Baseball Theme Weddings

"There are only two seasons — winter and Baseball."
    — Bill Veeck

You've figured it out — you both want to play on the same team for life. But how to play to the cheering crowd when it comes to your wedding day?

Here are a few tips for a wedding Lou Gehrig would love ... and a whole lot of experience below from hype-creative fans.

Play Ball! - Placecard Holder
Baseball Cufflinks (2 pairs)
Groom Pitching Baseball & Bride at Home Plate
17" Engraved Rawlings Baseball Bat
Monogrammed Baseball Cap
White Glass Marker
Personalized Zippo
Baseball Bat Free engraving No minimum order

Note to Guests: You've Got Box Seats

Try eBay for helpful stationers who can whip up elegant, personalized baseball theme wedding invitations. Or be super-chic and send your guests custom event tickets that look just like the real thing.

Baseball Decor

Decor doesn't have to be hard. Try centerpieces featuring roses in your team colors. Chicago Cubs fan? Try red and white hand-tied bouquets in vases you've tied off with royal blue ribbon. Attach a handsome enameled team pin to the center of a bow, and you've got an elegant arrangement.

Another fun idea: fill large clear vases with mini baseballs, and top with floral "baseballs" made of densely petaled flowers, like white carnations. Adorable!

Got a sweet tooth? A candy buffet in your colors can be a bold and beckoning statement. Concession picks are perfect here — so are local city treats. Don't forget to fill a jar or two (or scatter the linens) with a few chocolate baseballs. Personalizing striped takeout or pillow boxes with a cute custom label is half the fun. Or, go upscale and yet still stay on theme with a gourmet popcorn bar (Dale & Thomas is a decadent favorite).

Then, dress up your tables with elegant vintage baseball cards — or simply name them after leading lights from your favorite team.

Don't forget the ceremony! A treasured mitt makes a wonderful ring pillow. And for fabulous photos, exit under a shower of pennants .... or ask your best men to line the chapel steps so you can duck beneath an "arch of bats" as husband and wife.

Last but not least — hand your guests some Sharpies and have them sign a few baseballs or a handsome bat instead of the usual (yawn!) guest book.

A Moveable Feast

Create an unforgettable cocktail hour and bring the astroturf indoors by offering a few outdoor vending classics to your delighted guests — available at major rental stores: soft pretzels with mustard and cheese (or nachos & cheese), ballpark franks, movie-style popcorn, or salt water taffy in waxed paper bags with personalized labels. The carts make these fabulous.

For the non-drinkers, serve up personalized bottled water ... and classic Coke with real sugar (no corn syrup!) in glass bottles. This will get guests cheering for days.

A fun addition to cocktail hour? Mock up some "sports news sections" to take to the printers, with headlines starring you and your honey:

Mark and Tori Named CCAC Couple of the Year
Baseball's Winningest Couple Returns To [Hometown]
Tori Selected To The NAIA True Love Team
Mark Earns Top Hitter, Matrimonial Distinction

Needless to say, happy stats and headlines like these are best served with fresh-cut cigars.

Baseball Favors

The baseball theme's a cinch to pull off when it comes to favors. Here are some fun ones:

If your guest list's intimate, offer up baseball caps for your beloved Cubs or Red Sox on a table near the door. Or, old-fashioned Crackers Jacks in the boxes makes a head-turning treat.

Team-emblazoned cookies or individual cupcakes can really dress to impress when whipped up by talented pastry artists. Set up a baseball-themed candy buffet. Or, hand out bags of favorite hometown treats: Cubs branded peanuts, Boston Baked Beans. Attach a cute tag with a favor saying, such as You Made Our Wedding A Hit or Our Love Hit A Home Run.

Here’s my storyboard I’m using :D I’m still working on it but so far so good.

All the dresses at the bottom would be sapphire blue with black netting, and the girls would be holding orange flowers

Have you tried Esty.com ? They’ve got a ton of awesome garters on there, I found my Mets one on Ebay though…when I get home I’ll try to contact the seller and see if they have any Yankee ones for you if you want :D

Jeannie, do you happen to have the number to the Mets PR? I can’t find it anywhere.

Paula (and everyone),

Check Oriental Trading for hats. They also have other baseball stuff. They don’t sell team licensed stuff just baseball themed stuff.

Hi Paula! funny you should mention the White Sox (one of the groomsmen in my wedding is actually on the 40 man roster for the White Sox!) anyways, my soon to be sister in law has her own promotional products company & I know you can order the baseball key chains from her (and the baseball hats too). Miranda’s Promotional Products - Noel Miranda - 661-298-9119 Hope this helps! :D

I am the grooms mother and the my son and his fiance would like t a Chicago White Sox theme for their wedding. Can nayone help me out? I am looking for small baseball key chains that can be engraved with their name and date on them. Also looking for cheap baseball hats for the servers to wear at the reception. I enjoyed reading your ideas. I really like the peanuts and CrackerJack idea.

Hi Everyone!

I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s ideas on here! My fiance & I are also having a baseball themed wedding so every idea is helpful. Here’s something I came up with & would like to share with you other brides: On our invitations I’m designing, I’m going to have this: “In your arms…I’m safe at home.” Also, there’s going to be a baseball diamond with our names in it like this pic (if it doesn’t appear with my post, you can see it on our website: http://www.weddingwire.com/allisonandjoshua). Also, we’re going to be standing at a home plate in the garden where we have our ceremony & then we’re going to use that to have our wedding party sign. Let’s see, what else… I’m going to make a silk baseball pillow for our ringbearer to carry our rings on in a baseball glove….And I’m going to design baseball cards using our engagement pics to give out with the favors (cracker jack boxes, peanuts, sunflower seeds & big league chew gum)…My future mother in law is going to make our cake topper by imprinting our names & wedding date 11/7/08 on a baseball and our cake designer said she can make it look like the ball got thrown onto the top of the cake (like those baseball stickers that “crack” the car windows.) So, with the cake topper & the home plate & a pic from the wedding we can have it all framed & add it to our sports memorabilia collection! :? We have lots more ideas & I will try to post them soon to share with everyone! And please, post more of your ideas too! :P

We’ve been planning our baseball wedding for about 6 months now. I’ve been trying to be creative with our ideas. Just as we finish our planning (wedding is August 2nd), I find this website. We’re getting married on home plate at Great American Ball Park (Cincinnati Reds.)!!

We had Mr. Met…which is the NYMets mascot. We would have loved to have had a player. We contacted the Mets through their public relations office. They got us in contact with the right people.

I forgot to ask Jeannie! How did you get the Mets guy to come to your reception! My fiancee and my soon to be father in law are in LOVE with Ryne Sandberg to show up! How would you go about telling them about it or contacting people who could help!

Hey ladies,
I was so excited to find this site!!! I am not only having a baseball themed reception, but am having it at the ballpark, during a game. Our ceremony will be at our church and then we will ship everyone to the ballpark for a game. We don’t dance so this seemed like a great alternative. The group suites at Safeco Field in Seattle are a good deal for something like this and all the food and entertainment and space and parking (seemingly everything!) is included and everyone has loved the idea. Our biggest hurdle is what favors to give and are leaning towards doing custom lanyards since everyone is required to keep there ticket on them to get access to the suite level. Any ideas of cheap lanyard sites? Thanks again for all your ideas and I look forward to reading more!

Hey, Here are some ideas my finance and I are doing for our baseball wedding. We are taking all of his old baseball pennets and hanging them from the ceiling in the bar area. We also got some really big vases and are filling them up with baseballs and will be sitting them on top of each other in different angles.

As for our cake..we both don’t eat it..so we are making an ice sculptor , with engaged baseball bats frozen in the sculpor that we got from http://www.littlesluggers.com, we will be adding baseballs as well to the ice sculptor and the fun thing is..it will be shaped like a cake.

Enjoy
