you can find glass vases at any dollar store. i hope you love this! this is one of my fave boards!it adds a elegance without being stuffy.

I was wondering what you decided. My daughter Danielle is getting married on the same day in Blacksburg Virgnia at Virginia Tech. Danielle’s attendants will be wearing champagne and chocolate brown dress. We decided to use orchids which will bring in the blue colors and the teal blue. We thinking of using brown sticks in a large vase and blue orchids strunk up and hanging off of the branches. What have you decided to do and if you can give us any idea’s please do so. What have you decided for your invitations?

I was just reading some posts about the brown bridesmaide dresses and the men in black tux with some brown…what if I had the guys wear black jackets and brown ties??? We’re not really going for the tux look..just suits. Or if this doesn’t work, what would work if tux’s were not wanted??

Thanks,

lori m,
i would use a deep champagne tie like in pics. it looks sooo good with brown dresses. if you are going casual then why not brown slacks and white shirt?

Also see black v. khaki v. brown?

june, ooohhhh! love those colors! don’t see these very much! you might be in luck, cause with ostrich feathers (impact) tables require little else. but think about candles. they would add to the drama. votives would be plenty. i would put the guys and ringbearer in charcoal grey, it goes so well with lilacs. i wouldnt match the vests etc. to each bm, charcoal grey vest included. keep it simple and classic, cause otherwise it could stand out to much, this palette is meant to be romantic and soft. but i would have victorian lilac boutonnieres. For the flowergirl have her in a simple brown dress with lilac bow or other way around. accent with a brown wooded or metal basket. have a ring of victorian lilac flowers in her hair with ribbons. bring more of the brown into the reception. unless you can get your bridal party to wear brown suits, in that case, keep the boutonnieres the same except for groom which, i think should wear a white bout. i wasnt sure of the ostrich feather color but white on brown linens would look fab!! (google image both charcoal grey suit and brown tux)

We are planning a June 6 wedding and are stumped about flowers! We have chosen chocolate brown and a light pink color and plan to make our own floral arrangements. My bms will be in brown and the men in black suits with pink vest and tie. We want to find flowers we love that will not break the bank! I understand flowers will give that special touch but, we would prefer to spend more money on other things (… more chocolate YUM!) Any suggestions?

cossandra, for a june 6 wedding i would do wonderful foliage centerpieces surrounded by crystal looking or glass votives, they look amazing in crystal looking containers. it looks so beautiful. and the best thing, you can take ferns or other greenery and diy. leave flowers to the wedding party, simple long stem rose would be beautiful(i love this look, it makes such an impact) or even 3 for them would work with the same greenery from the centerpieces, have an amazing, lush and dripping greenery arch. have greenery for pew markers spilling out of lace looking cones.

also another flower carnations, just google image carnation wedding for amazing pics. sometimes roses can be your overall cheapest flower because they are in bulk. talk to your florist to see what is cheapest in your area. if you dont like this, you can consider economical centerpieces of favor towers with flowing ribbons, favor ideas has what you need for this project! or consider cupcake centerpieces. ( i love this idea!! and sandra lee did the cakes on pedestals in center of table the link provided will give a short video of her work, check out the table decor!!)

* Video: Sandra Lee | Wedding Tables

it is gorgeous. also consider the impact of a single flower in elegant bottle(calla lily, daylily, hydrangea etc.)

* Wedding Flowers: How to Create Beautiful Bouquets from Supermarket Flowers

( love this site check it out!! bouquet pic came from here, you could even get bouquets like this and break them up into centerpieces, i love this bouquet the best for your color scheme, with the greenery centerpieces, i think it would stand out!!)

monika, just some ideas….
what if you met in the middle by choosing all pool linens? they are gorgeous with white chair covers(or better yet if the chairs are brown or white , i wouldnt use chair covers.)

* Lindsay & David in Mystic, CT
( not exactly your colors but a pic to visualize)

* Kam & Michael in Basalt, CO
( love the simple brown chairs with this setting!)

* Lea & Gene in Walnut Creek, CA
( love the tables)

* Meghan & Graham in Philadelphia, PA
(wow!! probably my fave! elegant!)

* Charger Plates
( here is a pic that kinda resembles what he wants, it really is nice, just have plenty of white flowers on table.) have you thought about white table linens with overlays or runners? i hope the pics help, i have marked what i thought would work best! i favored the less adorned chair, or chair cover/no sash. :love2:

if you still want chair covers, i would use white or a colored chair cover. let me know what ya think and congratulations of your upcoming wedding!! :D

RDawn, i searched the internet. my suggestion is find simple brown dresses, straps or strapless, and have denim boleros (buy or have made)with it. and they can take these off if they choose. otherwise have them in brown dresses and tie their bouquets with denim ribbons trailing down front of dress, it will add the pop of denim your looking for. i am sorry i couldnt find anything, but i will keep looking and post back if i do!! good luck!!

* Isaac Mizrahi for Target® Strapless Denim Dress
(love this dress!!with brown shoes it could be amazing!!, shoes with brown embroidery in a simple but stylish could be just as amazing and chic)

* Deener sun dress in checkers (out of stock, but check out pic)

* Our Denim Dress with Removable Jacket
( the right style looks so good in denim!! the sash could be in brown, add brown shoes! love it)

Hi ladies getting married feb 28th 09. My colors are chocolate and Ivory and Pumpkin the guys are wearing chocolate suits, bridesmaids are wearing chocolate gowns I’m wearing Ivory, is the wedding party too dark for pictures. Also instead of bouquets the bridesmaids will have ivory feather fans. All my accents will be in pumpkin do you think its too much chocolate. What about the tables and chairs Im thinking chocolate table cloths and chair cover with Ivory napkins and chair sashes.

(also google image brown and black tux) you will see black tux with light mocha vest which would look great too!! if you put girls in lavender here is a charcoal and lavender tux. charcoal is a nuetral color so it will blend with brown effortlessly!!

denise, i just looked at the color midnight lavender!! that color is gorgeous!! you could put the groom in lavender with you or just keep vests same and change the boutonniere. lavender for the groom and kiwi green boutonnieres for the gm. the only thing i am thinking will the lavender vest look “promish”? i think i like the gm in mocha vest with the groom in the darker vest or vice versa. i believe it will be a pulled together and very classy look!! green bouquets next to lavender dresses is soooo gorgeous!! have bm carry solid green which is very hip!! and you carry lavender and green bouquet!! i think this would work best!! its gonna be breathtaking!!

Thank you Stacey, no in wedding or guest will know my color. I like the idea of the mocha vest and lavender boutonnieres for the GM. one question: my BM dresses are going to be in choco. will this work well with the green bouquet ?
also, would you have the BM/MOH in all choco or would you use a lavender sash or a dress that i two-toned (choc/lavender).

denise, i went to dessy.com and looked at dress# 2506 in brown with lavender sash, love it!! i am rethinking my solid green bouquets after seeing these pics i am posting. although the green would be amazing, i think the colors would pop against their dress but i would use “mainly green” in their bouquet. and you can have more of the mix of colors. carry this throughout your decor, except using more of the greenery in the centerpieces etc. choose a wrap style for bm bouquet stems, if you use a sash for their dresses you dont want bouquet ribbons hanging.

had to show you this just scroll down to pics.

denise, i like 526. you will definitely need to try them on your bm to see if the style suits. i still think an aline would be the best silouette. its hard to narrow down the right style til you take your bm to try on dresses. go to davids bridal just to try on dresses even if you dont purchase them. or a local boutique. i fell in love with the flowers too. i wouldnt have my bm in the same dress, today in weddings it would be something that compliments maybe with the similar form would be okay. it will still be beautiful letting them pick their own style. davids bridal has the mix and match and it still flows together. one bm may want long dress while the other wants a short one. but i promise it looks fab like that and will be better for different body types. would you share a photo or link for your dress so i could help you better? good luck!!

denise, i would put bm in simple a line dresses. knee length or floor length. keep it simple. you could think about a very simple ruching. but with this you have to be careful, as it may not look good on plus size bm. it didnt suit my daughter at all, being short, it overwhelmed her so much and added weight to her frame. also tea length didnt work, it made her look shorter. i hope you find a wonderful bm dress, keep an idea of mix and match bm separates, i think this is the best way to go!! smile. have the brown with lavender sashes. most definitely. by the way, your dress is so gorgeous! what a color!! i just love colored wedding dresses. also one more thing. a look i love is having all white flowers at reception with bride, bridal party attire and flowers as the pops of color. THEN… reception with the color. i think it looks so good. cause the wedding could be more serene, romantic, then you hit the reception where the colors are and its like wow a party!!

Hi Stacy Happy New Year! my date has changed to 5/30. for the ceremony you said to have all white flowers for decor and have green/white flowers for the bouquets and bouts (right)? While choosing the BM dresses I opted for all choc w/o the lavender sash, each girl chose their dress. Can I add the lavender to the bouquets or someplace else and in the bouquets I am putting crystal tipped stems(DIY) to give some sparkle since it will be outside. for the indoor reception you said incorporate all colors. I’ve seen dried hydrengas(?) green and purple/lavender, will these be okay to use for centerpieces?

denise, i think i confusesd you with my comments.sorry. :D i read back over what i wrote and i got confused! lol.i was only giving idea xtra ideas in last posts. my main idea: white/green ceremony florals. bridesmaids carry color bouquets but with a more of the green to it, and yours will have mostly color and less green in it.cause i think more green added would pop best against the bm dress. then in the reception have ALL the color with lots of green and lots of lavender. a more serene romantic wedding ceremony then wow them with color at the reception. i was thinking the 3rd in the row (above link) bouquet (since it had more green) for the bm. and the middle bouquet or the second pic in next post(its mostly lavenders for you). i hope i am making sense  if you have any ?, then please write back!!

I started off with chocolate brown as part of my scheme but completely different other colors. The dress I found happened to have a red inset and I love green. After looking over some color samples at Alfred Angelo where we are getting the bridesmaid dresses, I came up with very rich color combination of espresso, claret/apple red, and kiwi. It looks great together! We will probably be having brown mostly at the tables and using red and green apples as the place card holders to add vibrance.

My fiance and I are getting married next fall (setting up a date on Tuesday!) and are looking at having a chocolate brown wedding. I thought originally that I wanted to pair it with coral, then I thought about a really vibrant aqua or teal color instead. Now I’m seeing some of the combinations on here (ie the brown paired with both fuschia and orange/coral) and I’m starting to feel like I’m back at the beginning–not knowing where to start with colors at all. I don’t know what to do!!!

* Aqua and Coral (light orange) wedding colors??

* Palm Beach Coral & Silk wedding flower package (ebay - what i see for your bouquet with girls carrying solid coral)

Hey ladies,

I am getting married June 2009. I have changed my colors so many times that my fiance keeps getting upset at me. The last colors I was planning on using were ORANGE AND FUSCHIA, but just a few days ago, I went over to go see my wedding coordinator and she had a table set up with Chocolate brown and Fuschia, and I loved it. I thought it looked more elegant. But if any of you have any pictures that you could share with me, I would really appreciate it. i actually love this for your wedding better than flowers. and i love the tags attached it really does look elegant!! whoi would of thought!! just have your sweet theme and candy buffet as normal then carry the centerpieces to the table, its guaranteed to wow and be remembered and make them smile, that way you have “sweets” all over the room!! hope you like it!! and i really hope you go with this, its not that common and your wedding will stand out!! smile!! let me know what you think!! plus this is soooo inexpensive and easy with major impact!!!

leslie, this has been such a dilemma for military brides. but no it wont his uniform will be fine, it will blend and stand out the way it suppose too. i tell military brides to go with what they love ande let the groom wear his honorable uniform. i am sooo glad your going with the lollipop centerpieces, it fits. wont look tacky the blue will compliment the brown. it will be fine!! but if you do want a little blue in wedding have another candy color, tie off your bouquet in a blue( something blue) i promise it wont be overkill.(plus i am sure some of your candy will have some blue)

* Raspberry and teal inspiration board

( not exactly your colors but see how it works here?!?) love it. remember just touches or have ribbons with the brown pink and blue in it. also add blue in cupcakes etc. you just might love it!!i hope his suit is blue!! and not green( if its green then you will have enough greenery and the colors will be fine to tie it in)

* Post Pink
* Pink & Brown
* Bubblegum Wedding

to add more pizazz to the cupcakes make the icing fluffy swirled with edible glitter. ( like in pic)

write back if you need more help!!

HELP!!!! i am getting ready for a wedding on may 30th of 2009. I haven’t really picked my colors but am looking at Merlot red, Burgundy or brown with a contrasting color like lime green, pink or an off white. I love spring and that is why I chose that date. Im kind of looking for a spring theme. I am requesting help with flower ideas and bouquets. I also need reassurance that the colors i have mentioned will go with the season….. thank you

OK So I finally deide that I am going with Chocolate brown and Red as my colours. My Bridesmaids will be wearing red. The Groom, best man and groomsmen will be wearing Black tuxes. The question I have is Should I stick with red vest and tie’s to match the dresses? Or should I have them wear brown vests and tie’s with a red flower pinned to them??? I fell that I should bring in the brown into the attire as well as the decor??? Help!

either would work. but i like the black tux with brown vest and red bout. will look sophisticated!! Check out Just Got Back from Santa Barbara … (wow!!)

if its to dark for you have simple creamy white linens like below. brown containers with red flowers tie brown into napkins. add brown curly willow like decor to the centepieces for more brown, add greenery. youve got something gorgeous!!

I am planning a wedding for september 09, and I saw a wedding dress that is midnight night lavender. any ideas of what colors the BMs could wear, before I saw this dress, I was going for chocolate/sage/aqua/ or lavender for their dresses and a champagne color for mine? Any ideas will be helpful.

Hmmm … just FYI for anyone else wondering, here’s a maggie sottero in midnight lavender. I was curious what that would look like.

wow, this the dress, its different. what do you think :? I’ve noticed that some brides are wearing red or blue gowns. I like the fact that it iis different from the traditional white and ivory. purples, browns, and black are my favorite colors. again my orginal idea was for a chocolate dress/with accents of aqua, sage, and or lavender and for my dress to be a champagne color.
