Shake, Rattle & Roll: Put on an Elvis Wedding
Swanky, smooth and larger-than-life, Las Vegas is a haven if you’re in a pinch and need to get hitched quick, want a little romantic inspiration or have your heart set on having Captain Kirk, Elvis and Priscilla — or even all three — at your wedding.
Colorful theme characters — ranging from Merlin the magician to Cleopatra and from Rocky Horror's Dr. Frank-N-Furtur to the Blues Brothers — perform the actual ceremony, while a minister witnesses and formalizes the wedding after the service.
Nowadays, getting married by Elvis is as much a part of Las Vegas custom as blackjack and neon. The Graceland Wedding Chapel started this grand tradition, and it's still the chapel of choice for many couples. Luminously white, the Graceland Chapel is as picturesque as any countryside vicarage. Once inside, you might have to vow never to treat your spouse like a hound dog, but in return you get to jitterbug off the altar while your officiant sings “Viva Las Vegas.”
On request, Elvis will walk the bride down the aisle and give her away. In addition, the hard-working icon will serve up some signature rootsy tunes for the couple and their guests to get down to.
If you're renewing your vows instead of tying the knot, Elvis can even perform your ceremony himself — which gives you the opportunity to exchange the infamous "Elvis Vows":

Graceland Chapel recommends reservations for couples who want to enjoy their many Elvis-related wedding options.
Another popular chapel where the King holds sway is “A Elvis Chapel,” where a gold lamé version of the swivel-hipped songster is present at the ceremonies of Las Vegas lovebirds who have found their own “hunka hunka burning love.”
Elvis Chapel’s wedding coordinator takes the King’s slogan "Taking Care of Business" to heart, tending to the details of the site’s most elaborate package, “Viva Las Vegas,” which offers a bouquet and boutonnière for the bride and groom. You'll also get a generous 48-photo package of the nuptials and post-wedding festivities, which you can tuck into a wedding album next to your copy of Elvis and Priscilla’s 1967 marriage certificate.
Finally, even if you can’t make it to Las Vegas, it's a cinch to plan your own Elvis wedding on your own home turf:
- Make a grand entrance and a showy departure in a pink cadillac. No such wheels available? Try a pink cadillac cake topper, or order up a delicious groom's cake modeled after Elvis' favorite car.
- Queue up Love Me Tender, Can't Help Falling in Love, and Viva Las Vegas.
- Wow your guests with a bright white cake decked out in red fondant ribbons, sparkling "disco dust" and elegant gold dragees applied in starburst patterns.
- Create theme-centered names for the menu, such as Graceland Gumbo or Vegas Veal.
- Wet everyone's whistle with Blue Hawaii or Blue Suede Shoes libations, made with blue curacao.
- Serve up down-home, Elvis-approved favorites such as lemon meringue pie and banana pudding.
- Create miniature game tables using black and white dice, and use flashy red and gold ribbons.
- Instead of a guestbook, have guests sign a black acoustic guitar with gold and silver metallic pens.
- Hand out personalized decks of playing cards, unique tins of Elvis mints, chocolate poker chips or miniature Elvis key chains as wedding favors. Or gift your guests with satin scarves like Elvis wore ... and often tossed out at his concerts.
