A Rustic Country Wedding

Want a country-style wedding with rusticity and charm by the bucketful? Envisioning a glorious ride for two around the hayfield? See yourself gliding down the aisle in a fresh-as-summer cotton eyelet gown?

Then you've found the right place to help you pull off that special event you've always dreamed of!

Back to the Land

Country Colors

Start with a palette of earthy tones: yellows and golds, tans and umbers, sage and russet, celadon and cinnamon.

Farmhouse Flowers

Then, try building the theme around your favorite rustic flower (like sunflowers, black-eyed susans or daisies). Or borrow a carefree member of the insect world, such as bees, butterflies or dragonflies.

Festive Fields

For a venue, try a cornfield or a wheatfield, barn or cabin. Tents can travel to all kinds of charming spots. Call around for camps and lodges that lightly booked and eager for business.

Western Wedding

Add Inexpensive Accents

Fancy up wedding arches, rafters and other focal spots with branches, bundles of corn stalks and sheaves of wheat. If you're lucky enough to be holding your event in a barn or a lodge, wrap any rafters and pillars in elegant twinkle lights.

For more country touches, draw on ears of dried corn, grapevine wreaths, hanging lanterns, and gourds and pumpkins (carve out your monogram, then give them some glow with a votive or a battery-powered light).

To jazz up personal focal points like favors and place settings, start with raffia ties and cinnamon sticks, individual wheat stalks or lavender springs, or Mason jars, burlap bags and small pots of jam or honey.

Country-Style Centerpieces

Let There Be Light

It's simple to set the table with a little down-home glory. Candles are inherently rustic, so start with tea lights floating in water-filled mason jars. Or tuck pillar candles into terra cotta pots, or place in glass cylinders filled with popcorn, dried peas or coffee beans.

Farmers' Market Flowers

Casual flowers make a big, joyous statement at a reasonable price. Try massing cheerful sunflowers in galvanized pails or watering cans. (You can even use a sunflower's enormous, friendly face as your ring pillow.) Or try sprays of shasta daisies, lupine and viburnum mixed in with small green apples wired to birch branches, or stuck to dowels. Or group colorful Gerber daisies into simple mason jars.

Twig to This Clever Idea

Speaking of birch branches, elegant bare-branch centerpieces can be set in any pot and anchored with Quik-Crete for sturdiness. They look especially lovely when lit with hanging votives. Then, warm up those dark corners and window sills with evocative punched tin lanterns.

More Rustic Touches

Give your guest an adorable first impression by hanging escort cards from wooden clothespins on a clothesline strung near the entrance.

When it's time to eat, dress up the chair backs at the sweetheart table with dramatic sheaves of wheat tied off with russet ribbons or roses. And if your main meal's held outside, you could set the stage with homey touches like buffet or serving tables made from planks set on hay bales and sawhorses. As for the guests, set up picnic-style seating with checkered, gingham or eyelet linens.

Galvanized washtubs look gorgeous filled with ice and drinks in vintage-style bottles (think: Stewart's Sodas — and ask your local suppliers about their best-tasting microbrews.) Don't forget the oversized jars filled with fresh iced tea and cold apple cider.

Treat your guests to home-cooked soul food like pot roast and pulled pork, fritters and cornbread, apple cider donuts and fruit pies.

As for cake, try any of the Autumn-style flavors on for size (spice or carrot, apple or pumpkin ...). Decorate with your favorite fresh flowers, making sure they're unsprayed and organic.

Tips & Cautions

  • Want some drama when it's time to walk back down the aisle as husband and wife? Have your best men create an arch of pitchforks!
  • Don't forget: really remote locales can be tough for older guests to access. They're also challenging for caterers and vendors who need electricity.

Okayy… So me and my fiance both are looking for a few money saving ideas… Our theme is western and our main colors are yellow and white… I’ve seen a lot of favors I like but they all seem way to expensive for our budget… Also we have no idea how to decorate a barn and a backyard to suite a wedding and to accomodate 150+ people… Does anyone have any ideas for us? :?

  3. Jessica

Hi, Im having my wedding at The flower farm inn! flowerfarminn.com/events/html Its an outdoor ceremony and inside recepton. Any ideas? Would the rustic country theme not go because the barn has been renovated and looks more elegant now but still has that sounthern charm. Here is a pic of the ceremony and reception.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Jessica,
You are in luck, you can have pretty much any color you like. Do you have any particular colors you are lean to? Are you wanting a theme? If so, what style do you like the most? Also when is your wedding? You could pick something according to season for theme and decor. Look forward to hearing from you!! :D

      • Jessica

Our date is June 23, Im leaning towards lavender and white, and not sure yet on the theme, but I do like the rustic country theme. Like with Mason jars and such.

  4. Kristen

    Hi
I do not have a theme for my June wedding yet but I have a ton a 4oz mason jars that I would like to use as my wedding favors any suggestions and if you can help me with a theme that would be quite helpful my fiance loves cars and photography and me I really dont have a hobby except scrapbooking LOL please help!!!

    • Kayla

If you have the lid, if not use a fabric and tie off with a bow! Fill the jars with yours and your soon to be husbands favorite cookie recipe. Its cheap, fun and heart filled! Make little tags with yalls lastname mono gram on it and the ingredients and directions! Try changed the name to something that will always remind them of you two!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Kristen,
Do you have your venue, if so I can look for a theme and color scheme from there, while incorporating your tastes. It also depends on the style of wedding your after. Do you want it alot rustic or a little? The mason jars could be used to put lil’ candies in for your favors( a candy you both love) or mixed nuts even candied pecans.Little jams can be used or even honey, seasonings, or spices. You could have a grooms cake with a car theme. With the centerpieces have photographs that he takes in frames, or have a table of family wedding photos( to stand in for “photography”), on the table pull in your scrapbooking skills and have names and little scrapbooking touches for each pic. have swatches of fabric cut with pinking shears to put under ring for a decorative touch on the jarfavors, have a guestbook with pics and things like a scarpbook except with a place for guests to sign. On your invite, you coudl easily let him take a photograph and put it on them then add wedding” scrapbooking” things like beads, ribbon, etc. If you dont want to go this route is there something you both love together, even a place, season,or a color you both love. A theme can be many things or you can choose no theme. They are optional.

      • Kristen

Thank You so much for all the ideas! I love the centerpiece idea with the car pics he has a lot! and then tie that in with my scrapbooking mmm I think I got it I will let u know what I decide thanks so much!!!

  5. Luana

I need HELPPP! I’m having a wedding in Jan 2012 and am planning a country themed wedding. Colors are Pink and Grey and theme is butterflies and horseshoes. The venue is outdoors at a rodeo arena and will probably have roughly 175 guests. I can’t figure out what to do for favors and centerpieces and I’m just lost :( any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Luana,
      Look at this…

Something like this centerpiece( they used horseshoe stands and just surrounded with flowers) with butterflies from craft store sitting on flowers and/or horseshoes would be perfect for a rodeo arena setting. For favors nothing suits a country theme wedding like edible favors. Think jams, jellies, honey, syrups, old fashioned penny candy etc.

( I love this one too, just have clear mason jars with pink florals and add artificial butterflies from a craft store on the centerpieces like they just landed there as a guest to join in the celebration.

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Luana,
Part one of the above wedding…

For example: the simple florals in mason jars with the butterflies like this…..
( I am thinking the real wedding tablescape in your colors would probably be the easiest to do, unless you know where horseshoes stands are or someone who can put them together for you.)

        • Luana

I like the idea of flowers in a mason jar. I think what I’ll do is put some baby’s breath in a empty mason jar and put some pink butterflies on them as if they just landed there as you said.. Maybe I’ll add some jams/jellies in separate jars as well. But *uh-oh! – if I do that how will I work the horseshoes into that?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Luana,
You could go to a craft store and buy horseshoe charms. I have seen the mini ones made out of metal in both gold and silver. Tie a horseshoe around each jar neck. You could pull in a horsehoe motif on your invites, programs, menus, etc. Just have a clipart of a horseshoe surrounded with flowers and butterflies. If you want to add more horseshoes to decor and plan to have table seating numbers. Consider adding the name tag and table number to each horseshoe. They also have horseshoes a bride can carry in her bouquet ( google bridal horseshoe). In the one wedding you could even have a horseshoe at each place setting. Have the ringbearer carry a horseshoe pillow made of burlap. Consider horseshoes on your wedding cake( google image for ideas) You could even have outdoor games for guests including horseshoes. If you google image horseshoe wedding cake toppers they have tons of cute stuff. Other ideas for favors are cocoa or coffee mixes.

I had to show you this, it doesnt have your theme but it sure has amazing decor…

( look at the horseshoe on the garland, that is great!) Do you also have anywhere you can hang garland, you could attach horseshoes with butterflies too.

          How about this

    hi
im gettin married april 28 2012 and we want a country wedding colors are green and yellow we want to get married in or in front of a old barn/stable but cant find anyone that does that i aiken sc. we both want an outside weddin but if it rains whats a good way to let everyone know that its not outside it at the church without havein only half the geast showin cause they didnt know were to go do you have any ideas?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Tiffany,
      Some neat lil’ wording ideas…

It is perfectly appropriate to have a separate card with info or info on bottom of invite.
Example: In the event our joyous day is blessed with rain, our ceremony will be held at( location info)
If you do this with a separate card then add contact number for anyone unsure where to go. Even if it rains only a little.

  7. Keri

I’m getting married 9/10/11 and we are having a country themed wedding (Wanted Poster Invitations, Boots under my dress, etc), but we want a unique unity candle idea. We would love to do blowtorches or something similar, but we are getting married in church so that isn’t possible…Suggestions?

    • Lynne

My husband and I literally tied the knot. We got two pieces of rope (about a foot long each) and tied them together. We had our mothers tie a knot at one end as the “mother’s ceremony” to represent our families and then we tied them together ourselves to unite the 2 families. The color of the rope is the 2 colors we used. It was a pretty big hit at the wedding and now the knot has a very special place with our wedding pictures.

      • Chestina

I am getting married 8/27/11 (in 28 days) and we have been trying to come up with something different for our “Country” themed wedding. I like the idea of the rope. Did one mom tie a knot in the end of 1 rope & the other mom in the end of the other rope & then you guys tied the 2 together?

  8. brittney

i am going to be 19 whenever i get married, and we are wanting a country wedding should i have the guys and bridemaids wear cowboy boots with their dress??? and what are some great country colors

  9. What adorable ideas. I love that just married on the horse’s behinds. Too cute. I am getting so many ideas for my own hoot-nanny.

    Thanks al!

  10. janet myers

I make unique country love tokens which I am willing to sell at a great wholesale price.

  11. Jamie

Hey yall,My Fiancee and I are gettin married July 23,the wedding is goin to be held in a cattle sale barn! The colors are Pink and Camo.I am havin a hard time on deciding the decoration for the seats.Any help would be appreciated very much!!! :D

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Jamie,
I would actually spend more time on decor for the railings at front etc. If there is any walls or “rails” on the sides of the seat area, why not do a fresh greenery and/or wildflower( or your flower choice) and swag garlands all the way up, use camo ribbons. Find places to have lanterns, if allowed. I would be happy to take a look at the pic of the cattle sale barn and see what needs to be done. I think your idea is pretty neat.

      • I would suggest using straw bails decorated with pink and camo covers on top alternate camo ans pink or how abont pink camo love your idea im a wedding planner feel free to contact me.

    Hi
Im having a tractor wedding the beginning of June and Im running out of ideas for decor. Our colors are red and blue, the tractors are Case IH and New Holland. I am putting little tractors on each table and the center pieces are vase filled with layers of grain and the little gifts are chocolate tractors but thats as far as I can get. I dont know how to decorate the ceromony or the reception anymore for a farm/ tractor theme and when I look online all it shows it John Deere themes.

    • Sandy

You should think about pansies. You can grow them in pots or pot them for the wedding. They can be bought by the flats at Home Depo or Lowes. Check out April 2011 GoodHousekeeping ,page 159 . We are using tea lights and silk blumes tied on the outside and hanging them from low branches at my sons outdoor wedding in Sep. Good luck!

  15. Breanne

    Hi guys,

We are eloping on May 18, 2011 but we plan on having a reception in June. As of right now we were thinking about having the theme of country (maybe farm?) because I grew up in the country and because he is a city boy who likes rock, we’d like to throw that into the mix to have a country/rock themed party. Does anybody have some great ideas for us (preferably low budget)? We don’t really want the traditional stuff like dancing, flower throwing, cutting the cake…etc and we also don’t like to be the center of attention (which makes this planning difficult). We thought maybe instead of looking at this party as a wedding reception (since we’re not too excited about it but promised our parents we’d have one), we’d just like to have a fun party instead. Any other themes or suggestions are welcomed due our picky-ness. Any thoughts or ideas on anything we could do would be great.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Breanne,
What colors were you wanting to use? Do you have your venue yet? If so, do you have a link/pic? I would take a rustic setting and put hip looking florals and decor in there., if your ging big reception. I love when that is done it looks amazing! If it were me though, I would consider having a super casual BBQ or picnic, it would keep everything lowkey, yet celebrate the marriage. Since there wont be dancing, a country-rock music type reception wouldnt really compliment. Especially since yur low-key, that is all I would plan. Find a venue, simple linens, loads of candles, maybe even string up some lights or paper lanterns and for centerpieces why not use fresh clipped greenery. Give favors of your fave rock and country songs as favors. That could pull in your tastes. Then have awesome food and beverages. Simple, laid back, is what I would do-which is always fun! Let me know further details and I can start pulling some ideas. Thanks!

      • Breanne

Thanks Stacey! At first we really liked the idea of having a low key BBQ or picnic but the more we talked about it, the more my fiance started to feel like we were planning a birthday party so he said he’d prefer to go and find a venue. So after thinking for a day or two I thought of having our reception at a horse arena/stable/barn….etc, something with that great country feel, now we are both in love with this idea. I did find one place, that we’d love to have our reception at, we’re meeting with the owners next week to see if it would all work out. The website has some pictures, but I don’t know if they really help knowing that we haven’t been out there to see exactly where our reception would be located at. The website is: http://www.rustybarranch.com This location would be perfect knowing that its located not only in the small town I grew up in but also located down the same street I grew up in!! :)
Regarding color, we haven’t gotten that far, would color choices even work with where we’d like to have our reception? If so, my fav. color is pink (then green then blue) and my fiance’s fav. color is black (then blue then green). FYI if you say we should take our fav. colors of blue and green, this would be the Seattle Seahawks football team colors (and we live right by Seattle) so that would be to weird lol!
I know that playing rock/country music in the background doesn’t fully make sense knowing that we’re not wanting a dance floor BUT we also don’t want any awkward silence so we thought music in the background would help!?!?
Regarding food and drinks: We have to find somewhere that caters because we don’t want to be stuck trying to cook and entertain…any thoughts on a good food selection? I think I read this idea on this website, but my fiance really liked the idea of having a nacho cheese fountain (instead of chocolate), but not sure how that would fit in. With drinks, we do not want to have alcohol at our reception. My family does not get along with each other and both of our families have alcoholics so we just think it would be simpler and not as stressful to have no alcohol.
We’ve also decided that some traditional things wouldn’t be horrible, but maybe we can twist them up a little bit? Because we both love playing classic board games so much, we thought of having boardgames (simple ones of course) as our centerpieces and then our wedding cake can look just like the game of life (google image “game of life cakes”), we could fill the cake with some of our own memories. I also read somewhere (maybe here?) that instead of doing a dollar dance, you could do a dollar pie throwing thing…this would be really funny and laid back (and wouldn’t require dancing). So we are more open to traditional things now just not 100% .
I also saw somebody mention doing hay-bails for decorations, that would fit in great for the horse arena….any thoughts on how to make it more rock? Posters and stuff in the inside??
(oh and I should point out that I can’t really rely on my family too much so everything that we do, really will be done by just us).
        Thanks for all your help!!

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Breanne,
The location is beautiful. I understand your concerns on the team colors. lol It sounds like you are looking for a really fun wedding with some cool ideas. You are right abut the music in the background, it could be awkward, unless there was tons of activities going on.
You could easily take the basic black and pair it with ink blue or green for a great more hip color scheme.
          * check out this ranch wedding ( it has the wildflower style florals in sleek more hip linens and vases, love the record centerpieces)

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Breanne,
All of your ideas are great. The only thing that concerns me is there is alot of different ideas and hard to pin down a specific theme. If it were me, I would pick some hot, hip colors. Look at the location and see what florals are in bloom and add that against balck dresses etc. the black dresses would be rewearable for the girls. have a game station and lawn games set up outside, maybe even some cool little carnival style boths, add fun carnival style food, it fits with the upbeat theme. For your cake have a cute little whimisical wedding cake maybe with a custom topper of you and and him in weddng attire playing a board game. Or have scrabble pieces spell out certain words etc. on cake. ( game of life cake very cute). And have a grooms cake in shape of a record. You coudl alternate vases of flowers on top of records then have board games on others. Or you could just have the board games sectioned off so people could really play.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Breanne,
Make sure you look at the entire wedding category at rock n roll bride. You can type in rustic wedding or farm wedding even ranch wedding.

offbeat bride website has some great ones too. But I figured the rock nroll bride website would inspire! ;)

    • Melody

Donny and Marie Osmond (brother/sister) recorded a song late in the 1970s, “I’m and little bit country/ and I’m a little bit rock ‘n roll.” That might boost your thoughts. May you allow God be a blessing in your marriage.

      • Sharon

My daughter is getting married June 4th. I understand this brides issues with the country/rock theme issue. That is what my daughter and her fiance wanted. It has been challenging for me to say the least. We are having it at our family ranch in Texas. Friends are coming from Houston to cook BBQ and crawfish and fixings. Here colors are kelly green, tangerine and fushia. The groom and groomsmen and bridesmaids are wearing chuck taylor tennis shoes while the bride and her father are wearing boots. For centerpieces we are using mason jars with gerber diasies, lilies and sunflowers. We are having a reception tent but the dance floor will be under three massive old oak trees with lights. There will be relatives there with young children and we are trying to think of something to have to entertain them. Any ideas?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Sharon,
For the kiddos, one wedding had a tv set up in a barn with movies and games, even had its own pizza making station. The couple hired some sitters to oversee the kids and make sure they had a great time( make sure they are kidfriendly/fun/creative) they can come up with some great ideas to make it super special for the kids. They even had pony rides for the kids. Instead of pizza, they coudl have a hot dog station or ice cream station. Build little forts out of haybales or a hayride.

    • Julie

Countryside + rock? First thing that springs to my mind is music festival :) Maybe you can steal a few decoration ideas from the Secret Garden http://uk.secretgardenparty.com/2011/sgp.php or The Big Chill http://www.bigchill.net/festival/media/photos/the-big-chill-2010/the-big-chill-2010.

Other than that, I’ve got the same issue of wanting an unconventional countryside wedding, so here are a few things I’ve found so far:
      - http://www.rocknrollbride.com/ – great blog for unconventional weddings :)
      - rural ‘Village Fete’ wedding pics http://ruffledblog.com/vintage-australian-wedding/
      - use wheelbarrows and old standalone bathtubs, either full of ice and beer bottles, or full of wild flowers/herbs and some decoration (little paper windmills, lanterns on a stick etc).

Hope that helps, let us know if you find great ideas to share! Julie

  16. Andrea D

Hey Ladies :) My future hubby-to-be and I are also getting married on 9.10.11 in KY for our country “back home” wedding. We are doing our ceremony at a Plantation home (bed and breakfast) and then holding our reception at a family members shop. What flowers and centerpieces do you think would look good?

  17. Andrea

    Hi all
I am getting married Oct 1st, 2011 my fiance and I want a country theme wedding with a outdoor cermony and indoor barn reception. Problem is I can’t find any available clean barns in Il. Does anyone have any ideas for barns to rent in Illinois?

    • Lisa

Hi Andrea we just found a site that is exactly what you are looking for, but we live in KC. I thought it would be fun to write you and compare our ideas I may learn something fun from you. We are also doing our wedding on Oct. 1st, 2011. I was just wondering what you were gonna do for centerpieces, and food, etc.

      • terrica

lisa! i live in kc too we are getting married in november and i was wondering what venue you were going to use. i have been looking everywhere. we want a country style wedding. centerpeices we are using short bunles of branches with opper wrapped candles hanging from them s well as colored crystals. not sure on the menu yet tho! you can email me at terrica_lorton@yahoo.com and we can share ideas if you want! congrats!

      • Andrea

        Hi Lisa
The center pieces are going to be old wooden boxes with sunflowers or daisys in the them with small pumpkins and apples. Unfortunatley I still have not found a barn in IL.

        • Lisa

I might have to use this idea! I am using black (borrowed) table cloths, on a rectangle table with a osanburg ( fabric between cheese cloth and burlap) as a runner, 2 wine bottles painted black with the chalk paint, and pumpkins on 10 table and mums on another 10 and maybe use your idea on rest!

    • Kasi

Walnut Grove Barn in Knoxville Illinois is a great place. May want to check it out.

  18. Lara

Hi! I am getting married September 10, 2011 in an old barn in an apple orchard, it is so beautiful! I am using apples as my theme and having homemade canned jam in 4oz ball jars as my favor. I am having a hard time finding rustic looking apple invitations! Any suggestions?? Thanks!!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Lara,
      * these are pretty great

If it were me I would consider DIY invites. Just take some brownish looking invite paper and use red wording with a apple clipart. Tie twine around invite with maybe a apple charm. Another thing you could do is get permission to take a photo and have it made into a wedding into a invite.
      * some ideas

    • Margaret Wickert

Look on (www.etsy.com) site. Lots of talented graphic artists that will work to customize an invitation. I know there are some ‘barn theme’ invitations already listed :D

    • Brittney

Look on zazzle.com. They have so many invitations.

  19. Sierra

Im getting married June 2012, that seems far away but im in college and I know it will sneak up out of no where. I’m having an outdoor country themed wedding. My colors are aqua blue and maroon. My fiance doesnt want to wear a tux, whats the best way to “dress” him and the groomsmen differently?? and anyone have experience riding off on horses…what kind of dress did you wear and how comfortable?? If anyone has any ideas feel free to share…

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Sierra,
Actually, since you are having a country wedding, you coudl go with jeans for the guys and have them in maroon or aqua shirts. Khakis would work too.
      * look at this real wedding, beautiful!!

Most brides just wear the dress that they love and is best for their body styles.
      * advice here
      * here is another alternative.

    • Mary Siepmann

Your groom could wear a western suit, western shirt in opposite color of groomsmen, cowboy hat & boots. Groomsmen wear western shirt the same color as the girls dresses, vest & black jeans with their cowboy hats & boots. For the bride a lacy western jacket over a shell (tank top), long black gaucho pants with matching lace overskirt that opens in the front, so you can ride off on your horse. Lace overskirt with flowing self train will drape over your horses back. Cowgirl hat to match your outfit or the color of the girls dresses. Lots of other ideas for western weddings too.

    • Brittney

      Hi Sierra,
Im actually getting married March 5 2011. We are also doing an outdoor country wedding. My fiance refused to wear a tux or kahkis for that matter. The guys are wearing nice jeans and brown boots, not cowboy boots. They are all wearing the long sleeve button up Columbia fishing shirts. Andrew, my fiance is wearing a bone color and the guys are wearing the orange. Our colors are pink, orange, and tan. My bridesmaids are actually wearing denim dresses. I know it sounds tacky but they have really cute ones online and for cheap. Good Luck!

    • Courtney

Me and my fiance are having a country wedding and instead of a tux im putting them in the dark blue wrangles their boot a white shirt and then a “western” sports coat!!

      Hope that helps

  20. Jady Rogers

Hey guys! I am looking for a place close to Hammond, Louisiana to have my reception! I want to have it in a barn or barn-like place. It’s going to be June 20, 2011. our colors are tiffany blue light brown and off white with yellow accents. Any advice on a place?

  21. Kirsten

    Hey Stacey,
Ive been on here before and youve always helped me, so i was wondering if you knew how much it would cost to have an outdoor wedding. Ive looked online and called people to see how much ity would cost but I just keep getting the run around. I know there are many factors that go into an outdoor wedding so I’ll list what I think we’ll need, if theres anything i leave out just tell me.
***were having 130 people out in the middle of a field. Its a very relaxed vintage country theme. we’ll need a tent, 130 chairs for the reception (going to have hay bales for ceremony) utensils, generators, tables, a port o john, and then all the other normal stuff that goes into a wedding.
    THANKS!!!

Dance floor rental, if you’re serving alcohol-perhaps a permit. I’d use more than one port-a-john, if one fills or breaks down . . . it won’t be pretty. Also, consider checking the area for pests . . . vermin to bee hives.

hey my husband and i just had our outdoor western wedding and did everything our selfs. we had about 60 people show up. we rented a 20×40 tent witch was $180 bucks, 70 chairs @ .75 cents each, 8-5foot round tables, 2-8foot long tables, 2-6foot long tables @ 7.50 each, 1-3foot round @ 5.00… we also rented 2 port-a-pottys @ $130 bucks, a 12×12 dance floor @ $130. so for the tent, dance floor, tables, chairs, and pottys was just under $600 bucks. we also prepared and cooked our own food (witch we now do catering for parties and weddings). i got on ebay and bought the plastic table covering by the rolls, and lots of other stuff too and i made our center pieces witch where lasso rope vases with silk flowers inside. all in all i think we spent about 1500 give or take for our outdoor wedding. i hope that this helps! if you have any questions feel free to ask me! here are some pictures of our wedding ideas too.

      good luck!!!

I am getting married next summer and we are both farmers and so are having a farm themed wedding. We are getting married in front of a big rustic barn with (hopefully) wheat growing around it, leave in a tractor, the whole bit! I am looking for a farm themed invitation possibly with a barn or wheat on it. And I am also looking for a cool favour to give the guests that represents the farm theme. Please help!

have some invitations . . . also consider taking a photo and using the kodak website, shutterfly, or snapfish to make your own custom inviations.
If you have a wheat theme . . . how about making little loaves of bread and wrapping them in cellophane and some ribbon?

    • ashley

I got koozies made… you could do your colors and put your names and date with a tractor on it?

Hi ladies! My fiance and i are getting married Oct. , 2011 on a covered bridge. Our wedding is rustic and casual. The colors are green and brown with hints of camo thrown in. And we’ll all have our boots on!

We want the ceremony to be intimate, under 100 people, and the reception to be a big party around 400+ guests. Very exciting!!

Any ideas you might have for anything, let me know! I’d love to hear them! Thanks!! :)

    • Ally

      hey Carrie,
what about using clear glass vase with a hand full of .22 shells or bullets at the bottom and then use some arrows cut in half (2 per vase) so the quill and the tip stick out like the “Flowers”. just an idea! best of luck!!!!

      • Amanda

I like thet idea !!! the .22 will look fantastic and be shiney yet with the hunting also maybe if your friends have some racks at home they could let you use as centerpices with come mose on the tips .

      • Margaret Wickert

Great idea………maybe mix in some feathers:)

    • Nancy B.

Duck decoys on tree branches or small pine trees with roots bundled in burlap or get some small camping lanterns and use them in place of candles

    • Sara

what about asking the guys – who im sure have a good collection of antles – to borrow them as deco. then in the center of each table arrange two or three antlers an place some simple candles throughout the antlers in varrying sizes mayby add some pretty duck or turky feather or ever place the arrangement of antlers/candles over small pelts squirls rabbit ect. flea markets are a good place to find these sort of things plus they are cheap if you bargin well! good luck

Not so much “hunting”, but I’m decorating for a outside Wyoming wedding. We gathered several (100) large pinecones, soaked them in water and pealed the “petals” off, to form a flower shape on canning jar lids. I centered inexpensive candeles in glass,(martha stewart from walmart) on each lid and used a hot glue gun to glue each petal. 3 levels, on the lid,at 3 different levels. they are beautiful!!! hope this helps! We are floating candles in a low glass bowl with river rocks on the bottom and surrounding them with the pinecone candles.
