Want a country-style wedding with rusticity and charm by the bucketful? Envisioning a glorious ride for two around the hayfield? See yourself gliding down the aisle in a fresh-as-summer cotton eyelet gown?
Then you've found the right place to help you pull off that special event you've always dreamed of!
Back to the Land
Start with a palette of earthy tones: yellows and golds, tans and umbers, sage and russet, celadon and cinnamon.
Then, try building the theme around your favorite rustic flower (like sunflowers, black-eyed susans or daisies), or a carefree member of the insect world, such as bees, butterflies or dragonflies.
For a venue, try a cornfield or a wheatfield, barn or cabin. Tents can travel to all kinds of charming spots. Call around for camps and lodges that lightly booked and eager for business (though be aware that really remote locales may pose challenges for grandparents in the Lincoln Town Car ... not to mention tricky logistics involving electricity, catering, DJs and so on).
A Touch of Country
Fancy up wedding arches, rafters and other focal spots with branches, bundles of corn stalks and sheaves of wheat. If you're lucky enough to be holding your event in a barn or a lodge, wrap any rafters and pillars in elegant twinkle lights.
More great accents: ears of dried corn, grapevine wreaths, hanging lanterns, and gourds and pumpkins (carve out your monogram, then give them some glow with a votive or a battery-powered light).
To jazz up personal focal points like favors and place settings, start with raffia ties and cinnamon sticks, individual wheat stalks or lavender springs, or Mason jars, burlap bags and small pots of jam or honey.
Country-Style Centerpieces
It's simple to set the table with a little down-home glory. Candles are inherently rustic, so start there: tealights floating in water-filled mason jars, for example. Or tuck pillar candles into terra cotta pots, or place in glass cylinders filled with popcorn, dried peas or
coffee beans.
Casual flowers make a big, joyous statement at a reasonable price. Try massing cheerful sunflowers in galvanized pails or watering cans. (You can even use a sunflower's enormous, friendly face as your ring pillow.) Or instead of sunflowers, try sprays of shasta daisies, lupine and viburnum mixed in with small green apples wired to birch branches, or stuck to dowels. Another popular choice: group colorful Gerber daisies into simple mason jars.
Speaking of birch branches, elegant bare-branch centerpieces can be set in any pot and anchored with Quik-Crete for sturdiness. They look especially lovely when lit with hanging votives. Then, warm up those dark corners and windowsills with evocative punched tin lanterns.
More Ways to Make it Country
Give your guest an adorable first impression by hanging escort cards from wooden clothespins on a clothesline strung near the entrance.
Want some drama when it's time to walk back down the aisle as husband and wife? Equip your best men with the goods to create an arch of pitchforks!
Finally, once it's time to eat, dress up the chair backs at the sweetheart table with dramatic sheaves of wheat tied off with russet ribbons or roses. And if your main meal's held outside, you could set the stage with homey touches like buffet or serving tables made from planks set on hay bales and sawhorses. As for the guests, set up picnic-style seating with checkered, gingham or eyelet linens.
Galvanized washtubs look gorgeous filled with ice and drinks in vintage-style bottles (think: Stewart's Sodas — and ask your local suppliers about their best-tasting microbrews.) Don't forget the oversized jars filled with fresh iced tea and cold apple cider.
Treat your guests to home-cooked soul food like pot roast and pulled pork, fritters and cornbread, apple cider donuts and fruit pies.
As for cake, try any of the Autumn-style flavors on for size (spice or carrot, apple or pumpkin ...). Decorate with your favorite fresh flowers, making sure they're unsprayed and organic.

Wow, I can give you a few ideas. I was married this last Saturday at a rustic church that was built in the late 1800’s. We had flowers that were just tied together with raffia and we used paper ribbon “paper twist” for all the bows. The lady hung grapvine wreaths in the windows and on some of the pews and we put bows on them. The men’s flowers had a little raffia tied around the stem. Very rustic. Our cake was set on a tree stump (you can find this idea at theknot.com). I made 5 kinds of homemade cookies and had large cookie jars (ikea…cheap) with brown paper sacks printed like our napkins for favors. My ring barrier carried a bird’s nest and the flower girl carried a plain basket with handle. The guys wore brown tuxes. We recycled our flowers from the wedding by making holders for the reception buffet table and we put them in there for the reception. We had a shoe string budget, so we made the most of everything. Our wedding was at 2:00 so for food we had meatballs in gravy, veggie tray, carved melon with fruit, cheese ball ring, and the biggest hit a potato bar. Everyone loved this. Instead of doing another cake we had a chocolate fountain for the groom. Everything turned out great and everyone loved the more laid back rustic approach. I hope all goes well for you too.

Back again for some more advice, I really appreciate all the amazing ideas earlier. I am set for June 7, 2008 with a camping themed wedding. I am currently working on the ceremony and need some suggestions for readings. It is a semi-casual affair, outdoor ceremony, we are going to have tree branches, and little teddy bears roasting marshmallows on the tables, dragon fly string lights, brown & green with hints of burgandy. Flowers are hopefully to include white daisies. PLEASE PLEASE help. We are NOT having a religious ceremony, it will be done by a magistrate. We want to keep it simple, but sweet. THANKS!

I am getting married on June 28th. Were have our wedding out on the lawn next to an old barn. The reception will be in the barn.I am trying to plan a wedding that has a rustic country feel. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or pictures for decorations? I have been looking on line for a website that helps plan a wedding with this kind of feel, with no luck. Does anyone know of any websites I should check out. Thank you very much, I hope you can help me.

Melanie,
I don’t live in CT, but maybe you can find a state/national park near you. There are always weddings at park and usually the venue fee is very reasonable. Also, who doesn’t love a state park. The grounds are always kept extremely nice and there are always lots of natural wildlife, flowers, scenery to work with. Also, if your reception is going to be relaxed, such as a bbq would suggest, a park/natural area would be a perfect place to hold a wedding/reception. If you are unsure about a location of a state park, I am sure you could call CT state parks main number and recieve info about locations. Hope this helps.

Ooh, another lovely picture of a barn wedding. Love it!
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:41 am
Then, here’s some photos of a family getting ready for a barn wedding, setting up for barbeque, and tricking out all the tables. They actually brought trees into the barn, and decorated the trees and rafters with paper lanterns and twinkle lights. Gorgeous ‘rustic’ flowers, too — sunflowers, gladiolas — tons of color. This was a brilliant wedding.
January 23rd, 2008 at 4:38 am
Tina, a few photos/pics to get you started … first, a highly renovated barn, with really cute touches: hay bales, gorgeous ‘fall fruit’ cake, and personal photos of family & friends displayed with clothespins …

okay so my colors are Black, White, and Silver, but i want it to look cowboyish not to country but just touches here and there, are the colors i choose okay for a country themed wedding?
December 7th, 2007 at 2:55 am
Kathy, while people might not advertise it on billboards you are definitely NOT alone in having a wedding that didn’t quite live up to your dreams. Sometimes these huge events just don’t go right. You hear about brides who are just so disgusted with how it went that they want to do the whole thing over again. The expense is boggling!
If you can retake some photos and salvage some joy from a do-over of this very important part of any wedding, the photos, I think that is brilliant, not tacky. You’ll have pictures you truly love to show your children, and whether or not the wedding disasters ever get distant enough to be, well, slightly droll (IF they do!), you’ll at least have these photos to savor.
December 6th, 2007 at 5:06 pm
Hey thanks Blake! I didn’t get to take any pictures outside on our wedding day because it had poured rain for 2 days before my wedding. I was very disappointed. Not only that my hair was a huge disaster. I would love several different kinds of photos. I love black and white so definetly some of those and any other ideas you might have are very welcome. Thanks agian!
December 6th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Hi Kathy, what kind of pictures are you thinking of? Anyway, NO, definitely not tacky. Are you thinking ‘trash the dress’ style photos or some kind of arty wedding dress shots? Or did you just want some bridal portraits to remember?
Brides do this a lot for various reasons. Some want portraits before the big day but don’t want to risk sullying the main dress. And like I said, Trash the Dress shots are increasingly popular and SO much fun to look at, just like a magazine spread. Then, there are the brides who wear a second dress to the reception, and so on … it’s completely up to you!
December 6th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Would it be too tacky for me to take pictures in another dress than the one I got married in? I bought a dress for my store and it’s exactly what I wanted but didn’t get. Let me know what you think.
November 26th, 2007 at 5:07 pm
I wish I would have found this website before I got married! I had a disaster of a wedding. I had a homemade dress, that looked nothing like I wanted, flowers that were just plain ugly, a cake that looked like it had legs and then there was my hair, it looked like I didn’t even care. Good luck everyone. I wish you better than what happened to me.
November 25th, 2007 at 1:46 am
tashina,
i think sage green and brown will look great. i hope they dont clash they are my wedding colors for june 2008. chocolate brown tuxes and bridesmaid dresses. green flowers. green hydrangeas, cymbidium orchids and jade roses.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
OK, a few more pics. First is a wheat-theme wedding cake …
Second, some wheat decorations for a bridal shower. They’re low-key obviously… but it’s not hard to imagine how lovely those really simple CPs would look if you tucked some red roses around the mouth of the cylinders (in a wreath shape) and scattered red rose petals around the base.
Third … you can’t really see what’s going on here, but this couple is pouring wheat grains from two smaller jars into a larger one. A “unity grain” ceremony. I think that’s touching and creative for this kind of wedding.
November 16th, 2007 at 10:10 pm
Hi Jessika, Giselle!
I love that CP, Giselle, thanks for posting it.
Here are a few bouquet pics … after this I found a few more general wedding ones.
November 16th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
Jessika,
I found one…not bad…
November 16th, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Jessika,
I love your idea of wheat and red roses, if you don’t mind…I might borrow this. Now I have seen a variety of decorations with wheat, where…I don’t remember. You can try good old Marth Stewart, I recall some items there for table decorations. I recall stacks of wheat about 1 foot high tied with ribbon in a fan type of fashion. Sorry but it is really hard to describe. I will keep my eye open as I search for my own ideas. Good luck
November 16th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
i really want to add lots of wheat into my decorations and favors and even flower boquets- however i am having a hard time finding any pictures of decorations with wheat- does anybody have any ideas? we are also going to be using a lot of red- so picture red roses and wheat- country and elegent!
October 16th, 2007 at 2:36 pm
Susie, I believe those are very cleverly made with some double-sided tape, painted tires and large garbage bags. But if anyone knows where to get pre-made ones, please post …

Where do I get the hay bil bride and groom outfits?
October 4th, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Christin,
I have the same dilemma to a degree as yours. We have decided to have our guests walk over to the town hall after the church ceremony for refreshments and bites to tide them over before the reception on our home farm in the barn. This will give us time to take pictures and be on site in time to greet our guests back at home. If you are certain this is where you would like your events to take place I would keep it as is and come up with additional plans. You can have folks meet at destination close to the church to give you time to get there and perhaps to take of other things. And having a 5:00 dinner might be called for instead. I think this is acceptable by any means. You can create some interesting points along your travel route, signs, posters etc…just to provide an extra something. Our town church is about 15 minutes from our home and this is also an appropriate amount of time to expect guests to drive. We also plan to do some car pooling just to help out here. The church to the hall is only a few minutes walking distance. I will plan to have umbrellas available should the weather turn on us this day. Good luck.
October 3rd, 2007 at 10:34 pm
We are having a catholic wedding in our church. However, the ceremony can be no latter than 2. I want to have a early evening, 6ish reception in a barn. Our church is in downtown and where I want to have our reception is close to 30 minutes from our church. Any ideas? Or should I switch ideas all together?
Thanks!

i’m having a john deere themed wedding, and i need ideas. it’s going to be inside, and i need ideas for the tables and what goes on them. also in the church there’s not really to much room for decor, so i only have a few windows that i can decorate or set something in them. also i need favor ideas. i thought about green and yellow colored popcorn kernels in a mason jar with john deere fabric at the top.

adding a few ideas originally sent to candice
tiki torches lining the aisle for an evening ceremony!
lots of blankets, sunscreen and bug spray/lotion if outside
also big on gourment BBQ ideas - nice apple smoked sausages, bison burgers and my favorite cheese (blue cheese in particular)! Potato salad, roasted corn on the cob
I love the idea of having a brownie ‘wedding cake’ - precut with icing or cupcakes decorated with leaves, pinecones, flowers
Idea from candice in case she isnt reading this anymore - personalized flashlights as favors. My favor idea was for camping cutlery (the three piece set on a ring).
Also thought setting up your invitation like a camping brochure would be fun. Include everything on a 8.5 x 11 with a map on the back. Easy to set up on your computer for a really casual event.
September 26th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
OK, here are a couple of camping theme ideas, but please add yours since these are only a few!
Food: shish kebab, barbeque, or gourmet hot dogs. There are some truly outstanding hot dogs, especially from the east coast: offer people gourmet mustards and cheese to combine them with, carmelized onions, etc. … try to get your guests to stay over and do a pancake breakfast the next morning with bacon and OJ.
Decor: lanterns like you said, leaves are nice here, birch branches (you can use these in centerpieces or lash them to a wedding arch). There are some beautiful rustic invitations that use twigs. Moss is a great material for “campifying” centerpieces.
If you can get an attractive canoe prop it up and fill it with ice buckets and drinks (or if a really old canoe, fill the whole thing with ice, it will look great). Also see a Fishing Theme wedding.
For favors, there are these little gourmet s’more tins you can hand out (not sure where to get these). Or put gourmet trail mix in small cello or organza bags. Here is a decadent type of trail mix, or you can make your own from fine chocolate, macadamia nuts, whatever floats your boat. bird nest holders for Jordan almonds are a classic for ‘rustic.’ For the kids, put gummi worms and gummi fish in little bags.
A camping wedding is a great excuse to have gourmet s’mores over a campfire. Homemade marshmallows are really a revelation, one that most people might not ever experience otherwise. Upgrade to gourmet chocolate. You can make available all kinds of other toppings too like caramel squares, raspberry sauce, peanut butter. There’s an entire (fun) book dedicated to gourmet s’mores by Lisa Adam at Amazon. Hope this helps!

Nice to know I’m not the only one having a camping/coutry outdoor wedding. I was beginning to feel like I was out of this world. Keeping it simple and cozy. Any ideas on favors? I have lanterns as centerpieces
September 26th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
I just wanted to through this out there. While looking for decorations and items that had a country/rustic feel, I cam across this website that had many wonderfull items. The website is www.collectionsetc.com
Also, the items are inexpensive but great. There is nothing over $20.00. I ordered a couple of wagons and quilt racks and love them. You would never guess they were so cheap by the quality. There are lots of items and lots of seasonal items but it is worth the time it take to go through the items. Hope this can help someone.

Giselle, I know a lot of people use plastic cutlery and paper plate for informal-style meals like a pig roast, even at a wedding. Sometimes even at garden weddings.
Of course you can go fancier if you want to, but if you don’t, you’ll have plenty of company.
Also, you’re right about not wanting guests to pitch in and work. Teens are cheap and glad for the work! If you can hire two or three for the afternoon it will be SO much easier to serve the food, keep the beverages stocked and keep people moving. They can also help you with set-up and tear-down. It will make a big difference.
September 14th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Kathy, thank you for taking the time to respond. It is a great thing that you did because it was not until you mentioned weather did I even consider this really. Your right, it would be a long ride in any extreme weather. I am hoping I would of thought of it eventually!!!! Well, we will certainly have on site the horses and wagon for the kiddies and young at heart. We are welcoming all the little people and will plan accordingly for them as well. Thanks again, much appreciated. I am still looking for advice on how to handle the buffet arrangements. I am able to accomodate a sit down dinner for all 50 plus in one large square sitting area but again buffet style will have some done before others start. I have to really think this one out, any experience with this out there?
September 14th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
I am thinking of getting married late July 2008 in a rented rustic cabin. It has a nice big room that they tell me is often used for wedding receptions and such. i thought I would have the food and dancing in this room, and the ceremony on the front porch. Here is my problem . . . I would love to have my colors be a pale pink and sage green (predominantly), and I’m afraid this will clash with the browns and earthy tones that will be needed to make it “rustic”. What do u think????? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
September 6th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Giselle, I do have thoughts on your idea about the hayride with the guests. If it takes less that 30 minutes it might work. I would just consider the weather. If it’s very hot then it’s probably not a good idea. But instead of that why not offer hay rides for the kids during the reception? Just an idea. Tell me what you think.
August 31st, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Thank you to everyone who took the time to post their ideas. I am also having a July 2008 county barn wedding, in my own yard!. I have several timing concerns as we are hosting our own wedding and hope someone will be kind enough to share their thoughts with me. The majority of our guests (50 max) will need to travel at least 2 hours to get to us. As an additional thought I would love to have our guests travel by horse and wagon to the church from the house but this would take under an hour each way. Our little town is only 10 minutes by car but the wagon will take longer. Does this sound too long to put a group of folks through?
However, this time for my guests travel would allow me to have an hour on each end. I am thinking I can finish little details around the house or myself as the company is gone and still arrive to the church in time and have most of the pictures finished by the time they get back? Or so I hope. I am concerned that they will all arrive back to our home and we are not here to assist with their welcome. And if they do, any ideas how to get them to settle in and get comfortable without us here? And how should I handle the serving and lining up of food?
We are having a pig roast buffet for early evening. As the hostess and host, we would like for our company to come and have a great time and feel awkward asking for someone else to get up and dish food, serve etc. etc. . I suppose we should eat first according to every other wedding I have been to, but we feel like we should be eating last as hosts to our company. We would in any other event with people in our home, so I am not sure how to do this one. Also…I see many other folks here are doing picnics, bbq’s and well we are having an old fashion pig roast with all the classic trimmings. Can I use plastic cutlery, paper plates etc.??? Any thoughts out there ladies? Much appreciated.

planning a fall 2008 wedding. So my aunt thought we could plant white pumpkins to carve Bride and Grooms names in -one way to scratch into before harvest-the scar will heal, also carv part way through and put tealight inside to use for a luminaire. you could punch the holes all the way through then pop little mini white lights in holes. I use battery operated lites. Use mini pumpkins to hold name /place cards- just cut a small slice in top of stem to slide card into. Also use your pumpkins carved out for vases fill with water or floral foam. Dont forget gourds.. Plant your own to lower budget.
If you need hay bales. just stop at a farm with cows and they may let you borrow them without a fee as long as you return them. We actually have a farm and loan out bales. Little pumpkins are cute with the tops cut out leaving stems on as you would for a jack-o-lantern except you dont carve a face.–just re attach the top at an angle on the side with somethine ,i used a cut nail( like they use in putting down pine floors of reproduction homes) leave it showing at the top tie raffia bow on to the nail -insert a votive candle. Adorable at each place setting-beware of children. Also carve guests name into mini pumpkin or gourd before done growing so it can heal. Depending on number of guests this could be used for showers or rehearsal dinners.
I also went on line and searched for apple and pumpkin desserts and used family recipes. Let friends and relatives help u if your ‘e on a tight budget. My brother even built a cinder block fireplace at his outdoor wedding in october it was cold but he had a rental tent and it worked great. No concrete to put it together. He just stacked them. And took it apart after.

Servers are those you see that hold pie plates, usually 2 or 3 tiers. just replace with plates to match your colors. I used mustard with fall leaves. pattern I found at Christmas Tree Shops. Just $1 or $2 each I used 3. Also found at Goodwill and Christmas Tree Shop for
Servers are those wrought iron stands you see for holding pies. Just replace with a plate to match your colors. Usually come 2 or 3 tier. I also found 2 at Goodwill for $2 large and small which held a saucer/lunch plate size or even a bowl. I used the bowl for a cool-whip pumpkin spice dip and bottom with a plate that held cookies/fried won-tons dipped in cinnamon or vanilla sugar.
I found 3 Tier servers also at Christmas Tree Shops for $5 They had black, and gold. One with a rope design, and one narrower and smooth. All you have to do is spray paint them
I also scattered silk fall leaves on white tablecloth to fill in spaces of white, and used silk flowers. Fresh mum plants, gourds. To get guests up and dancing I gave them all cowboy hats. Also found Soooo cheap at Target in their dollar section Yes only $1.00. Good Luck

Email me at gwarthen@hotmail.com and let me know. THank you?!

We are getting married in April at a church built in the late 1800’s. The church is in a very wooded are, you can not see the road from the church or vise versa. We are planning a country theme. With old lanterns as center pieces, mason jars with tea lights hanging around the outdoor reception pavillion, and raffia instead of ribbon. I plan on having a true picnic themed reception, with fried chicken, potato salad, cole slaw, corn on the cob, and baked beans. Sweet tea and Lemonade with cokes, water & maybe beer in a metal washtub of ice. Also I’m thinking of giving favor boxes filled with the brown paper filler with the makings of s’mores in them tied up with raffia for a favor. I would like to know if this sounds ok or not?

Lynn,
I would try garden centers or craft stores like Michaels. Also, try going to www.etchesinstone.com. It might be a bit more money, but he may give you a significant deal on quantity.

Jessika,
I think if you add a little yellow that would be completely summery. More important then colors is the texture of the colors and how you will be using them. The bouquets and flowers could have pink and red, with a little yellow here and there and hand tied with a cream ribbon. The Tables could be covered in red and cream checkered gingham, you could but another color with the ribbons, with napkins. I think even the worst possible color combinations can work if you think about texture.
By the way. I looooove the idea of the barn and am totally envious. The posibilities seem endless. I saw this barn reception site online where someone made curtains around the barn doors, with a gauzy material and had hay on the floor under the tables. I don’t know any one with a barn like that so I am going for a rustic goddess garden near a brook. My centerpieces are going to be herb baskets. I am even naming the tables after herbs. I wil be sitting at Thyme, you know… Because it is about thyme I got married.
Good luck. I think if you are stuck, just add one other accent color and work with textures.

I am getting married July 12th 2008, We are having a rustic country themed wedding- getting married in a remodeled barn with our two refinished tractors and the works- we are having our reception at a country club called rustic hills, It is very country. i am looking for ideas for colors that would be country and rustic for the summer time but not clash with the red tractors! i was thinking of a deep red, light pink, and cream but i am afraid that it is not very summery! any ideas???? my favors for the reception are going to be seed packets inside terra cotta pots, wrapped in tule with the saying- Plant these flowers and watch them bloom, just like the love of the bride and groom”. if anyone has any ideas for me - please let me know!!!

amanda,
If you google Calvin Klein Cadbury brown Tuxedo it should come up. Heads up. If your dress is off white, make sure all of the male attendants wear off white shirts or the photos of your dress will look muddy. Also, the off white shirt looks much better with this tuxedo; in my opinion.

Amanda,
My fiancee is wearing a very nice, Dark Brown tuxedo that is very thin and breezy… all things considered. It has a black undertone so that black might go. I don’t know how easy it is to find in your area. It is a Calvin Klein suit that is pin striped in texture, not color. I think if you see it you will be as pleased as I was.

Jennifer,
have you thought about a barn? I saw someone do a posh, rustic wedding reception in a barn. You can have the doors open if it is nice and have picnic tables or whatever have you inside to bring elegance to a rustic setting.
Just a suggestion

Well I’m having a spring wedding (may more than likely) and I live in northeastern oklahoma. I would like it to be outside, but with living in Oklahoma there is never a guarantee on what the weather will be like, so I am torn as to go ahead and try for an outside wedding or try to bring the outside inside and what kind of facility to have it in. I’m going with a country theme, by colors are white and baby blue, with daisies being white and just an assortment of light blue flowers, kinda like wildflowers. I don’t want to have to pay two deposits on places just so I will have a backup and then loose the money that could have went to something else. Cost is a big matter. So if anyone has any suggestions I would really really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Am having a rustic, mountain, country, Scottish, Autumn wedding. Whew! Hard to keep on track without becoming tacky. We rented a stone lodge in a state park. Decorating with burgandy and cream mums. Twinkle lights, swags of autumn leaves, pinecones and autumn flowers. Having cocktail tables covered with white linen, then tartan toppers on them. Center pieces are lanterns that are really candle holders (www.collectionsetc.com). Beverage table with galvanized tubs full of ice and beer, tea jars with lemonade and tea. Favors are mason jar mugs. Might have fans since October in Maryland is iffy, could be cool could be hot and this place doesn’t have AC. Trying very hard not to have Harvest Festival look (no pumpkins or cornucopias), not a Christmas look (easy on the pine and twinkle lights). We are having an hammered dulcimer as guests arrive. Bagpiper for the recessional, old time string band for the music. Any other ideas? This forum is great!

My hubby to be doesn’t like suits and wants to bring a bit of country into the wedding and so wants to have himself and the groomsmen dressed in moleskins (cream or black), cowboy hats and boots. The bridesmaids will be in royal blue dresses. Any ideas what colour shirts the boys can wear. Also not sure how to tie in the ‘country boys’ with the girls dresses

If you’re looking for outdoorsy/artsy ways to display flowers or candles/arrangements for the tables, check out www.fetchingpails.com They make fabric covered galvanized pails, french vases, and tubs…. and they’ll even customize them to match your color theme.

I am planning a summer wedding (June of 2008). We are both farm kids and love the country so we are travelling from the church to the reception site hayride style- pulled by my hunny’s restored John Deere A. We’re planning on having a pork BBQ with all of the fixings.
I was originally planning on having sunny yellow, white, aqua, and lime green for accents as my colors. Will this clash with my vety country reception???
Also…ANY CHEAP decorating ideas that involve homemade or natural items would be greatly appreciated!

I had a beautiful outdoor wedding 4 years ago in early october. We used a local park that had a pond. It was no charge and the park manager was good enough to even bring in chairs. For table decorations, I rented glass candle holders and bought taper candles, which were really inexpensive (about .25 per table). Then, we sprinkled rose petals around the bases, although I really like the idea of a votive in a mason jar. I had green wheat in my bouquet to set off the hydraengas, lillies and autumn colored roses. Bunches of the same green wheat were wrapped with ribbon and hung along the isles. This would also be pretty for a centerpiece. We rented a huge white plactic archway, that was so sterile looking, but the florist put ferns all around the base and lined the columns with those wavly looking twigs, tying thin wire around the twigs to secure them to the columns and weaving flowers and leaves around the wire. Luckily my Dad made all the food and we recruited family and friends to serve guests. That was probably the biggest savings. Good luck and enjoy every minute!!!

I am getting married in May 08. We are having an old-fashioned type wedding. We are getting married on the (huge) front porch of an old farm house. There are not going to be many flowers just lots of personal touches, such as a quilt rack with quilts out great-grandmothers maid, a coulple of old late 1800 chuch benches and a couple of potted plants. The reception is going to be a help yourself BBQ, and I made strawberry jam for wedding favors. We are also going to use glavanized tubs filled with ice for our glass bottled drinks. I found a dress that I loved that is coved with lace and has a stole. The guys attire is just dark suits with a matching tie. There are also 7 (yes 7) nieces and nephews in the wedding so we are sure to have a great time. If anyone has any other suggestion I would appreciate your help.

Does anyone have a picture of a twig arbor? I love the idea but having a hard time picturing it. How do you make one? Thanks!

Sara, just a thought…don’t waste money on linen napkins, get some beautiful paper ones that have your wedding colors and roll them up and tie them with raffia. Also for a special table, like your cake table, use a quilt for the table cover… You also can go to the local thrift stores and get all different fabrics in cremes and whites and make it very rustic looking for the table covers.good luck

I am having an autumn wedding, outside an historic farmhouse with recepiton in the barn. I’m doing the hay bales as seating for the actual wedding. My bridesmaids will be in dark truffle brown. My flower girl wearing a pinafore, holding the wild flower heads in the apron part. My ring bearer dressen in knickers, suspenders, and snap cap. We are then hosting a cocktail hour on the lawn with warm cider and champagne primarily for photo opportunites. The reception will provide a traditional amish dinner for guests, served by the local amish restaurant. We found a cheap and unique idea for centerpieces by using oil lamps. The hardest time I am having is finding bartenders for hire to serve beer and wine, and finding somewhere to rent linens and tables. I also need some help deciding that since this is a rustic, old- fashion celebration, if I should use tulle. I think tulle can really look gaudy sometimes. We are using TONS of christmas lights. Should I also use tull?

Missie, how are you going to do the BBQ? My wedding is county fair theme also it’s going to be Oct. 6, ‘07 and I still don’t know how I want everyone to get their food. I don’t know if the BBQ should still be cooking when everyone is getting there or have it already done. We are having servers to walk around and make sure everyone has want they want but should I have them server the food to everyone as well? We are going to have about 150 people.

Hi,
I am getting married this fall, 09.08.07. Putting the colors and theme of fall and coffee together. I really love the idea of having burlap favor bags but am on a very tight budget. Is it possible to make this? or is there a website that i can buy wholesale burlap bags?

My wedding is going to be indoors, but we are using a facility that is on a lake and looks like a log cabin with exposed beams and hardwood flooring. It is going to be in March of 08, so we will just begin to see flowers and spring blooming in the southeast. I plan to use mixed spring colors of gerber daisies, bulb flowers like daffodils, tulips, lillies, etc. We are having a country fair picnic theme w/ checked tablecloths, BBQ, plasticware and paper plates. We are adding touches like using raffia to tie plasticware together, goldfish in a bowl with colored glass beads on bottom and archways with lots of greenery and silk flowers to add to the spring picnic feel. My wedding planner is calling it Spring Wedding Fling: Bringing the ourdoors inside.

I am having a June 2007 wedding with the outdoor camping theme at my home and am struggling with a bouquet for myself. The wedding attire is casual and I am having a rustic type decor but need ideas for the bouquet. Is there any websites or ideas for this?

Janice. If you have an outside wedding in the fall and the wheather is cold, you can rent space heaters and opt to have sides on the tent. Look into it.
Just because I love the idea too check out Magicmud.com for custom made wedding toppers. Sooo cute. A little expensive, but it is a keeper you can put on display.

Katie, I deside to have an mid August wedding. Up here in New England it tends to rain less, the summer heat wave is hopefully and usually over, and it isn’t too close to July 4th and 2 weeks before school is back in and school shopping is on parents minds. Further, the night hopefully is not too late so we can light up our yard. ( I bought a ton of christmas lights the day after christmas )Further ideas for rustic seating. We are using stumps for legs of benches with 2 x 10’s for the seats and covered over with white fabric. We are actually arranging these for the ceremony with 3 or 4 rows on each side of the Path/aisle to look like an outside chappel.
I have mixed feelings about those disposable cameras. The last wedding I went to they had them on every table. Everyone had brought their own digitals along and were using them, in the end the father of the groom went around to use up all the cameras and try to get pictures and seemed to be a waste of money. I would check and see how many people plan on bring cameras. If there are alot then don’t use the disposables, you will have plenty of pictures from your photo happy friends.
Janice By the way, we are planning on using portatoilets. We are paying extra to have larger ones with sinks and that flush. If you are in southern vermont and having a wedding I can recommend Green Mountain Tent Rentals. You can find the exact address by googling. The owner is very helpful.

Allie, I’m getting married Oct. 6th. I’m kinda worried about money as well so here are some things we’re doing that I thought might help you out. Instead of chairs we are having everyone sit on bails of hay that are covered with fabric. With just two rows of chairs in the front for those people that need a backrest like my grandmother. The food is going to be a BBQ with all the sides. The tables are going to be covered with checkered table cloths that you can rent or make. We are using mason jars with ribbon tied around the top and we’re putting Gerbers, Sunflowers and Dasiys inside for the centerpiece. For the Favors we are putting wrapped cookies shaped like sunflowers that we are making in a big basket on each table. My bridesmaids are wearing sundresses. The grooms mother and my mother are making those, so those wont cost much. These are just a few things we are doing. I hope I helped! Good luck!

planning a fall wedding, am using carvable pumpkins for vases and small pumpkins carved for luminaries, am building a twig arbor with grape vines and fall garlands, question, does this seem too rustic, not planning to use any tuille or ribbons, just berries, pods and seasonal flowers. my daughters colors are chocolate and copper, my daughter is wearing ivory.
