Hoping to plan an
autumn wedding that expresses your deepest desires and most personal visions for matrimony, but not sure where to start?
Not to worry — you have plenty of company. And this article will quickly help you on your way.
Finding your Personal Autumn Style
Many articles recommend starting your planning by picking your wedding colors. But how? Well, maybe you could just choose your favorite color (unless your fiancé happens to hate red), check your daily horoscope (oops! No color advice, dang!), or take a poll of your bridesmaids and see what they feel like wearing.
You could do any of these things, but they're likely to end up unsatisfactory ... because they won't express your inner vision for the wedding as a whole. So try this: try to find your wedding dress before you move on.
For many brides, there's only one wedding gown that sums up their deepest feelings about what kind of bride they are. They may not know it until they wear it, but when they do, the recognition is instant.
As often as not, this gown ends up communicating a distinct feeling that will help pull the rest of your wedding together. A beaded ivory gown in raw silk looks splendid with English cottage style flowers. A diamond-white A-line with a couture feel will look at home among modern colors and designs. But more than how it looks, focus on how it feels. Vintage? Queenly? Minimalist? Eclectic?
Where to Hold your Fall Spectacular
No matter what your style, one thing you're likely to share with all other Fall brides is a love of the outdoors. So, you might find your perfect setting in a vineyard, a park bristling with old oaks, a delightfully ramshackle New England barn, or a parent's backyard. But even if the reception takes place in an uptown loft, you'll want to capture the season's unique scents and colors wherever possible ... especially in the photos!
What Type of Fall Bride Are You?
Fall brides come in deliciously different flavors. Let's look at three that we'll call New England Classic, Regal and Contemporary (though of course you can mix and match).
New England Fall Style
If New England style describes you, you probably dream of white, steepled churches and fiery oak and maple leaves. Your wedding look is country casual, and your toolbox holds the natural materials of fall farmer's markets. Your bridesmaids might wear hunter
green, apple red, ecru or umber gowns with long sashes and a big bow in back.
When it comes to flowers, your bouquet might sport dahlias, Leonidas roses, mini-callas in rust, gold and red, mini sunflowers, chrysanthemums, spider mums or gladiolas. You might also see woodsy accents like wheat or rye grass, hypericum berries, blackberries or heather. You might also have maple leaves wired right into your bouquet — a distinct and totally tasty look. Chances are, long ribbons dangle romantically from the bouquets.
But what about the cake? Perhaps you'll set out several homestyle flavors: carrot cake and spice cake, for example. Or, you might serve up a classic white confection with a waterfall of autumn-colored gum paste leaves or flowers.
As for decorating, New England brides have the best of all worlds. It's simple (and cheap!) to take spectacular fall materials and turn them into a stunning celebration. Hit up a farmer's market, and you've got corn stalks for posts and barn doors, bushels of apples to carve into floating candle holders or use as place card holders, grapevines for church door wreaths, and pumpkins and mini gourds to scatter along paths or stair steps (carve these with your monograms, or turn each pumpkin into a letter, such as L-O-V-E). Pumpkins also make wonderful vases for floral arrangements. Wishing trees, where guests write blessings and well-wishes for the future on paper leaves to tie to a 'tree', are popular features.
Other ideas: tuck a sprig of wheat into a linen napkin and tie with raffia for an elegant look. Clump pillars of vanilla or cinnamon-scented candles in strategic spots to treat your guests to autumn's scents. Serve colorful fruit punch and iced tea in big, old-fashioned canisters. Hand out sweetly nostalgic favors, like mini honey jars with a wooden dipper, or caramel apples.
Also, switch out leaves for summer's rose petals at every turn. For example, dress up the arch or chapel, pews and chair backs with leaf garlands, found at any craft store. Have your adorable flower girl scatter leaves down the aisle before you make your grand entrance. You can even decorate entire tabletops using loose leaves (real or silk) as a table runner, punctuated by romantic votives.
Regal Fall Style
If you're more of a Regal-style bride, your look could translate just as well to
winter.
Your gown might have deep red detailing at the neckline, sash or train, and your bodice might involve gold embroidery. And your bridesmaids'? Crimson or claret, with a bit of sparkle worked in.
When it comes to flowers, you'll probably focus on sculptural red and white classics, such as roses and stephanotis, made even more formal with crystal bouquet picks. Or you might choose the eye-catching drama of red and white tulips.
As for the ("let them eat") cake, yours might be tall and white, with red roses or satin ribbons at the base, and monograms in the fondant or the topper. And likely as not, a towering chocolate fountain will draw guests like bees to honey in the corner.
When it comes to decorating, you'll probably stick close to the classics. Crisp white chair covers with red or crimson sashes set a stylish tone in your balllroom. Many of your centerpieces will probably be floral (and elaborate), but hurricane lamps filled with white pillar candles and dramatic red cranberries remind your guests of the season. Your favors might be pewter leaf ornaments in a bright red gift box.
Contemporary Fall Style
When it comes to tradition, a Contemporary bride usually winks. If this is you, your main hue might be chocolate brown with an offbeat accent, like
purple,
aqua or chartreuse. Or, your flowers might hint at fall, but consist of less conventional blooms. Your bridesmaids might don chic
black gowns — which not only reportedly take off ten pounds for the camera, but (bonus!) serve as a backdrop to eye-popping bouquets. You're more likely to turn to metallics than autumn standards like orange and red.
Popular fall flowers for contemporary brides include peach and coral roses, gold and mango mini-callas, pincushion proteas or chocolate cosmos. You might also like bittersweet vines, and exotics like orchids and red anthuriums. And for extra interest, lemon leaves and eucalyptus, copper wire accents or bear grass wraps, and fiddleheads or feather collars. You also might use hints of lime green, such as button mums and chartreuse roses, or fuchsia in the form of roses and callas.
And your cake? It might be a complex creation turreted with chocolate curls or ruffles, framing layers of glistening red fruit, like cherries or raspberries. Or, a dark chocolate cake, or alternative desserts like pies or pumpkin cheesecake.
Finally, you could get pretty eclectic when it comes to decorating. There's really no telling, but guests might find humble burlap linens under pin-tucked copper table runners, complete with silk tassels. Your centerpieces might involve leaves, but in an unusual way (for example, silk leaves submerged in a modern clear canister, filled with water). You'll probably group enormous numbers of white candles and votives for a modern — yet completely autumn — look. Centerpieces might sneak in anything from miniature green apples to succulents with the flowers. Favors could be unbleached earth-friendly favor boxes filled with bright candy corn.

Tonya,
Office Depot has wedding invitations that are handmade paper (you can see the leaves & flowers), then you print on regular white paper and tie on the printed invitation to the handmade paper with the provided bows. I picked mine up a couple of months ago but I think that it was $35 (also includes envelopes and response cards) for 50 invites. Not 100% sure on the numbers, but it was a pretty good deal, I have a small budget and was really hapy with the price. . . .I just can’t remember the details anymore. Good luck!

Hi Tara, i would check out Alferd Angelo’s site you can view all the dresses online (front and back view) as well, you can change the colour of the dress. I believe a saw that particular dress when searching for my dress. Even try searching on Ebay by typing in the style of dress or designers name and their is normally a link to their store on line. Hope this helps.

Hi Allie, I found tons of stuff while searching on the web in regards to red. I would maybe think about doing a theme around apples with your candy red apple colour and add some green to it. Maybe do candy apples as favours and use red and green apples in a big hurricane vase for your centrepieces. Hope this helps.

My 4 year old daughter and I bought fake fall flowers (fall colored daisy like flowers, and styrofoam balls and made beautiful floral ball that we hung off of standing plant hangers. We put then on each side of the beginning and the ebd of the aisle runner. It was very elegant. We then had our cake done in a fall theme with matching floral decor on the cake. Followed by fall leaf garland around the bottom of the cake.

That is beautiful Hannah!

Hey just thought I would pass this idea on that I just found for center pieces. You take a hurrican vase and put it on top of a glass plate, then put a 9″ pillar candles. You have some grapevine wreaths and soak them in water to make them more elastic, then loop the vine into tight circle and allow it to climb up. put a satin ribbon around the top of vase. very elegant and simple. Cheap to.
Can go to DIYNetwork under weddings (click to rustic outdoor reception). Have fun

Hello, I am getting married Sept 27, 2008. Our theme for the wedding are leaves and our colours are the traditional fall coloures (brown, burnt red, burnt orange and a deep yellow). My dress has an esspresso sash and the girls dresses are brown with sashes. Our centrepieces are either hurricane vases with cranberries and a candle or a vase with chessnuts or coffee beans with wheat. I am just stuck on finding DIY fall invitations -any suggestions????

autumn food ideas - beef pot roast, pork roast, turkey, pumpkin ravioli w/cream sauce, chicken marsala, roasted vegetables, redskin mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes - hearty stuff with a homestyle feel - baked mac & cheese, meatloaf, green bean casserole, ect. think about thanksgiving - what are your favorites from that meal? is there something special your family makes that the caterer’s can do for your dinner? individual punpkin cheescakes instead of traditional cake, or apple crisp’s, or carrot cake. serve warm spiced apple cider along with coffee, or spiced cranberry iced tea, caramel apple martini’s, instead of mimosa’s, replace the oj with cider. set out an anitpasta platter with artesian cheeses & breads, olives & tapenade toppings for apps.

Hi Erin:
congrats! Brown is a great color for BM gowns … especially in the country. No worries, it looks stunning with black. Just coordinate with a brown vest/tie, it will look wonderful with the GM’s black tuxes. Here’s a few pics and also see “My Man Won’t Marry in Brown”

Hello Everyone! I’m getting married 9/19/09 (I’ve got plenty of time to plan and it’s WONDERFUL!) I am also planning a fall/apple themed wedding. For center pieces I’m doing tealight candles in various candle holders spread out on a square mirror with berry garland woven between them. I also love the idea of filling vases with apples and topping it off with some roses or flowers of your choice. Favors are going to be packets of cider tied with raffia and decorated with cinnamon sticks. I read a few comments below that someone is having their guests throw leaves at them instead of rice, and I think that idea is fantastic! Love all the ideas on here, keep them coming! Feel free to contact me at mehgan.jeffers@gmail.com for other ideas or questions.

I am planning a wedding for october 27, 2008 (probably). This is my second marriage and my (currenlty) 8 1/2 year old daughter is going to be very involved. She is going to walk me down the isle and stand with me at the alter. (Father & maid of honor in one). We are not going to have a bridal party, and the schedule of events is going to be pre-ceremony reception (since weddings don’t usually start on time & to give guests a chance to mingle), leading directly into the ceremony, and followed by the reception. Everything is going to be in the church (which I haven’t seen yet, but trust my future in-laws), no drinking allowed. It is going to be a small weding, about 40-50 people. My “tag line” is more festive than formal, more fun than traditional. Any thoughts would be great!
October 17th, 2007 at 10:55 pm
I’m really glad i found all of you. You all have such great ideas and things that may make my decisions alot easier. My wedding is set for November 15, 2008. I’m excited and stressed at the same time. I would love more suggestions for centerpieces and decorations. One of you said you were going to do candied apples, that is funny b/c i wanted to do caramel apples. I love the idea. I was thinking of setting them on the tables as part of the decoration though. Maybe have a simple note on it to let them know they could take them. Keep the ideas coming. I have a sheet full of them now thanks you you guys. Congratulations!!!
October 8th, 2007 at 12:56 pm
Second, I would put them in a bag with a note attached saying something like
“Rice is nice, but leaves are more fun,
to wish the newlyweds well,
on the new life they’ve begun”
Brides name, Grooms Name

URGENT: I’m getting married next weekend! October 13. I have one last dilema (HA) — I’m having the guests throw leaves as we leave the church instead of birdseed, bubbles, etc. I plan to gather these and put them in brown paper lunch sacks. My question here is do I need to put anything on the bag to indicate what needs to be done with the leaves, or do you think the guests will figure it out? My mom has fought me quite a bit on this idea, so I’m really hoping it turns out *perfectly*. Thanks in advance!
September 23rd, 2007 at 2:07 pm
GO WITH THE COLORS THAT YOU LIKE. IT IS YOUR DAY AND ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT. DON’T STRESS OUT THAT WILL ONLY MAKE IT WORSE. GO WITH COLORS THAT GO WITH THE THEME OF YOUR WEDDING. WE ARE HAVING A FALL WESTERN WEDDING. THE MEN WILL BE WEARING BOOTS AND HATS, BUT WE ARE USING PUMPKINS, LEAVES AND HAYBALES AS PART OF OUR DECORATIONS. PICK A THEME, THEN TRY TO DECIDE YOUR COLORS, MAYBE IT WILL MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK!
September 23rd, 2007 at 10:38 am
Yeah, I figured it probably would not work for fall, Im just having a hard time deciding on the colors! gosh this is so stressful!
September 23rd, 2007 at 9:29 am
NOT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, I THINK THAT IT WOULD DEPEND ON THE SHADE AND WHAT OTHER COLORS YOU ARE USING. WHEN MOST PEOPLE THINK OF FALL THEY THINK DARKER SHADES, I AM USING WINE AND A DARKER SHADE OF BLUE WITH A TANNISH COLOR ACCENT. BUT IT IS YOUR WEDDING GO OUTSIDE THE BOX IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT GO FOR IT. MY BRIDESMAID ARE MOSTLY A TAN COMPLEXION SO THE DARKER COLORS WILL LOOK NICE ON THEM.
September 23rd, 2007 at 6:58 am
I just love that idea! when is your wedding again? Congrats to you too! Let me ask you this question, I really wanted fuschia to be one of my colors, but I am afraid it will look weird for an october wedding, what do you think???
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:14 pm
I am gonna find a heart shaped stencil, trace it on , and cut it like you would a jack o latern. Then I am gonna put in a votive holder with a candle. I am using real pumpkins, you may be able to find them already done I have never looked. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS!
September 21st, 2007 at 3:21 pm
Hey, I am having a wedding October 11, 2008 and looking for creative ideas for the reception and liked the heart carved pumpkins idea, are you having someone do them for you or can you purchase them like that?
September 20th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
instead of luminaries, I am using pumpkins with hearts cut out of them instead of faces, with candles, and on the tables I am using pumpkins with flowers and candles, instead of the flowergirl throwing flowers I am using maple leaves. Hope this helps

DASHIELL MCCLAIN:
I love purple too, but i just dont think light purple goes well with red. For a fall theme, I would choose a deep, rich purple. If you are set on light purple, then definately go with a dusty, muted shade. Burnt orange and raisin might work well. Or, if its red you are set on, how about a deep red, or maroon, and raisin.
Just some thoughts
September 5th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
IM WONDERING IS A REDISH COLOR GOOD WITH A LIGHT PURPLE OR CAN U GIVE ME A SUGGESTION.WHICH IS GOOD?OR IS IT GOOD?PURPLE IS MY FAVORITE COLOR,I LIKE ANY SHADE OF PURPLE

CENTERPIECE IDEAS!!!
I’m getting married this fall as well and have seen TONS of various centerpiece ideas! Here are a few:
~ Take various fruits (apples, oranges, pears), poke holes in the top, and stick (very) short-stemmed flowers in them. These actually look pretty! The ones I saw paired colors like oranges with dark red mums. They were neat!
~ Using floral styrofoam (I guess whatever shape you’d like), dip it in water (just enough to get it a little wet). Then put short-stemmed flowers all in it. The one I saw was a ball-shaped styrofoam hung from the ceilings over the tables, so they didn’t take up table space, yet still decorated it. They were so pretty! They were hung with brown vines that had orange and yellow berries on them.
~ In one magazine, I saw trees. They’re homemade and not REALLY trees, but brown twiney vine stuff. (Oh I’m terrible at describing things!) Anyway. On these, they had orange votive holders on the branches, so every centerpiece had several little candles.

My aunt is getting married on October 6, in upstate NY. My two young daughters are in the wedding (ages 2 and 7). The flower girl dresses are white and red. Is it alright for them to wear white shoes? If not, any suggestions? Thanks! -Tara

I am a going to be getting married in Sept.08. I have my dress picked out my bridesmaids dresses and they are wearing cinnamon. I need some ideas, because we are getting married in our front yard which is a grassy two acres with out any trees.
Good luck to all of you fall brides!!

I’m getting married Oct. 20th and my colors are claret (between a red and burgandy) and ivory. I want to stick to a country/fall theme and our reception is in a quaint barn. My problem is what to use for centerpieces. The tables are round and hold six people. I will have ivory table cloths with claret napkins. What can I do that’s not pumpkin related? Also, it’s a noon wedding, so candlelight is out. Thanks.

Hi, I am having an October 2008 Wedding and the only thing I am stuck on is what kind of food to serve! I want something that feels like Fall. Any Suggestions would be great! thanks!
August 9th, 2007 at 10:26 am
Lorrie- Thank you for the suggestion.. Lucky for me I found a sale on table covers, So that problem is solved. Also I work at a casino and I have a few friends in the banquet dept. that came up with some creative ways that are cost efective.
My tables are done in Chocolate Brown with gold, then a few other fall colors mixed in. Bridesmaids in brown. groom in cream, flower girls in cream with matching trim. Cute I hope.
July 30th, 2007 at 7:17 am
My wedding date is September 30, 2007 and plans are coming together nicely. I chose a fall theme with the focus being trees/wood/leaves. My dress is ivory, MOH in burnt orange and BM’s in navy blue. Bouquets will be sunflowers. We found baskets for centerpieces that have real birch bark woven in and they will have silk gerbers, leaves, acorns, black-eyed-susans and sunflowers with a real potted mini mum in the middle. They look fantastic! We will use fall leaf garland to accent the head table and cake table. The cake will be decorated to look like a white birch tree with some “peeling bark” even….
Favors will be real chocolate “leaves” which I will make myself. I found the molds on ebay and will use yellow, orange, red and brown chocolate. They will be in cellophane bags, tied with ribbon and have a hang tag with our names and date. Instead of numbers for the tables, they have tree names. No place cards, just a large seating chart to direct guests to their proper table. Good Luck to everyone planning your fall wedding!

Betty— I had a friend who rented table clothes from a place around here for like $8 a piece just a suggestion….
July 26th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
Hi!
Congrats girls!
I am also planning my wedding- it’s Sept 20, 2008 (which worked out great, as it will be 5 years exactly that date that we hooked up). Anyways, as for decorating a gazebo- my suggestion is to go the more rustic look by using grapevine/branches and some greenery and white lights wrapped around.
We are getting married outdoors in a ball diamond with an evening ceremony. We are having between 250-300 guests, so trying to seat everyone and keeping things simple, yet elegant has been difficult with cost effectiveness.
Any good suggestions?
July 23rd, 2007 at 10:47 am
The real problem that I have is that I have very long buffet tables that we are using for the seating and I need to cover them some how. In the most inexpensive way. Have any ideas.. My friend suggested long rolls of brown paper with a cloth runner down the middle. (All the fall colors of the wedding) Too tacky? Or do you think it could be pulled off?
July 23rd, 2007 at 8:36 am
I am getting married October 20th. I was reading some of the comments and thought I would share my ideas. I have Cinnamon Colored bridesmaids dresses with champagne slashes. I was worried about getting that color but when I got them I LOVED them they are gorgeous and different. The girls are having red, orange, yellow gerber daisies and I am having a huge bouquet of the fall colored roses to tie them together we are having ribbon wrapped around the stems. I am having hollowed out pumpkins white pumpkins for the reserved tables, with silk gerber daisies the color of the bridesmaids bouquets and the head table is going to have about 15 cracked glass candle holders and the table is going to be spread with silk fall leaves and orange and red rose petals. For the card box I am having a huge pumpkin hollowed out and lined with plastic. Anyways, I have lots of other ideas if you are interested I love planning this kind of stuff and have almost 2 years of planning and searching. Just let me know! Hope you have a great wedding!
July 21st, 2007 at 9:03 am
Shannon, I never thought about balloon centerpieces that is a good idea! I will have to look into that. I only have less then 3 months and just have my dress and one bridemaid dress. I just can’t seem to get things together. I have a lot of work to do in the next 2 months. Anyways, I hope all is going well.

I would run off and elope, but we love his parents to death and they are happy for us. They would love to attend. But Im affraid if my family is there they will make their snide comments and hurt my feelings on my special day. Plus if we elope, then we would have my girls with us for the honeymoon.
Any suggestions???
I had planned a fall wedding, but back in May, we cancelled our plans untill we could figure out what to do.
HELP!!
July 15th, 2007 at 4:17 am
Lily, You almost described my wedding to a tee, same day, same colors, flower girl to throw leaves, etc. How exciting! I was wondering if that was too much, but I see now it isn’t. It seems a lot of people have the same ideas.
July 11th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
I’m getting married next September and have decided on making candy apples for the favors. I’ll be wrapping them in clear cellophane then tying them with raffia. I figure I’ll just put them into an old wooden crate at the reception as people are coming in. I’m also doing the burnt orange and navy blue theme. Have you guys ever thought of doing stuff with balloons for centrepieces? i found some really cool ideas online.

I am also planning a fall wedding. October 6, 2007, I haven’t decided on bridesmaid dresses but we are going this weekend. I actually want each bridesmaid to wear a different color dress….I love the colors burnt orange, truffle, gold. Do you think that is crazy? I also am planning to have calla lillies in the bouquet….I still have a lot of planning to do. We are having it outside then reception in a barn. Any ideas would be great!!!

Kristal, how about this?
- acorns
- that chic bird and twig motif (cute with the birds nest favors and blue Jordan almond “eggs”)
- ferns
- ‘perfect pear’ or apples
- or work it around a fall flower: sunflowers, mums
- or use an image of a beautiful whole tree, which is a lovely symbol of new life … if I think of any more, I’ll post them …

I’m getting married on September 22! I live in Greensboro, NC & plan to have my wedding outside. I’m making my own invitations and I am struggling with the time of the ceremony and reception. What is a good way to plan the right time for everything to happen since you have to worry about the weather, how much food to have and where the sun is going to be?

I am a fall bride as well… October 11! I am planning on a autumn themed wedding as well. I am going with black bridemaids dresses, and my dress is white. My flowers are AMAZING! I am carrying orange roses and black magic roses, my girls are carrying orange roses. My centerpieces are my favorite, glass vases with candy corn, and small pumpkins inside of them with my flowers on top! I have mini sunflowers, black magic roses, orange roses, wheat, spider mums, and dasies! I am sooo excited! I wanted to do themed table names, any ideas?

Well I am yet another October bride - the 27th. And I have chosen burnt orange and navy blue as my colors, along with antique ivory and cream. Everything is turning out beautifully and I cannot wait. My bridesmaids and I are still working on center pieces - i just envision A LOT of candles being involved.
As for flowers - if you haven’t seen a mango calla lilly - I suggest you take a look if you have orange anywhere in your color scheme - they really make things pop.

I just got engaged and my wedding is in October. I am going in circles trying to get my ideas organized. This is my second wedding, my fiancee’s first. I really did not plan my first wedding so I am doing the planning pretty much by myself. Right now I am trying to come up with theme colors. I like the idea of burnt orange, but what else? Does anyone know of any really great websites or magazines that help with colors and themes? I really would appreciate your help.

I have been trying to do all of the planning for my wedding myself. It is in Oregon at the end of September. It to, will be outdoors. Have any suggestions? I have been thinking of different hughes of oranges, browns, and a few other fall colors mixed in through out. I have dress, and the flower girls. Trying to keep costs down to a minimum. I like the ideas of mums mixed in with the roses. Do you think decorating with pumpkins a long with all of that is to tacky?

In response to Dancia, I saw a cake decorated with pink & green hydrangea and roses. The colors were more dusty and deep than light, so sage and dusty rose would be a great combination for you to try. The cake was two circle layers with the flowers at the base and in between the two layers and frosted with rich brown chocolate icing. It looked amazing. Don’t stress too much about favors. I’m sending people home with donuts and mini jugs of cider for my fall wedding - my reception is at a barn. Chocolate or fudge is great especially if it’s a fmaily recipe, cookies too. Find something you & the groom love and send people home with a little of it, or forgo the favors all together. People are soo tired of tacky favors that mean nothing, so skip it and use that money to have more flowers, candles, or dessert ect.

my wedding is in september…my dress is a kind of vanilla , silk georgette, flowy and romantic not structured and big. the bridesmaids dresses are like a milk chocolate brown (not dark) and they’re holding dahlias (in a magenta color)…they guys are going to be in brown suits…the ceremony is outside on the edge of a forest and has a gazebo. someone mentioned not knowing what to do with it, i’m having white chinese paper lanterns in different sizes (it’s an evening wedding) hanging from the ceiling…then wrappig white lights around the two entry posts with tulle over them. we’re not actually going to stand inside because my fiance is 6′3, we’re going to stand in front of it and i think i’m going to have the priest stand on the step (he’s a little short-ha!). my mom and i are doing the center pieces we’re stacking two different size square mirrors on each other at angles and putting the vase in the center. i have collected vintage votives that i’m putting at the four corners. the flowers are going to be hydrangeas (which turn a mauvey pink/taupe in sep) with the dahlias (we just planted all the bulbs!)and sprigs of rosemary curling out like branches.

We are planning our fall wedding. It is taking a lot of creativity to plan.
I made the dresses for the bridesmaides black and all the accesories are fall colors. Yes, centerpieces are the issue for me also. I saw a wonderful picture of a fall reception decor using branches from the centerpiece for height. Mini light decorated the branches for a lighting effect. We have forund the perfect fall site… a botanical garden. It is an evening wedding / reception. Groom’s tux is a cream color w/ blk piping. I made the bouquets, wine, burnt orange arrangements w/ chocolate ribbon. Basic colors- Black for foundational color, burnt orange, wine, and cream to brighten the colors. I can’t wait to se it all together.

I am also planning a fall wedding. Just in response to centerpiece suggestions. I found a beautiful pic in a magazine..they just took a potted mum, put it in a nice copper coloured pot, added several single roses in the mum (with water tube left at stem), and also added beautiful chinese lanterns, as well as leafy folage. It looks beautiful..they also added small orange candles around the arrangement. I was also thinking that adding dried leaves to the centerpiece would be nice, and just skatter a few on the table as well.

Try www.paperdirect.com for some wonderful autumn invitations. For my September 07 wedding I chose the Umbria design for postcards, envelopes, reply cards, seals and return address. Best Wishes!

Please HELP!!! We are planning on getting married on a Yachtin November’ 07, I live in NY. The yacht will leave from a pier in Manhattan. Our guests are coming in from many places so I though a NYC theme would be cool. They’d get a cruise around the Hudson River taking in the views. Another thing, I want to honor my mother by using her favorite color in our wedding(She loves Sage). In my MIL’s honor I’ll be using her favorite flower (Roses). So now I’m having a hard time putting all this together so it will look like “A” THEME not mish mashed together!
So I have a NYC Yacht Wedding in Nov. 07. Our colors are SAGE and CHAMPAGNE and the flowers of choice are cream colored roses. Any ideas on how to tie it all together?
P.S. Have no clue on the favors!!!

I’m planning an outdoor wedding in September. The place we’re hoping to have it is in a park on an island in the middle of a small lake. Our color’s will be navy, burgandy and chocolate. We’ll be carrying a combination of mum’s and rose’s. Right now I’m trying to decide on if I want an arch for us to stand under while we get married or not. Any suggestion’s?

I am getting married in October (2007) and after this weekend have finalized my colors based on dress shopping and a flower. It started with the orange-rust calla lily. From there I decided to have chocolate bridesmaid dresses (three will have a champagne sash and two will have a taupe sash). They will each carry one of the long stem calla lillies while the maid and matron of honor will carry three and two respectively. I will have the miniture in a bundle bouquet. All the bouquets will have a burnt orange ribbon down the stems. That’s all so far, but the rest will coordinate with what I have so far…good luck to any one else planning a wedding!
