Month by Month: Wedding Themes and Colors for Every Season

Still at the start of your wedding planning process? Ever wish you had a guide to help narrow down the themes and colors that really suit the time of year you're holding your wedding?

Here we try to do just that. Keep in mind: a grandly-decorated venue is a blank slate you can transform into anything, any time. And some of these themes and colors are great for year-round use, though we didn't want to repeat them over and over (like Black & White or Fifth Avenue Aqua).

But if you're here for some great color combination or theme inspirations for January, June, or anything in between, read on!

March, April

If your climate cooperates, this is a wonderful time to celebrate spring's earliest bursts of color, flowers and delicate life forms: Lilies of Valley and Shasta daisies, daffodils and tulips, butterflies and dragonflies. Brides are instinctively drawn to pastels like lavender or yellow, whimsical and romantic pairings like red and pink, or combos with a modern bent like pink and lime green. A monochromatic look using all shades of pink is also totally spring (and stunning).

Some popular themes for spring? Cherry Blossom, Butterfly, and Irish or St. Patricks, to name a few.

Also, popular spring color combinations that double as themes include Aqua Blue (Fifth Avenue Style), and Pink & Green.

May, June, July

Summer brides sometimes complain that they can't find any summer themes, besides the usual beach or garden. Not to worry though: there's more here than you might expect. Summer also offers some of the most brightest, most energized palettes for brides who aren't afraid to play it modern. Contemporary picks include orange and fuchsia, green and hot pink, black against any kind of eye-popping-color, and chocolate brown and pink (or aqua).

Favorite themes for summer are numerous, but here are just a few: Garden, Daisy, Enchanted Forest and Victorian Garden, Beach, Starfish, Hawaiian Luau, Preppy/Nautical and Poolside. Don't forget Patriotic or Baseball, Fairytale or Asian Garden, Polka Dot or 50's Retro, and South of the Border, Rustic Country or Western.

Color Themes for the warm summer season include all kinds of Green, Cornflower Blue, Orange & Fuchsia, Black & White Toile with summery accents like yellow or pink, Aqua Blue (beach style), and the lighter purples, like orchid or Aubergine.

Summer

August, September, October

The colors alone bring this season near to the hearts of many brides who can't imagine tying the knot any other time of year. From russet to pumpkin orange and cinnamon to vanilla, the scents and famers' market decor of an outdoor Autumn wedding makes a setting like none other (not to mention the awesome photos!). Another plus: the grapes are ripe, and it's time to celebrate a brand-new season of wine.

Popular colors for this time of year include latte, mocha and chocolate brown, rust orange and burgundy, hunter green and gold. Nature-minded themes are all the rage right now, including New England Harvest, Harvest Modern and Halloween, "Perfect Pear" and Apple, Tuscan and Wine Theme, Herbal and Rustic Country. Chocolate Brown also amounts to a theme ... one that suits the season to a 'T'.

Fall

November

November's long been a sticking point for brides who want to stay close to nature, but aren't huge fans of the bright, brassy colors of autumn. We've try to address this dilemma with our new "Fields of Gold" page, which pays homage to the natural world and November's subtler palette of creams and golds. For more urban, indoor and delectably chic approach, seize on this time of year for a 1930's Retro / Art Deco Theme, with its November-friendly palette of gold, ivory, sepia and black, and its oh-so-apt nostalgic feel.

November

December, January, February

Friends and family are stuck inside, desperately hoping for a romantic diversion. Which is why this time of year's about making big, elegant gestures: going back in time, playing with lighting levels, indulging in romantic fabrics and heavy molding ... in short, transforming an ordinary interior into a portal to another world. Favorite colors for this time of year include ice blue, silver and white, gold, red and green, metallics paired with black, ivory on white and vice versa, and all the shimmery jewel tones.

Top themes that fit the season include those with a pale palette and opulent look, such as Calla, Parisian or Versailles, or those with a holiday feel, such as Christmas, Victorian Christmas, Winter Wonderland, or Diamond or Crystal Theme. Of course, Valentine's Day is a natural for those marrying in February, but the bold red and white palette works just as well for any other deep-winter setting.

Finally, maybe it's the Oscars, or just a need to cut loose after too many dark afternoons, but there's no better time of year to hold an Old Hollywood or even Vegas theme wedding.

As for color themes that suit this time of year? All-White, Regal Red, Black & White, and Royal Purple make good options.

Holiday

What'd We Miss?

We know this list is hardly exhaustive... there are plenty more themes and color schemes tailor-made for autumn or spring. Why not share some of your favorites below?

Tips & Cautions

  • Picking your colors and even a theme is twice as easy once you've found your venue.

    Hi,
I am planning a wedding for December 2011 and I am totally confused on what colors I should use. I do not want the traditional green and red christmas colors. I am thinking about deep red, chocolate brown, and ivory. My only problem is I am not a huge fan of red and I like brighter colors but I dont want anything to clash with the christmas season! Please help!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Meagan,
What about fuschia and brown? These would be perfect colors for a winter wedding!
      * pics

    • carmen

brown and hott pink are nice… even brown and like a turqois color.. not green or blue… try a little brown favor box from johanns and buy just one flower of the color you want.. put the flower on top and see if the color goes… brown can go with anything.. ;)

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Linda,
Can I get a link to your venue? So I can see what colors will pair with your venue and the horizon color.

  3. venessa

    Hi Stacey,

Im getting married on september 24,2011. My color i have chosen is oasis. My dress is ivory. I was wondering what other colors and flowers could i incorporate?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Venessa,
What are the colors in your venue that way I can be sure to pair it with the right accents also what colors do you lean too. Pinks, yellows, oranges, greens, etc. Loads of gorgeous colors pair with this. Another beauty is champagne or gold and then use an array of blush and ivory florals. :D

    HI STACEY!
i will be having my wedding in December 2011 (Christmas season), in the evening. btw im from the Philippines. what colors can u suggest the best motif for the reception and the entourage gowns? i am so confused. my fiance would like to have color red (for the red roses on our cake).
we originally choose the deep colors of red and purple as our motif. but thought it’s not a good combination for the reception and colors of the gown.

can u suggest other colors that would be better from the ones we’ve chosen? and also a theme. but we just want a classic Christmas theme.

i attached the our venue for reception. hope it could help.

    THANK YOU! AND GOD BLESS!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Summer,
Is the first pic a pic of the venue or attire your looking at? If your looking at classic christmas theme then I would definitely go with red. What about chocolate with red and white? it would go with the venue very well. Plus it is a classic colors scheme. Another one is using black white and red. Except have the bouquets and florals a mix of reds, deep purple, and a touch of fuschia. Another color is red with shades of pink like salmon pink. Or you could pull in a very classic red/gold/white. Which would be stunning. I could see nothing but red roses used with some branches and white candles. Completely gorgeous!

      • Stacey@FavorIdeas

        Summer,
My links didn’t go thru-let me try again.
        * brown and red
        * red and black

        • summer

hi stacey! thanks for the wonderful ideas!

btw, the pics i sent were referring to the venue. and i dont want to dominate the Red on our wedding.
the venue is quite brownish like an old house (windows made of capiz, wood flooring). the lights are yellowish that makes the place dim. we want to turn the venue into lively and modern wedding but kinda vintage-y and still has the Christmas theme.
          how about for
red/purple/gold (or champagne)? or red/gold (or champagne)/white (the ones u said)? chocolate color i think will make the venue darker and older. =)
the wedding is at night. so the colors of the gowns should be noticeably stunning.=)

i attached my wedding inspirations.=) haha if u noticed, i still want to incorporate the purple into our wedding. my fiance wants red and white and i want to see some purple.=)

          THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Summer,
For vintage plus Christmas theme. I would definitely go with the red and champagne. Purple is bad about fading into the background and looking grey unless you have proper lighting. Red and champagne would be the perfect compliments for the room. If you want the purple I would add it in various places like program printing or maybe red adn beaded napkin rings, bouquets, centerpieces, etc.

        • summer

          Hi stacey!
          how about the gowns?
          i want to have
Purple (very deep purple) for my Bridesmaids
Deep Red for my secondary sponsors
combination of red and purple for my Maid of honor
flower girls are also combination of red and purple
my mothers will also be wearing combination of red and purple.

for the reception, table linens will be all white with Red table runners.
red roses and purple for the flowers.
for the cards like program printing and menu cards as well as the place cards will be printed in purple.
          table napkins will be white.

cake is all white with red roses.

          our bouquets will be….
all the entourage will be in white roses
and mine will be all red roses (or with some hues of red and hues of purple)*
*contrasting the colors of our gowns to the flowers.

my bridal shoes will be red matching with my bouquet.

whatdya think??? everything will be appreciated! im very open for any suggestions, opinions and comments.
and thanks so much for the great ideas you gave.

my venue reception is kinda yellowish because of the lights (chandelier) so i wanted to have purple matching with red to make the venue more alive and modern.

          MANY THANKS!=)

I’m getting married 0ct.1,2011 and I’m choosing a fall theme.I want to use red, brown, orange and maybe yellow. For my bridesmaids dresses I was thinkin burgundy or brown but I’m leaning more towards brown since burgundy is too common, what can I have the groomsmen wear since I don’t really like the idea of brown vest and black tux?

  7. Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

My name is Stacey too spelled with the “e”! ;)

We were planning a 10/10/10 wedding date…with all of the beautiful fall colors….but suddenly we had to change the date. We are now looking at Jan 7, 2011 or Jan 14, 2011. Can you give me some ideas for January color schemes?

    Thanks Stacey

    • cathy

      Hi Stacey:

our wedding is october 15, 2011. you mentioned you had picked all beautiful fall colors for your 10-10-10 wedding now changed to january.
can you let me know some of the colors, ideas you were thinking of using for the fall wedding.
      thank you so much!!! :D

      • Stacey

        Hello,

Browns, creams, copper, mango, gold, bronze, a rusty orange, even a hint of a muted sage green thrown in there would be beautiful.

      • Cat

        Cathy,

I’m getting married 10/10/10 and we’re doing a traditional fall theme abundant with fall colors. I’m in the northeast so we decided it was a perfect choice to pattern after natural leaf colors. Our main color palette is burnt orange, chocolate brown, and ivory. I’m wearing an ivory gown, bms are in AA burnt orange/chocolate brown dresses, groom and gms are in chocolate brown tuxes. They’ll have orange ties and orange/ivory boutonnieres to contrast with their brown tuxes. My flowers will incorporate all the fall colors such as yellows, oranges, reds, green, and brown (with my bouquet including calla lilies). Good luck with your planning :)

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Hi Stacey!
There are loads of different color schemes that would work. Could you give me a link to your venue or a pic? I could see what would compliment!

  8. Stacey@Favor Ideas

    Dadlynn,
What other colors do you like? It can go with aqua or pink, even purple. Lots of great colors pair with lime. :D It depends on your venue colors as to what color would look best. Another color is simple chocolate and white. This color combo looks crisp.

  9. We just started planning our wedding and are thinking of getting married on a chartered yacht in April or May. I’ve just started looking into wedding colors/flowers. I really wanted to incorporate red roses into the wedding since that was my grandfather’s favorite flower. I think the red roses are just too bright next to a white wedding dress… especially for a spring wedding. What do you think? Attached is a link to some flowers I found, but I am up for suggestions!!

  10. stephanie

I am having a destination wedding in October 2011 in Aruba. I LOVE fall colors like oranges and reds, can i use those colors at the beach? im open to other colors but i love red and orange! HELP!

  11. Monique

Hi, I am getting married next year. Havne’t deceided on a date or month yet but I am having trouble deciding on a colour. My dres will remain white but for your wedding to mean something and look like somethign, it has to have colour. Please help…

  12. Edz

Hi Stacey! I want to have 3 color combo and we have chose our birthstone colors which are lime green (peridot) and white (diamond). we couldn’t think of the 3rd color, could you please help us.

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Edz,
It depends on your setting. Do you have a link or pic for your venue? Thanks!! Also black, white, peridot would be gorgeous!!

    • Cat

      Edz,

I just went to a friend’s wedding in July and her colors were emerald green, white, and black. She incorporated white/black damask pattern into nearly everything and threw in the emerald green for a touch of color. Everything turned out so beautiful, elegant, and vibrant! Good luck!

  13. miles

what color can be combined for yellow?

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

Miles, there are lots of great colors for yellow. What is your wedding date, style of wedding, and do you have a venue ( pic or link).

  14. Amber Meyer

I have a HUGE problem. We were going to get married in Spring, but then decided to move it until early Fall. I don’t like any of the normal fall colors, no brown, red, orange, etc. I don’t know what to do. Our original colors were light blue and silver, so I know those are out. I was thinking something dark purple or navy, but can’t think of another color. Someone please HELP!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Amber,
What is your venue or location? that way I can pick color suggestions that compliment.

  15. Jennifer

I am planning a wedding for October 2011. My fiance wants to have hay bales for seating. This will be a country type wedding but, I like the spring pastel colors? Is it possible to combine the two?

  16. Molly

    Stacey,

My fiance and I are would love an early December wedding, but I don’t want to be stuck with the traditional black, red, and white color scheme. Do you have any other suggestions?

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Molly,
There are alot of beautiful colors and just about anything will work-INCLUDING pale colors! :D What colors do you love? does he have a fave color? What does your venue look like- pic or link? Also do you want a winter theme or just a classic wedding?

      • Molly

I’d like just a classic theme instead of a winter theme. I honestly don’t have favorite colors that I’ve always wanted in my wedding. I think yellow or navy would be something I’d choose but feel that those are more of Spring colors instead of winter. What do you think? We don’t have a set venue yet so I don’t have any pics. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          Molly,
I love navy and yellow! These colors are always a great choice. Think icy yellows against navy.
          * some pics

  17. Barbara

Hi: I wrote you a while back about colors I was thinking about. They were black, white and apple gree. I have now purchased my dress which is an AA very simple ivory color, the girls will wear AA short black dresses with sweetheart neckline. Now the hard part I was thinking of green shoes for the BM and myself or should they be black. As far as reception the room is soft beige. I was thinking of black tableclothes with two runners one white with an apple green over the white and the chair covers black with white bows. I am at a point where I am thinking maybe I should use another color besides the green and am I using to much black. I see you have such wonderful suggestions please help. Thank you. Also the wedding is in February 26 in Tampa.

  18. Cha-cha

    hi stacey:
Wedding plan early January 2011, here at Philippines. We have a tropical weather. January is our coolest month and it will have scattered rains to dry by that time.
Ceremony will be held at a Catholic church 3pm and dinner to follow at a garden reception. my motif is pool color/aqua(one tone), please help me with other color accents that will jive for: flowers and its color to be use on my bouquet and also for the bride’s maids (available flowers here are roses, calla lily, malaysian mums, gerbera, carnation, million flowers..— supertitious beliefs: rose not good to use as its torny..lol), things and its color to add magic to the reception, what possible wedding giveaways (like simple but not the usual favor)..

Will skyblue, aqua/tiffany blue/pool color stand out even in an evening reception? I understand that this color I like is considered cool color and must be good for a morning ceremony..

You may either post your reply here or you can email me to my personal email address.. thank you and i am looking forward to your feedback.

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Cha-Cha,
There are alot of colors that would work. It depends on the colors you like. What colors will be in bloom in the garden? That is where I would find my accent color. Pick a color form the garden or a complimenting color. Think a shade of pink or even yellow. White is always a great choice with aqua.
      * on this page you will see a beautiful pic reference number#2139. Let me know if youlike something like that.
I chose pink with the aqua cause pink is usually found in gardens. It would be perfect for the Phillipines setting.
      * check out color advice here

      • Cha-cha

        stacey:
thanks for the idea…but will the light to medium shade of blue standout by evening? what color would compliment?
the aqua blue fabric is something mettalic when i looked it on the catalog of a local fashion gallery..hope to hear another great idea from the expert..again, thanks..

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Cha-Cha,
The blue that stands out the most is royal blue in an evening wedding. Normal blues are gonna fade into the evening or look grey. Hot pinks, oranges, whites( especially), show up very well. Did you look at the garden to see what colors would be in bloom? If you still want to use aqua then pair it with a bright color. That will show up very well. The accent color I chose would depend on the setting/colors. Another color is aqua and red. Since the fabric is metallic it will work better since it will have a sheen. Do you have a pic or link I could see of the fabric?

        • Cha-cha

          stacey:
actually 90% of the area is surrounded with mango trees..only about 200-300 sq. meters is for the open reception area ( i think this would accomodate the 100 person). its boundry from the planted mango trees is a trimmed san francisco plant (its leaves has color red, yelllow) and red santan flower plant. These will not be seen by night, i think. However the trunk of the trees in near area is surrounded with white series lights (lights used during Christmas) then the entrance is with an arch (vine plants). Would candle light be ok?

Attached pix (left side) is the closest blue shade that we chose as our motif, but the type of fabric is different. The ones we like shimmers when cought by light..i tried to find the exact pic but can find any..

The area would be nice to look at when in the afternoon but by night only the white lights catch attention.. Should we still use the aqua blue? What color should we need to use as our accent? I don’t like to use darker blue for us Filipina with morena skin color.

Please give me more ideas.. Thanks much Stacey…

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Cha-Cha,
Candlelight would be perfect as long as it is permitted at your site. I would ask to see. The dress color is gorgeous. I think putting white with a shade of orange would be perfect for this.
          * check out these pics
I would find the right ( but lighter shade of blue) that looks best on the skintones. Since you are gonna have proper lighting it will show up and with shimmer that is a plus. The orange shades would make it pop. Or you could go with a simple shades of blue theme. Like darker blue paired with aqua and have white candles and white lights. beautful.

        • Cha-cha

a million thanks stacey.. i will check with my partner if he likes orange.. what i have imagined was the combination of orange and teal.. but i will look at that website were aqua and orange is combined.. i will drop here (before the final day) on what colors we love the most from the colors combi you suggested.. mwah!

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Cha-Cha,
Sounds great. Also ask your fiance what is his fave color and other colors he likes. You too. If you dont like the orange then I can pull some other ideas from your fave colors.

  19. necy

Hey! I’m trying to plan my April/2011 wedding and haven’t came up with many ideas. I’m in the ballpark of wanting a light blue and pale yellow color scheme and my wedding is going to be on the beach. does anyone have any ideas or pictures for me to get ideas from?? If so please email me: deelove1@hotmail.com

  20. cynthia

Hey Stacey! its me cynthia. I had made a post asking you if u could give me a couple ideas for my urquoise- purple-ocean themed wedding and i just waned to say Wow thank u so much!! Those ideas were great! You asked me to send u a link of our venue. The venue is rancho las lomas. Here’s the link :D

    http://southern-california-weddings.com/weddings.html
Le me know what u think PLEASE!! Thank u!!

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Cynthia,
I think something like this would be amazing in that venue.
      * check out the reception colors and style
      * look at this pic

I was wondering if you were renting linens etc. If so what color? How much ocean theme were you wanting to use? I love the top link and pulling brown in with the brown chairs. It looks so beauiful! :D
I also thought the purple used in this wedding was beautful.
      * real wedding

Take a look * at this do you see how they pulled the branches into the centerpieces? This would work very well. Because of the venue type, natural beach elements would work best. I am also thinking of cylinders with small natural colored layered on bottom with floating candles.Using these color choices* bouquet

  21. Indecisive

Hi…I’m getting married in June 2011. I love the combination of blue and pink together, but I’m having trouble choosing shades. I like ice blue with blush/rosy/magenta pinks, but I also like cornflower blue or aqua with fuchsia or raspberry pinks. I’m also afraid of looking too baby showerish with just the pink and blue, and I was thinking of adding another color like yellow or light green to the mix, and then, where do I use all these colors? I definitely like blue BM dress and pink flowers, but where else? Also, I can’t really think of a good theme to pull it all together. It’ll be a church ceremony and country club reception – I’d rather not do the beachy theme, and I’d like to do something a little more gender neutral for the FI since the colors are so girly! Help, please! :?

    • Stacey@Favor Ideas

      Indecisive,
What about your venue do you have a link or pic so I could see what colors work best?
What color of blue do you like? I was thinking aqua and fuschia or pink would be beautiful.
      * look at this
      * what about something like this. You could have touches of pink in with the purple, just a touch It has alot of green in the centerpieces and would work well in the country club.
      * you may like this one

What do you think about peach and deeper oranges or coral? This colors looks fantastic with teal.

      • Indecisive

        Stacey,
I don’t have pictures or links, but the church has off-white walls with white trim and teal carpet and pews (it’s a beautiful church, but that teal has caused me some grief when trying to pick wedding colors, lol). And the country club is about the same – light tan wallpaper with dark green carpet (which I hope will be mostly hidden by all the tables and low lighting). I’ve changed my mind so many times with the colors, but I keep going back to the blue and pink. Blue is my favorite color, so I’d love to incorporate some shade of it. I originally thought about navy and fushcia to try to avoid clashing with all the teal and green, but I had always envisioned having a much more colorful wedding, so I’m just stuck! Hope this helps a little more!

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Indecisive,
          * do you like this? you can eliminate the beach items
I put the aqua/tiffany blue next to a pic of teal carpet and it was a perfect compliment! You coudl even make the florals have more green like add green orchids or greenery to the centerpieces. Can also lighten the colors to a creamy orange like the pic with a paler pink. If you chose too. Actually the more i look at aqua and peach/coral/orange the more I love it!

        • Indecisive

Thank you, Stacey…you have beautful ideas! I hadn’t thought of purple with aqua, and I really like that combination with some green…those table settings looked really pretty. I think I’m definitely going with the aqua/tiffany blue shade…I will just have to decide on pink or purple or I like coral, too. Thanks for all your help!

  22. meg

hi.. we are planning a cocktail party while waiting for the actual program on our wedding day.. any suggestion so that our guests wont get bored? thanks!

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      Meg,
It depends how much time they will have to wait. If you have food and drinks for an hour they will mingle. If there is more time than that they may want to browse or go back to their hotel( if they are out of town). Make sure there is music, it helps the atmosphere. If there is a whimsical wedding you could offer lawn games, a caricature, etc. If it is only an hour( actually it shoudl be no more than that) then simple appetizers and drinks will work.

  23. Heather

Help…My fiance is scottish and is therefore wearing a kilt, the colours being navy, lime green and bright yellow :(
Should I try and match these with my colour scheme, even though those colours dont really match mine or my bridesmaids skin tones?
Let alone they aren’t quite the colours I had in mind…pink and green or fuschia and orange.

Hey my fiancé and I will be getting married in Sempter 2011 and we will be having an outdoor ceremony followed by an indoor reception at he same location. We were thinking of using turqouise and magenta/royal-ish purple as our main colors( since those our favorite colors). We also wanted to throw in an ocean theme. Can u give me a couple suggestions as to how I could do this? What do u think about the colors?
    Please help!

hi stacey. im planning a wedding in the fall for a kentucky meets louisiana kind of theme. hes from KY and im from louisiana. do u think i can pull it off? and do u have any ideas on how i could possibly do this. i do want to incorperate some fall stuff but not alot. any advice would be great! thanx

      Melissa,
One way to tie both of these places together is just to have a southern theme wedding. Add aspects of both places. Like the state flower for us is magnolia and his state is a goldenrod. Another way to do this type of theme is plan a southern wedding adding each states style music that is is well known for. ( kentucky bluegrass? Louisiana zydeco/jazz?) also bringing in foods of each place. kentucky flag color is blue, louisiana is blue white gold. Blue would be easy to use in this style wedding. Were you wanting rustic, modern, etc? Both states incorporate similar things like the fans, mint julep cups, etc. What things do you both like? hobbies, colors, etc. What about the venue? Do you have a link or pic? Does he like the derby or horses? I am trying to see what personality elements coudl be brought to the theme.
      * look at this wedding it has that southern appeal.

        Stacey,
I really wanted a more rustic wedding…not too much white because I’m a very colorful girl. I love magnolias and they would probably be the only flower thats white that I love. I was thinking maybe sunflowers to tie in fall and also LSU, my fav team, and maybe a blue flowers for UK, his fav,(how we get along idk lol) Maybe white pumpins too instead of orange ones to tie in fall. But i love the blugrass and jazz idea…maybe some mardi gras mambo thrown in there! He hates horses but is a very country boy. The wedding is gonna be on the KY river next to an historic house, i tried to get him to want it in Louisiana but no go lol. Anymore ideas u wanna throw at me would be very helpful! thanks sweetie!

          melissa,
What is the colors in the venue? It would be a great place to look for complimenting colors. That is where I would begin. the venue is beautiful, antebellum-like. I like the idea of rustic elegance with this place. I want to make sure I find some ideas to compliment the surrounds too. it would look out of place otherwise. Can’t wait to hear from you!

        • Melissa

          Stacey!
Ok so the 1st floor is a kinda of burgandy/maroon (ew) and the 2nd floor is mustard yellowish..another ew lol. But the main reception area is going to be outside on the river. The only things that will be indside is the buffet, cocktail hour and maybe the cake, but unsure. Any ideas? Im still lovin my yellow, blue, purple, green thing idea (yellow being the main color of course lol). Maybe throw in some burlap and white pumpkins for the fall and BAM there u go!(a lil emril for u lol). But nobody gets what im trying to do here. Please oh please Stacey help!! lol thanks love

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          melissa,
I would go with a fall theme bringing in elements of both places in the food and possibly the colors. The venue has good colors to work with. I am suggesting a fall as yur theme and make it look like fall in the south. That would be your easiest direction. Serve favors and food with both states taste. I like the white pumpkins. I think there may be to many colors though. I like yellow as the main color cause it compliments the venue colors. Let me see if I can find some ideas for you. I know what you are saying i just need the right visuals and colors. I wouldnt go bright colors they will clash. Keep any of your colors more fall muted colors. It would be like gathering wildflowers on the field surrounding the venue( heh THIS could be your decor idea). :D

        • Stacey@FavorIdeas

          melissa,
*This is probably what you were leaning too?
With the way the venue is look to anything tuscan or vineyard it has that rustic appeal.

          * now if you used something like this add orange pumpkins and not white
*I think I jsut found THE thing for you!! Add some deep blue-purple in the centerpieces. Use mason jars and tie raffia around throat of jar instead of these style containers( although this is beautiful).
Now that Iknow your venue colors I DO suggest using sunflowers as your main flower. With this tablesetting you could use your white pumpkins. I hope you love it!! It best suits your venue.

          * look at the amazing decor here.( check out the mardi gras masks)
          * part 2( just add more yellow and not red)
          * the bouquet colors here are perfect for a kentucky meets louisiana, LOVE them. Just add rustic touches and mason jars.

          * actually I am gonna repost this one THIS would be gorgeous! Add the mardi gras masks from the other wedding. I love the centerpieces!! Consider using blue hydrangeas, mini sunflowers, red berries, and a few white roses or carnations.
*I highly suggest this site for a country wedding, check out more weddings

          Stacey,
1st of all…I LOVE U! lol, ur just fabulous darlin. I like the cute little masks kinda just in random centerpieces,,not too much mardi gras but a nice lil hint. 2nd love the wildflower idea…very me, love the blue hydranges, and sunflowers..maybe some goldenrod, purple Wild Lupine (any wildflowers). NO ROSES…im cursed with roses so none of them. Im still not hooked on orange tho..that might take some convincing. I love fall and fall colors I just dont want the wedding to be a sterotype that a fall wedding HAS to have red and orange and brown. Um def no red (we hate U of L) and i really didnt want orange (Florida, gag). But lovin the mason jars..if u have anymore ideas they would much be appreciated darlin! thanks…heres somethin else i found that i like..the blue vases very cute!

*cobalt blue with a country twist

        • Stacey@Favor Ideas

          Melissa,
That is gorgeous!! I would definitely go with the wildflower look. Anything wild looking even lilies. I have one pic that might help set the blue and yellow into motion.
          * look how this was done
I could see using JUST blue hydrangea and yellow sunflowers with a touch of white and yellow wildflowers. OR having girls in cobalt and having sunflowers and grapevine as only flowers. Maybe with a shot of babies breath in the florals because it looks so fresh picked. :D

        • Melissa

          Stacey,
omg thats perfect! Especially since the place where were eating has the trees kind of like the trees in the pic. This is exactly what I’m going to do…do u have anymore ideas? Any would be helpful…trying to plan this wedding on a tight budget. thanks sweetie

          * look at these pics.Cute ideas here

If you use these colors for the bridal party, I would use simple white linens.

    Hi,
My fiance and I want to get married in the early spring. We are getting married in a garden and we like the colors dark purple and yellow/gold but would that be a good color combo for a March/April wedding? If not, could you please give me some better ideas? Thank you!

  27. Kirsten

Hi Stacey. Im planning my wedding for Oct. 2011. I want yellow (like sunflowers everywhere) for my main color…the problem is that I dont want the usual “fall’ colors, I was thinking maybe a   green or a royal blue, or purple but I’m unsure. I don’t want to totally ignore the season so maybe a chocolate brown, but not sure what else would go with it. Also I need the colors to go with a burgundy. Please help!!!

I’m getting married in April 2011 in Florida and I’m having trouble pick out colors for the bridesmaid and decorations. It’s going to be in a church. Thanks

    Hello! I need help!

We’re getting married on 10/08/2011 at a golf course – the ceremony will be outdoors (weather pending) and the ceremony indoors.

I’m having a hard time choosing the colors. I was thinking of using hot pink and black but the chairs at my venue are brown. I know the typical fall color theme but frankly I don’t like them at all. So I’m kind of torn on what to choose.

Here’s the link for the venue :

KennieAnn…my wedding is the week after yours and I’m having the same problem. We were supposed to get married in the spring and we changed venue…gone are my pretty pink seersucker dresses..and like you I don’t want to do black, brown…my ceremony/reception is outside (we are in charleston…it will be hot). If you come up with something fun…..let me now!! Good luck! :?

      • Stacey@Favor Ideas

        Kennieann,
I missed you post! I am thinking hot pink and black would not work with this room. There would be several changes to make it work. Now if you used shades of pink and reds, it would work beautifully. I would choose brown instead of black. Let me know if you see this post and we can work more on your colors!!

        Alex,
If I could get your venue link or pic I would be happy to take a look! :D

    • Stacey@FavorIdeas

      KennieAnn,
Choose brown instead of black to pair with the hot pink.
      * check this out

check out related posts for this wedding below article. I thinkthis would be stunning!!

    • David

Pink and Black great colours…dont worry about the chair colour, you can always hire/buy chair covers.
Black spandex chair covers with pink organza sashes..add a beautiful and delicious hand made chocolate bouquet in pink and black colours…the bouquet then makes a lovely table centre piece and includes chocolates which would be the ‘favours’.
      Just a suggestion..
