Unique Ideas for a Theme Wedding
If you want to plan a wedding like no other, consider adding a theme. These ideas would not be considered appropriate for a formal wedding, but if your planning a more casual affair, these ideas can be great fun. To decide on a theme, consider the following questions to guide you in the right direction:
- What time of year is the wedding scheduled?
- How large is your guest list?
- Where will your ceremony/reception take place?
- How big is your budget?
And for the little kid in each of us ... a circus theme wedding! This would be a great outdoor event and would be entertaining for adults and kids alike. Picture your yard with loads of balloons under colorful canopies. Strolling clowns making balloon characters, a face painter and a magician that would go to each table dazzling guests with tricks and illusions. Rent a popcorn and cotton candy cart to complete the theme.
For centerpieces, consider confetti, clown shoes filled with candy or balloon-animal arrangements. For invitations, make circus posters of flyers inviting your guests to "The Greatest Show on Earth." Or have a friend dress like a clown and hand deliver your invitations, enclosed in a clear balloon with plenty of streamers, to your guests front door.
For those hopeless romantics, here's something for you. Center your theme around the 1940's Big Band era. When women wore hats with veils and over-the-elbow gloves. Men joined the wartime effort which would have theme dressed in uniforms. Set your decor like a ballroom with an orchestra to play songs of the times. (Think Andrew Sisters, Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers). Fill the room with balloons and a mirrored ball over the dance floor.
For centerpieces, use strings of pearls, Champagne bottles, long gloves, scattered rose petals, dog tags or champagne flutes with treats. For invitations send a black & white photo of you and your fiancé in an antique style frame. Attach a note with wedding details. This would serve as a beautiful keepsake. Or send a music sheet with your wedding information replacing the words of a popular 40's song (Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, Over the Rainbow, etc.).
Set the stage in the traditional nautical colors of Navy Blue and White. Or perhaps the "Tourist" look of Hawaiian prints. Decorate with serpentine throws, confetti, streamers, balloons, ice sculptures, Welcome Aboard banners and travel posters.
For centerpieces consider lanterns, small life preservers, small wooden life boats, sailor hats, plastic anchors, assorted sea shells or starfish. For invitation, make personalized travel brochures, cruise ship boarding passes or tiny scroll-like invitations inserted into a small glass bottle with sand and a sealed cork.
Let your imaginations run wild. If you need some more ideas, there are a number of theme party books on the market. Or hire a coordinator to pull together the wedding of your dreams. I wish you lots of fun and laughter in the planning process. May God bless your future together!

Hi! I had a few ideas I thought I’d share. I hand-make favor and centerpieces for Your Moments Created so I’ve seen a few things that might help you guys!
One idea is to have invitations made in the color of chocolate or in the shape of an actual candy bar (such as rectangular with the information printed when you open the bar). I’ve seen brides order those and they are always a hit. Another way is to have invitations made with a Hershey’s kiss theme. The invite can be dark chocolate color and have a kiss type logo on the inside or such.
For favors, you can buy miniature Hersheys in a bag for about $3 a bag and they have about 40 pieces in them. Make on your computer or order on Ebay mini candy wrappers with whatever you want on them. Then, just wrap each one and place in favor bags for your guests. Definitely a cheap but elegant look! It can work for garden themes, chocolate themes, monograms or anything else.
For a centerpiece, why not buy a large, plastic mold on Ebay of whatever your theme is? Such as a butterfly, a letter, whatever! Then, melt the disks of chocolate into the mold and make these as centerpieces! (We did this for a car themed bridal shower and guests loved it!)
Hope this helps!

My boyfriend grew upin Ohio State so he is a huge buckeye fan i old him i would use them as the theme to our wedding any ideas
I’m looking for some bridal shower inviations where the bride will request everyone to wear hats. The theme of the bridal shower will be hats…there will be a sit down dinner…
Frankie,
Look up “candy wrappers” on line. There are companies who can make your invitations out of any kind of candy bar wrapper. No chocolate required. Unique and “themed” yet practicle and shouldn’t cost more than a typical wedding invitation.
Don’t forget to start with a cream based linen for your reception and accent with the chocolate. Depending on how much you want to spend and whether or not your banquet facility will work with you…have them dip both the spoon and the champagne glass with chocolate. Serve milk in the glass( for you toast) and a mint coffee with the spoon.
Keep you table arrangements simple and edible…it’s less to take home with you at the end of the night and your guests will love you! Also don’t forget the deep fried Oreo Cookies!! If you’ve never had them before you should! As soon as possible!
I have a dilemma for anyone who has ne suggestions. i am planning my wedding and my fiance is really…whats the word REDNECK and he doesnt want to help with ne thing he just said “tell me when to show up.” we… i mean I want to be on a budget but i also dont want it to be trashy. its for about 30 to 45 people so its not very big. I want to plan it myself, so if anyone has ne suggestions as to how i can make this work i would greatly appreciate it.
WoW 600 INVITEES!!! That’s great! I love the red.. considering you will have so many people an affordable option could be arranging your favors some how in the center of the tabel to create your centerpiece. Knock 2 birds with 1 stone! Also, that way you don’t have to worry about a line up at the end to hand out the favors.
I had that idea on the Chocolate martini idea especially since i will be giving out Mini martini shakers with chocolate martini recipe’s on the back of my thank you note! GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!! Thank you so much
On a different note or direction, still sticking with unique wedding themes…..I am having an Ohio State themed wedding. Maids in red, men with red vests, my dress has red on it. I will be working silver/gray accents in where I can. I need some help with centerpiece and favor ideas. I thought about using candy buckeyes as the favors, but I’m not 100% sold on that idea. And for centerpieces I wanted to do individual cakes at each table in the shape of the block “O” logo. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Any in the red/gray/silver theme? There are approx. 600 guests invited so affordable options are needed!!
For drinks at the reception you could do a chocolate martini bar.
oh, oops you said invitations….hmmm, how about making them chocolate scented invitations instead?
How about a chocolate fondue stand with strawberries to dip into? That way you wouldn’t have to worry about making a mess with melted chocolates….just a thought.
I am having a chocolate theme wedding. I ruled out sending invitations made of chocolate bec. with my luck there will be a heat wave in september (when i have to send them out) and they will arrive all melted. Does anyone one have any other unique ideas for this theme??
