Fit for a Queen: The Purple Theme
But we're likely to see even more of it — especially as fall layouts and design collections induce the rest of us to bow down to its many charms.
Of course, it's difficult to use a single word like 'purple' to describe such a broad range of colors. Much more so than with colors like pink or yellow, purple comes in dramatically different hues ... and moods.
On the dark and sophisticated end, there's royal purple, suitable for low-lit ballrooms and floor-length gowns.
Royal Purple's ideal for formal events.
Then, bringing a completely different feel to the table: orchid. Feminine yet not untraditional, this suggests flirty frocks on bridesmaids under a tropical sun, or a garden affair that slowly unrolls over an enchanted afternoon.

Purple's at its flirtiest in its Orchid or Heliotrope hues.
Purple's lighter shades that lean toward red have a more playful, romantic feel, reminiscent of pink. And the pinker types of purple look just as striking as pure pinks when you pair them with fresh shades of green.
But choose a purple that leans more toward blue, and you've got the perfect excuse to indulge in armfuls of hydrangeas ... and a great country-casual feel for your wedding (think wide-open fields and apple trees, farmhouses, porcelain sinks and powder blue.)

On the blue end of the spectrum, purple gets an ultra-romantic and fresh country feel.
Purple's hardly a shy color, though. And in its most saturated forms, it can almost spin out of control. So for bridesmaids gowns or table linens, look for less vivid shades ... or just go ultra-purple with the sashes and runners.
The best foil for purple overall? Often, it's lots of diamond-white, which makes purple look crisp and tailored. Plus, other near-neutrals do just as well: try a deep chocolate brown, charcoal gray, or shiny platinum.

Chic, energizing Aubergine's a favorite of fashion editors everywhere.
Talk Back on Purple
What flavor of purple captured your heart? How did you possibly decide between its many personalities? And did you always love purple, or was it the season's gorgeous new collections inspire you to give this classic hue a second look?

Hi Stacey,
I’m due to get married August 14th, 2010. I would love to have an Autum theme, But every theme that I’ve looked at has been leafs or pumpkins. Please tell me that there are other themes out there than the ones that I have found. Ive never planned a wedding before and have not a clue what I need or where to start So if you could plese help
tonya,
i am assuming by the purple themes forum you were thinking of this color? if not, what are some colors you are drawn too and what style or vision of wedding were you wanting. simple, elegant, casual, semi formal, formal, fun,? what does your venue look like? usually there is a style you can derive from there. it is best to look at location so you can choose something, colors and decor, to enhance or compliment with what is there. it helps to look at your home, your closet, pay attention to the things you use to decorate with. this will tell you the taste you have. include your fh tastes and you will have a wedding that speaks volumes about your personalities. you dont even have to use a theme. you could simply go with for example: a loft venue has a more serene yet modernish vibe to it. it is associated with wine and appetizers. so you could take a wine idea and that is your theme.say your venue needs a black and white color theme to keep it simple yet perfect for its interior. you want to add another color using the wine theme, purple. take grapes that appear frosted set them in a clear glass bowl and surround with clear votive holders and white candles. or submerge grapes in cylinders with a floating candle and makes a old world look have a modern edge. you might like this theme, it would be easy to do and perfect for fall!! green grapes would work too!
oh yes you can do anything you love! it is not just for leaves and pumpkins.
Hi! My wedding is May 15, 2010 and I am the worlds WORST planner, a Groom who wants to get married back home in Michigan (we live in Colorado) and an extremely tight budget! I don’t know where to begin.. don’t know what colors …. HELP!!
laura, have you got your venue? if so can i see a pic of the location? that way i can begin with some ideas to compliment its style and color. can you tell me how what you want your wedding to look like? so your tastes can be incorporated?
Hi Stacey,
my wedding is in Feb 2010 in the beautiful island of Barbados, it is also going to be a garden wedding in the evening. I want to use a royal purple theme with hints of ivory and lime green. I want my moh to wear a rpyal purple dress but I am not sure how to incorporate these colors into my junior bm dresses as well as my flower girl. Also, what should my groom and gm wear? Please help, I am sooooo late!!!

if it were me, i think white dresses with colored sashes would look very nice. i was thinking have the purple or lime sashes with purple and lime bouquets. especially considering the wedding location, light and airy.
* like on these pics
*tips
due to the fact it is an evening wedding, you will want it to be location and evening wedding attire friendly. so my suggestion is a lightweight and well fitted suit. think taupe, grey, khaki, ( for non beach weddings a khaki suit fits a casual affair, but at a destination or beach wedding, it is very appropriate). just make it more upscale. like this link and first link.
*the grooms attire
if you are thinking putting the guys in black then keep it lightweight fabric. since you are in the garden by the beach, it would be okay. on the beach ceremony, lighter colors and fabrics fit that locale best.
Hi! Good day! My wedding is on March 8, 2010. What do you think is the best wedding color and theme? I like the beach sunset colors… like orange and blue… OR Violet, amaranth (pink to red), and orange OR pink, gray and chocolate brown… im so confused. please help. I added some pictures… this will be our reception area. Lighthouse and pavillion w/ a grand ballroom for back up just in case it rains… I want it simple but elegant. Mood should be lively and full of fun. What do you suggest?
Hi Stacey,
I’ve been reading all of your stuff and loving your suggestions. I’m getting married in February (in Florida so not really winter but still a bit chilly out) near/possibly ON the beach with the reception to follow in a ballroom. My favorite color is royal purple and my fiance loves blue (royal or electric) and I’d love to incorporate the two. The problem is, I want the girls in purple dresses, and I def want purple flowers! How can I combine these colors in my overall scheme? Everyone else feel free to help, not just Stacey!
Thanks!!
Ashley

hi stacey
i need help in deciding what type of suit n what color for the groom. i am having a Royal Theme, and my color scheme is deep purple, gold and ivory. Many people have suggested that we get a black suit for the groom, but I think it might look a bit odd..also we need the suit to complement the theme as well. Please help with the suit type, and colors for the shirt, vest and tie
thanks
carmen,
what is the formality of the wedding? if your going with a tux black would be the way to go and have a royal purple or ivory vest tie etc. if your having a formal daytime wedding( which is royal theme i am assuming long dresses and tuxes) the cutaway tux with ascot would look amazing. evening formal have a double breasted black tux or black tails.
*groom style
*great guideline
*real groom
for the vest consider a elegant finish, royalty would go classic looks in luxurious fabrics….
*vest example
hi stacey
thanks for the links you provided, they really helped.
the wedding is going to be very formal. i want the page boys to wear ivory tux’s, with vests and bow ties. the flower girls are wearing ivory and gold. my bridesmaids are wearing deep purple. what would you suggest for the groomsmen. i want them to be different from the groom. what style and color do you think will go for the groomsmens shirts, ties and vest?
thanks
carmen,
if the girls are gonna be in deep purple then i would still keep it classic looking. it will be the best look hands down. if you want the guys to have some color then by all means go with a matching purple vest and tie. if it were me i would really consider the simple black with grey or classic black with ivory. you didnt mention what the groom would be in, black with ivory? if so, then do the black with the purple. you cant go wrong just make sure it is luxurious looking vest. iwouldnt put them in white or ivory tuxes.
stacey, are you a wedding planner and if you are where are you? I’m getting married sept-4-2010. we are getting married on the beach is what i want. Having a hard time thinking of colors that will look good. Mine and my fiance’s favorite color is blue, his is royal blue mine is more carolina/baby blue. we both also like purple. help. I am getting Married May 29-2010 and I am having a hard time nailing down colors. I know i want to use some shade of blue but I don’t know what shade or what to mix it with. I am not a big pink fan but I am not against using it. Any color pallets you can suggest with any shade of blue would be good. I have seen a cornflower blue and a pool blue that I have liked before.
THANKS!
courtney,
can i get a few more details like your venue pics or colors and the type of wedding you want. that way i can help pick a color scheme that will express your wedding vision. thanks!!
Stacey …thank you SO much for your help. I have attached some photos of my venue. I hope it helps. If not the link to my venue is http://www.ambienceandthehelleniccenter.com/gallery.nxg#2_TG3882
I want a romantic setting and I am planning on having a lot of candlelight. I am a HUGE cinderella fan & i even toyed with doing a cinderella theme. I love fairytales…what girls doesn’t.
I also want it to look like spring or summer..i tend to pick fall colors too much which isn’t good. I am open to any and every suggestion or vision you give. THANK YOU again!!!
courtney,
blue is the traditional wedding color from the beginning of weddings ( before white was) so it has a history to boot!! smile. i LOVE this color scheme, its also clean, fresh, and timeless and will still love it years down the road. this so looks like spring or summer. the feature was actually called spring formal. let me know what you think.

i think the last 3 links i gave you is the way to go. it is a icy silver blue which is gorgeous, using an all white or white and blue flowers, which makes it super easy. the color scheme itself exudes elegance, romance, and fairytale quality that your looking for. i think it would be PERFECT in this venue. i think the girls would love wearing blue( which you could even go with a elegant deep blue on them and have them carrying light blue bouquets for contrast) keep their dresses the only deep blue in the color scheme, unless you choose to put the guys in a sharp navy suit, think tom cruise/katie holmes wedding he wore navy blue. plus since you lean you lean to fall colors the mix darker blue attire will play a role in that too!!
Stacey thank you so much for all of your suggestions!! I LOVE everything you mentioned….i am going to go wtih that deep blue and light blue contrast! Thank you so much….you ROCK!!
I’m getting married in Oct.2010, and we want to use like a deep or victrian purple with cream or ivory. What other colors could we incorporate into that color scheme for the bouquets and boutineers?
Also how would the deep puple with the ivory or cream look on the table settings

Anita,
I LOVE the color of this bridesmaid dress. Where did you find it?
I am getting married in November and I was going to have silver candelabras but now my mom is thinking gold. Which one would you suggest? I want my accent colors to be more fall colors.
Please help!
kayla,
i think the silver would play off the fall colors really well. another option is wrought iron which would be outstanding in this type setting. this is what i would choose for a fall colored wedding. it exudes elegance and a quality look that is hard to beat!!
Just In Case Budget Tip: a look for less? you might be surprised that wrought iron and gold can be less expensive to rent than silver. check out your local rental galleries or florists to compare prices.
Hi, I am getting married this september, my bridesmiads are wesring a dark plum, I need help with accent colors for chair stashes, table cloths, flower ideas etc. Please help!
Thank you,

annie,
can i see the color of your venue? also what type of vision do you see for your wedding? be happy to help!!
I’m getting married in november 2010 the saturday before thanksgiving. My color scheme that i plan on having is lilac, pink and silver i need help being i want to incorporate those colors into a fairytale theme and my fiance has already stated that he doesn’t want alot of pink. He is also deciding whether he will wear his army dress uniform being that he will be just coming back from deployment in Kosovo.
Any suggestions please it will be greatly appreciated.
Tinejah,
it has a touch of pink, with shades of lilacs and plums in the bouquets. bringing the white and a hint of plum into the reception. topping it off with lighting to make it look dreamy. the silver is pulled in on the candelabras, silverware, and i would have silver and white favors. the vests on gm and bm dress sash could be changed from champagne to more silvery grey.
would you consider a lilac with deep plum and accents of silver and pink? i made a mood board to show how it can look. maybe it will be something your looking for. i hope so!!
Here’s a collage i made as inspiration for my wedding colors this upcoming july 09. The colors are shades of purple, fuschia, and yellows… hope you like it and maybe it will some of you guys! :)
deb,
just beautiful! rich colors that look dreamy!!! love it!!

Hello,
I’m getting married 27.12.09, my wedding colours are deep white with shot black purple. I am struggling with ceterpiece arrangments. I have to have an Orchid fower as i have chosen a very difficult day for florists, (the dutch man’s last visit will be 23.12.09) whicj means i must have a long lasting flower. However i haven’t come accross a really amazing design for the tables. i have got tall standing vases that slightly widen at the top. Is there anyone who can help please? x
Thanks kayte x
kayte,
this is just a thought. have vases with floating orchids in purple with purple floralytes inside. you can consider putting river rocks in bottom of vases too. branches in vases are another gorgeous effect with floralytes. the effect would be breathtaking against a white linen with black napkin setting. consider reception lighting in purple to give the entire room a wash of color ( it will still look purple even if you use JUST black and white in reception decor)

hi there
i’ve chosen a royal themed wedding with the colors rich dark purple, gold and ivory. please can u assit me in deciding what colors the bridesmaids and flower girls should wear and also combinations for the groom and groomsman suits
carmen,
i am thinking girls should be in a lighter elegant color such as lavender with darker bouquets(you dont have to pull the lavender in any of the other decor unless you want the contrast, at the knot you will see how lush it looks ) otherwise another idea is to have lighter to darker shades of purples in bouquets and set them against a shade of deep purple. have the guys in simple classic black, it would be the best choice for this color scheme, just separate them by the boutonniere colors ( white bout. for groom, purple for gm) another idea is by the vest and tie colors, groom in black and ivory and groomsmen in black and vest matching bm dress. for the flower girl you could have her in a ivory dress/ black sash. or all ivory with ivory hair wreath.

I’m having a white wedding dress that has ivory/cream and the bouquet flowers that I want to do are a dark purple, iris, purple bell vine, and some dark purple roses with cream accent flowers maybe baby roses. I want the bm to have a cream based bouquet and a shade of purple dresses. I’m not sure what to do with the rest of the wedding color wise. I also have to incorporate my fiance’s navy carreer and my navy upbringing. He is going to ware his dress uniform (blues - October wedding). Also we are getting married on Sweetest Day. I want a romantic, classy, and military traditional wedding all in one. I added an url of the wedding dress that I am looking at (click my name). Please help.
nicole,
tying in some military traditions will pull in the navy. this is a board i created i hope it helps with your wedding planning!!
Hi, My wedding is in Oct 2010 and my colours are purple, fuschia, apple green and white. I haven’t found an inspiration that has all these colours in it and am getting nervous that it might be too much for our wedding. Have you come across anything?
danielle, great color scheme. i made a board hoping it will show you how it will look. i used a garden setting but anytime will work for these colors, in all cases leave the green in the greenery with accents of white. the rest will be purple and fuschia as shown in board. i gave you a choice though with the bm dresses. you can choose green or fuschia and no matter which dress you choose i found one bouquet tha would suit both!! for october you could just change out the flowers to calla lilies or dahlias if you didnt want roses( the bm bouquet colors are already perfect for fall) and i would choose the fuschia dress. have guys in classic black. for the linens you could choose a medium purple, really your colors are just a range of purples which work out soooo well!! let me know what ya think!!
hi… im gettin married in mid 2010….. i like lilac and pink theme… but since i have to wear gold jewellery… the theme will end up as lilac ,pink and gold…. and im not sure itll look nice…/ also wat is the shade of pink i should choose to create a fairytale lookin effect in the hall….? pls help thanks…………..p.s.pls post some pics of my theme tooo
asipath,
it will be beautiful!! go with a pale elegant pink for the hall to give it a ethereal quality. you dont have to worry about adding the gold as a third color. i wouldnt fret over the metallics. they will look beautiful on their own. cause i am sure your table setting will have silverware. so unless you just “choose to add gold” i wouldnt worry about it. gold will make it look super classy though and fairytale. just have light gold or champagne gold table linens to showcase your lilac and pink. then head on over to a gold and white gilded wedding cake.
*fairytale wedding
*purple wedding( pink flowers mixed in centerpieces would be gorgeous with this! even with the lilac; your linens could be darker.)
here are some pics…

What accent colors would you suggest for a eggplant/lapis shade of purple? My wedding is in August and in Texas. What about ideas for flowers. I like bright and bold colors. We want our wedding to be fun but semi-formal.
elise, i headed to theknot.com (go here click wedding photos then it will bring to color details for more weddings)for all these ideas. i love the 1st wedding i posted (becky and like and incorporating the grapevine wow! i love that they used instead of other colors a vivid spectrum of purples including magenta, which brought it to life. actually i think that is what i would do is bring in other purples. you will get the bright/bold your after. but it will be great for a semi formal affair and still be fun.

Hi,
I am getting married in September 2009 and my dress is champagne and ivory in color and my bridesmaids dresses are an eggplant color. I am having trouble finding flowers that would look well with that color scheme. does anyone have any suggestions? I thought about purple and pink, but I am not sure how that would go with my dress. Any help is appreciated…Thanks!
rebecca, beautiful color scheme!! i am posting a few pics that will work. add a darker ribbon to the calla lily bouquet. in the bridal party pic, this is another color you can put with this. a champagne and green bouquet which will stand out and look sooo elegant! ( the one in bridal party pic is orchids and has a tinge of color in center) i just love the pale green and champagne agaisnt the eggplant, i think its my fave!!
rebecca, now for the green. breathtaking!!
I like these pictures and ideas. My problem right now is finding the actual flowers to go in the bouquet. Purple must not be in season for silk flowers right now. The green is something different. I may have to try that and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the suggestion!
Picasso Calla Lily’s are my new favorite flower. Dark purple and cream.
Has anyone seen any royal purple/gold/champagne inspiration boards?
Thanks!

hi girls..a spring wedding with purple dresses, the flowers could be like easter spring colors, iris,in purples, and yellows,whites..
for the fall the color purple dresses, your could use ivory color flowers and purple mums..or jewel tone gerber daisies…
with deep purple, any combination can go.
purple and light blue also look nice together, and the flower to go with that could be the blue and purple shade hydranga.that flower is and really nice arrangement..
when my sister got maried in 1974 she had lavender and lt blue, and her flowers were daisys, the men had blk tuxedos and ther shirts matched the dresses.. it was very pretty…
Hi I am getting married on 25th September 2009 in Sorrento, Italy. I am having a purple, silver and white theme as my Dress is white with silver detailing embroidered on. What can you suggest for the men to wear? The Bm’s are wearing purple dresses with a silver waistband with a bow at the back.
Thanks, I look forward to your response
siobhan, wow italy!omg!! what a beautiful setting!!
if this is a more formal occasion a dark grey tux with a lighter grey r silver tie and vest. if more semi formal style have a simple charcoal grey suit with silver or grey tie . if its super casual a great charcoal suit or pair of slacks with white shirt.
* Black Tuxedos
* We rent business suits, too! ( i love the black/silver here as well)
* 3 Button Italian Super 140’s Black Tuxedo, Hand Tailored, Satin Lapels
* $650 CHIANTI Italian Grey Charcoal Men’s Suit
gogle image charcoal grey suit and also charcoal grey tux. as far as suits go check out the italian suits (google image) see how they are made( i have always loved the cut of these the best) they really are sharp. i chose charcoal grey because it will blend with silver and even if you use a lighter grey vest and tie it will blend with the silver so well.
also google image silver vest and tie(lots of pics) you wont have to worry about adding silver to the suit/tux unless you choose.have a purple bout. or better yet, a purple pocket square would look even more classy( these are my faves over flowers) good luck!!
Hi
Great site!
I am getting married I July 2009 (outdoor wedding, ballroom reception)and stumbled across this site looking for some purple, burgundy (red) and champagne inspiration… Could really use some help please. Can I pull this color scheme off in the heart of summer?
Thanks
LeMoni, short answer is, these are POPULAR colors for elegant summer vineyard weddings, so yes, you can definitely pull this off. And they look so beautiful against green. Well, you need Stacey’s expert help but I just wanted to say that those colors will be gorgeous.
lemoni,
BLAKE was right on target with ideas and the green. it will be very beautiful!! and THANKS BLAKE!!
i sure hope all of these ideas help you!! if you need xtra help i am here and will do whatever i can!!go to theknot.com under wedding photo heading click purple wedding details you will find so man ideas it aint even funny!! i didnt know what shade of purple you were using but a deeper lavender with burgundy would be beautiful!!
i am thinking an all champagne linens with the shade of purple you are using as accents,(like table in pic i posted) have lots of greenery to make it summery, add the purple flowers and tinges of burgundy among them. also think about grapes or summer berries to add that burgundy touch doesnt have to be flowers. put your bm in either champagne or a shade of plum, aubergine, eggplant or lavender depending on shade your using. for xtra ideas google image burgundy and green wedding board also purple and green wedding board. keep it simple greenery will make it super lush. for a standout cake table have a luxurious purple tablecloth, i love the eggplant color of bm dresses in pic. they are from lynnlugobridal.com also check out jimhjelm.com for inspiration. your main colors will be the champagne/purple with tinges of burgundy and lots of green.

* White & Royal Purple Wedding
the table setting pic is exactly the color i was thinking!!.
with darker purple flowers and crisp green as centerpieces. you could change out the containers.another option is have lighter lavender colored or white flowers with crisp green greenery, in clear glass containers filled with purple colored water set on darker purple tablecloths surrounded by candlelight. have white plates and silverware, elegant green napkins or white box favors tied with green and purple ribbon on each setting, instead of another color with purple just have the different shades of purple. the contrast will be the same and look sooooo good. i am gonna find a couple more pics for ya and post them be right back.
rachel, this is sooo pretty!! and the details are there start to finish!!

( hands down i absolutely love the simpleness of this wedding with just the right touches of purple, check it out!!, i believe this is my fave!! but you could have white flower centerpiece (like one in link) against elegant silk looking purple table cloths and have the same effect) check out photo gallery on the knot its wedding details by color. there are alot of pics. i sure hope this helps!!
HELP!!!! I am having a wedding in June 2010. I know I want purple, but I am really worried about its strong presence for a summer wedding if it wasn’t used wisely. I read earlier posting suggest to use the purple in small doses. I am thinking having the guys wear in silver vests and ties (may be with a tint of purple). Would light yellow go with royal purple? Or is ivory better?
I also want to use the orchid in the picture with some freesies, white-ish hydrangeas… but it’s more like a pink right? I don’t want ten thousand colors in the wedding, if I add in this orchid, is it too busy with the silver, purple, and very light yellow/ivory?
I love some of you love purple as much as I do and have used the color in your happy weddings, could you please show me some pictures so that I can have some ideas in what I am going to do?
Thanks a bunch!
victoria, how beautiful!! actually this is a lilac lavender color, it will be perfect against a darker purple, i wouldnt use anything but. a plum or deep purple color and copycat this look into your reception using the flowers in your pics in silver vases, keep it simple. put on white or deep purple linens.accenting with lots of greenery if you want a more garden appeal, if its more chic then axe the greens or most of them!! hope this helps you!! if you need more help please post back!!

Hi Victoria, another pic, also google image purple wedding cakes
I am getting married in Aug 2009. I was thinking of dark purple for color. Not really sure if this is a good color for this time of year…any thoughts?
Hi Danielle!
I think dark purple is one of the most beautiful colors out there for fall. It is so royal and impressive that I think the warmer seasons have a hard time standing up to it. Perfect for fall and winter.
Not sure what colors you’re thinking, but chocolate brown and purple is lovely for fall. I worked up a quick board to show. You see these colors combined a lot with fresh little touches of green. If you want a touch of harvest flavor for the fall, you can bring in the green with green apples and clouds of pale green hydrangea.
If you want more of a dramatic, ultra-modern look, try deep chocolate mini-calla lilies, chocolate cosmos and white callas for contrast. Use lots of crisp white with chocolate brown & purple so it doesn’t get too dark overall, plus, white really sets off their beauty. Or ivory would be a richer, more old-world alternative to white. Another option: with colors these rich & luxurious you could have fun adding just a hint of middle eastern flair: sparkle, tassels, silk or fringe. Like the detailed beading on the purple gown in the board.
You can also combine dark purple with lighter shades of purple and white for a very attractive look. HTH!
Thanks so much for the advice and all of the great ideas. One thing though…my wedding is Aug 8/09. Do you think these colors will still work for an early Aug wedding?
Sorry Danielle, I forgot that August is summer in MANY parts of the country
OK, my feeling is that if you’re having an evening wedding in a swanky ballroom, by all means roll out the royal purple, mix it with burgundy or chocolate brown, go satin, go fringe, and get as smoky and grown-up as you want, it will be perfect simply because it is a formal evening event.
BUT, if you’re having an outdoor wedding and want a fresh garden feel AND royal purple, believe me that would work. Just essentially design a white wedding with a frame of dark greenery to showcase the white. On top add lots of romantic texture: white satin ribbons, white organza panels blowing from a wedding arch, organza pew swags punctuated with dark purple hydrangea (maybe a touch of silver … like galvanized silver buckets … maybe little silver favor boxes with a romantic sheer white ribbon). Then when you add in small touches of royal purple, it will be SO modern and crisp. Total summer but also VERY sophisticated. Just use the royal purple in sharp small doses. E.g. keep your linens bright white with maybe a purple runner (NOT a purple overlay, too much).
To keep these strong colors from getting too monochromatic you can let little variations on purple creep into the florals here and there: lavenders, rosy pinks, soft greens. The bridesmaids wear the purple but maybe you break it up a bit with a sash. Please see pic attached for what I’m trying to get across.
HTH!
Thanks, that helps me loads Dawn. What would you have the men wearing if I were to go with purple and white with hints of green in the flowers?
After looking at too many purple weddings, I have definite opinions about this!
If you were using choc brown I would say black tuxes with choc brown vests, but for lighter schemes I feel the BEST colors for men is a pewter gray vest/tie combo with a little shine in the fabric against classic black tuxes. There’s something about gray that sets purple off like a jewel, it creates a quietness for the brighter colors to shine against, especially for a lighter summer wedding. When using purple, neutrals look very beautiful. Not too dark on the pewter, a lighter shade is perfect.
So take a look at the pic, ignoring the loud striped ascot in the lower right hand side … which would look nice in other settings but not here … but doesn’t the gray look great?
the colour theme im looking for is purple and ivory but i cant seem to find any decorations that aren’t to over the top
What type of decorations are you looking for? (centerpieces, linens, etc)
Is your wedding day or evening? I am getting married in April 2009 outdoors, but in the late afternoon into the evening. I have also been researching ideas for a wedding that is not over the top and I have run across some beautiful ideas. I was thinking of using different tones of purple with some ivory, greenery and lavender for the aroma. But because it is going into the evening hours, I am also using candles with my flower centerpieces. As for linens, I am just using plain ivory. I just want mine simple and romantic. Hope this helps a little.
Hi Everyone,
I am getting Married Sept. 2009 in TN. It will be an outdoor wedding and I don’t want to go with the traditional fall country theme. I am thinking multicolored Jewel tone flowers with deep plum as my main color. But I also like the clean white look with lavender, purples and pink. I am having trouble pulling it all together. Any suggestions? :-?
I have decided to go with a purple theme because ever since I was young everything I owned or ate had to be purple…
Because I am paying for this wedding myself I decided to go a more inexpensive route and found some gorgeous dresses at DEBS, they are more affordable and I found the color I love and it is a popular choice right now.
As for the decorations, I went a little crazy with the colors, but luckily my fiance is very good with matching the different shades, again a less expensive alternative with grapvine wreaths covered in greens with white and purple flowers. It has always been my dream to be able to incorporate my favorite color into my wedding and I thin it looks absolutly stunning!
If you ever happened to wonder whether purple would look fantastic with red, blue … AND gold, wonder no longer! Check out this amazing jewel-tone wedding which proves that purple was just made to go hand-in-hand with red. This from blmurch.
Inspired by the light chartreuse and deep purple shades of sweet potato vines that grow in mother’s flower bed, I hope to bring together a strikingly sophisticated contrast of color to my wedding scheme
We’re going with BM dresses in lilac and plum. However, I’m at a loss for what to do with the flowers and cake!
Hi,
Am getting married in April 2009, I have been having problems with choosing colors but am settled now, purple it will be. Please holla on any info or photos you may have on this!
Regards
Eunice
I’m getting married in june of 2009 and i want purple and lavender please give ideas.
Rejoice purple brides! Some beautiful boards to drool over!
Number one, a lovely montage from a single wedding by photographer Anne Ruthman. Apart from the heartbreakingly lovely periwinkle purple base, paired with a bright orchid pink, she captured the kind of wedding most brides really want — elegant, but fun. (Elegant, as in the lovely silver filagree of the frames and signs — fun, as in drowning orchid centerpieces and poppy candy buffets!) See here!
Next, a too-cool purple and green mood board lovingly assembled by simplywilkinson. Love the diaphanous detail of the BM’s skirts, against the hanging organza panels of the garden setting. Hydrangeas and hurricane lamps in lovely laid-back hues set a cottage mood, while the brooches at the BM’s waists and those shoe jewels are a wistful kind of FAB. See all its glory here!
What would you suggest for aubergine (thinking taffeta, wintertime) as far as decor/flowers/dresses etc.?
christy.
white flowers,or off white.
decorations can be purple christmas bulbs and snow flakes.
there is so much now in purple for christmas,
icicle lights and purple bulbs..
you can put purple christmas bulbs in tall glass vases for center pieces.have fun it will look elegant..
