Baseball Theme Weddings
"There are only two seasons — winter and Baseball."
— Bill Veeck
You've figured it out you both want to play on the same team for life. But how to play to the cheering crowd when it comes to your wedding day?
Here are a few tips for a wedding Lou Gehrig would love ... and a whole lot of experience below from baseball-loving brides.
Note to Guests: You've Got Box Seats
Try eBay for helpful stationers who can whip up elegant, personalized baseball theme wedding invitations. Or be super-chic and send your guests custom event tickets that look just like the real thing.Baseball Decor
Happily, finding a few fun touches that show off your sporty side isn't hard!A Rousing Reception
Try centerpieces featuring roses in your team colors. Chicago Cubs fan? Place bridesmaids' red and white bouquets in vases you've tied off with royal blue ribbon. Attach a handsome enameled team pin to the center of a bow, and you've got an elegant arrangement.Another fun idea: fill large clear vases with mini baseballs, and top with floral "baseballs" made of densely petaled flowers, like white carnations. Adorable!
Add table numbers made from elegant vintage baseball cards — or simply name your tables after leading lights from your favorite team.
Tastes of the Game
Got a sweet tooth? A candy buffet in your colors can be a bold and beckoning statement. Concession picks are perfect here — so are regional treats. Don't forget to fill a jar or two (or scatter the linens) with a few chocolate baseballs. Personalizing striped takeout or pillow boxes with a cute custom label is half the fun. Or, go upscale and yet still stay on theme with a gourmet popcorn bar — or, dress up nostalgic Cracker Jacks boxes with a ribbon or sticker.Ceremonial Touches
Don't forget the ceremony! A treasured mitt makes a wonderful ring pillow. And for fabulous photos, exit under a shower of pennants .... or ask your best men to line the chapel steps so you can duck beneath an "arch of bats" as husband and wife.Last but not least — hand your guests some Sharpies and have them sign a few baseballs or a handsome bat instead of the usual (yawn!) guest book.
A Moveable Feast
Create an unforgettable cocktail hour and bring the astroturf indoors by offering a few outdoor vending classics to your delighted guests — available at major rental stores: soft pretzels with mustard and cheese (or nachos & cheese), ballpark franks, movie-style popcorn, or salt water taffy in waxed paper bags with personalized labels. The carts make these fabulous. For the non-drinkers, serve up personalized bottled water ... and classic Coke with real sugar (no corn syrup!) in glass bottles. This will get guests cheering for days.
A fun addition to cocktail hour? Mock up some "sports news sections" to take to the printers, with headlines starring you and your honey:
Mark and Tori Named CCAC Couple of the Year
Baseball's Winningest Couple Returns To [Hometown]
Tori Selected To The NAIA True Love Team
Mark Earns Top Hitter, Matrimonial Distinction
Needless to say, happy stats and headlines like these are best served with fresh-cut cigars.
Baseball Favors
The baseball theme's a cinch to pull off when it comes to favors. Here are some fun ones:If your guest list's intimate, offer up baseball caps for your beloved Cubs or Red Sox on a table near the door. Or, old-fashioned Crackers Jacks in the boxes makes a head-turning treat.
Team-emblazoned cookies or individual cupcakes can really dress to impress when whipped up by talented pastry artists. Set up a baseball-themed candy buffet. Or, hand out bags of favorite hometown treats: Cubs branded peanuts, Boston Baked Beans.Attach a cute tag with a favor saying, such as You Made Our Wedding A Hit or Our Love Hit A Home Run.

Hello,
I’m planning my small engagement party in my backyard. We met at a softball field so we would like that to be our theme and create our backyard to look like a stadium or at least close to it. Do you have any suggestions on decorations or party favors?
By the way, we have a pool in the center of our yard.
Thank you
You all have such wonderful ideas! My older sister is getting married and I’m her maid of honor so I’m looking for some ideas for her bridal shower since she wants to keep the actual wedding pretty traditional. I was thinking of cupcakes decorated as baseballs instead of cake. Any ideas for decorations that can incorporate baseball but keep it classy? I’d appreciate it, good luck to you all!!
I think the cupcakes are a great idea! As far as decorations go, my girls kept is minimal, with 2 balloon bunches – red & white balloons & 1 had a red Sox mylar balloon & the other had a bridal shower one. 1 was going to go on either side of the couch we were sitting on.
They also did themed baskets as centerpieces, which doubled as giveaways. 1 was Red sox themed & the others were other interests we have (where we went on the honeymoon, patriots, gardening, etc.)
They also got the mini baseball heltmets that they use at the parks for ice cream and filled them with candies tied up in tulle. Those were the favors, which I loved!
Do you by any chance know where they got the mini baseball helmets from??? I really wanted to use them as favors and fill them with the blue and silver foiled hershey kisses…but i havent been able to fine them anywhere!!! Thanks!
Does anyone have any ideas for yankee favors? We got engaged at the last game at yankee stadium. Thanks!
You could do bottles of Yankee hot sauce or bags of Yankee peanuts.

M&M has personalized candies, you can put the team logo on it, your picture or just sayings.
hey,
for our wedding we put out peanuts & cracker jacks. The bags of peanuts were piled in a big tin Red Sox bucket, but to be honest, you couldn’t even see that.
For my shower, the girls got mini baseball helmets & filled them with Hershey kisses wrapped in tulle. They were cute!
I loved your pictures. Where did you get your cake topper?
Hi Linda,
Sorry for the delay! I ordered the cake topper from a website called Angel Kind
Charity was so sweet! And her prices are great!
Hey! My fiance is having a difficult time coming up with groomsmen gifts. He doesn’t want to give the same gifts that everyone gives. It doesnt have to be baseball themed, as they are not all Cubs fans. If anyone has any great unique ideas, please let me know! Thanks!
you can get a personalized baseball bat at this site. http://www.goweddinggifts.com/gc187.html You could always put yalls wedding date, or just a short line of thanks to the groomsmen. I think we might use these baseball cufflinks as our gifts : http://www.classiccufflinks.com/index.php?cat=baseball%20cufflinks. Hope this helps some!
I was thinking about the baseball cufflinks as well, some of them can be quite classy looking and it would give them a reminder of your big day when they used them.
I love them!
Hi Ashley,
We had a baseball themed wedding. We gave the guys baseball cufflinks(just the baseballs no teams), the hope was for them to wear at the wedding but I don’t know if that happened. A insulated cooler tub with their initials(the ones you can take for tailgating) We also gave them a pilsner glass etched with their names and the wedding date, but on the bottom of the pilsner was a baseball.
My fiance and I are both huge baseball fans. I was born a Cardinals fan and am staying true to my team even if he is a Cubs fan. We wanted to incorporate baseball into our wedding without being cheesy about it. Plus when it comes down to it I am a girl and I want my girlie wedding. We decided on baseball tickets for our save the dates. We are getting married next April so right around opening day so it works out perfectly. Also instead of using a pic of a stadium we are using one of us at a game and wearing our teams colors. Also one last thing that we did is we are having our wedding at 4:10 pm b/c we all know that baseball games never start at the top of the hour. Oh and he is having a cubs hat on home plate for his grooms cake. It was featured in a bridal magazine and he fell in love with it so he is getting that. He is also giving personalize bats for grooms gifts and we are going to a local baseball field to have some pics taken on the day of our wedding. These are just a few of our ideas so we can incorporate our love for the game but still keep the classic wedding look that I am dreaming of. Please if anyone has any other ideas let me know. And I hope that maybe I have given a few ideas to some of you. Congrats to all on you big day. Take care.
I wanted to have a girlie wedding but also incorporate baseball too since we are both huge baseball fans. We are having a traditional wedding cake but with a cake topper of a bride and groom playing baseball. During the cake cutting we are wearing personalized baseball jerseys in our favorite team with our last name and our wedding day on the backs. We are also asking all our guests to bring a hat and/or baseball cap of their favorite team to wear as they enter the reception because we are having a wedcarpet entrance. Check the website out red carpet runway Its basically like walking the red carpet and we customized the back drop to have our names wedding date and our two favorite baseball teams. Everything else I have in my wedding is totally girlie but I wanted to include baseball to be fun and unique. I can’t wait to see how are guest are going to like it.
My fiance made our wedding website. were getting married August 1,2009
http://www.smithmaceywedding.com
Were doing classic baseball. Each table will be named after a baseball player. i.e. table 3 Babe Ruth etc.. Our favors will be baseballs with our wedding date and our names on it. Were having a comedian who can impressionate Harry Kalus( hall of fame announcer/ Phillies announcer) to announce our wedding party.Always looking for more ideas to make this wedding fun but classic too.
I too am looking for “classic baseball” ideas. I saw your website and love it. One thing I noticed was that both you and your fiance love different teams; I have the same thing… I love the Yanks, my future husband loves the Cubs. I’m looking for ways to incorporate both teams without making it look like a carnival. What sort of advice or ideas/decor are you going with?
Thanks.
A great Idea when you have different “favorite” teams…..is to use an inexpensive “scoreboard” (can be made easily with signs/stencil lettering and paints on a piece of pressed wood or poster board–old fashion style)….you can use “bride” in place of “visitor” and “groom” in place of “home” for the teams (in your favorite team colors of course) and score-keepers (read kids) can keep score of “kisses” on the board….incorporate colors—but as accents to traditional black white & red.
Another Idea is to use a “back drop” that can be made of actual chain link fence or wood—even a strong cardboard would be useable in this instance……and put this behind the cake…..to make it look like a little league or “older” type home plate back stop. And nowadays they make the “stadium” wall clings to make the area look like your favorite field, with it made from an actual photo of the stadiums
Hope these idea’s help.
still looking for the way to get a baseball ticket as an invitation. can anyone help?
Hi, Brian
I think you are going have to make them yourself, I haven’t seen any invitation tickets. This site advertises baseball themed invitation, not tickets. For my wedding I made tickets for the place cards, invitations would have been too much, don’t forget you would also need a response card etc. I will be on the look out for them for you. Good Luck
Hi Brian,
I’ve designed the attached placecard for several weddings and have customized them into invitations for a few brides. I’d be happy to help you if you’re interested. I can be reached at christina_walsh@verizon.net. Good luck with the rest of your planning!
Christina
Hi Christina,
I love your placecard design. I am trying to get in touch with you to see if you can do them for our wedding. I tried your email but it came back? How can I reach you?
Christina
Hi Christina,
I love your baseball placecards. Hoping you could help with them for our wedding. I tried to email you but it didn’t work. How can I reach you?
Thanks!
Another Christina
Hi Christina Walsh,
I absolutely LOVE your place cards. I tried emailing you but it was returned. How may I reach you? Do you have a template you use?
Thanks!
Marie
Brian,
I made my own. The picture is attached. The bottom will be perforated, so our guests can tear it off & mail it back. They are sized to a regular business size envelope. Of course, you could change the theme & pictures to make it appropriate for any team.
Hope this helps!
Amanda
Hey Amanda,
I was wondering if you had a template or something for your baseball ticket and how did you get the perforation. Let me know! I am very interested in using that as my RSVP cards! GREAT IDEA!! By the way, mine is CUBS though, so I would have to change that! Thank you!
Sorry! I don’t have a template. When I send them out to have the copies made, I will have them perforated at the print shop. I would be happy to help you put something together if you want to email me. Now that I have it set up it wouldn’t take long to switch the pictures & change the words. Feel free to email me….. amanda100172@yahoo.com
Amanda,
I love your invitations, any chance you can help me out for mine? I am getting married and having my reception at Dodgers Stadium. Please let me know if we can get something figured out. Garibays5@verizon.net

brides, here is a baseball theme wedding board i found at snippetandink.com
* Board #181: Take Me Out to the Ballgame…
ive been searching everywhere for the ticket invites could someone please send it to me shugart4@hotmail.com
i just found this thread- which is AMAZING! i love the variety of centerpiece ideas – i actually just settled on my centerpieces which are going to be goldfish in regular sized fish bowls with dark blue stones and a small baseball inside the bowl that the fish is swimming around, with tea lights around it on the table. it fits perfectly with my mets blue & orange color scheme and wasnt too much baseball overload for our formal wedding!
Laurie, hi my fiance and I are huge met fans and we really want to incorporate that in to your wedding…he really wants the blue and orange to be our colors I am not so sure could you please tell me what you did?
I also had a semi-red sox wedding in October of 2004.. Although it wasn’t quite as elaborate as some of yours, the one thing that people (still to this day-4 years later) remember was my place cards (attached). They were really inexpensive ($1.50 each I think) and were created by a (very patient) stay at home mom. I highly recommend them.
For those of you interested in seeing other ideas, my wedding can be viewed at the Knot: Lisa & Kevin in Millis, MA
Hi Lisa,
Do you have the contact information for the woman who made your place cards. I love them!

Thanks
Melissa
Here’s a link to my wedding planning site, there’s a ton of baseball themed stuff on there
http://sites.google.com/site/charityandjohn/
Charity,
I took a look at your wedding website, my fiance and I want a Mets themed wedding also. I noticed you named your tables after Mets players i/e the David Wright table. How did you do your place card settings? I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how we we’re going to do that and I LOVE YOURS!
Thank you!
Here is the picture of the escort card described in my post, below.
We are getting married in one week. We went with a retro ticket design for the escort cards, as we thought that the retro look would be a little bit classier. Our printer (Jen Farrell of Star Shaped Press here in Chicago) took a 1931 Cardinals – Athletics World Series – we’re Cardinals fans – ticket stub as inspiration, and created our escort card. (Will try to upload it here.) The end is perforated like a real ticket, and we’ll write in the name and table number on the end of the ticket. (“Mother of Bride, Ozzie Smith – Table 1.) Yes, we’ve named our tables after our favorite Cardinals, past and present. I think that they turned out very well.
