Fresh Ideas for a Stylish Spring Wedding

A spring wedding brings a splash of excitement to what can be a long, slow trek toward summer.

And the season gives rise to all kinds of enthusiasms. Even the blackest thumbs among us starting paging through gourmet food magazines and seed catalogs, and dreaming of lemons and strawberries, rhubarb pies and asparagus.

So it's a sure thing your wedding guests will show up in a partying mood. Which means that all you need to do is plan the ceremony — and event — of your dreams, and the rest will follow. With that in mind, here's some tips on what's fresh for this spring and beyond.

Chic Colors, Piquant Patterns

Spring wedding colors break down into several camps. First, there's the "I just like it!" girly colors. You know, timeless choices like butter yellow, pink, lavender, pastel green. Pink brides take note: spring's probably the easiest time to get away with your favorite color.

Then there are the trendy colors. Chocolate brown is still strong, and makes a showing at plenty of spring weddings. But more common than a phalanx of chocolatey bridesmaids is taupe or mocha, which has that trendy zing but lightens things up. Popular complements? The usual suspects: hot or pale pink, orange, peach or coral, baby blues and minty greens.

City brides wanting an ultra-urban look need only turn to the newest colors of the season. Start with steel gray — often paired with a crisp white and a sophisticated honey-wheat, accented with amethyst.

As for patterns, this is where things get interesting. Florals with a telltale geometric spin are everywhere. Be a little tongue-in-chic and consider drawing on spring patterns and textures like gingham, Swiss dots, eyelet or for a cool Asian touch, cherry blossoms.

The Freshest Foods

Approach your cake and menu with a light touch. If ever there was a time for coconut frosting or fillings, this is it. Or fresh strawberries or lemon cream. Choose bright, lighthearted colors for your cake, and go all out on whimsical details like Swiss dots and fondant ribbons.

Sautéed fresh asparagus will brighten up plates. Think miniature quiche with fresh spinach and green onions, and tiny cream tarts as a decadent background to the season's fresh fruit. Champagne makes a great home base for beverages, but bring a splash of color to your drinks by serving Bellinis, Mimosas, or a masterpiece of your own, spruced up with fresh berries or mint. Anything tiny fits the tone perfectly (cupcake trees and petites fours are great favorites).

Botanical Beauties

Timeless choices for this season of renewal are delicate blooms like sweet peas, lilies of the valley, ranunculus, or lisianthus. Hyacinth, irises and daffodils have a vibrant Easter feel. A bouquet of cream tulips, or roses and subdued pastels or white, couldn't be more classic. As always, brides with a contemporary bent and a cream, pink or green palette are drawn to orchids — perfect for a stylish spring.

Vernal Couture

Don't head to the bridal store yet! Your options for spring weddings are more varied than the ads might lead you to believe.

Of course, you can stick with tradition. But if you're looking for alternatives, spring is a fine time to look into the gowns sold with destination weddings in mind, some of the new cotton gowns coming down the line, or if you're feeling really daring, totally delicious 50s and 60s-inspired gowns with bouffant skirts that scream for a birdcage veil.

As for the guys, the rage for all things brown means your beloved and his buddies are sure to find formalwear in anything from chocolate brown to the lightest of mochas. (Match the ties to your bridesmaids' sashes.) And if your wedding's near the water, or it just suits your fancy, a white linen suit might be just the thing.

Need great looks for the girls? Experiment with fabric (like lush dupioni silk dresses with contrasting sashes) or patterns (bridesmaids in tea-length gowns with a subtle, oversized floral pattern — fabulous!) Be fresh off the pages of the fashion mags, and adorn their gowns with puffy, organza roses at the waist or neckline. And of course, pick some sexy, strappy shoes to show off those spring legs!

Accessorize the Look

Organza neck scarves or pashminas couldn't be more romantic, and they're perfect for spring breezes. Also chic: paper or sandalwood fans, pastel parasols, delicate floral headpieces and hairpins.

Accessories

Juice Up the Joint

A tried-and-true place to start with decorations: bare branch arrangements (ultra-large for the floor, or smaller for tabletops) gussied up with springtime flowers. Silk would be practical; real, a memorable extravagance. Evocative choices for blooms include magnolias, cherry blossoms or plum blossoms. Leave plain, or gild the lily with gossamer fabric wraps or chandelier-style crystals.

And go heavy on the petals — bring them to your cake tables, candy buffet tables, guest tables. A blizzard of petals, not snowflakes, reminds your guests they've made it through the dark months.

Florists continue to innovate, bringing all kinds of non-floral pizzazz into table arrangements. Cool ideas we've seen for spring include fresh bunches of asparagus, tips painted in gold, woven in with more traditional blooms. And we love the rustic height of pussy willows. Some favorite centerpieces tuck in birds' nests.

Another simple way to pull everything together? Ribbon! Casual arrangements of Gerber daisies and mason jars look smashing when you wrap the jars in bright ones. Let ribbons flutter romantically from shepherd's hooks, programs, the ringbearer's pillow, the bridesmaids' sashes, even a maypole. A twist on ribbon: a mini "tie the knot" theme.

Other popular adornments and spring themes include butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers ... and more recently, frogs in the form of sleek silver placecards and whimsical bouquet picks.

Thank u..

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Jeanette,
The right colors for skintone is everything.
      * some tips

Actually a shade of periwinkle would be ideal since it is a universally flattering color. Setting an array of spring bouquets against it. Older bm may not can wear purples well though. Also pinks of course.
      * some real weddings
      * more ideas

    • Janet

I’m having a spring wedding and the brides maid is wearing clover green. I’m having various shades of pastel daisies and baskets for the reception.

  2. Jen

    Hello,
I am having a March 2010 wedding. My BM dress is watermelon from Davids Bridal she also bought black shoes go with (she is getting the dress shortned to tea length). What colors can I use with these? Do I have to use black because her shoes are black?? I am getting married outside on the inner-coastal with palm trees. My reception is a blank room. all white walls. Help

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Jen,
Since the room is neutral, coudl I get some colors you like and see what I can find. Also are you wanting a theme?

      • Jen

I would love a theme. I just can’t find the right theme for March and watermelon. I was going with watermelon and very light orange with green. However im worried about the BM and MH black shoes.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Jen,
Since you are worried about the black shoes, it might be easier to suggest different shoes. Because balck shoes can make it look super classy.
          * but if you used something like this bouquet it isnt gonna matter, it would look stunning.

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

Jen, I made you a couple boards. At least you can see if you like the colors and black shoes. I think it looks nice.

        • Jen

They are beautiful. That is exactly what I had in mind to begin with. However the afer ordering the dresses the pink is more like a fushia or azalea. Would that go whith the colors on the board? Darker pink dresses with lighter pink in bouqet and decorations?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Jen,
Absolutely!! The only thing I would do is add some deeper pinks or fuschia, like in the boards. You could have varied pink shades ( light to dark)similar to the bouquets, or find roses that have lighter outer petals and have a deeper pink center. Or fuschia.

        • Jen

sounds beautiful. How about a theme?

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          jen,
I would just have a island vibe. You coudl add cylinder candles to all of this with sand in the bottom and floating candle or stick candles in sand. add palm leaves to your decor. Just make it like a vacation for everyone! would be fun!!

  3. Tiffany

Hello, I am getting married May 21, 2011. Our colors and 2 blues and lime green. We have alot already planned and picked out. We are going with a spring garden theme with galvanized pales for the centerpieces filled with flowers. The only thing now is trying to pick the dresses; for myself and my 3 bridesmaids. We are all on the plus-size and dont know what will look best for myself and the 3 of them. Any suggestions would be great!

    • stacey@favor ideas

      Tiffany,
The easiest thing to do here, since you all have different body types, is separates. Davids Bridal has mix and match for each body type. If you are using navy blue I highly suggest it cause it has the effects of black and is elegant, very flattering, and a universal color. pair lime green bouquets against it for lots of pop.
      * website
Alines are a great choice and really flatter. If you could post a pic of each of you I could see what could work for your body type.

  4. Meaghan

I am planning a spring wedding for 2012. I am having a hard time with my colors. I am having my wedding inside, I live in Maine so hard to do anything outside.

  5. Issa

Hi my name is Issa and i am getting married May 28th 2011. We are having an outdoor afternoon wedding. My Fiance likes lemon, lime and orange. Could i add hot pink and purple to the mix. I have 5 BM could each of them wear one of the colours and the GM match?

Any suggestions on the type of bm dresses would be appreciated. Everyone has dark brown complextion ( we are caribbean)

What about bouquets, I have no idea what to use for myself and the BM.

What colour suits should the groom and his attendants wear.

What colour should the groom wear?

    Please help this caribbean bride.

    Thanks so much

  6. Jodi

Ok, I think I have reached the end of the internet when it comes to bm dress and wedding color choices. I need some assistance…something specific. My wedding is March 26, 2011 outside in the evening. I have never been married before, am 27 and a lawyer. Thus, I am looking for spring, unique, but mature and elegant. Originally I liked purple, magenta, blue, etc…but this is starting too fade in interest. I have to have colored flowers rather than just white or green because my case is all white and they are my punch of color. But now I am inspired by this picture with these bridesmaids…my girls can’t pull off that silvery color..but maybe those flowers with my maids in fushia?

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Jodi,
I really love the bm dresses with the color of bouquets. Stunning. With evening weddings it is best to avoid any colors( unless using the proper lighting) that won’t show up or that fade into the background in a evening wedding.

      * here is the best colors for bm skintones.
      * colors article that would help narrow choices.

Another place to look for inspiration is your venue location. If it is outdoors look to the florals that are blooming during that time of the year. You will want to find “complimenting” colors to the location. Is the wedding reception also outdoors? Another idea is to look at your favorite color as well as the grooms favorite color. Don’t forget the gorgeous look of platinum with fuschia.
      * you will love this site!

      • Jodi

Actually I didn’t want the color of those dresses. I was thinking about something like this…I have photoshopped the bouquet on the color of dress. I have three blonde bridesmaids and 1 brunette. Opinons?

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Jodi,
That is beautiful. Loads of candlelight would be perfect for these colors!! It has the appeal you were after.

  7. KW

I am getting married in March 2012. We are a dual military couple and will both be deployed until September 2011 ish… So I’m trying to get some stuff out of the way now. I have the venue picked out the ceremony and reception will be at the same place. http://www.boojumtree.com in Phoenix AZ. It’s going to be in the evening since Phoenix can be hot even in March. My question is what colors would compliment the venue? I really like green, orange, red, and yellow but I’m afraid of blending in with the background. Thanks!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Kw,
Beautiful venue. I do like the idea of yellow. I think to many of the darker colors would only blend in. But the key is to find something that works with the existing setting AND the natural landscape. The pic of the champagne dresses with red bouquets really caught my eye. I thought the combo was beautiful in the setting. Then carry over simple champagne linens with red centerpieces. Another color that you may not like?!? iS going with all champagne. It would stand out since the setting is so lush it has a darker look to it. Your going in the right direction with sticking with spanish/italian colors( since they are alot alike).

  8. SusieQ

Hi. We will be getting married in April 2011 at a winery. The ceremony and the reception will be at one location. We are having a hard time deciding on wedding colors. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. Susan

  9. hazel

hi,i’m having my wedding on july 2010,i like to have Green, yellow and lavender on my wedding, but i dont know how can i corporate or mix those colors on my wedding, please help me,Im having a backyard reception. Please help me any idea for the reception????

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Hazel,
      * I love this floral arrangement, using the greenery as the “green” in the palette would be amazing. You could have lavender or white linens. I love green in an outdoor setting, gorgeous! White linens would look amazing here too. Pale yellow as accents in the florals.

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Hazel,
What was the main color you wanted to use? Were you renting table linens and what color were you leaning too?

  10. Hi…I am having a 8pm wedding at a great little park…But not a play ground and picnic tables kind of park…It has these great pillars and a old itilain gazebo with great long walway leading up too it…Please send next post for picks…I really did want pink and black March 19,2011 is the day…But of course Mom thinks thats not springy…So what do u think about wisteria and white for a night wedding?? Too light? I did think lilac but then wisteria is darker which i thought was great for a 8pm wedding?? We are having a small wedding close friends and family. No more than 30 people…im so excited! Thanks!! Brooke

  11. gracie

Hi, I’m having a spring wedding, (march 19, 2011) and need help with choosing colors, can someone help me? I’m trying to keep away from pink.

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      gracie,
Could you tell me some colors you love. Also a pic or link to the venue can help with a color scheme. Talk to ya soon!

  12. L.G

hi getting married in april and want bridesmaides 2 hold candles, any ideas on candles and candle holders so the flame wont go out????

    • stacey

      L.G.,
I recommend lanterns. When I got married my bm carried hurricane candle lamps, with the etched globe/brass base with the little thumb holder. Kinda looked like a genie oil lamp. They were beautiful. I bought them in 1988 at Hallmark and they doubled as part of the bm gifts. They still blew out even though they were protected from air. I have seen lightweight brass stemware holders with votives etc. but nothing beats a beautiful lantern to keep the candles lit. You could even have lanterns on your table centepieces. Perfect for Spring.

  13. Johanna

So I am getting married in April 2010 and I have no idea what type of theme I want. I kind of like the idea of having maybe green and lavendar as my colors. I am having the wedding ceremony and reception at our church since it will be free any help with ideas :?

  14. K

so here is my wonderful dilemma. i got engaged in Jan, was planning on having a wedding in March.. but plans changed. we were going to just elope… so i didnt need to make any plans at that point.. now we are keeping the family happy and having a wedding again.. one prob though… the wedding will be in less than three months.. (no the date is not set yet) .. how do you plan a wedding so quickly… luckily our church has given us the church and hall for free so thats one less worry.. but now.. theme… and colours.. well since it is spring i could go spring theme.. but… well initially i was going to have a lily theme… i think lilies are just stunning.. colours has been another headache for me though… i wanted purple, gold and ivory/cream but a friend who beat us down the aisle decided to take the purple so it changed to emerald green, gold and ivory/cream but then she added the green to her colours as well… my mother in law is insisting i must have emerald green peach and yellow.. needlesstosay i am not keen on this… i am in a pretty pickle and i know i am not giving you lots to work with.. HELP

      K,
first here are some quick links to plan a 3 month wedding…
      *google results
*real wedding, i thought this was so simply pretty when i saw it
*you will love the plans here

okay, this wedding is stunning in a simple elegant way. i was just blown away. it was planned in 10 weeks….
*go to portfolio and click on hartford wedding

i would either go with bouquets of wild flowers or mixed garden flowers, or to keep things simple pick one type of flower and use throughout like at wedding above. i love the black and green it is classy without even having to put thought into making it appear that way. that is just something classic colors like navy and black have, paired with green and its a winner. you know it will be elegant just cause of the color.
another idea is an all white, ivory, or champagne wedding. green and white is awsome too….
*be sure to check out all parts to this wedding

what are you and your fh’s fave colors and venue colors are important, so if i know those i can help with complimenting shades. cant wait to help!

      • K

        Hi Stacey,
thanks so much for all the links… i have just browsed quickly through them… will look through them more at length as soon as i get a chance…

my favourite colour is yellow, and fh’s colour is blue… but that doesnt really go for spring here in sunny SA..thats more summery i would say…

but perhaps this would make matters easier.. i was considering maybe using light pink, dusty pink, burgundy and brown as wedding colours… fh wants black instead of brown, which though i am sure is more modern i feel might be a little harsh… perhaps you can convince me otherwise… or give me some more ideas… and my initial theme with the green / purple was going to be “magical / nature” in other words i was going to try string up paper lanterns / fairy lights everywhere and give everything a ethereal magical feel.. floating candles in glass bowls of water as table centerpieces… etc… if i go with the pink burgundy theme i was thinking along the lines of a cherry blossom theme.. could still use lanterns and floating candles it will still give it a sort of magical romantic atmostphere… but flowerwise i have been told that cherry blossoms dont last long… do you think i should consider making paper flowers.. would be easy to cut a few bare branches and stick paper flowers to them… of course i dont want it to look cheap or gaudy… what would your opinion be on this matter? i think i will still have a fresh flower bouquet for me and the bridesmaids… a certain flower in the different shades of pink and burgundy…

the venue colours… in the church itself it has green and burgundy carpeting, with burgundy stained wood balustrades, skirtings, doors etc, the walls are a creamy yellow and the curtains are all burgundy… the hall is basically cream walled simple and bare so i will have to find ways to decorate that dramatically..

well thats all i have for you now.. cant wait to hear from you again… thank you so so much for everything.. kat

        • stacey

          K,
i am thinking something like this link would be gorgeous!

          *feteny

what you can do is buy cylinder vases( from saveoncrafts.com) and put lightweight branches and in between these vases have small glass bowls of floating pink flowers or candles. white linens and black napkins.

          *another wedding reception
*check out the last reception, could do in black and white

        • stacey

          K,
this real wedding is in 2 words….absolutely GORGEOUS!
          *style me pretty

to add more black to this wedding, think black bm dresses and black embroidered runners, look for something with pinks intermixed, black napkins with pink crystal or wooden napkin rings.

        • stacey

          K,
board i made for you incorporating the black.

        • K

          Stacey,
i must be driving you mad already, ha ha, so sorry.

i absolutely adore the lanterns.. GORGEOUS!!! would love something like that. but i know that i will have to think carefully… if i do the branches and candles on tables… will it be too much with the lanterns suspended from the roof? i loved the branches with the fairy lights through them on the dance floor on the one link.. sigh.. so many options.. ha ha i must be a typical bride.. cant make up her mind…

i would like the black to be subtle.. reason been… fh and his fam are rather dark in complexion… and me well i am rather fair… we really are like a black and white chess game.. ha ha ha.. in fact i considered that as a theme once… but fh was not too impressed :P … ha ha

there is so much to consider with last minute weddings..

i love the board you made… just want to be able to point a finger and go.. i want that.. i want that.. ooo and that.. and bam its there… if only it was soooo easy…

Stacey thank you so much for everything.. i really truly appreciate it…

        • stacey

          K,
why not have lanterns or paper lanterns from ceiling and get simple grapevine and trail down the tables, then secure votives among the vine. keep it simple but with the woodsy ethereal look your after. plus grapevine at a craft store is not very expensive.

          heh check this out…
*one of the most simple and gorgeous weddings ever!!
girls in olive and guys in khaki and white then bring in your pinks etc. in flowers like just tinges of pink among more green bouquets. you could have the guys in khaki and white suits. for the bouquet just choose green orchids that have that tinge of color in center and then add very small pink flowers. i was strongly consider axing the black in favor of khaki. it will give you more of the look you are after. i am gonna make you a quick board to show what i think would look awesome and keep it streamlined. it will be sorta like the real wedding i posted.

        • stacey

          K,
omg! i just found a pic, now it is in red roses but think about using your colored roses from bouquet pic( with a very short stem like shown in my floating flower link) mixed with tealights in long, low glass containers or just get bowls and have the roses again with short stems and surround with the votives. but personally i love this look with the floating candles.
          *gorgeous!!!

i hope you like it. it would be super simple. you could even trail grapevine around it down the length of the tables, round tables? just elegantly drape around it. this would give that enchanted forest look. i would even go as far as tinting the water a very pale pale blue like water in a enchanted waterfall/pool. then you can hang fairy lights and paper lanterns overhead without it being to much. if there are any ficus trees in the building wrap those with lights too. i think the bm would look fab in dusty rose or a mauve rose shade too.
          *mauve dress
          *or this gorgeous color!!
          *another dress

also dont overlook champagne or grey dresses for the bm. you can do alot with a neutral background palette bringing in the bouquet colors above. actually champagne, with dusty roses etc. would look amazing. and the floating flower idea/grapevine. wow!!!! let me know what ya think!!
charcoal grey for the guys would work well too. gray and dusty rose or lilac etc. always look great together!!
          *ideas
          *more ideas
          *really really nice

        • K

          Hi Stace,
          thanks so much for everything..
i’m loving the grey colours with the pinks… definately can work.. and the floating flowers and roses.. absolutely gorgeous…i love them!!

plain and simple is going to be my best option for this speedy wedding… it will mean less stress, less mess… l

Hi i am having my wedding in spring..and i want my color to be yellow…and i need help with a theme…i live in texas…and i was wondering if i need a t theme? and wat centerpieces to use? should i use yellow or light purple for my spring wedding? :D

  16. Emily

Hello, my wedding is June 12, 2010 and my colors are blue and purple. Purple is my favorite color so I would like for my flowers to be a mix of the two colors but mostly purple. My girls are going to be in bright blue sundress and I’m not sure what to do with their flowers. I’m worried that blue flowers won’t look right next to their blue dresses, but I don’t want their flowers to have as much purple as mine. What should I do? I feel like I’m making this too hard for myself, but it’s what I want.

    • stacey

      emily,
white would be nice, since white will be a part of your color scheme anyway. then tie their bouquets with a matching ribbon. or a nice blue and purple combo ribbon. another thing you could do is have white flowers and place blue flowers on the outer edges, then tie with a ribbon.

  17. Stormee

Hey… I am having my wedding in October of this year. I want my colors to be pink and white but October colors (orange and brown) are totally different. Would it be weird to have a spring themed wedding in October. Opinions please… Thanks alot :)

    • stacey

      stormee,
have you thought about pink, orange, brown, and white? this would work out perfect!! but i wouldnt want it to clash with your venue. if you let me know more details, would love to help!!

  18. priscilla

I am getting married in Sept in Africa so it is summer. want an informal quirky affair. no wedding party. Having reception and ceremony outside with beautiful views of african bush – reception in marquee. Have NOTHING finalised.

At moment am thinking champagne coloured dress and decor in burnt orange and hessian colours with maybe cream /champagne as base (tablecloths chair covers etc) . with porcupine quill or guinea fowl feather accents. Flowers arrangements will probably not be on tables but in large rusted metal urn type containers with stralitzia (bird of paradise) and twig / feather accents. like teh idea of actual hessian fabric but dont know iftaht will be too rustic

Any suggestions additonal ideas would be appreciated re decor / favours. was thinking about gold fish bowls on tables with white pebbles and a couple of orange gold fish as centrepiece but is not really african bush? I dunno am overwhelmed

    • stacey

      priscilla,
omg! that sounds wonderful!! i dont think it will be to rustic. especially against elegant champagne. as far as the goldfish, i know they are popular, but i have known some brides that had problems with some goldfish and they didnt make it. they said it didnt make a great centerpiece because they may not make it DURING guests eating. since you are using feathers, why not have small vases of gorgeous feathers for centerpieces? i think that would be so uniquely beautiful or have bowls of fruit.

  19. Andrea

I am getting married in May of 2010. My colors are dreamsicle and wisteria. I am having a hard time thinking of flowers and favors. My favorite flowers are tigerlilies but what can I do to represent the purple? And what about centerpieces and favors? I have absolutely no ideas. Help? ;)

    • stacey

      andrea,
do you have a theme and what does your venue look like? i would love to see the colors before i match flowers and colors. also waht color is your bridal party wearing? i am thinking how beautiful it would be to put them in the a soft shade like lavender, periwinkle or lilac. you will find alot of dresses in these color names that look just like wisteria color. then have soft creamsicle, white and wisteria with the lighter purple in the bouquets. i found a cake with the idea i have just change the deep pink for a lilac or lavender roses. like in bouquet. have the reception in white linens with a mix of the colors in simple centerpieces. not overdone just a spring garden style.

      • stacey

andrea, now for your bouquet. i am thinking this with the lavender roses, isnt it one of the most beautiful and unique bouquets ever!! i am in LOVE with this bouquet!!! it looks like it got fresh cut straight from a garden!!

    • Crystal

      Purple vases?

    Hello!
My wedding is on 23 May 2009.My wedding dress is quite simple cream-ivory colour with (i will attach the model).I wanted for theme white-cream-pink or punch and purple…The party planner suggest for our budget white with purple ,because is not a night wedding..but i don’t no if it’s ok with my dress ,and also our wedding invitation’s are white with champagne…and inside with purple writing.I’d like romantic ,pritty and happy ,also elegant spring wedding with roses and lillis and also candles and butterflies. What do you suggest for wedding theme colours, wedding and bride flower…and groom suit(he has blond hair and blue eyes). Please help me also with flower girls dresses,i will have 2 little girls and 3 grown up friends of mine.

PS ………..and i forgot to ask if fordecoration and theme i can use white/ivory-purple-silver ?

    Thank you

betty, that dress is gorgeous!! and purple will go, it is actually been considered more romantic than pink. its so romantic!! have the simple black suits or tuxes, this will be the best compliment for a romantic theme. i wouldnt add color vests etc. only a color bout. you can have black and off white if you prefer(i think champagne would look nice, even against your dress, if you want color vest) so yes go with the purple. it is a fab color!! i dont think i would add the pink, if it means alot to you have it in touches here and there, like on the cake or in your bouquet.

*Jim Hjelm Occasions Bridesmaid ( this is the link that has gorgeous backgrounds, so romantic, this would work if you wanted pink as a main color) check them all out ( each bridesmaid dress category)

( i do love the idea having the flower girls in champagne with purple or black sashes.( i just think the black will make it look sooo romantic) and the bm put them in either black, champagne or purple. i prefer purple( a soft lighter shade) it will compliment the darker purple flowers. you could even consider champagne linens in the reception. now go to theknot.com ( you may have to sign up but i promise it will be worth it, its free) go to wedding photos then purple details. check out these weddings, i wish i could list them all!! i will post my faves though.

betty, let me know what you have decided. if you do want pink then just keep it in the florals and keep everything else the same. lots of candles and lots of roses!! smile!

    • stacey

erica10, do you have any fave colors? what color is your venue? what about a simple green and white wedding? they are gorgeous. pull in colors through food and have colored guest book etc. this is such a beautiful yet simple combo. if you want color think about adding a third color of yellow or coral. you could even go against the grain and choose a multi colored flower wedding and put girls in a shade of yellow, just choose mixed bouquets. here are some colors you can browse maybe something will pop out! the coral is just beautiful it could be dressed up or down! what a rare combo this is standout quality!!

Help, I am helping my cousin with her May 23rd wedding. She has chosen Champagne, Chocolate & Burnt Orange. the bride has a ivory/champagne dress the groom and bm, grooms men in a chocolate suite mh, bridesmaid in burnt orange. The only flowers she has are cali lilies. she has no theme and no budget for me to work with. I need help with a spring theme, decorations, and accessories.

    • stacey

sabrina hi!! this is gonna be amazing! i love these colors!! calla lillies are spectacular as well as tulips. themes are not a must. themes can make it easier but you can certainly plan without one. if you want a theme just use a simple It’s Spring!!. keep it simple and use what nature offers to give a spectacular setting. the links i provide will give make the wedding planning a breeze!! the key for spring is to keep it happy and with these colors it will be that! stick with a simple table setting white linens with glass vases of calla lilies, have bm carry white calla lilies with beautiful wide satin burnt orange or green ribbon. the greenery will stand out. bride can carry a mix of white and orange or just orange callas. simple calla boutonnieres. white for groom orange for gm. calla lilies can be expensive, so ask your florist some budget friendly alternatives if they are out of the bridal budget range. i cant say enough how beautiful it would be with inexpensive paper lanterns in spring green and white. have the cake in simple spring green and white for a break from the burnt orange. have simple silver accessories, this will make it stand out. have bm wear silver accessories, if their skintone works with it, otherwise… have gifts of beautiful jewery perfect for their attire in the metallic that does.

head here snippetandink.com and type in budget friendly weddings, it will show so many wonderful ideas! click older posts for even more.

    • stacey

      hi jessica,
actually you can have all of these. have bm and guys in navy blue. then have your florals in beautiful shades of pale yellow and dreamsicle orange. have simple white linens reception accented by navy blue napkins, silverware(for the silver), and the floral colors in centerpieces. for an added touch add a simple bloom at each placesetting, lay atop the napkin. hope this helps!! i think it will be gorgeous!

Having a March 6, ’10 wedding. What colors should I chose?! It isn’t quite Spring but Winter is over with. Where I’m from, it’s possible it can snow. HELP!

    • stacey

      megan, one word green! :D
from winter evergreens to the new greenery coming to life in spring, green. just beautiful. ive read many times that a green/white color scheme it is practically failproof. As in most of my posts i stand by wear again dresses, and this would be perfect for your wedding!! love the idea of nothing but greenery for centerpieces and arch, ribbons puddling to the floor for pew markers, add candlelight, consider letting your bm carry their fave single type flower in yours or their fave color. in a green and white wedding it will work and be beautiful, green goes with everything!! smile!!

then you select your bouquet carrying the amazing combo of their type flowers along with your fave flower. but if you use flowers in arch i would cut costs by choosing your fave flower with lots of greenery. and i wouldnt worry that your “caught between seasons”. i dont know your location but check with a florist to see what flowers are available. (if you dont like my bouquet idea) where i am from spring flowers are already available in march, tulips(which would work with this color scheme so well!), freesia, snapdragons, etc.

i cant stress enuf about using branches for decor. they look fantastic and fit a march wedding. set in vases with or without suspended candles are so pretty and budget friendly!! if you live where you could collect your own then they could be free!! google image wedding branches

      Megan,
We live in North Dakota so I know what you mean when you say you could have snow in March. You could always go with shades of purple, which is a good choice for any time of year. It would work great for the end of winter but also so perfect for Spring. It will be close to Easter and that is the most beautiful color for then. Add white and silver or something like that and it would be a perfect wedding. It would be so rich looking and with the right flowers could certainly be a beautiful Spring wedding. At that time of the year, eveyone is ready for Spring and will welcome a beautiful Spring wedding to raise their winter spirits.
